lorbgoo, yes you look great for 3 months. It's coming in beautiful with great color

thanks. It was dark brown before but I had to color it because of greys. Now I am so salt and pepper that I won't go without a wig unless I color is. Not sure how long I have to wait to color it. I still think it's to short for me to go without a wig. I had really long hair before

I found it quite liberating to be without any head covering. I never wore a wig and only wore a scarf a handful of times before I got too frustrated with my sweating head. I'm actually going to miss how quick it is to shower and get out the door!!!

oh lorbgoo, you should definitely go without a wig. Your hair looks great, so even with good scalp coverage. I'm wearing great earrings now that really show up with short hair and you'd look awesome just the way you are. I actually loved my scarves and had so many different ones, but then I was wearing them in the winter so didn't have to worry about being too hot. Really nobody would even think twice about your hair now, it just looks like a short cut and youd look pretty and young and hip and edgy!

Lorbgoo, Your hair definitely looks more pepper than salt to me. I hear you on whether or not to wear a head covering when your hair starts to grow back. I think you'd look terrific too without anything. But everyone has a different comfort level. That's what it all boils down to. We all want to feel good about ourselves when we walk out the door. Sometimes I don't mind going out with just a cute beanie on (always to the gym where my fellow gym rats have known me for many months with a cotton skullcap), but for "formal" occasions when I want to look like my old self, I feel best in my wig.0 -
my normally bone-straight hair has now developed some little curls on the ends. It's funny because it's inconsistent and random which hair is curling. Crazy!

It is absolutely true that what works for me, and what I am comfortable with is not necessarily what my neighbor, or breast cancer sister is comfortable with. I have only met a few women who are comfortable going out without any headwear. Maybe I'm just used to the stares our family always gets anyway that it just doesn't bother me. Though, I have been known to turn around and stare back at someone. ;-)

noonrider you look great with or without hair. Not everyone has a great shaped head. Sadly I did not. I was hoping, so hoping I could pull of the Sinead O'Conner look but sadly no go for me. I looked more like Gollum with make up and brown ey es when I went topless. But I rocked the scarf look.

yes, everyone accepts the hair loss in their own way and there is no right or wrong way to go about it. If you want to cover with wigs cool scarves or hats that's fine. If you want to go bare that's fine to and no one should make you feel bad about your looks. but there is that transition point when deciding to go topless for so many of us that is hard. Small steps helped me and also positive comments from others as I didn't have a good self concept if what I looked like..was it as bad or obvious as I thought? and I finally realized the answer was no. And then..who cares? I'm kind of loving my short cropped white curly hair. I'm having fun with big interesting earrings, like you lago. And weird to say I'm feeling more "beautiful" this way than with all that hair before. Any time I look at a picture of one of us covered, bald or inbetween,, all I see is strength, courage, grace and beauty

Lisaj514 …yes…what you said…somehow I am more comfortable with myself, I feel better about the way I look, than I did before I had cancer. I can't even begin to understand it. I'm more willing to have pictures taken of myself. But I have to say, I hated my hair. Really, truly hated it. I keep praying I get better hair this time. Better texture, more of it, maybe even some curl or wave. I know this is unrealistic, but its always in the back of my mind. I don't know how many times per day I look in the mirror, checking the growth, checking the top of my head where its been thin for 25 years. So for me, this loss of my hair is something of a rebirth. A chance at a start of something new. In the end I may be disappointed but for now I'm hanging onto it.

For those of you who are PFC down the road a ways - how long did you take Biotin? I'm thinking maybe I should stop once I finish Herceptin.

MinusTwo - I take Biotin every day and don't plan on stopping ..and I am more than a year out of treatment.

Noonrider, I'm wishing you the hair of your dreams!
A friend of mine is only 2 months PFC and has enough hair to be comfortable without any head covering! She had ACT, plus Carbo. Her hair growth is remarkable and the only thing she did was to shave her head about two weeks after chemo. She's 45 and has thick dark hair. When she shaved, she had the white fuzz stuff, and after she soon got black stubble, or her former hair! Anyone else shave their head and get these results?

MinusTwo I was taking biotin long before I was diagnosed. It's also good for your nails. My dermo was pleased to see I was taking it. I saw her for my nail issues.

lespring - I can relate. I actually used to have great hair. It was one of my best features. Something happened between the summer of 09' and the winter of 09'. In the summer here in Florida, my hair tends to frizz and feel fuller. Then I go to "winter" and there is less humidity so it behaves and feels smoother. That year I could feel the shape of my head and thought "did my hair thin out?" Ever since then it has been lifeless, dull and my part was a wider then it should be. I'm hoping I get my old hair back, maybe it was the bc!

I started biotin after chemo about 2 months. Onc instructed every other day.
I am 6 Pfc still on H and just starting arimedex.
I have a full head of white hair now but still shorter up front. The rest has grown in fullness and length . It is beginning to curl at the nape of my neck.
I am working on liking the lighter hair, everyone else does, I like the shorter, I am so use to my dark brown and longer length.

MomMom the guy at the wig shop told me that the key is to shave your head once the white fuzzies start to get rid of hair with chemicals in it or it comes out all wirey. I haven't seen anyone in here say they did that.
I have one more DD Taxol left and I see some small fuzzies starting.

I shaved my head at the 14 day PFC mark to get rid of stubble that didn't fall out with that treatment. I now have soft white fuzzy stuff all over my head. I'm tempted to shave it, but at the same time I hate to do it!

Me too! I am afraid to shave of my white fuzz. Any hair is better than no hair!

That's the way I feel... I have the stubbies and the ever so small fuzzies. I'm not shaving!

Wow really?!! That's awesome! Where is that office? I am going to call my MO and see if she is ok with it since you don't see multiple docs. That was her only issue, she wants consistancy.

congrats!!!!!
On first hair stubble I finished 2/13 on 3/1 I buzzed hair to 1/8 -1/4 inch.
The hairs I never lost were longer and it had grown some so I wanted to make it even and get rid of some chemo hair. I couldn't bring myself to shave it though. I was happy to see even stubble and I started going topless pretty much all the time. Have not buzzed or cut it yet again.
I have a head filled of fine white/ platinum hair. I can grab a handful. Just want it to grow in the front longer.
Happy hair growing

Congrats Jbokland!!!! What a milestone! Celebrate!!!
I just asked my friend who can easily go without cover what made her shave it so soon after chemo. She said a friend told her to do it and once she did it grew like crazy! Wish I had the nerve to do it too!

I don't know why it would grow like crazy just by shaving off the growth. Maybe it just looked that way since she started with a clean slate?

I shaved my head as soon as the white fuzz came in and I swear mine has grown in faster since, and it's no longer fuzz, it's my regular texture and color. I actually continue to shave it down every few weeks since I still have a lot less on top and I want it to grow in evenly. I'm starting to notice it filling in just a smidge on top. I'll try and post some pics if I can.
Jules - any new growth on top for you?

I think I'm seeing some tiny fuzz in between the stubbies. I'm torn since I didn't shave the first time.
