    Hello Ladies,

I had my first post chemo hair trim today.  Not much to cut but she tidied it up and made it all even.  She put some kind of goo on and tried to make it spike up but it is a little too short.  I am going without my wig more often.

As you can see it is very white and no curls yet but some wave.  By the way, I am 1 week shy of 4 months since last Taxol.

    That's my Dad's pointy nose!

Today marks 3 months PFC for me! I had female pattern baldness before chemo, with very little hair on top. At two weeks PFC I started using Hair Surge Shampoo and Hair Solace conditioner (both available on Amazon) in addition to women's Rogaine twice per day. Who knows if that's what helped my hair come in so much better, but whatever it is, I'm liking it!!!! Oh, and my hair was dark brown before chemo. I can't wait until its long enough that it stops growing to a point on top of my head! But, I will NOT complain!

Dee your hair looks great! Very stylish!

Noonrider - your children are precious!  Thanks for sharing!  It looks like your hair is growing in well. I had mine shaved today.  Felt pretty bad ass like I was in the military or something! Going from long to buzzed is quite a transition!  My head is cold and small! Who knew? ! Lol everyone marveled at how well I could pull off this buzzed look. Not so sure about a slick bald look. Would've been better in the summer months! I go for blood work tomorrow so that should be interesting. Quite fatigued this week but feeling like I'm on an upswing possibly!  Might as well start walking every day cause I doubt the energy level is going to improve on its own. Hope everyone has a great Friday!

    Thank you ladies.

This is me in April. (my 18 yo daughter's prom) I started chemo in May. My hair was so thin and mousy in front.

    image

Yurmani, it is a big step, that first shave! I did it when I knew it would be a couple days before I had to leave the house. But on day two I had already forgotten, saw my neighbor outside and went to talk to her. Half way up her driveway, when she had already noticed me I remembered. OMG!!! I wanted to run back to my house! It only took me a couple weeks to get used to it. Four weeks later I was a cue ball. This picture was then the middle of July, right before my last round. My eyebrows had *just* fallen out.

    image

By the time I was bald it never bothered me. I would always forget I didn't have hair! I'm used to people staring at our family anyway, and I'm sure we looked even more …umm…interesting with a baldheaded woman leading the way! LOL

Lisa, thank you. I don't know that I'm any more special than the next person. We were just made aware of a need and acted on it. We are absolutely the blessed ones to watch the changes in our kids, especially those we adopted from Serbia.

I started out with hair surge and no conditioner. I switched to the Nioxin I had in my cabinet along with the "scalp therapy" conditioner and the serum you put on after your shower. I was thin too before my dx, mostly in the front but it seemed to lose body all over my head the last couple of years. I'm wondering if I should go the rogaine route too.  I see dark hair coming in sporadically, and white everywhere else so it is hard to tell if hair is growing in thick enough.

Lorbgoo - Your hair looks great!  My chemo ended Aug 25th and hoping I can go to a family party on Nov 8th without the wig.  You are giving me hope!  Going forward, I do not plan on coloring my hair anymore.  It's coming in salt and pepper.  Plus, I was getting a little tired of running to the hair salon coloring the roots!  My plan is to keep it very short.

My eyebrows have thinned, but it seems like they are growing in because, I have to pluck them again! LOL  The eyebrow pencil is filling in nicely.

Eyelashes:  I didn't think I lost them until a few weeks ago, I was putting on mascara and it was going all over the place. I had tiny little lashes on half of the lid!  The ends were long lashes - ugh  My husband said they are growing.  Thank God!  I want to put mascara on in 3 weeks for this family party.

    Have a great weekend all!

I used Latisse and my eyelashes grew very long. I've backed off a bit because my eyelids were getting a little dark...using it twice a week now.

Oh you are beautiful, no matter what length your hair! I love it! I, too am loving the short hair. Get out of the shower and GO! LOL Mine is just long enough to start looking a tiny bit messy after sleeping on it. But I can dab some water, smooth it down and done. Love it!

    How beautiful you all are!

I have a question.  I finished taxol on Aug 25th.  Does anyone know how long it takes to grow so I can stop wearing this wig.  I know I could stop wearing it anytime, but I live in a condo building and didn't tell anyone but my closest neighbor.  So I can't wait until it looks like a normal very short haircut.  I know this sounds like a ridiculous question.

Can you post a pic of how you look now?  Everyone's hair growth is different...is it coming in evenly?

    Marie,

The pictures I posted are almost 4 months since last Taxol.  I went to a meeting yesterday where some of the women new me and some didn't.  Only one person said anything to me.  She asked if I cut my hair that short or if it was growing in.  I said it is growing in and I don't plan to leave it that short.  I had to stand up in front of them all and talk and I forgot about my lack of hair.

Does anyone know where I can donate my gently used hats and scarves?  I am willing to mail them.

Marie:  I see you're on Herceptin.  Hair usually grows slower as long as those infusions continue, but it does grow.  I finished chemo December 2013 and just finished Herceptin in September, and have been taking Biotin all year.  My hair is only 3" long but VERY thick all over and it's wavy.  I've never had short hair but I'm thinking of keeping it short.  Everyone looks so cute.

    Dee,

You have to hear this funny thing:  I live in a high rise.  I walked out of my apartment and got on the elevator and forgot to put my wig on!! LOL  I was pushing all the elevator buttons for it to stop so I could get off and go back up to my apartment to put the darn wig on!!!!! I was panicking that I don't see anyone.  Thankfully I didn't!!! LOL  Too funny.

Anyway, here is a picture of what I look like now.

Marie - you look lovely...I know its hard to first go out without the wig or a scarf but once you do it and see peoples reactions or even lack of a reaction, an amazing sense of freedom embraces you.. That said, being in NJ your head might be cold ..

    Marie,

I know you think I'm blowing a little empathic smoke, but the first thing I see is that radiant smile!  I know YOU are self conscious of your hair, but I think you look great.  I'm not sure of your reasoning for secrecy from your neighbors, but I would not let it dictate how you feel about yourself and your comfort level.  As a wise woman once told me "fuck'em....they don't pay your bills!
