I have been topless since my hair fell out, and I was cue ball smooth the entire time. ;-) Here's a picture I took last week.

    image

I'll try to get some pictures tonight of what I look like now. Just peach fuzz that can only be seen when it catches the light just right. However, last night I took a selfie of the back of my head (interesting trying to do that!) because its the only way I can see whats happening back there. I have a few black hairs coming in! This is a thing compared to the colorless things I have everywhere else! Funny though, I was telling my husband last night, if there's one thing I'm going to miss, it is NOT having to shave my legs or armpits!!! Or "any other" grooming since my pubes are still gone too!

lespring, I know...trying to take a selfie of the back of our heads...great for ROM exercise though! And I know, I loved how smooth my legs were without hair and didn't need to shave legs...and other parts. But it all comes back along with the head hair...oh well. Back to normalcy I guess

10 weeks PFC. Almost looking like my old self, but with a little wave, I think!  I've got a little 'Carol Brady' flip in the back...but I don't have the balls to cut this new hair yet!

Hi Kite, My name is Margo and I was reading your post and saw you had a double Mastectomy in 2011. Can I ask why it says you were diagnosed again 2/14? I am still so new to all this. (I'm also new to these boards, not even sure if I'm doing it right? :(  )

    Hi Lexi,

It's all so overwhelming and confusing in the beginning, so no worries! You will catch on on. 8)

My original diagnosis was 11/2011. I was stage 1. I had the surgery and began chemo in Jan. of 2012. I completed 6 rounds.I continued with Herceptain (the target therapy for HER2+) for a year. So in Jan of 2013 I was all done with all things cancer besides my normal check ups. In Feb. of this year I had some back pain and went in for a check up and a bone scan. It showed I had bone metastis in my spine and pelvis. After a PET scan it was also shown to be in my liver. Once it has moved through the body and metastisized you are Stage IV automatically.

So that is why I have another diagnosis. I am currently being treated for the bone mets and thankfully the liver tumor was cut out and my current treatment is working on the spine/pelvis.

Kite - your hair is coming in nicely! You look great!

Jbockland - your hair is looking great, like you decided to get a real short haircut for summer.  :-) No one would know you ever had chemo! Your hair color looks great on you!

lespring -  You have a beautiful smile and look great topless! You are so brave! This whole ordeal has shown me that I'm very vain. I've had to come out of my comfort zone many times.

I'm now 8.5 months PFC and my hair is much longer than it appears. It was a little "wild" recently when I went to the beach and the wind was blowing so I haven't learned how to deal with that. If my bangs would lay straight and flat they would be touching the top of my eye. I'm hoping to make it to the first of 2015 without cutting it - I'm not sure if I'll manage to, but it would be very interesting to see how it looks. I'm also planning to not color it or use a blow dryer. I had been wanting a new hair style for years and thanks to cancer I've gotten several to choose from! :-)

deborahanne, omg, that is going to be my hair exactly! I had curly hair before but now it's coming in mostly gray with darker on the top and back just like yours. Yes windy days and curly hair have never been friends lol! I hated windy days because my hair always looked a mess. My hair is not long enough to blow around yet so it's nice not having to worry about it or styling it. I'm kind io loving the freedom. Your hair is beautiful. Thanks for posting the update. That's definitely going to be me. The "curly girl handbook" is the bible for taking care of curly hair. Check it out, those of you that have or are getting curly hair.

and jbokland, your hair color is amazing. Wish mine was white like yours

And I just remembered this picture of me at the end of the run to remember 9/11 race on governors island in nyc 3 yrs ago. It was so windy there, and this is curly hair on a windy day, medusa like...lol and I put a current picture next to it. No hair blowing, much neater. I think I like it better this way.

OMG I want those curls!!! I have the feeling I'm going to end up stick straight like before. I love the color you ladies are getting. The gray with the darker in back looks like something people are paying money for now! I will probably just end up salt and pepper.

Years ago I said if I was going to go gray, I wanted it to be in a dramatic way, like actress Della Reese who had that streak of white (Ok, I realize that may have been intentional. Winking) It may be that chemo was the way to my dramatic hair. LOL Who knows. Watch me end up with mousy, crappy hair. LOL

Wow Kite, you've been thru so much. It sounds like things are working for you now. :)  Having the surgery to remove the

liver cancer is amazing. I will hold you in my prayers. (my list is growing as I communicate with more and more women)..  It is a very

scary journey but at least we are all able to meet and share our stories with some awesome women!

Deborah-your hair is coming in so cute..

Kite - You look great - a little eye makeup and earrings and you will make heads turn!

Jbockland - short hair is great on you!

lespring -  You are pulling off the bald look Smile although treatment has been done for a little over a year, I still barely have to shave my legs and really its only near my knees .. and my underarms are still almost hairfree.. that is a blessing!

LizA17 - my heart goes out to you! I found this video that clearly shows the frustration you may be going through. She didn't receive Taxotere but another drug that caused her hair to not all come back.

    http://news.cancerconnect.com/danielle-tindle-copi...

I think the woman sharing her story looks great in a scarf. I chose to wear scarves instead of a wig when I lost my hair and I found this website very helpful for finding attractive styles. Interestingly, the women of this website have hair but they chose to wear scarves. They have made head covering beautiful!

Here I am on Christmas Day 1013 - I had a few strands of hair that didn't fall our during chemo that are showing in the front. Those all fell out in January when my new hair came in. But having some hair showing while I was on chemo really helped me feel better about my hair loss. I also wore a soft cotton cap under my scarves to add height, comfort, and to help keep the scarf on. And since it was wintertime, I wore crocheted hats over my soft cap for variety.

lexie2002 - Currently I'm using Trader Joe's Nourish Spa Shampoo, Dove hair therapy conditioner (I had that before chemo and am just trying to use it up). After washing and conditioning I use a small amount (2 tsps?) of Giovanni Magnetic Attraction Styling Gel. Then I use a large toothed comb through my hair and I avoid touching my hair until it is dry. Then I use my fingers to reposition it on top. I add a little water and or gel if needed. On the day after this treatment, I just add a little water to my hair to get it back into the style I like. I wash my hair every over day.

Thanks everyone. I'm cancer free and that means alot. I just wish that someone would pre-warn you that permanent hair loss is possible. Not often but does happen instead of saying "don't worry about losing your hair, it " will" come back. I am really happy for everyone else tho and you all look beautiful. I'm adjusting to life in a wig and like I said, so thankful to be cancer free.

Today I'm 4 weeks PFC and have some darker hair starting to show along with the white stuff.  Following the advice of some here I just bought a Nioxin shampoo "kit" which includes shampoo, (step 2) Scalp therapy, and (step 3) Scalp Treatment (you leave in the treatment).  Has anyone tried this combo, and if so, what kind of results did you have.  Thanks!

I used the #1 only.  My hair is coming in very nicely but honestly don't know if its due to the Nioxin or not!

Thought I'd chime in too.  I used cold caps so I still have hair and will move to nioxin  products once hair shedding ends to encourage new growth.  My sister, who  was losing significant amounts of hair for non chemo reasons, has had great success with the products.  I'm a believer.  I'm currently taking biotin and biosil to encourage growth.

Kite I will let you know. I don't' know if I should bother until my Taxol is finished (Sept 5 last one). I put it on my eyebrows too since they are thinning out as well. Should I wait to use both until I am out of Chemo treatment?

HomeMom- I personally would wait because I think it gives you a starting point. Maybe keep trying it on your brows... I'm so glad you are almost finished! Keep me posted!

HomeMom - I used Latisse and put it on my brows and eyelashes every day from the time I started chemo.  MO and ophthalmologist said to try it, but I didn't take anything by mouth when I was in active treatment.  Hair got sparse in lashes & brows but I never lost all of it & didn't have to use any make up on my brows to hide the thinning.  Started Biotin only PFC.

I'm using latisse on lashes and brows. My brows started coming in about day 3 of the latisse. I *think* I see a difference in my lashes on day 10.

Lorbgoo,  Yes, I'd love to know if that was your color before.  Its very close to my natural color before, but I have mostly whitish stuff with a little darker hair peeking through at 4 weeks PFC. Your hair looks great!  Do you go without hat or wig at this point?
