Sherry. So sorry to hear you are struggling with the thin hair. Have you considered wearing it short? Taking the weight off the hair may help "fluff" the hair and camouflage the scalp you are seeing

imageHello ladies, this is me 4 years after last chemo. I cut my hair only once (5") to make it more even. It went from curly, to wavy to straight.

nikola, it is amazing that your hair became so straight, you have beautiful hair.

It will be four years PFC in March for me. Other than very minor trims and cutting my bangs I have not had a real haircut. I used to have very straight hair and now I have very wavy hair and when it is humid it is frizzy. I think my hair follicles are permanently changed.

Firstly Merry Christmas. Hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday with family and friends. I have a question that I am hoping you can help me with. I am 3 months post last taxol trt. My hair is about 1/2 inch long. My scalp is now covered but it is as straight as an arrow. I have read on this thread that most of you have hair growth that is very curly. I am just wondering if my hair is still too short to be curly or if it will remain straight. Any thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated. If you had curly hair, when did it start to curl? Just curious.

Also when did you start going without a wig and how did you wear it when it is so short?I still feel really awkward as it is soooo short. Again any feedback is welcome. Thanks. Chrissy

Chrissy: I am 5 months PFC and my hair was stick straight pre chemo. It has been stick straight as its come in, but now at about 2 inches it is starting to get a little wave to it. I was going to have my first trim this past Monday but I ended up sick and in the hospital instead. Shooting for next week!

I never wore a wig, just went bald. But it was summer, and just too hot for me to even think about wearing anything besides sunscreen on my head. I posted this picture a few weeks ago but I'll post it again. For weeks my hair has been standing STRAIGHT UP in the middle like a Faux hawk, and I would need to use hair glue for it to lie down. Tonight for the first time out of the shower it is laying down all on its own!! Yay!

    Merry Christmas to all!

Well, I officially went topless yesterday! December 25th was my 4 month anniversary from chemo. Yay!!! I feel free! I know its a bit short, but some people in my building said I have a great haircut! LOL

You all look wonderful. I enjoyed looking at all the pictures you post.

So here I am at 4 months PFC.

Thank you for sharing MarieNJ. Looks really good. I am almost exactly one month behind you. Dec 23rd was my three month mark. I don't know how to post a picture. Could you please give me a bit if direction? Thanks. Chrissy

is one of those 30 day colours an organic colouring product? I am totally white with this regrowth and I am anxious to colour but don't wish to damage any hair follicles. I have also read that one should wait six months but that is another three months for me. Ugh.

Hi everyone, I've been reading but am finally jumping in to join you.

MarieNJ, it's great to see you here! Your hair looks so good.  It must feel terrific to be able to go wig free.:)

I maintained a reasonable amount of hair to sort of cover my head until the 9th of 12 weekly Taxol treatments. Within the three weeks PFC, the rest of my hair, eyelashes, and eyebrows fell out.  The lashes and brows are coming in already. I have a tiny bit of salt and pepper hair coming in., almost to the G.I. Jane level. I also discovered that I have a similar hair line and style as Curious George!  I bought the Nioxin hair care system at the salon I go to but haven't started using it yet.  Anyone here use it? Was it helpful, when did you start? I'm about 2/3 of the way through six weeks of radiation, then will probably be on an AI for 5 years.  Not sure how everything will affect the rate of growth.

Thanks for all the tips and pictures you share here!

jbokland     Even if I wore my hair short, I would still have baldness, scalp showing.  My hair is gone and I don't think it will ever come back.  Its been 2.5 years since last chemo and there is very bald areas with no hair at all.  There just is not enough hair to cover my now bald head.    :-(

Chrissy, I put pictures on like this:

I take a picture with my IPhone - then I email it to myself - then I open the email on my laptop and save it to where I store my pictures - then I go to our thread and click on the icon where it says "insert image" - click on "choose file" - find your picture and click "open". Then your picture should appear on this page.

I'm sure that I am doing this the long way. I'm not that technical as others may be on this thread. So ladies, if there is a shorter way, please share.

Sandy, I can't tell you how happy I am that this wig is now in my draw!! My eyelashes fell out too after chemo and my eyebrows thinned out so much that I had to use pencil. They grew back in about 1 month. I needed an eyebrow wax in early November including a waxing on my upper lip. The hair grows back fast where you don't want it to and it seems to take longer on my head! Can you believe, before chemo, I had very little hair on my legs. Now I have to use my electric shaver! As far as the gray, it's staying. These are my new "highlights". I love the way the salt and pepper looks and I'm keeping it very short.

    Everyone, have a wonderful weekend.

    Marie

Chrissy, my hair is really short but is laying down flat and is covering my scalp and I'm going without my wig over Christmas visiting family. The ladies at the gym said it's looking like "a style of intention" - like a Pixie Cut instead of a bald head growing out.

Merry Christmas. 1 year PFC and my hair is approx 4" long. I had my first trim two weeks ago to clear ourt some of the "waves" at the collar line. I should add the disclaimer that I did Herceptin for a year that wasn't finished until the end of September 2014. I went commando for Christmas and my niece & nephew were excited to see hair. Since I only see them twice a year and the last time I was virtually bald, it was a big event. Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday.

    MinusTwo,

Was wondering if Herceptin slowed down your hair growth. I finished chemo in Oct 7 and hair started growing right after Thanksgiving. I start Herceptin in January so I was just curious.

Izzyfran - the traditional wisdom says Herceptin does slow hair growth & I found that true for myself. But if there's one thing I've learned about this darn journey - each of us are different, each doc is different, each treatment effects each one of us differently, etc. Hope you'll have hair growth sooner rather than later.

Marie and Noon - you both look terrific!

I am 3 months pfc, but dont have anywhere near the thickness that you both have! My hair is darker and thicker in the back, but grey and thinner on top. I hope it fills in as nicely as yours!!

    Hi Another NYCG -

I started to notice the thickness after 3 months PFC. Another month will make a difference! I felt comfortable to put the wig away on Christmas (4 months PFC).

Thank you for that great compliment!

I actually have gone without the wig the last 3 days. I did go to work today and almost got in the car without it. I was in pictures for Christmas and they were posted on faceook. Friends at work who have not seen me without the wig say I look like Jamie Lee Curtis!

Thanks. That's kind of what mine is looking like as well. But you are far braver than I am. Plus I have become so used to wearing a hat I am kind of cold without it. I still wear it in the house as well until I have one of those hot flashes. Lol. My kids tell me my hair looks fine. I guess I should seriously think about just doing it and go without anything. You have given me a little bit of courage. Thanks my friend.
