Hi guys - SouthHampton there is a great prduct called Buff..they have SO many sytles - and a womans line only - that are so cool. I constantly am getting stopped by people asking / complimenting them..and in the midst of all the yuck its nice to get the compliments when ya can
They morpth into beanies and are just so versatile..I run a lot and I have always used them before the hair falling out and now I just change the way I wear them...Fab. See the link below..The Polar Buffs are great for the winter as they are made of fleece..

Thank you, MissC. I am going to try it. Which ones are your favorites?

I absolutely LOVE the Polar Reversible Buffs - they are SO warm and fun! I have gotten about 10 of these to date and - excluding the Polars - I go with Original Buffs as they are not as tight as the womens slim line...thing about em is they will be used equally as mush post chemo as I used them all the time when running pre chemo so for me its a great investment
My fav have to be:
http://buff.eu/en/NZL/products/-/c/H/s/A/f/105 - just got the 431684 multi / black - so fun!
and the Originals ..

I was naturally curly before hair loss (type 3B for those who know curly hair; think Bernadette Peters but not quite as long). At first my hair seemed to be coming in straight after chemo, and I've had a couple of cuts to keep it in a short pixie style. But, alas, it is getting curly and hard to control now. I am spending way too much time debating whether to try one more cut to see if it is shaped again whether I can control it better or to bite the bullet and grow it again. What I know from curly hair in the past is that length is its friend. I don't know what it's going to take to get past the awkward stages which I imagine could take 12-18 months. I absolutely HATE short, curly hair on me, so I think these stages will be beyond awkward. Does anyone have any recommendations of products that have worked for short, very curly hair? Or any recommendations whatsoever? I'll try to post the current look as my avatar. This was immediately post-styling, and it didn't remain that way for long.

Mary625, I had very curly hair pre chemo but it was long and I usually blew it out and it looked great. Now, at 32 weeks pfc, its short and super curly. I hate it, but am not getting any if it cut for now. Its a long process to smooth out the curls and then I put in a thin headband and it looks ok. I've spent a fortune on products in the last weeks (I've only recently ditched the wig not even 2 weeks ago). I've tried john freda, fructose, rusk, Ojon, ouidad, moroccon oil, to name a few. None of the so-called smoothing shampoos have worked at all. Blow drying makes it puffy. So I put the john freda anti frizz oil in when wet, air dry it, spray it with fructose leave in conditioner, flat iron it to take out frizz, then use curling iron to make it wavy rather than tight curls. Waves look better than trying to get it straight since its different lengths and I don't want to cut it. Then when its all done, I rub through got-to-b gel (the one in round orange container ). The got-to-b is cheap and works better than anything else I've tried. Wish I could post pic but can't figure it out. My plan is to keep growing it until I get the length to really work withit it and get a good blow out again. I don't get why the blow dryer makes it worse now though - do you have any luck smoothing it out with round brush and blow dryer?

Shore1: Mixed results with round brush and blow dryer. Mine is not long enough to be able to get some traction on the hair that it needs, and my round brush is plastic not natural bristle. I need to try to find a small one in natural bristle. So I have to be careful not to add lift and fullness rather than straightening.
I'm going to try your routine with the John Freida, etc. I have been thinking that the air drying route may be the way to go, especially with some gel. I've bought 2 Got-to-Be's already, but not the one in the round orange container. Will get that asap!
Thanks for all the suggestions. I think you and I may be at about the same stage after chemo because I started on 9/26/11. My last chemo was mid-January. I have not been counting the weeks.
Edited to say: I think I'm 34 weeks PFC, but I have had several haircuts as I was thinking about keeping it short when it seemed to be coming in straight.

Mary625, yes, same schedule. I started chemo 9/21/11 & finished 2/1/12. I still get herceptin. I was hoping mine would come in straight too - would just be easier to manage. Ulta has a good selection of brushes. Im thinking about getting a salon relaxer or keratin treatment. At the very least, maybe some highlights to brighten it up.

Ossa - I like your colour as is! Were you able to hold off all this time without any dye yet then? Oh, to have natural strawberry blonde...did you have curls at first?
kjiberty - you look absolutely stunning - without or with your wig! Your hair looks SO very soft...now, remind me again ('cause I cannot keep track of everyone's journey) if you've used any colouring product yet. Yes, I have an obsession with colour at the mo - ha ha!
Both you ladies look awesome - I love it - thanks for posting your pics!0 -
Just gorgeous ladies!!!!!! Forego the wigs as you both look stunning...

Kj, just lovely! Ossa, did your one sided curls straighten out? I'm not sure if mine have or not because I'm keeping my hair so short, but I think the curl is going away.

I am now 9 weeks PFC. Yesterday I left for work at 6am. I was about 2 miles from my home when I realized I had forgotten to cover my head (chemo brain?) I did a U-turn and drove all the way home to get a scarf. My hair has been growing like a weed but I don't know when I'll get in my comfort zone to go topless. Once I get to work, I change from my scarf (chemobeanie, actually) into a scrub cap. It is so hot and annoying. I can't wait to be free of the headcoverings! How soon did you go topless? Was it comfortable for you? Thanks for the input!

M4babies,
I went topless from the beginning. Have a wig that I never wore. Only wore ball caps to run in due to weather (when it rained or was extremely cold) and a couple of times in the sanctuary at church because there was a draft in the Winter.
I couldn't imagine sweating through the summer with anything on my head.
For most of the people I know I went from all my hair to a buzz with just a little hair. Some saw a short transition from my hair at its regular length, to a bob, to a shorter cut, to buzzed. That occurred in one week's time and I did the cutting - except the buzz - fromm dear husband.
One gal thought I did it to run the Balder Dash - which made my day that she thought I was that bold.
Not to suggest that I never felt the loss or never was the recipient of some thoughtless comments. But I never looked at it as devastating.
Whatever path you choose and whenever you choose it... I think you'll find that your hair or lack thereof becomes a non-issue for the majority of people. Their center of foci simply isn't us :0)
Hugs!

My last chemo was towards the end of July (2011), First time out w/o a cover was in the middle of October (2011).

My last chemo was in March and I got rid of the scarves in August.

My last chemo was Feb 3rd....by June I was topless!

Ossa and Kjiberty, you both look amazing!
Rn, I wore mostly hats with full coverage when I was completely bald, and then transitioned to baseball caps as soon as I had a tiny bit of "sideburn" hair. My last chemo was April 26th, and my first day without a head covering was an outdoor event I attended on July 22nd...about 12 weeks. My hair was VERY short and I had just enough coverage to avoid severe sunburn! It was a little nerve wracking, but also incredibly liberating. I haven't worn a single hat or scarf since, and everyone in my life has just become used to my really short hair. No more emergency trips home to get a scarf/hat (been there!)!

8 weeks PFC and I ditched the wig - wore a baseball cap one day going into work...then nothing starting the next day

Good for everyone brave enough to go topless! I waited 5 months. I am 1 year 2 months PFC and my hair looks bad if I don't put it up (all different lengths) but I refuse to cut it!
Here is your hope ...
5 months PFC - yuck! I look back now and I can't believe I went out with so little hair!
7 months PFC - it's getting there ...
7 months
9 months PFC - if I had to go back and do it again, this is when I should have taken my wig off!
10 months PFC
1 year PFC
1 year 2 months PFC front updo
1year 2 months PFC up do!
