Hi everyone - I'm 12 weeks PFC and my hair is coming back pretty well. I am so happy to have some hair!  But it has way more salt than pepper in it.  I was hoping to hold off coloring it for awhile but I just don't like the "white" look. It looks good on some people but I'm not one of them.  Prior to chemo, I was getting my hair colored at a salon and I think they were using Redken.  I was just wondering if there are some products that are less harsh. I don't want to do anything that might stunt my hair growth. Thanks!

Melmcbee: My hair was also short when it started to fall out, but my scalp only stopped hurting when I had my hair buzzed.

Kitty - my stylist recommended a semi permanent color. Not very harsh and lasts about 40ish washes. So far so good for me!

    Hi ladies,

Somebody may have already posted this but I haven't gone back to read older posts so apologies if this is repetitive. I finished my 4th round of DD A/C tx last week and my eyebrows & lashes are beginning to thin now. I will be starting on 12 weekly doses of Taxols in 6 weeks time (after my baby is born) and my nurse told me that my hair will begin to grow back while on the Taxols because the dose isn't as dense. Did anybody else have this experience? Is the hair regrowth just fuzz or does your hair really begin to grow back properly. I am just so sick of wearing my stupid wig, i hate the stupid thing but I live in Ireland and with the weather we have it does help to keep my head warm :)

Mumtobe....first of all, all the best for the birth of your baby...that is a lot to deal with at the same time but you sound like you are doing just fine. I also had the DD/AC (had to quit after the 3rd due to PE) and followed with the 12 taxols. My hair did start to grow back during Taxol, it was the fine white baby hair but it seems to come back that way no matter what chemo you take! Hang in there, it soon becomes real hair. I am over 7 months PFC and it is almost back to normal now length wise.

Mumtobe, can't imagine having to do this all while pregnant. More power to you! My experience was that the eyebrows thinned about half way and then finally completely fell out right after the last dose of taxol. The hair started growing back about 5-6 treatments of taxol into the 12 week course. It was clear fuzz at first but within a few weeks started having some color. It's still very soft but more like my normal color now, the eyebrows and lashes came back about a month after the last dose of taxol. I am 11 weeks pfc now, my avatar is from 9 weeks pfc. It started straight but is getting wavy on the sides and back now. Best wishes to you and your child.

Hi ladies!  I haven't posted on this thread in awhile thought I would pop in and say HI!!!!  My hair is growing really good!  I love it!  Not as long as prechemo, but as long as I had wore it just maybe a year before chemo.  So it does grow back!  I have noticed that my eyebrows are thinning in spots again and using the eyebrow liner again.  I am about 14 months pfc!

Mumtobe, what a wonderful event to look forward to - a new baby! Wish it could be under different circumstances, but cancer chooses us, not the other way round, unfortunately. As far as the wig, you are much better off there where it's colder when it comes to wearing it, honestly. In the summer weather I just cannot tolerate that thing on my head, especially not with the hot flushes caused by Tamoxifen. I ditched it way sooner that I would have, had it been cooler, and it was so liberating. Don't worry; before you know it, you will be going topless. Best wishes!

It is official: I now have to comb my hair with something other than a towel. Wow, what a milestone! My DH also had to tidy me up in the back with his razor where I was getting a little too 'fluffy' around the edges. 17 weeks PFC, and the hair in the back is definitely beginning to show signs of chemo curl - oh nooooooo!!!! I was hoping to escape that! Whatever. I have hair, and that's the most important part.

lieifie - your description matches mine exactly with the fluffy back edges & signs of chemo curl! I'm also at 17 weeks...

Bless you & best wishes to you & your baby, Mumtobe.

Hi Ladies,  My hair is finally starting to grow, but it is really strange. I have hair on the sides and in the back by my hair line, but wow nothing seems to be  growing on the top or on the crown..I look like an 80 yr old man with a bald top. Did anyone else have their hair grow this way..This is so frustrating...

liefie, I am almost where you are.  I used a comb for the first time last week.  THough I can still get away with the towel brush method mostly.  I havent trimmed the hairline yet but need to... funny what we get excited about now... but it really is a milesone!

oh yeah, and the curl is showing on the sides and back now. Oh well, was hoping to escape that.  It is even getting messy looking around the ears... but its hair.

Mumtobe: what a totally crazy time this must be for you and your family! Happy? sad? Wow. That's one miracle baby you've got coming.

Eileen, mine is coming in a bit like that too. I think there IS some hair in the front and top, but much less, and quite pale as opposed to the darker sides and back. Pretty funny actually, if it weren't so frustrating. Thanks Carrol for the encouragement!

Jpmomof3, who would have thought nine months ago that we would be so excited just to be able to comb our hair again? This is one weird disease that affects us like this. About the hair around the ears: somebody remarked that she was beginning to resemble the Gerber ad baby with the wisps around the ears. We are now approaching that stage - LOL!

CAYH, greetings from Vancouver Island. We can all grow our hair together. Come join the happy Gerber baby club!

That was me...the Gerber baby! Wispy hair around the ears that was curling up! I was quite a sight and very happy to get a trim.

I'm 6 1/2 months PFC and my hair is thick and curly in the back. It's long enough to not wear my wig on the weekends but I still wear the wig to work (only about 5 people at work know my "situation"). I can't wait until it looks like a style that I would actually get on purpose. I figure another month or so and I can ditch the head rat!

Never thought I would look forward to spending ridiculous amounts of money on hair products. Can't wait for the day when I have to stare at the hair dryer and flat iron every morning. I've missed those things!

Hi liefie!  I have relatives in Courtenay & more on the mainland.  I'd happily join the happy Gerber Baby club once the hair around my ears gets longer - currently, it's curling over into the tops of my ears, making it appear to be growing out of 'em...

But, I'll not get any of that cut off just yet - nope!

kjiberty - I just changed mine to see if it would work & I didn't check the "Delete current avatar" box.  Hope you can figure it out soon - can't wait to see your updated pic!

Mardibra, your description of your wig as the 'head rat' cracked me up, because that was exactly how I referred to my wig as well. It does look exactly like a small furry animal! I was always very careful to put it out of my dog's reach whenever I took it off, because I was sure he would go for it.

CAYH, look on the bright side. We are lucky to be women, because many men do sprout hairs out of their ears when they get older - ughh!

Hi everyone!  After all your great advice, i finally took the plunge today and got a little trim.  It really DOES look better!  More like a real hairstyle (not one I would choose - but hey, I'll take it!).  I love seeing everyone's pictures, and I changed my Avitar to my post haircut "do".

Ang, you will get there, but I understand that this process is totally frustrating!  I'm just past 19 weeks after final Taxol (I did AC/T dose dense).  The top has been growing so much more slowly than the sides and back.  I almost freaked out when I saw how much hair was coming off the sides and back - almost an inch!  But it needed to be cleaned up, and now I just need more patience :-)  My hairdresser said the hardest part will be when the top catches up and I start growing out the sides...more fun to look forward to!  I am hoping I will grow to love short hair (once it's not SO short!), and I'm trying to embrace the opportunity to try out some new short styles.  I love Kris Jenner's hair.  Maybe when I lose these 30 cancer treatment pounds I will be better able to pull off a cute short style!

Interesting article about vitamin D and hair loss in the journal section of the wall street journal. It's years away from figuring out a cure, but vitamin D receptors seem important.

Crazyride...your hair looks so great! You can definitely pull off the pixie. Im at 15 weeks and have maybe 1/4"...but my leg and armpit hairs are growing like weeds...yay! Can't complain too much...at least I feel really good.
