Woo Hoo!
Hubby says it looks like new hair coming in on top of my head! It is white like my 'old' color. I am 6 weeks since last Taxol. I can't see it myself, sure hope he is right.

Allydp-Hi!! Fancy meeting you here!!! I think a little is coming in in the bald spots but there are still areas of complete, skin only baldness. It's freakin me out!! And I have to start Tamoxifen the week after my surgery which may slow growth on top of the herceptin that may do the same...UGH!!

Three and a half weeks PFC, and I have only a trace of peach fuzz. I'm feeling so down about this...growing hair was the one thing I thought I could look forward to after chemo. Is there anything I can do? My doctor says to just be patient. I just want to be "me" again. I'm imaging being bald for another year Sorry to be a downer this morning, but I think I might have had unrealistic expectations. I really thought I'd have at least a shadow of hair by now.

Swissmiss - When you were a baby did your hair come in real fast or did you still have just a little at 1 year old? I have a theory that hair comes in like it did when you first got it. (Not a year but slower if it was slow to begin with.) Just a thought.

brigadoon...I have the sinking feeling your theory is correct, and it makes sense. Unfortunately, I was basically bald even on my first birthday...it's actually funny to see photos and videos of myself running around with nothing more than peach fuzz at that age. By age two I had a full head of hair I think seeing my baby photos is what keeps me thinking that I need to expect to wait a year, and that hoping for hair any sooner will be disappointing.

Maybe not a year but slower. At least you won't give up. Its not permanent!
}Mine was the same. I had about 1/2 inch. Thanks t is probably the curse of having light hair.
When I was a girl I lived in Vinita. My grandmother had a house on Grand Lake. Oklahoma is far from being my favorite State but I do have found memories of that time.

Yes, perhaps all that promised fun of being a blonde just takes a little longer

Swiss misss. If you PM me your address I will gladly send you some Sassy Head to put a little bling on your head! If your not familiar it's on FaceBook and sassyhead.com.

swissmiss, yes you might love the sassy head by jbokland. Also I was the same way. Slow grower and at 4 wks still had barely peach fuzz (see first pic). I posted here many times just like you. I also, have posted my hair growth progress and here I am at 4 and 7 wks PFC then now at 3 1/2 months. It's so hard to be patient and that is what everyone here kept telling me. I didn't believe it. I thought I might be bald forever also! My hair is still shorter and slower growing than most at this point but once it starts coming you will see a lot of change. It definitely wont be a year. At 1 mo PFC I thought I wouldn't have hair until oct or nov, that's what I was figuring but now I do and loving it! (It is like watching paint dry though...I totally get it)

Lisaj...your photos are giving me some hope, thanks so much for posting. You look beautiful!

My son swears I have fuzzies growing on the back of my head and more black hair. I can feel it, but I never shaved my head and not all my hair fell out. I still sleep with a sleep cap. My eye lashes look like they are falling out and my brows have thinned a bit. I did notice though that I had a bout an inch of hair on my legs! I don't think it ever fell out. Also, I have not had to pluck my eyebrows in the past 3-4 years and yesterday I noticed two hairs in the area you have to pluck.
I just don't know.

I have a question about eyelashes... I'm ok with penciling on eyebrows if/when they fall out (I start TC chemo tomorrow), but my eyelashes will be a real loss for me. My BFF says I have a magical face b/c I can just put on mascara and it looks like I have my whole face done! I don't do it all that often, but if I'm going to lose my hair, I would like to be able to do something... What's the scoop on false eyelashes? I've never used them, so I'm totally ignorant on how they work. I've read through several pages here & see very little mention of false eyelashes, only one person I found, who said they didn't work for her. Any other experiences or info?

Yes! I went to a local costume and wig shop that caters to drag queens. Got some good lessons but the real tip is is practice practice. It takes practice! Nothing like trying to get ready and sweating your ass off fighting with these things!
What I learned was to apply eyeliner first. Also, eyeliners will slide odd into your eye without the eyelashes to stop it,,, it stayed better if I used a base of powder shadow. ( I used a natural color , as I normally do t wear shadow. )
Apply glue along falsie and let it dried 20 secs or so. I close my eye half way and pull the outer corner ever do slightly taught.
I bought all kinds of brands. Didn't have to spend a lot. ($4 avg) I also learned to pick out ones with a solid lash base that looks like a continuos line.
Check out YouTube videos too!

jbokland - thanks so much. Your hair is really coming along! It looks great!
Jules - I'm freaking out too! We will have to keep each other updated on how the growth is going. I've been shaving mine down every couple weeks or so since I'd rather grow it out evenly! I'm going have hubby take some pics so I can monitor more closely rather than eyeing it every day. I will say, the last time he shaved my head, he thought he saw some growth. We shall see.
Anyone one else here have issue with hair growing back on just the back and sides and not on top?

My hair is starting to grow back mostly on the back and top. The front and sides are still bald or sparse. I the long hairs are what is left of my 'old' hair as I didn't shave it, just cut it really short.
It is coming in white which is the color I had before. Don't see any curls yet. This is 6 weeks after Taxol.

Thanks, for the YouTube suggestion, jbokland! I hit the jackpot with this lady's YouTube channel & blog!

She does great tutorials on brows and lashes, as well as some scarf-tying tricks and headwear ideas. She has alopecia and she's absolutely beautiful!

StrongEnough - Having sold Mary Kay for several years it bothers me that she pulls on her eyelid! Stretch that skin out! lol I actually bought Mary Kay eye shadow in black. With her eye shadow you can wet it and turn it into an eye liner. I bought an brush that is kind of crooked so when you apply you hold it straight in front of your eyes but it is bent towards your eyelids if that makes sense. I feel like I have more control.
Also, if you use Urban Decay's eye shadow primer on your lids before you apply it will stay in place all day.

Hello All, Haven't posted in awhile, but am now experiencing what many of you have - loss (again!) of eyelashes and brows, nearly 3 weeks PFC. They must grow fast, because a few new eyelashes are already coming in. Don't know if it was an after gift from Taxol, but was diagnosed last week with eye infections in both eyes and am on steroid eye drops. So no eyeliner for me. Boo! At the mountains all weekend with kids and grands and in the photos my eyes looked scrunched. Eye make up is soooo important!!
Guess my baby chick white head hair is growing, albeit ever so slowly. Noticed that if I have hair anywhere on my body it is all the white, soft stuff - little on legs, arms.

notbuyingit - did you put the onion in any shampoo or Nioxin? Also, how much did you put in?

Hi there. Here I am. I had my last treatment of TC four weeks ago. I got nuthin. My head is *almost* to Lisaj514's first picture above.
I have not worn any head coverings or wigs. I've just been bald all summer. I'm far too hot all the time to have anything on my head.
Pre chemo my hair was very dark brown - almost black - just beginning to salt and paper on the sides. However, it was also thin and straggly. I want better hair this time. I deserve that, right? I started using Rogaine as soon as I had my last treatment. I also had thin lashes so am starting latisse this week too. I figure its easier to see the results starting bald then starting it all with a head of hair. But whatever, I just want hair back now. I'm done with the Alfred Hitchcock look.

lespring, does your insurance cover Latisse? I see that several ladies are using it, and I just wondered if insurance would cover it since the hair loss is from chemo??
Thanks, Birdlady

homemom, i had Nioxin so i added it to that - now i am using Andalou, something my daughter gave me & have added it to that. The lady that told me about it said her daughters use it, I assume with normal shampoo. I just dice up about 1/2 onion and dump it in. You can google it - it's a real thing

MomMom, no eye makeup is a bummer. Hopefully, the infection will pass, just wear sunglasses for now.
birdlady, I do not think Latisse is covered by insurance for eyelash growth. However, you can do the frugal plan like mine. I have been using one bottle of Latisse for almost a year and it is not empty yet. I only use one drop for both eyes and the eyebrows. I use it twice per week sometimes once.
My eyelashes are not as long as they could be if I use it everyday, but they are better than before. When I use mascara then they really show. My eyebrows are definitely thicker, sometimes I do not even have to apply brow stuff. I might stop the Latisse on the brows, because I do not want them any thicker.

My lash-less, browless friends...I totally lost my brows and lashes about 4 wks PFC. It made my face look so alien like and "blank". They were thinning before I finished but not totally gone until after. I started wearing my glasses most of the time during chemo instead of contacts as my eyes were so dry. It kind of hid the lash less look and gave some definition to my face and eyes when I didn't have lashes or brows. Glasses are really in now so even get a fake pair in a fun style or color if you don't normally wear them. I also used liquid type eyeliner which I never used before, just pencil. I tired different types but found that Maybeline Master Precise eyeliner, which is liquid but uses a little foam like brush was easier to control and stayed on my lash-less lids and then with my glasses and drawn on brows I had some definition to my eyes and face
Looking in the mirror was so hard at this stage...I so get it! But the beauty inside shines through for all women. I have never seen women look so beautiful as they do with no hair. I didn't believe it but when I look at others pictures all I see is strength, grace and beauty

Unfortunately no, the Latisse is not covered by insurance. It is $120 for the tiny bottle but should last a very long time. My eye doctor gave me like 20 refills. LOL I did find that latisse is being studied for scalp hair because it works so well on lashes.
I can't wear eye make up AT ALL. My eyes are watering so bad from the taxotere. I constantly look like I'm crying. I mean the tears run down my face like a river all day long. My MO said it should stop in a couple of weeks.
My eye brows hung on until the very last treatment. My lashes are thin but not gone. The glasses do help a bit. I need new ones though!

Ladies - You all look great! I agree with Lisa, we may loose our hair, our lashes, our brows, but we haven't lost our spirits!!Notbuyingit, Your hair growth looks terrific. So you add 1/2 cup diced onions to your bottle of Nioxin. Is that right? Notice that you don't have the white hair! Did you color it?
I have been using a product called Brow Lash on my brows only (comes in a silver tube kinda like mascara) which is applied with a thin brush. It's the poor man's Latisse. I'm afraid to use it on my eyelids (especially not now with eye infections) because I had a friend who used it and she had way, way too long lashes that looked almost creepy, plus there was discoloration under her eyes from it. Just sayin. I had sparse brows before all this and now they are practically non-existent. I am putting on the Brow Lash though as it helped thicken them before chemo. You can find the Brow Lash in Bed, Bath & Beyond. I always have tons of 20% off coupons because they never expire (even though they have expiration dates), which brings the cost down to about $32. One tube lasts for at least 3 months. BTW, if you use any lash product on your brows, you should first go over them with a Q tip or something with alcohol on it and then pat dry before applying. Heard this tip on TV as other creams and such will not permit the brow product to work properly.

Should I wait until I'm done with the Taxol to start the onion mix shampoo? My last treatment is Sept 5th. Can you tell I'm anxious to get my hair back?!!
0 -
Correction - the name of the brow/lash product that only costs about $40 (20% with coupon at Bed Bath & Beyond) is Rapid Lash eye lash enhancing serum. As noted above, I'm afraid to use any of that stuff on my lashes, but it's done a great job of adding to my brows - even if they are white - it's hair!

LesSpring - I got my RX for Latisse filled at WalMart and it was $160 for a TINY bottle. It was originally developed for glaucoma & I think insurance will cover for that only. During my 9 months of chemo (extended for 2nd round of different poisons) I used it on my lashes & brows every day - one drop in the lid & brush on. I'm pretty sure I ended up using 3 bottles. I never lost all my lashes or my brows although they got thin a few times. I can't even imagine how much you'd have to use & spend to cover hair growth on the head.
