    Nancy & Jbokand -

Thank you for those great compliments.  You both look great yourselves!  I think I'll give it another month before I shed this wig.  I just want it to get a little longer!

    Hugs

Yeah Bosum - we missed you.  Red should be fun.  I'm going through the same contortions - keep the wigs just in case I need them again, or...

    Marie that is funnyyyy!

Bosum I have curls too and my hair is thick. Can't wait to have 6 inches. Mine is only 1 1/2 inch

Do you ever straighten your hair? I know I will like curls but with it curling up it will look shorter for longer. I'm not cutting mine at all. I do want it to look like there is some step to my hair but there doesn't.

Bosum - Personal doesn't bother me anymore so I'm not upset.  Original BMX for DCIS had clear margins & two clear sentinel nodes on both sides so after reconstruction I went on my merry way & worked at putting it behind me.  No mammos but I had a 'just because' MRI that showed all clear in October 2012.  In February 2013 I noticed a lump like 1/2 a golf ball size two weeks before I had my 2 year "all clear" MO appointment.  The lump was way up under my collar bone & turned out be lymphs & to be IDC and HER2+.  Still not sure if it was a recurrence or mets, but the former sounds more positive.  I think the answer has to be 'shit happens'.  I also think while we may be watched more closely, we must ALL be proactive and call & push for answers if we think there's a problem.

Hello All! Really have been enjoying all of the hair growth photos. My husband started taking weekly photos of my growth when it started during my Taxol treatments. About half way through I started seeing growth. Here are just a few pics. The first is as of last Sunday, which was 8 weeks PFC. The second is at my 8th week of 12 Taxol treatments. It is starting to get wavy. I always had a medium brown color with a little gray and I got some hightlights, so this is a new color for me! I also had stick straight hair all of my life. Kind of enjoying a little wave! I have started going topless and loving it!

    Wampus -

Your hair looks great! You started taxol the same day as I did.  I posted a picture of me on here.  I don't have as much growth as you!!!  I'm hoping for a miracle in 2 1/2 weeks so when I go to a family party I can go topless! LOL  I'm not coloring my hair anymore either.  I can see I will be salt and pepper and I think I'll like it.  ThumbsUp

Marie - I found your photo a few posts back and your hair is coming nicely too. I think you will be great to go topless, especially with your family! Yes, the salt and pepper look is new for me too. I really don't want to start coloring my entire head, as I used to just get highlights twice a year. So for now I will be going with the natural color. Many people say in about a year it may return to your normal color. Time will tell!

wampuscat, that is a lot of hair for 8 weeks PFC.  Looking great!

On the subject of wigs.  I thought I was the only one.  I am  3.5 years PFC and I just cannot bring myself to either donate or throw away my wig.  I have no problem with getting rid of stuff.  The funny thing is that my hair is now wavy, so the wig does not look like my hair anymore.

For those of you letting your hair grow.  Conditioner is very important.   My hair strands are 14-16 inches long and for the first couple years the ends looked dry when compared to the new growth.  Double conditioning made a big difference.  I shampoo and condition,  I gently towel my hair to remove excess water, then I apply Leave-in Conditioner to the ends --right now I am using Melaleuca Omega-3 Curl Vitalizer -- comb with a wide tooth comb to remove tangles.  I shape the curls with my hands and just let air dry.

islandmom  I'm 4+ years NED and I still have my wig in a shoe box… and I only wore my wig 2X. Also I wear my hair short not so it wouldn't even be right. It was also too big. But I am not giving it away till I reach 5 years NED. Granted every so often I look in the box expecting to find a pair of shoes and scare the shit out of myself. It looks like a dead animal at first glance.

I am 4 months PFC.  Hair is becoming thicker but my darn bangs won't grow.  I believe I will be hitting the Q-tip phase soon.

    Hey everyone,

I posted this on a different thread but I thought I would try this one as well.  Everyone has such great pictures!  I will have my last round of chemo next week and like everyone else, I am hoping my hair starts growing back immediately.  I was wondering what the best shampoo for regrowing hair would be.  I have been doing some research and found that Nioxin has changed their formula and isn't as effective.  I was wondering what worked best for all of you.  Thanks!

Meetoo....keep you expectations in perspective.  Nioxin and other shampoos/treatments are designed to create the best environment for the hair to regrow...as opposed to actually causing hair growth.  I used the scalp treatment and my hair grew in nicely (so far) but I honestly have no way to know if it would have done the same without the $25.00 bottle!

I'm curious, do you guys trim up your sideburns, nape and behind your ears when growing your hair out from chemo? Or do you leave it? I just had mine trimmed, but now I'm wondering if I should have kept it? I want my long hair back asap.

    Alludp,

I just had my hair trimmed.  Mine was a mix of longer wisps of 'old' hair that didn't fall out and short thicker 'new' hair.  It got messy looking.  My hairdresser trimmed it evenly all over and made it look more like a haircut not so much chemo hair.  I did hesitate to cut any off, but it does look better.

My youngest son visited me over the weekend and our hair is about the same length!

My hair seems to be growing slower than some of you.  Must be the Herceptin.

everyone's hair growth looks great. I know what you mean about bangs not growing in  fast enough. Mine are really short and it does still look like chemo hair growning back. My hair is starting to flip up and I look like I have bed head.

    Dee and Everyone,

Your hair looks great!  My husband and I trimmed off the old wispy hair.  It does look a lot better without it.  I think I'll take a picture each week to see the difference.

jbokland thanks for the advice!  I just want to start looking normal again, I do understand that it could take a while to have a full head of hair.  I am just looking for something, I guess it will make me feel better if I am using the shampoo.

yes feeling some sense of control helps, whether it's using a shampoo or something else. It's what we need after all that has been done to us. Actually I used coconut oil mixed with castor oil and rubbed it on my head. (Google it, supposed to help hair grow!lol). Hair still grew slow but maybe it would have been even slower. I think some people just grow back fast, some slow, some curly, gray, dark, thick, thin, Mohawks, cowlicks etc.

lorbgoo, your hair looks amazing! Thick, nice color, nice waves. Actually bed head is the new look, tossled etc so your right there. I wouldn't change a thing to it now.

I love seeing everyone's progress and nice that we can show others just starting out. It helped me so much seeing others through their hair stages.

Remember though, we are not our hair. We are beautiful inside and out. Actually I think inner beauty really shines through at the "short" stage

What about eyebrows and eyelashes?   I have less of those now than while I was on chemo!

How long until you noticed regrowth??

I can wear a nice head covering to cover my bald head, - but my eyes are tearing from lack of protection from lashes, and my attempts to use makeup for brows are not working!

nycg, yes! I lost my eyelashes and brows officially 4 wks pfc. I drew on brows, wore eyeliner and also wore my glasses instead of contacts to protect my eyes. My glasses kind of hid the lack of eyelashes and gave some definition to my "blank" face. I kept saying at this stage that I looked like an alien. Joan lunden recently spoke on today show and said she felt like someone erased her face when she lost eyebrows and lashes, yes, definitely! Keep trying with the eyebrow pencil or brush. When mine started coming in but we're thin and light I went to sephora and a girl there tried some products on me and that helped. I got an Anastasia product, a brow "pomade". It's great and lasts all day and won't come off if you rub your eyes. Mine officially all fell out about 4-5 wks pfc and about 2-3 wks after stated to come I  again. Many have had good luck with latisse but I have light blue eyes and my dermatologist said that it could turn light eyes dark. It's a difficult stage, you are done with chemo but look worse due to still no hair and then the brows and lashes pull a disappearing act. Hang in there. You've been through the hardest part on your body. Now it's the appearance that needs to catch up

    Eyelashes and brows

I to this day still wear the Anastasia Brow Duo powder. It stays until you wash it off… and I mean with soap not just water. Never lost them all but they did appear to fall out again at 5 weeks PFC. It was really the new hair pushing the old dead ones out.

With the AI they thinned again though. I do brush on Minoxidil on my eyebrows and it seems to help.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend!

I also lost them after my final chemo  about 2 weeks later. It like they were fine, took a shower and half were gone and within next few days lost 95 % of eyebrows a few strays stayed and 100% of lashes. Then when they came back, so did some facial hair . I had previously lasered my top lip and a few stray chin hairs and had gotten great results. Well they came back plus more. My eyebrows came back with hair all around, I use to just pluck a few stray hairs and I was done. So I got my lighted magnifying mirror and I plucked them all and they seem to have calmed down, not growing back very fast. I am going to ask my MO if ok to laser.

I have a good head of thick hair(a bit thinner in front), but has been growing at a snail pace in length if at all. I finish Herceptin at the end of November and can't wait to see if it starts growing.  I am enjoying short but would like it long enougn so that it doesn't stick straight up and I can stop gelling it down. I think I have about 2-3 inches of hair, it varies around head  and the back and sides seems to want to get a bit of a wave in it,  but the top sticks straight up. My kids love to play with it. Oh and what has grown remains white for the most part, there are a few darker hairs along the top coming in.

just had my third cut since my regrowth.  ( about 7 months since first sprouts appeared).   It's not length that I am trimming but volume.   I have to texture the shit out of it to deQ-Tip the look.
