I heard that it's not good to use Rogaine because after you stop using it your hair will fall out.  Is this true?

Lainey,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,yes it is true if you stop using Rogaine the hairs that came in will eventually fall out.  My dermatologist said it was good to use,,,,,,,,just expect to keep using it for forever if you want to keep those hairs.  Ive been doing accupuncture,,,,,,,,,,,and i am getting new hairs.  My hair came back but very thin,,,,,,,,,,,specially on the top.  The back you can kinda just style so you dont see it,,,,,,,,,but the top you can see the scalp.  Although with the new hairs coming in its lookin better.

Just wanted to add also,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,when I did radiation I used Miaderm.  Worked wonderfully.  They have a website you can go to to buy it.  Just look up Miaderm on the search.

LAINEY64:   Thank you so much for your encouraging words.  Yes, I too, am my own worst critic!!!!!

I tried to get a picture of myself now into this message, but it just won't copy and paste.

How did you do that for yours?

Susan, so glad you went "topless" and are nearly done with rads! I'm really happy for you, sweetie!

Chelev, you poor thing you. Here's hoping your infection clears up fast, now that have a treatment for it.

Blake, I'm in love with your hairstyle in your avatar. Is that a wig? Do you have a larger picture you can post?

Lainey, if I look half as stunning as you do in a few weeks, I'll go topless too!

i've just read back about 10 pgs in here and have a list a mile long of products i want to go out and buy. i've been using the nioxin scalp therapy 2 since before my hair fell out. my stylist said it would help keep my scalp/follicles in top condition, and it just feels so good (i leave it on as a mask while i shower). now that i've got fuzz (only one week out of chemo, yay!), i'm going to keep using it. i also just started taking a multivitamin with biotin (altho my oncologist is very against supplements). for my brows & eyelashes, i'm using Ardell Brow & Lash Accelerator Treatment Gel. have no clue if it's working, but i like feeling proactive.

i think i'm gonna try mane & tail and the biotin shampoo next. and definately the logona herbal hair color when i get the medical green light ... tho i am curious to see how gray i am. i've been coloring for 25 yrs, so i have no idea!

i won't be ditching The Dreaded Wig anytime soon, tho. i too have a high profile job. and truth be told, i'm more comfortable looking as much as me as possible.

Lisa, congratulations on finishing chemo!!  I noticed the fuzz after a week or two out and then slowly the little dark hairs started appearing.  Before you know it, there will be a 5 o'clock shadow and suddenly "hair"!

Funny, I emailed my hairdresser last week and asked about what hair color I could do now, if any.  I was truthful and told her I only had about an inch of hair (if you looked real close) and lots of salt & pepper.  She emailed me today and told me to come in and she'll "shape it up to look sassy" and we'll discuss color.  God love her, but I had to crack up!  I emailed her back and told her that I think my hair is about as "sassy" as its gonna get for now.  Anyway, she still said to come in and she'll check it out and I'll get my brows waxed.  Yaay!

Thanks, Lisa!  I'm hoping a full week w/o wig will help accelerate things too.  I am comfortable being topless at home, outside and stuff (when the sun is not out), but yes, I agree - for me, the dreaded, hot sweaty wig, just looks more like "me" and makes me feel more normal moving about in the world.  Maybe when I'm at the point of some of these lovely ladies, and have enough to look like hair, no matter what color, I will go without.

LAYNIE:   thanks for helping me upload this pic - this is my hair right now.  I am waiting to ask my onc when I can color it, and when she gives me the go ahead, I will then 'flip my wig'

    Thanks!

    Lainey, your hair looks great!

Maggie, how many weeks since you ended chemo?

Chelev, you must have ended chemo about the same time I did. (Aprill 16) If I look at myself in the mirror at just the right angle I can see little white hairs on my head. Otherwise I still look bald.

    Hi Ladies,

Does anyone else have odd bald patches on their newly haired heads? My hair started to regrow in January and I still have a bald patch the shape of a circus peanut at the base of my skull. Could radiation have shot though it and killed all the hair? I didn't think my head was in the line of fire.

     Thanks for any insight.

    Sarah

Thank you, Spring & everyone.  It feels good to hear compliments and this is the best support group on earth!

Sarah, I have a couple of bare patches on the top of my head too.  I'm not sure why the top is taking longer to fill in then the rest.  I did notice (with the assistance of my magnifying mirror) that the patches have white hair so they look more bald.  I know a woman that lives in my complex who finished chemo several mths ago and she now has a had full of curly hair.  She told me that her hair grew in "patchy" and she was worried too but that it all evened out.  So don't despair - I think we are just being impatient (but rightly so!).

Cheryl, I remember how excited I was when I could see the white fuzzies without a closeup mirror.  Soon you'll begin to see a dark shadow!

Maggie,  you're too cute.  I hope your onc will let you color your hair soon but I think you look great "as is".  I've decided to wait awhile on my color and just see what my hair is going to do on its own.  Big bright earrings work great to take the emphasis off our heads!

Lisa810: Congrats on finishing chemo! My hair in the picture was right before my second treatment. I had long hair and then cut it short so when I lost it, it would not be as traumatic. I really liked it short. That is my goal is to get back to that style! Thank you for the compliment! I will have to figure out how to post the picture for you...

soaplady1950: Thank you for the information on the cream. I will have to check it out!

chelev: I hope your scalp is healing!

I hope everyone else is doing well!

Cheryl - yes, you are correct!  If I look in the mirror close up, I can see the gray/white/want to be brown hairs sticking up, from a distance, I'd be considered bald.  In the back, I guess where I have a cowlick, is a dark swirly pattern of the hair there, kind of looks like a hurricane, which is fitting, since I live in Florida.

Kathleen - YES, my head is finally looking better!!  The top is almost all cleared up, and the sides are getting there.  The bad spot is the back of my head - must be where my wigs really rub.  I'm wearing a pretty silk scarf today at work and have gotten several "Arghs" like I'm a pirate (uh, okay!), and a few "Oh, a scarf" comments, like people have never seen one.  Get over it people!!

I will post a photo of my head-in-progress once this stuff clears up, don't want to scare anyone!

Have a wonderful day and let's all grow some hair!!

Elaine-You look AWESOME!! Not just your hair but your skin looks really good too!

Maggie-You look wonderful ... another Jersey girl here... where in NJ are you?!

I realy think the biotin shampoo is helping my hair grow cause it's really taking off! But it's kinda wild and crazy sticking up straight if I don't wet it down.

    Tomorrow is my LAST RADS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh... did anyone find a hair color that was all "natural" no chemicals??

    Sue

Chelev; Arrgghh like a pirate?  Boy, you have a better sense of humor then I do, I think I might have had to put on a peg leg and stomp on their foot with it.  Or maybe use a pirate sword?  Get over it people is right

Oh, Kmmd.  I wear a beret and sometimes a headband under it and I get all sorts of comments .  Like ----some garbled french comment, or that I look like a nun, or that I look like a french chef.  Sometimes it bugs me, and sometimes I laugh.  I mostly get comments from men....

Yes, like arggggh like a pirate.  I tried to use the old Seinfeld "but I dont wanna be a pirate", but then just went with it.  I guess the slightly puffy, scoopneck shirt with a big black belt didn't help matters, but it matched the scarf!!  Unless I'm having a "moment", I usually have a great sense of humor, especially about myself.  My motto has always been, if you can't laugh, even at yourself, you're doing it wrong.  Life is about laughing and crying, but laughing is more fun.

I will take some photos this weekend,  now that it is getting a little better.  it really was too gross to shoot before, but it seems to be on the road to recovery, finally!!

Renee, you are coming along nicely!!  I wonder about the brows and lashes.  Mine didn't fall out, but I noticed my brows are a little thinner, or maybe because I don't have all of my hair in my face, it was very thick, and I wore it long, with long bangs, so I might have have seen how thin I'd let them become!  I think I'll grow them back in a little more, seeing how much I fill them in now.  But at least my skin is very clear on my face - when I was on estratest (the thing that they think stimulated and encouraged the bc), I was breaking out like a teenager.  Great . . .beauty treatments because of bc.  Now I know I've gone off the deep end.
