Hi,
I am 5.5 months PFC and used biotin for 4 months until I had soem significant growth and coverage. I had really curly hair befre that I blowed dried straight and now am concerned abotu blowbryign or any heat applied to my precous few inches. You?

Divine - nicely said
HVV - I'm not worried about damaging it - I took Biotin too, and tried other things I think helped it grow healthy. But I don't blow dry it because that seems to make it puffier. When it was long & curly pre-BC, I used a large round brush to blow it out and a flat irion but it's not long enough to do that yet. For now, I won't cut it, so for me, I think the wavy/curly hides uneven ends better. I still take 5000 mcg Biotin a day and I'm about 48 weeks pfc. It's water soluable and theres no reason to stop taking it (except the fact that it makes body hair grow quicker too).
CayH - Beautiful.

Just as I read kjiberty's post about getting compliments on her short hair, those thoughts crystalized in my mind.
On that 'blending the ears' link.....I will take that woman's hair, body, clothes and jewelry! lol

LeeA - I love that website too. I saved a bunch of celebrity short hair styles during chemo. I'm still working toward this short uneven Kiera Knightly bob that I hope to get by this time next year.

Well said DivineMrsM! I totally agree that it must be something about the way we carry ourselves because I am quite sure the compliments were not for my uber-short hair alone! Either way, I will take the compliments. I haven't posted here for a while but have been reading. To all those who posted pics, every single one of you look beautiful! I am 9 1/2 months PFC and getting my 1st color touchup and 3rd trim today! Headed to Vegas tomorrow with my DH for a much needed mini-vacation so I have to look my best! Happy New Year everyone!

Kellogs - have a blast in Vegas!

Kellogs, you are only about an hour and a half away from me, I'm northeast of you on the Ohio River. My DH and I went to Las Vegas (1st time) in June, saw a number of great shows and visited the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam while we were out there. Hope you have a terrific trip.

Hi ladies. Just stopping by to wish everyone a very happy new year! It has been so crazy with the holidays and tomorrow is my sons 7th birthday! I am ready for a vacation! Lol! Hope everyone is doing well. Been trying to catch up on the posts :-).
My best Xmas gift was that I had enough lashes back on Xmas eve that I could actually use mascara! My eyebrows are also almost back although still a little more sparse than normal. I am still a little freaked out about the whitish fuzzy hair though....hoping that changes soon though.
Wishing everyone a happy 2013... Much health and happiness to us all! We deserve it!

Hello ladies,
When is it safe and feasible to begin coloring hair after chemo? I am 4 months since last treatment. My hair is short but growing! I would really like to d/c the wig and put some organic dye in it. (Tired of the white hair on top!) My hair seems to be coarser and wavier than before chemo. Wondering how that affects coloring?
Would love to hear your experiences!

Hikergal,
I used organic dye on my hair at about 3 months PFC. The salon owner where I had it done had gone through BC about 9 months ahead of me and assured me it was very safe. I didn't have quite enough hair to ditch the wig at that point but it had come in such an ugly ashy color that I had to do something. It made a big difference and took the color no problem.
I'm just over 5 months PFC at this point and have been without the wig since just after Halloween. It was an adjustment but my friends and family were great about encouraging me to go without and I get a lot of compliments now. I say I ditched the wig but I really mean the hat, I never could get used to the wig I paid a fortune for and really only wore a hat (with a 1/2 wig underneath through chemo and then just the hat as I was finishing chemo).
I haven't colored it again since October but should probably soon. Haven't had a haircut yet either. It's getting a little bushy but I just can't imagine cutting it!
Good luck!
Rose

Devine~ how perfectly said...Amen!
Hikergal~ I colored my hair when it was about 1/2" long, I couldn't stand the white on top! I use All-Nutrients, it's fortified with certified organic ingredients.
I am 9 mths PFC and have lost my eyelashes for the third time!! My eyebrows are thinning too. Anyone else have this happen?

shore, I love that cut/style!

Kelloggs - have a great time in Vegas! If you love lobster there's a great place across from the Mirage - or there used to be. Just recently someone on the What's For Dinner thread mentioned a great place for steak. Wish I could remember the name. I saved it for any future trips to Vegas but am posting from my phone.0 -
Sandlake - I'm 38 weeks. (around 8+ months if you count by months) and eyelashes have departed completely 2 xs and are thinning for the 3rd time - eyebrows have stayed since the first grow back but thinned very slightly on the 2nd eyelash fallout. I did notice that this time it is not as drastic as the last. It seems like it's still following the same fallout pattern but much slower so they are filling in at the same time - I'm so sick of this !!

How long was it behore you guys lost your lashes again? I'm 11 weeks PFC now. I've been topless for at least a month. My hair is coming in brown, evenly and rather straight so far.

June - seems to be right around a 3 month pattern. Lost them all in April, theyntook a while to come in that 1st time. Then lost them in sept and the are thinning again (dec) but slower

I just finished chemo and did not completely lose eye lashes and brows, does this happen after chemo stops? Hoping to keep what little lashes and brows that I have.

Happy New Year Ladies! I haven't posted much lately but have been following this thread from my BB. I have to say all of the hair pics are fantastic! I had a trim just before Christmas to tidy it up but most of you are all well ahead of me! Having 2 more Herceptin TX's to do, I really hope things pick up after that. Mind you the texture is OK along with the thickness, not a ton of curl at all, just some body/wave which I always had anyway. I just need some growth!
For the ladies asking about dying your hair, I used a non amonia 28 wash stuff and it does make it look like more coverage because the white stuff can't be seen very well. Pretty sure I did that about 10 weeks PFC. I've done it now 3 times when the grays start to take over.
I just noticed this week that my brows have started to thin a little. I had them tinted and continue to use a pencil and powder to fill them in even 8.5 months PFC.
I can't wait to have a bob like Keira Knightly! Mine was just a little longer than than when this whole deal started.

I am 5 1/2 months PFC and lost most of my lashes and brows about 2 months PFC. They've grown back nicely and have not noticed them thinning again, yet. I hope they don't because it was very traumatic for me the first time. Even with makeup I felt like I had an "alien" look. My hair is growing nicely. It probably could use a trim but I don't have the heart to do it.

AEM47: SHIT!!!!!
Butterfly: yes PFC. I kept all my brows and lashes (think I might add) throughout 4 rounds of AC. Lashes came out totally 3 weeks PFC; brows started thining then but never totally came out. I started using Brian Joseph. Google it. It's by a woman who underwent chemo. My lashes and brows came back quickly. I still use it. Maybe that will keep them from dropping again. *sigh*. This fucking cancer shit.... How many years until this ends?! Fucking poisoning ourselves to save ourselves. So insanity not fair to add hair loss. Why doesnt chemo for men's cancers cause hair loss?!?! So not fair! I am just really REALLY irritated with the hair, the weight gain, hot flashes, loss to sensation in my chest and back of my arm... Anything else coming my way or am I done yet?! Argh!
Sorry... SO CRANKY from this damn "lifestyle change". I want SUGAR and CARBS!!!!0 -
Thanks juneabugg, I am going to google that. I hate cancer, miss my hair, boobs and previously physically fit body. My MO's nurse practitioner asked why I was depressed yesterday, I was like fat, bald and boobless...should be self explanitory.

Juneaubugg - you're so right. The whole thing blows, but the hair loss is a huge kick in the ass on top of the dx, tx and mind fucking BC does to us.
On lashes/brows, I think everyone is different & maybe different chemo cocktails impact it too. I never lost mine completely, but they were very very thin end of taxol and a few weeks pfc. But grew back fast & never fell out again. Thicker than ever, knock wood. I think the Brian joseph gel helped.0 -
butterfly I did not lose my lashes or brows they jsut thinned a little during chemo and filled back in as soon as I stopped. I had 4 tx TC and I am 2 years PFC.

Thanks Carroll, I am hoping to hang on to the ones that I have left. they are thinner but still there. I never lost arm hair either, so hoping I'm on the hair growth part of the program.

butterfly thats funny cause i lost the hair everywhere on my body except the top part of my arms, pits and legs were hair free for a while the hiar on my legs is very light when it grows in now still.

To any other "curly girls" out there, has anyone tried the Aveda Be Curly products? My hair has come back not just curly, but kinky/fuzzy, almost like one of my bad perms from the 80s. It drinks up everything I put on it. Hmmm. I'll have to change my icon!

juneaubugg - you look fabulous! And I love your necklace. If you don't mind me asking, when was your last treatment? I'm trying to gauge how much (if any) hair I will have when we go on a scheduled vacation.

juneaubugg, thanks for posting the update, you are giving me hope that my hair will start t0o grow in.
Carroll, thanks for the hope that I will keep the brows and lashes that I have right now, thin but there..

Juneaubugg - I love your hairline and how straight it's coming in. Straight, but looks thick and good texture. Your eyebrows also look good.
Indigo - I have tried dozens of curly hair products, but not the one you mentioned. Is it any good? I"m finding that the longer it gets, the easier it is to work with the curl, although I can't blow it out yet without making a big puff. And you made me laugh - I never had an 80's perm because my hair was always curly, but I would do anything to have my big huge 80's ponytail right now (remember those 80's hair clips called "mane" and "banana" clips that made the pony tail look so long?)

juneaubugg your hair came in similar to mine (granted I had more gray). Looks like you might at the most get a slight wave but it doesn't look like you're going poodle. Feels nice and soft doesn't it… are those eyebrows yours? They look just as fab as your hair.
BTW love that necklace.
