OK, can I ask a crazy question.  My hair seems to grow in spurts, I'll notice a mm, then several days with nothing, then another mm of growth.  The thing is, I swear at the times it is growing a little my head itches like crazy.  The rest of the time nothing.  Try not to scratch, but, I'm beginning to worry people will think I've shaved my head for lice or something.  It's driving me nuts.  Has anyone else noticed this?

    Just wanted to share:

I am now 6.5 months past last chemo, and I am finally not crazed about my hair any more. I have enough that it looks "normal" and I don't have "hair dreams" any more!!!

It is curly-ish, which I am not used to, but oh well!!!

    Spring.

Chelev....I lost my eyebrows after my 4th of 6 treatments.  I lost half on my eye lashes during treatment then the rest 10 weeks after my last one.  Many people grow them back after chemo then loose them again.  I'm hoping since mine fell out the rest of the way it won't happen to me.

Soap...  Go to photoshop.com and set up an account.  Then you upload the photo and copy it's HTML.  Once you do that you click on the icon, when you're posting a message, that has a  tree in a box.  It's easier than it sounds. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong ladies.

    Good to see you Deb.

I am loving these pictures!  Thanks for posting Renee!

Spring, I have "hair dreams" all the time!  Just a few days ago I dreamed I had a head full of platinum blonde curls.  Ugh!!!  I hate those dreams!  I hope they end soon.

Kmmd, sometimes my head gets itchy too.  Interesting.. I wonder if that means it's "growing"!

    Hi Ladies,

SPRINGTIME:   Thank you!  Wow, I can't wait for my hair to be "normal" and not have the "hair dreams" too!!!

XPECTMIRACLES:  I finished chemo 5 months ago (December 2008).  I would say my hair started to "grow" a couple of weeks later.

SUSAN13:  Thank you! I'm in Monmouth County, where in NJ are you?? CONGRATULATIONS ON FINISHING UP YOUR RADS!!!!!  Great feeling, huh?????

KMMD:  Yes, sometimes my head gets itchy too!!!!  It just might mean 'growing'!!!!  Hope so!!!!

LADIES, I just had my mammogram on Wednesday (the first one since my surgery) - and all is well!!!!!!!!!!!    THANK GOD!!!!!!!  I am scheduled for an MRI also, my surgeon tells me she likes to do an MRI about a year after surgery - so that's where I'm at right now!!!!!  Still getting the Herceptin tx every 3 weeks until August.  But I get no se's from that - so, it's a piece of cake.

It's great to see so many of us sharing our pics!!!!   Thanks to Laynie, it seems to have 'caught on' and it is a great idea  -  we all need to see how each other are progressing  -  it sure helps!!!!  Thanks, Laynie!!!!

Good night all  -  wishing everyone a great Memorial Day weekend!!!!

Will be back tomorrow!!!!  Love this site  -  you gals are all so helpful and always "up"  -  thanks all!!!!!!

My last chemo was 3/13. My new hair is very dark, about half an inch long. But the grays are at least 2-3 inches long. It is the weirdest thing!

Renee-I have your hairstyle, except mine is almost black!

    Deb-I love your new pic!

Renee, Thanks for posting your photos!  Did you shave it to be all one length?  I went bald last night at a sound healing flower ceremony and it is very COLD without my hat!  I'm still pretty bald on top and on the sides.  It's going to take me a month or two more to let the hat go at work, but I so want to be there.

My head gets cold too!  If I'm under a fan or in a room with cold a/c blowing, I'm freezing if I'm not wearing a wig or scarf.

Good news, everyone - finally seeing the folliculitis clearing up.  Only one bad spot in the back of my head, but my DH checked it out this morning and said it looks really good everywhere else - just small, tiny healing spots.  Yahoo!  After three weeks with this thing taking over my scalp, I'm taking it back.  Now, hopefully it will enable my hair to begin growing again.

Maggie, great news about the mammogram!!  That's the kind of thing we all want to hear at our follow up exams!  Keep us posted about the MRI too.  I am scheduled to see my bs after I am finished with rads, before I start on Arimidex or whatever they are going to put me on, and I believe he is sending me for an MRI and PET scan, just to make sure all is clear.  I had clear margins at surgery, so hopefully everything will be negative.

I will get some photos of my current head / hair status this weekend and post them.  I'm 5 weeks out, and my growth was somewhat delayed by the folliculitis, but it should be revving back up, I hope!

chelev - Sorry it took me so long to respond to you.  I don't check this thread very often becuase it depresses me, my hair growth seems to be much slower than the norm.  I live in PSL, but spend most of my time in Ft. Pierce on my horse ranch.  I would love to get together with yo sometime.

This coming Monday will be 15 weeks post chemo for me and my hair is barely 1/8 inch long. grrrr.

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR CONGRATULATIONS ON MY GOOD NEWS!!!!!  It's so nice to know that people really do care!!!!!

I got up the nerve and went out without the wig, but I did wear a baseball cap - but at least the little hair showing on the sides and back is my own!!!!  Met a few neighbors and I almost freakin' froze  -  but no one even showed any reaction  -  but I'm sure they mentally had some opinion.  But, like my DH said, who cares?       At least I "broke the ice".  I know I am my own worst enemy, for sure!!!!!!  Hate it, but can't help it.

I forgot to mention aside from the Herceptin, I'm also taking Femara (the five year pill).  Alot of oncs go with the Arimidex, but mine obviously opted for the Femara - what the difference is I have no clue - but they both supposedly do the same job.

Have a great weekend, girls!!!!    And, thanks again - as we all know the support we give each other on here is phenomenal  -   sooooooo very helpful!!!!!!

Maggie-good for you going without the wig. I have not yet, but as soon as my hair grows some more, I will. Your DH is right, "who cares"!

Lisa-my hair grew to about 1/2 inch rather quickly, but has not budged since. It is aggravating. A coworker finished chemo at the end of Jan. Her hair is about 2 inches and thick! She even colored out all the grays already. She has not started Tamox yet either, so maybe that has something to do with it. My hair used to grow fast. This is so frustrating.

kjbell -  Since I am still on herceptin I am blaming that for the slow growth, but who knows.  I also started tamox 3 weeks after the last tx.  I just want my hair back. - Great, now I am whining!

I wonder, what is the general growth pattern of eyelashes?  Mine all fell out AFTER chemo and now there is absolutely no eyelash three weeks and two days later.  I know it is a bit soon; I just am curious to know when I should start ppering into the mirror again!!!  Kiss

Jess, mine took about a month before I could see little tiny black dots where the eyelashes used to be.  They grew back in about as slowly as my hair--which is very slow.  Most others seem to report faster growth

I have a big question...I have been done for a little over 7 weeks and my head looks like Jaimieh, but yet I have ALL KINDS OF HAIR ON MY LEGS!!  What is up with that???  I wish I could put some of it on my head.  Has anyone else had that?

Jess, my eyelashes fell out about 6 weeks after chemo, but they started grwoing back in almost immediately - but growing slowly.  I do have enough to put mascara on.

Believe1 - If I could take the hair from my legs and face and put it on my head, I would have enough to braid!  That is a cruel, cruel joke!

I've gotta say, my hair on my legs has been scant enough.  I haven't missed it a bit, though I remember enjoying NOT shaving my legs during the 70s.  It was my rebellion (among other actions!  Embarassed)  alntough I have to admit it looked pretty scruffy.  I haven't paid any attention to the hair on my armpits....I guess I should now that I have to raise my right arm during rads.  Sigh.

Jess - I'm with you on that!  Wish the hair on my legs would never come back, and it all migrates to my head, and fast!!  Get your underarm shaving in while you can, most rad oncs recommend not shaving, or using an electric razor because it can get very sensitive.  My underarm area is really tender, probably due to the lymph node area swelling from the rads.

Lisa - sounds like a plan - we should get together since we live in the same town!  We can compare bald heads and see whose hair is growing faster.

Believe1 - can you believe it - we're so far out from last chemo and its barely moving!  I don't know, I guess I thought the hair would turn on like a switch and poof, hair is right back where it was before it fell out.  Silly me.

My last chemo was 3/13 and just recently my bottom lashes fell out. I can count 3 on 1 eye, 5 on the other. 3/4 of my left brow came out too. How can I expect my head hair to grow when lashes and brows are still coming out?

kjbell, I have read that the lashes and brows may leave and come back 3 TIMES!!!!

chelev, I only work Mon, Tues, Wed.  What days are you available?  I am close to SLW

Okay I have decided that the hair thing is cruel and I'm not even 1 week out from Chemo.  I have leg hair, amazon arm hair (that I never lost), parts of my eyebrows that are gone and parts that are growing back like a 90 year old man and the hair south is growing back.  What the heck gives why can't I pick where my hair grows.....grrrr.....  I'm starting the pictures on Monday to track my hair growth or lack thereof in the coming weeks.

I have to borrow that term "amazon arm hair".  I never lost my arm hair either, Jaimieh and it came back like a monkey!  The facial hair - it's just cruel.  Back when I was going through this, everyone assured me that the facial hair would go away.  Well, I was the anomaly.

But, the hair on my head did come back thicker than I ever had hair in my life.  I noticed that many of you are watching the growth of that baby duck hair that first comes in.  I didn't consider that real hair and shaved it off!  I know, that's hard but it would be harder waiting for the baby fuzz to go away and have the real thick stuff come in.   Of course, this is just my experience!  Not exactly scientific.

I put pictures back on page 60.  Six years out, my hair is exactly like it was before, THIN!  It was nice while it lasted.   Don't get discouraged you guys.  It just takes time and the best part is we are around to talk about it.

What is up with the arm hair thing?  I lost all of my arm hair, but it would always start to come back between tx's only to fall out again.  That stuff is resiliant.

    Sphynx, thanks for the encouragement.

It is pretty pathetic how I am scouring my head every day or sometimes several times a day for something other than "duck hair" (the stuff I got excited about at first),and then, yesterday, two whole real hairs showed up!  I was so excited.  Dark hairs, poking through.  Good lord, if I am this excited about two hairs, I'm going to have a coronary when the whole head shows up!  Since I'm still treating the folliculitis, which is getting better every day, my derm doesn't want me to reshave my head, just in case it aggravates it again.  So, I'll have weird duck hair and my two brown hairs.

I didn't lose the hair on my arms, but underarms seem a little sparse, which is okay, since I can't shave the side getting treatment.  I do feel a little weird in sleeveless tops, careful not to raise my arm, just in case.  Leg hair seems to be normal, darn it.  And the lower region looked like it was going away at first, but it's sort of spotty bald in places.  Very attractive.

Lisa, I work M-F in Ft. Pierce, usually 7:30 to 4:30, though now I am out at 3:30 to run down to SLW for my rads at 4.  Maybe we can meet at Starbucks in SLW for coffee sometime?

I just saw the great pic of Lainey a few pages back.  At 9 weeks, she had what I now have at 15 weeks. Grrrrr..........
