Lisa ... the gray you is gorgeous and no, you don't look old. Like another commented, your hair looks extremely healthy and oyur face looks so young... you def. rock the gray hair!. The brunette you is beautiful, too, but the short style seems to suite you as well. Thx for sharing ... gives us all hope for gaining some normalcy.

Biotin question .... i've read very mixed reviews/success rates of biotin for hair growth (greater success w/nails). Anyone tried and have experience to share? Is it worth taking it before chemo is over?

thanks to so many of you for the positive comments on my hair and "new" look! It really helps, coming from those that know how it feels. I keep needing the positive reinforcement it seems.

Now I was a slow grower so you all will get there too. I never thought I would. I used biotin towards the end of chemo (mo said it was fine) and still do. It didn't help the speed of regrowth but now it seems nice and soft and I don't loose any hair! And it seems stronger. Don't know if it's from that but it can't hurt. Also supposed to be good for skin and nails. Before BC I would shed like crazy. I occasionally use castor oil mixed with coconut oil a few times a week, if I remember, and massage into scalp, and leave it on for an hour or so (on Weekend or non work day) and then wash it out. It's supposed to help stimulate growth and it keeps my hair so soft and shin

According to my pharmacist - biotin will help you keep new hair growth from shedding but won't add hair - it does seem to help nail strength after chemo - my experience - I only used it for six months - it's just too expensive for no good results IMHO.

I was planning to try biotin, on the suggestion of my dermatologist, but I am afraid that it may encourage hair growth where i dont want it, - like on my face! so in the mean time, my head hair is sparse and thin. =/

re: Biotin - I've taken it since February and do not have hair in places I don't want - like chin. I saw my dermatologist last week and she said Biotin will strengthen hair that's coming up but not cause hair to grow - no adding hair as Sandy said. I also think it's helping my nails. Doc said I could stop when I finish my current supply since after 6 months there won't be much more benefit.

I agree. I think it helps with nails better than hair. My nails are so strong and hard and my hair is only 2 1/2 inches. Ugh

Lorbgoo - but think how strong all those individual hair strands might be!!

Some of my hair is 4 inches now - 1 year PFC - but I continued with Herceptin until October so that's no doubt the reason for the slow growth. I'm going for my first trim on Friday. I've been putting it off to see what would happen. What's happened is that curls are gone, but waves are strong & insist on pushing hair out at very annoying angles. I expect the curls are still there & just pulled out by the weight of the hair. Scary stuff for someone who never had hair shorter than shoulder length.

Bosum - I've been told that all the hair that comes up for a year was damaged in the root system by chemo. What we will finally end up with won't start growing until a year after all the darn poisons are out of our system. I don't know if that also includes hormone treatments since I'm not doing those. Anyway I'm not writing off more changes to come. Can't tell when your chemo ended but maybe there's still hope. And maybe all the new B vitamins will help too.

I just got home from the stylist. I had my reconstruction on Thursday...put on a bulky hoodie over my drains and went and got my damn hair cut. I went super short! After being bald, I decided I can do very short, very well! With this 'new' hair that now has a slight wave and a silvery glow, I thought a super short, slightly edgy hair cut would be best.

I was very concerned about my hair coming back due to the Taxotere.

It was very slow coming in.

Once I finished Herceptin, it started growing like crazy.

jb, YES! Nice. I'm getting my second trim on Friday. My color is just like yours but with tight curls. Looking for something cool and "edgy", if that's possible with these cutie curls, lol

Yea, minus two on your first trim, how exciting! I'm going fri too

I haven't been here in a while! Jbok, your hair looks great, you too moonrider! My hair is coming along. I am about 3 months PFC and it's a little more then a half inch long - a lot of salt and pepper! I have gone topless around my family (Thanksgiving), but at work I wear a wig and rip it off as soon as I get in the car to go home! My MO said to wait until it is an inch long to color.

Jbok and all other pics look amazing!! Smile

I am about 10 weeks pfc and getting discouraged. My hair is still so sparse and soft. It doesn't look like it will ever be real hair! Scared

All of these "hair shares" are encouraging. I am hoping to go topless beginning Christmas! It sure grows in fast on my eyebrows and upper lip whereas I need to go for waxings, but the head is another story. I'll have to post picture soon.

jbokland, I love your short hair! Beautiful. Okay, who grew face fur and what did you do about it? So intently looking for growth on my head (3.5 months PFC) that I just noticed my whole face is covered with fine hair! Yikes!

As for my head, maybe an inch. I wanted to go wigless by Christmas, but it's still way short bah humbug

Bow- I had it too! It very common. Mine was white and fine long hairs. I let it be and it went away but I've heard others waxed. At the same time, my eyebrows came in with a vengeance...it's almost cruel to go from uncle fester to the wolf man

I had the same thing. I also let it go and it eventually went away.

I grew fuzz on my face, kind of along my jaw line, in front of my ears, etc. It was only noticeable when the light caught it just right. I have zero impulse control so I shaved it off. I was very happy that it didn't come back!! LOL

Ok this is not my best angle, but I wanted you to see the color, as well as how thick my hair is!! My hair was BLACK before chemo. This salt and pepper almost looks fake to me because I'm not used to it yet. LOL 5 months PFC next week.
