I am leaning on not shaving it but if it helped at all with it being shaved I was gonna do it.  It's sunny today so I will try to get my wonderful husband to take a picture of my duck fuzz.  I plan on taking weekly pictures.

Looking in the mirror this morning, I got good news and I got bad news.  The good news is I have a full covering of hair, very short, but the head is fully covered.  The bad news is, I seem to have sprouted a large amount of grey overnight.  Oh well, at least it is hair!

Lisa, my young niece asked why the chemo turned my hair from red to grey.  Totally cracked me up.  Had to tell her the chemo stopped the dye is all.

Lisa, that's great!  I was using the magnifying mirror this morning to see if I had any eyebrow hair that needed grooming - it's slowly growing in from thinning way out - and used it to try to see the hair(s?) on my head.  Happy to report, that while it is very very short (1/8 or 1/4 of an inch?), there are dark hairs mixed in with the grays.  the grays are the long, duck hair.  The darks are coming back, just so short they don't look like anything.  Progress, I say!

Lisa, are you available to get together on Wed afternoon or maybe Friday?  I have to go in early on Friday, for my boost measurements, so I should be finished early too - thinking around 3:30 or so?  We can meet at SLW Starbucks.  If you want to, we can pm for phone #s just in case one of us is running late.

Have a great, hair-growing day, ladies.

Jaimieh - did your DH survive the night?  It's so nice when they are SO helpful, isn't it?  Mine pointed out that my head didn't look so scary now that the infection is almost gone.  Sigh. . . thank you, Mr. Obvious!

Lisa, I know!  What is the deal with all the grey?  My head is covered with it and I know I had nowhere this much pre-chemo!

Well, I went to see my hairdresser on Saturday!  I was going for an eyebrow wax (yay!) and wanted her to check out my hair.  She said it's long enough for her to color but she wants me to wait at least 6 wks because it still has a lot of growing to do. Yeah, I know that!  I had more hair dreams last night... ugh!  I am going to head over to Whole Foods this morning to see if I can find some natural or henna hair color just to play around with.  One thing my hairdresser did do was she shaped the hair above my ears closer to my head.  I didn't think it was possible to "sass" my hair up, but she did!  She trimmed one side and then compared it to the other and you could see a difference.  She made it look like it was "styled" that way and not "growing" out.  It was such a minimal adjustment but it made me feel good to just sit in her chair again.  It's more mental than anything I think!

You got it, Lainey!!  I can't wait until I can go to the hairdresser for some shaping.  I think it will start growing with a venegance now that the infection seems to be almost gone - that had to have delayed it and now the follicles can breathe and be happy again.  Great news on your first trim!!!!

chelev - Don't spend money to get shaped.  Just go to the Indian River State College Cosmetology Dept.  That is where I work.  I will ask one of the hair teachers to shape you up.  One of them trims my neck once a week and trims off the wild "duck" hairs.  Only takes 10 minutes.  I am not available either of those days.  Wednesday I promissed my dad I would do a project for him and Friday I am hosting a large group from out of town for horseback riding at the beach.  They are all coming in Thursday afternoon and camping on my ranch.  But I am a free bird the following week!

Lainey, I know darned good and well that I did NOT have this much grey before chemo!  I have a tube of Prisms that I am going to put on it.  Prisms by Matrix is a semi-permanent color and it will not stain the scalp and has no irritants.

Lisa - let us know how the prisms works for you.  That is exactly what I need, something semi permanent that won't stain the scalp.  I am only 3 weeks out, so there's not much hair.  I think a little color would really help.

Anyone having trouble with lashes growing in?  Mine are coming in white (not all, only some) and pointing every which way.  Some are poking me in the eye, causing my eyes to be very red, itchy and irritated.  I was looking forward to regrowth.  Didn't anticipate all these issues.

Lisa - thanks for the heads up - I can stop there on my way home when I am getting enough hair to do anything with.  Okay, we'll try for next week.  Horseback riding on the beach sounds fun - have a great time!!  And, keep us posted on the Prisms - I agree with Nodapearl - once it comes in a little more, it will look much better with a little harmless color on than all the gray!

The Prisms works great guys!  I used it when I was at the "colorless fuzzy" stage.  Just ask your hairdresser for it!

Chevel - we will shoot for next week!

Here's a silly question that I would like to share and ask for your opinion(s) about...

Before BC, my hair was colored a strawberry blonde shade for years.  Now, post BC and chemo and almost post radiation, my hair is finally coming back and is a mixture of grey and white with a little brown here and there.  My DH loves it and wants me to promise not to color it -- I hate it and want to color it as soon as there is enough to color.  I hope I can stand it long enough to let him enjoy the natural color for a few more weeks (I still keep my head covered when I go out), but the grey has to go before I go bare headed.  I don't want to upset my DH, but it's my hair and I don't want to look any older than necessary.  What would you do?  --bonnie

Bonnie, I would color it in  NY second!  You are the one that survived cancer and you are the one that has been bald.  Do what YOU want to do.

Hey Lisa -- those are my exact thoughts, but sometimes I lose track of what it is I really want and need for myself.  Thank you for giving me some perspective.  Today I am going to go look for Prisms by Matrix.  Tomorrow I may also give notice at my job, since I turned 62 just a couple of weeks ago.  DH isn't too sure about that either, but he will adjust to hair that isn't grey and a wife that doesn't work.  We've been married for 40 years, so I don't think he's going anywhere.

Bkokie - same as you.  I was a strawberry blonde.  I'm 5 weeks post chemo and my hair is coming in BROWN and GREY.  ack!

I'm with you.  Once there is enough of it, I'm coloring it.  Though I love the feeling of it...it's so baby soft!  I don't want the color to damage the feel!

    Hi ladies,

My last TCH was on 5/4 (exactly 3 weeks ago), I have the 5 o'clock shadow.  It's not as dark as my original color (black), but it's not silver or gray as I expect.  I never lost my arm hair, only my legs (which was really nice not to have to wax for 6 months), and the leg hair started to grow.

I just did a CE (continue education) on a new drug.  It's called LATISSE.  it's an eye drop to help the thickness and growth of eyelashes.  I spoke to my oncologist last week to see if I can try it out.  The only thing is that if you stop using it, the lashes will go back to their original thickness.  I figured at this point my lashes need any kind of help they can get, and my oncologist is OK with it, she wrote me a prescription.  I'll start using this week, it requires an application twice daily, and one bottle lasts one month.  Will post the result in a month.

    Cil.

Lisa1964 - sounds like a plan - we can try to get together one day next week - I'll be back to work, I will let you know how my week is going.

I don't have a hairstylist at the present - my sister, who has been my stylist for almost 15 years, was the one who cut my long hair short, and she was such an unfeeling B****H, telling me as I'm bawling my head off (it was also the day we decided to start chemo, having just left the oncologist and the Cancer Society wig closet with a very ugly wig I did not end up keeping, and it was the only other day I'd cried since the day I was dx'd), "It's just hair", and being so unfeeling about it all, and who I might add, hasn't called me since that day, to even see how I am, (I've left her several voicemails, but since she never called me back, i've moved on, life is too short and I don't know what her problem is).  So, needless to say, when I do get enough hair to style, I'll be finding myself a new stylist.   Can I get Prisms at Sally's?  Lisalisa - I agree, the "duck hair" is so soft, and it's weird - the new growth, my real hair, I guess it would be, is so prickly.

Ok, I went to Whole Foods today and purchased some "Naturtint" natural hair color.  I got the light chestnut brown.  I put it on my hair and couldn't stand the wait so I washed it out after 20 min. (was supposed to leave it on for 30).  I was panicking and afraid what little hair I had was going to fall out!  It didn't fall out but what I got is a light brown color.  It looks okay I guess but  I'm just not used to it because all I'm used to seeing is the silver and brown.  On the bright side, it didn't stain my scalp.

Bonnie, my boyfriend really liked my silver hair too.  He's gonna be in for a shock today when he comes home from work!

What is it with husbands/boyfriends liking the silver hair?  Mine is the same way.  I thought it was because he was being nice and didn't want me to feel bad.  I want to wash this grey right out of my hair.  I think I'll look into the "Naturtint."  Kind of leery of chemicals right now.

chevel - You cannot get Prisms at Sally's.  But since I am licensed, I can get it for you at Beauty Alliance.  Just tell me what color you want and I will pick it up.  It is very easy to use, I will telll you how when we meet.  The wholesale price for a tube that will last you over a year is about $25. I don't understand your sister's attitude.  My sister has been supportive, but she is 700 miles away, but she did manage to piss me off over the hair.  I had been avoiding her calls because I knew she was going to ask about my recent hair loss, so I sent her an e-mail and said I would call her, but the hair topic was off limits.  Not two minutes into the conversation, she says "so, how about the hair" I said "I don't want to talk about it" she said "It's just hair".  I hung up on her.

Reen, I am really leary of chemicals right now too.  I was soooo scared when putting the color on. I tried the Naturtint because it has no ammonia.  I stared at in the store for about 10 min then came home and researched it online then I went back and bought it.  I'm still  on the fence about the color though.

Lisa, Oooh, don't get me started.  I was talking about hair to some coworkers awhile back and how obsessed with it I had become and one of the ladies told me that her husband has been bald for years and it's "no big deal".  Since then, I don't talk about hair when she's around anymore!

Hey girls..........about the Prisms,,,,,,,,,,now when u say that a tube will last over a year?  Do you just put it on the roots?  I'm gonna have to check that out.  I also colored my hair when it was about 1/2 in long,,,,,,,,,I couldnt stand the gray.  lol  I do use the Revlon hair color,,,,,,,,I guess I've never been too worried about the chemicals and all,  I really never thought about it being so harmfull.......or I'm just plain ignorant,,,,, but maybe I should be concerned.  Yikes. Now I'm worried.  ooooooo and about those of you that say your husbands like the color it is now?  You just do what is right for YOU.  Its your hair,,,,,,,,,and your decision.  Do what makes YOU feel good.

Chelev,,,,,About your sister saying its just hair? omg,,,,,,,,easy for people to say that stuff huh?  For me the hardest thing was losing my hair.  Not that its all that and a bag of chips,,,,,,but I think for us women it identifies who we are.  Maybe thats not a good way to be,,,,,,,,I dont know. I was never comfortable going wigless,,,,,,,,,but that was just a personal thing for me.  I totally admire women who can go topless,,,,,,,,,and wished I could've been that way.  Big kudos to those of you women that could. But it pisses me off when people say things like,,,,,,,"what are you worried about, its just hair, it will come back"  Yeah,,,,,,,easy for them to say,,,,,,,,they didnt lose their hair. Mine came back but way thinner than it used to be.  Maybe its my payback for being so obsessed about losing it.  lol

And why is it that the products that they have for getting hair back,,,,,,,,such as the Rogaine and that other stuff that Cil was talking about for eyelashes,,,,,,,,the hair grows back but when you stop using it those hairs will fall out again?  Sooooooooooo not fair.

Lisa1964,,,,,,,,,,,,are you the same Lisa1964 that posted on the TCH thread?  If so,,,,,,,,good to hear things are going well with you.

Have a good Memorial Day ladies.

Yep Cinrae -  Same Lisa1964!   I can't thank you enough for starting the TCH Thread.  It got me thru this and I have met so many great people!  As for the Prisms.  Because it is semi permanent, it has to be reapplied over the entire head.  It will wash out in about 3 to 6 weeks depending on how often you shampoo and the pH of the shampoo you use.  But when the hair is short, a drop the size of quarter with do the whole head and then some.  You just need a $3 hair color brush.

I saw the product for eyelash growth advertised in my PS office last Friday.  My lashes are growing back OK now, but if they stall, I will not hesitate to get the script!

Lisa, what's the difference between permanent and semi-permanent?  The color I got today claims that it is permanent but I'm really hoping that with multiple shampoos that it will lighten up some.

Lisa1964 -- where can I get Prisms hair color?  I asked at a hair salon today and also at a retail supplier, but neither had it.  I can hardly wait to get rid of this silver and grey hair, so may use something semi-permanent from the drug store.  --bonnie

It makes me feel better that there are other husbands and boyfriends who say they like the silver grey look.  I know mine really does like it, but he doesn't have to look in the mirror and see some granny looking back.  I might be 62 and a granny for real, but I don't want to look it!  --bonnie

At what point will you know what your true color will be.  Right now I have a mix from white, grey, blond and brown.   Someone also told me not to color for the first year after you lose your hair.  I don't remember if they gave me a reason.  Has anyone else heard this?
