I am now 3 1/2 months PFC. My hair is like a rug on my head it is so thick! I am NOT complaining. Ever. But the length itself is growing very very slowly. I will update with a pic soon. Just had another surgery this week so my camera skilz are a bit touchy. LOL

Hi noonrider.......I'm just about in the same time frame as you. And thats how i describe my hair.....like a "super thick curly shag rug". I even have trouble getting it wet to wash it. I can't control it, so i just keep weating this dang wig. I'm still as happy as a clam to have hair. I just want my old hair back.

My hair is STICK straight. I did not get blessed with chemo curl. LOL Instead my hair is growing into a faux hawk . Its long enough now that people think I did this on purpose. I have a funeral to attend on Monday and realized I actually need to get my neck trimmed because its all shaggy. Baby steps!

November 5th will be one year PFC.

I've had my hair cut and colored twice.

This is how my hair looked a few weeks ago before the cut. Totally out of control.

    image

This is after the cut and color.

    image

Before treatment my hair was very long, thick and curly/wavy.

It seems to be growing back the same way.

    Edited for typos.

I am about 6 weeks out from my last chemo and I have the white chick fuzz.  Please tell me that my hair is not going to stay white.  How long does the fuzz stage last?

Yep, I had the same! Let me find the pic… Ok, this is 6 weeks PFC, and the second is 3 months. My hair was black before chemo.

I'm getting the lip hair too. I also see hair coming in further down my forehead then I had. When I was a kid it was there - long "baby hairs".  They dark hair is coming in and I'm 2 months PFC. Love having my eye brows (even if I now have to pluck)  I even used mascara this morning!

I recognize some of you from the chemo forum. Just found this forum this afternoon. I finished chemo Sep 18. Hair is finally past the porcupine prickly stage and getting a little softer. But I start Arimidex next week. Anyone else here on Arimidex, and what effect did it have on your hair growing back?

My hair never returned following chemo.  While the sides and back is now shoulder length it is extremely thin.  My top, crown area is very very very thin.  My scalp is completely visible and I first wore a full wig to cover my bald head.  I am now wearing a topper piece that attaches to the top thin hair and blends into my own hair along the sides and back.  I finished chemo on 9/6/12 and began anastrozole on 10/1/12.  My hair never had a chance.  And I have since learned that taxotere can cause you to permanently lose your hair.  Coupled with anastrozole hair thinning effects, my hair never had a chance.   While my topper piece does the job and looks like my own hair, I hope at the end of my 5 years of anastrozole I will get my hair back.  But I'm not holding my breath.

I'm sorry sherry. I had Taxotere and my hair is growing back thick. I am 5 1/2 months PFC and it's about 2 inches. I hope your hair comes back.

    Hi Ladies,

Hoping you can answer my question.  I had significant thinning of my hair after my first treatment and just finally shaved my head.  I just now finished my 5th treatment (one more to go the day before Thanksgiving ☺). Throughout the process I never fully was bald.  I did loss some smaller hairs after I shaved the first time but never all of it.  In the meantime it appears that peach fuzz is growing.  I can see spots where the hair isn't growing but everywhere else there is hair.  I had dark brown hair with high and low lights here and there that hid the grays I was getting as I get older.  Fyi..I am 39.

So do I let this peach fuzz go and just continue to let my hair keeping going or do I shave it all again right before or after my last treatment?  It's not very long but enough that my daughters like rubbing my head and say it's so fuzzy..lol.  Hoping as it grows back I see more brown again.  I still see brown in it now but just the longer hairs appear to be more white. Any advice or recommendations is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

oceanbreeze I never lost all of mine either.   I probably only had a few hundred hairs that hung in there.  Last week I went ahead and shaved mine very short so that it would be all one length.  I can't wait for it to really start growing.

I am HER2+ and Herceptin slows down hair growth for the year following chemo while you're receiving that.  I didn't shave after chemo since I wanted every possible bit of growth I could get.  But really, it's a choice you have to make based on how long before you're ready to appear commando, whether you have a wig that you're really tired of wearing, etc.  I was mostly grey and it's come back in mostly brownish - however everyone has warned me that the growth for the first year after chemo is not what you'll end up with, so it's hard to predict.  Good luck with your last treatment.

Oceanbreeze - I started losing my hair after my first treatment of AC.  I cut it short but never shaved.  I lost almost all of it but there were still a few stragly hairs around the edges.  When I started taxotere, the peach fuzz started growing.  It never stopped.  Three weeks after my last taxotere treatment, I had a thin cover of white hair that was at least 1/2 inch long.

I'm 13 weeks PFC and my hair is about a half inch now, starting to fill in better too. I was gray before chemo, but I dyed it every month since I can remember to keep the gray out! Now it's coming in about 70% gray - does anyone know of an all natural dye that's safe to use? Henna, maybe?? I'd like to ditch the wig and go public at work, but I need to dye it first. This is a new job and they have only ever seen me with a wig - this should be interesting. :)

    Thanks for listening!

    Hey ladies,

I'm late to the party, but I suppose better late than never?  I will finally be finished chemo on November 12th, hooray!!!  I was/am on Abraxane for 6 months, 3 on and 1 off.  About one month after my first cycle of chemo, my hair started falling out.  Since then my maintenance has been good old fashion shaving cream and a razor.  The peach fuzz drives me crazy!  I didn't totally lose all of my hair, I still have hair but it's all very random with bald spots.  When it does grow it's very light almost blonde on top with dark hair on the sides.  I also did not lose my eyebrows or eyelashes, but they thinned out.  I'm sure many of you have felt, I can't wait to finally be done chemo just so my hair can start growing back.  With that said, how long do you think until I can finally go hat-less?  I'm thinking it will be about 2-3 months after chemo?  Another question, do you recommend any topical hair products to use to help speed up the process?  Or should I just let my hair do it's thing, see how it starts growing back, and maybe wait to see if I should use something?  My next treatment plan will be Tamoxifen until whenever my tumors start to show any kind of change or growth.  I've seen that a side effect of Tamoxifen is hair thinning?  I'm hoping not but only time will tell.  Thanks for sharing!

    LizA17,

Sorry to hear we have the common lack of hair problem.   Do you wear wigs? Toppers?   What's your mode of "normal"?  For me the hair that grew in came an ugly grey/white color.  I had been coloring for years.  I covered the fuzziness originally with a wig in my previous hair color.  As hair grew out I have been coloring it a medium brown and have a wig topper piece that covers my bald scalp and blends into my brown colored hair.  Its a human hair piece so I've also colored it to match my colored hair so it blends well and I don't believe anyone can tell it is not my hair.  I've been wearing this piece for a year now and its getting worn out so I'm currently looking for a new topper.   I purchase from voguewigs.com and am waiting for the black Friday/cyber Monday reduced sale prices to order new piece.

beckystrong - welcome! I am 60 days PFC and there is no way I would go topless. I think everyone is different in what they are comfortable with and how fast their hair grows.  I use Nioxin shampoo /conditioner and the serum scalp therapy you spray on after your shower.  Sometimes I use Hair Surge a shampoo with high concentration of cafene.  I think I am going to have to wear a wig until at least the first of the year. I have an appt with my MO tomorrow morning and coloring my hair will be one of them.

Right now my hair is filling in and is salt and pepper along with being not thick enough to really cover my scalp it is also baby fine.

Very frustrated...almost four months PFC and I'm still wearing hats and scarves.  My hair seems to be filling in, but I don't have any hair longer than an inch.  The hair in back is longer, while the top is still only about half an inch long.  On a positive note, I'm going without my hat at home...something I never did when I was completely bald.  The hair loss part of my chemo treatment is still so distressing.  To add insult to injury, my once blonde locks are growing in ashy brown, several shades darker than it was pre chemo.  Strange enough, ALL my hair is darker...  I'm not sure if I want to start coloring my hair, or just get used to the new color.  Is there any hope the length will start coming back?  Anyone else end up with darker hair?

Swissmiss, my hair came back slowly as well, and being 17 months PFC my hair is maybe 6" long. It started coming in completely white and gradually turned salt/pepper (my favourite!) and gradually got more and more colour- it is now very ashy blonde with whisps of gray. I have decided not to colour it anymore and accept my new colour. My hair is much healthier now and I'm liking it even though it's growing so slowly. I think I'm going to keep it short-I may not have a choice! lol

Here is a pic of me at 4 months PFC.

sherryh16..I don't go anywhere without a wig except home. I don't think I'm ever going to have enough hair to do without a wig. Sad..but true.

I was "To the skin" bald. NOTHING. I had four rounds of chemo. My 3rd round I had these tiny chicken hairs that I shaved off around day 20 because I knew they would fall out with my last treatment anyway. Then my last treatment I shaved again around the 3 week mark. So, my hair didn't really start growing until 4 weeks out. At 6 weeks I had the chicken fuzz I posted above. Now I'm 16 weeks out from chemo and my hair is about 1 1/2 inches long. Most people think I did it on purpose and that its just a "hip haircut". I'm actually kinda liking this length! I'm not bald, but I don't have to do anything with it yet. Actually, I CAN'T do anything with it! The top is growing into a Faux Hawk and no matter what I use to try forcing it to lay down, its just will not. It is stick straight and stubborn just like my pre chemo hair. LOL

For those of you who did Adraimycin. While I have no personal experience I have seem many others that were on it have slower hair growth in the beginning.
