Mom, I don't see why not.  During taxol I started seeing some white fuzzies and I started using it right after my last chemo.

I don't know if the Nioxin is helping or not as I have nothing to base it against.  But I'll continue to use the follicle booster and like Spring, I'll stop after my bottle is empty.  I am continuing to use the shampoo and conditioner.  I have two huge bottles of that so I'm sure it will last me for awhile.  I am also taking biotin, and a mega GLA with borage seed oil.

Just wanted to chime in on the eyelashes and eyebrows.  I just wrote about this on my blog with a picture of my new eyelashes, as I suddenly realized that my eyelashes are completely back.  I found that the eyelashes started coming back pretty quickly but I wore false eyelashes for about 2 weeks.  I found that they were very realistic and easy to use and worth it!  Hang in there as they really do come back.   On the eyebrows, mine have come back just a little lighter than they were before and for some reason I have only had to have them waxed one time.  The part that I usually have waxed hasn't really grown back-what a bonus!

I finished chemo (AC-T) the last weekend of August.  My eyelashes and eyebrows fell out completely in September, 2 weeks after I finished chemo, but grew back about 2 weeks later.  In Dec or Jan, the eyelashes and eyebrows started falling out again -- not fully so there were some stray long while the short were coming in.  It just happened again. Hair on my head is growing great (have a head full of 'chemo curls').  I'm going to start topical Latisse to stimulate growth, but wondered if anyone else had cycles of eyelash/eyebrow hair falling out this far after chemo?

I am having what appears to be pimples on my scalp - don't know if these are blocked follicles or an extended reaction from my last chemo (4/23)?

Also, I did not lose all of my hair, just have some fuzz that looks like it's getting a little longer and bald spots that I think I can feel a little fuzz.  Leg hairs are thinner as are underarms, but arm hair is normal and pubic area thinned but didn't all go away.  I had a LOT of hair on my head, it was very thick.  I am using Nioxin #2 shampoo and scalp therapy.  Is there another part to this duo I should be using?  Can't wait for it to come in enough to cover my entire scalp.

I did see that my Plastic Surgeon carries Latisse. Keep me posted on your results. I am seeing my plastic in two weeks and am thinking about getting some. I am going to start the Nioxin treatment this weekend. Where do you all get the Biotin Shampoo? Is there a vitamin too?

Dear Chelev, My last treatment was on 4/27. I have not had any pimples on my head... hopefully it is tons of new hair coming in! I did not lose all my hair either, I have some longer pieces on top and some around the base of my neck. I am getting this dark shadow of fuzz coming in. My leg and underarm hair seems to be growing faster than before, pubic hair has not started to grow at all. Someone that works for Nioxin suggested that I use the System 1 (Cleanser, Scalp Therapy, and Scalp Treatment) along with the Folicle Booster and Recharging Complex Vitamin. I can't wait to start it! Did you lose your eyelashes and eyebrows?

I am using the Nioxin scalp therapy too.  I don't know if it works or not.  Body hair seems to be coming back much faster head hair. I can't take biotin.  For some reason my body already has too much.

Blake-I ordered biotin shampoo online from Puritan's Pride, they had a special buy 1 get one free, for $8.99 for 2 bottles, decent size too.  I used it this morning for the first time.

I just posted this on another topic but I thought it would go here also.

Six years out for me so I put together a little photo montage of old pics.

The first picture is 4 months growth, thick and curly. I ditched the wig at 2 months out.

The second is about 9 months and I didn't know what to do with those curls and bangs. Tried being a blond.

The third is 2 years and it is still thick, long and curly but less so. Loved that year.

The last is current - back to natural color, very thin and fine and exactly like it was before chemo - sigh!

I used nioxin shampoo back then.

Editted since I noticed that the third picture was taken at a bc.org get-together in 2/2005. (not 2006)

Blake1960 - nope, I didn't lose eyebrows, though they are a little thinner, I've always used brow pencil to fill in, and the lashes seem to be staying too, which is good - mine are really long, so I was nervous about them falling out.  I'll check out the Nioxin line at the drug store and see what I can use to supplement the shampoo and conditioner.  Thanks!

Chelev...I had a breakout on my scalp that looked like pimples 10 days after my 2nd chemo treatment and it took about a week to clear up. I think I had folliculitis of the scalp. I used white vinegar on a cotton ball and rubbed it all over my head, seemed to help it.  I asked the onc about it after it had cleared up and he said to use Head and Shoulders shampoo.

Nodapearl... I went with the system 2 for definitely thinning hair.  I'm going to use the shampoo and conditioner every other day and then use the leave in conditioner once I see some growth.  My eyelashes are very thin, but my eyebrows are holding in.  Some people swear by revitalash, BUT it is very expensive.  I'm going to wait on that.  My onc said I can start back on my vitamins in a week or two.

Lainey64... I know there was some discussion on the use of biotin.  I didn't even have to bring it up to my onc.  SHE recommended it to me.

Tracy... What kind of fake eylashes did you wear before yours came fully back?

Sphynx... Thanks for the pics!  They certainly give me hope.  Your hair was darling 4 months out.

kmmd - My hair grew like a weed.  I wore a wig to work throughout chemo and ditched it after 2 months after completely shaving off the chemo baby fuzz hair.  I went bare at home.  I think it still is growing very fast (about an inch a month) but I wish I could thicken it up.  I'm taking biotin but maybe I should try the nioxin again?  My eyebrows never grew in that great but the lashes came in nicely.

One funny thing is that I never completely lost my arm hair. When my hair grew back, I look like a monkey with so much arm hair.  I still have the face fuzz that I think you can see in the first picture.  I could do without that.Tongue out

Whether it grows slow or fast, it does come back!

I never lost my brows or lashes until 2 month post chemo.  My last tx was Feb 09 and I started loosing brows and lashes early April.  The lashes are going back fast, the brows not so fast.

Mom of Boys, Unfortunately I don't know the name of them, but I got them at Target and they come in a light pink package.  I got the 110 size as that was pretty close to my natural length.  Also, if you go that route, get the clear adhesive, not the black.  The black shows up too much if you mess it up the first few times.

So today I thought something looked strange as I looked in the mirror... my freakin eyebrows are almost gone!? WTF?  2 months after chemo?!??!  How dare they!??!?   Craps.

Blake-The biotin shampoo is just a vitamin enhanced shampoo, I'm sure your doctor would say it's fine.

    Hi ladies.

enjoy,,,,,,,,,,,,I finished chemo in Aug 2007,,,,,,,,,,,and did herceptin till May 2008,,,,,,,,,,and I wasnt able to go wigless untill July 2008. And even then it was short. So dont feel bad. I know exactly how frustrating this is. I know that herceptin slows the hair growth.  Mine has come back but very thin on the top.  I too used nioxin and I take Biotin every day.  I asked my onc about and she said she just didnt know what to say except go to a dermatologist.  So I went,,,,,and she said the stuff she prescribes for people she cant give to patients who have had cancer. Figures, huh?  She suggested using the Rogaine for Men but be careful when applying as to not to your face as you will get hair where ever you touch if you have it on your hands.  But also,,,,,,,,,,the hair will come back using the Rogaine but if you stop,,,,,,those hairs that came in will fall out. Whats the point huh?  I was hoping for something permanent. She also suggested doing accupuncture.  I have had 5 accu treatments so far and I swear I can feel lil hairs coming in.  Will let you know more,,,,,,,the more treatments I have. I also am doing accu for hot flashes.  They have decreased a lil but not gone all the way.

I am also having a very hard time losing weight.  I missssssssss my estrogen.  I believe that not taking estrogen is messing my body up.  It sucksssssssssssss.

Sphynx,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,omggggggggggg I cant believe how much hair you had in that picture taken n 2005.  WTF did u do?  Thats awesome

I am jealous of your women whos hair has come back thicker.

    Good luck all.

Patience is a virtue which I dont have sometimes.  lol

I am confused about eyebrows/eyelashes....so many women say their's fell out after chemo, or near the end.  I have only had 5 out of 12 Taxol tx's, and they started falling out around #3.  I have just a few eyelashes left, and the eyebrows are literally half gone (the outer half is gone, the rest is thinning).

Did anyone else lose their eyebrows/lashes during chemo, not after?

I bought some false eyelashes, but have since seen some that have a clear base, so I am going to use those; I don't like the way the ones look that are black at the base.

    Judy

PS:  Nancy, wow, great hair, you give us all hope!

Does lack of estrogen play a part in weight gain?

Judy - good to hear from you. You are almost half-way done! How are you handling chemo? Your picture is great. My lashes and brows fell out late and came back quickly. Unfortunately, the lashes fell out a few more times way after chemo. Everything is back to normal now.

I know it's frustrating but, I haven't heard of anyone not growing their hair back after chemo. Some just grow really slow. I don't think I did anything special to make it grow fast. I shaved my head when it was falling out. When the baby downy hair grew in, I shaved that off also. It is wonderfully soft but didn't feel like real hair.

It's some kind of tease of nature. That was the only time I've ever had thick hair. Now it's very thin.

Don't forget to take advantage of the 'Look Good, Feel Better' program for your area. Tons of free makeup!

Jane - I'm not sure but I'm sure someone else will know.

My lashes fell out during chemo.  They would grow back and then fall out again.  lol  And yes,,,,,,,,I would say lack of estrogen plays a part in weight gain.  I believe thats why a lot of us women when going thru menopause gain weight.  ooooooo The joys of being a woman,  lol

My lashes and brows came out at the very end / after chemo. But I was only that way for a few weeks, they came back fast. Now, I don't know if this has *anything* to do with it, but I am very fair blonde, and never plucked my brows. (?)
