Puffin, your hair looks great! I love the colour, mine started coming in salt/pepper also but unfortunately didn't stay, 19 months PFC and I'm a very ash blond(?). I found it quite strange how more and more colour came back with time, it's not like the gray fell out and was replaced- it was as if each strand changed colour. I've decided not to dye my hair anymore and so far I'm very happy with my decision- my hair is much healthier. I use to have wavy/curly hair and am so happy it is now straight with a bit of wave! It's funny how your hair changes.

I went without my wig 3 months PFC and it was much shorter than yours, but it was during the summer and I hated my wig and resulting heat

Puffin,  Your hair is growing really fast!!  My hair is beyond crazy.  Here's a pic I took of the top of it this morning.  It's a  party going on in the front (curly-my hair has always been stick straight) and standing straight up in the back of the top.  I've been out a few times topless just to feel it out.  Still look better in my wig for now, but it's a funky look for someone 67:-).  Lol

Dear MomMom. Your hair is fun crazy. Just add a tad of gel and you could soooo pull that off full time. I love it. How long was your hair when it started to curl? Mine ins btwn 1/4 and 1/2 inch and poker straight. Kind of like Puffins at the top.

Puffin, how many months PFC were you when you took these pics? Looks awesome.

    Best to all, Chrissy

hi SandlyLovesL. I have used Nixon for years, way before my chemo. I had a full head of hair but I just had one area near the top that was thinning a bit so went onto this product. When I was bald after my chemo I used a special product from the salon where I bought my wig. It was especially helpful for an irritated scalp (solution) and for hair regrowth. It is called Furterer RF80. The product comes from France. Now that I have a bit of hair I am back to my Nixon again. It is slightly medicated and I just find it soothing. And it is well known with hair stylists/salons to help ppl with thinning hair. Hope this helps. Let me know if you like it. Best. Chrissy

welcome to the hair thread Chrissy and being able to post pics is fun. Well this is curly girls, but yea, I had curly hair before but maybe not this curly and being short it curls more. This is 8 months pfc and I was a very slow grower. Didn't start getting any hair until 6-7 wks. Here's today. Colored it brown prior but I found out what was underneath when it started growing in. Was much whiter early on. Getting darker but I'm keeping it gray and short. Had 2 trims to the sides and none to the top. See how long when I pull it out lol!

Mommom, put some gel in it and let air dry and see what happens. Also condition the heck out of it and leave some in, gently towel dry (don't rub harshly) put in sulfate free gel (non drying and good for curly hair) gently finger into some kind of shape. Or just tons of gel and spike it up girl! You'll never have this chance to experiment like this with a totally new loo

Chrissy,  Yes, I think your hair is still too short to tell if it will be curly or not.  Thanks for the compliment:-).  Yes, my kids agree that my funky hair looks cute, but it's so different from my other hair, I'll have to get used to it.  Honestly, I am grateful to have any hair at all - that's for sure.

Lisa, I think your hair looks awesome, and I can't believe how long it is when you pull the curl out!  Thanks for the tips.  I shall follow them as I haven't a clue what to do with curly hair.  A stylist who works with a lot of women who have lost their hair through chemo told me that my hair growth of curly in the front and straight in the back top of head is common.  Go figure - so strange to me!

Hello ladies, for all of you with your georgeous hair growing back I'm happy for you and jealous. I'm 1 yr PFC and my hair is still very short I'm still wearing a wig because I'm so used to long hair that short hair doesn't look good one me. Plus I'm still angry that chemo took my hair and I'm fully recovered. I took biotin pills and they did nothing for me. Everyone kept telling me my hair was going to grow back fast and with a better grade a better well it does have a better grade, dont think ill need a perm again it's just frustrating dont mean to sound negative

candi07 - are you HER2 positive and did you or are you taking Herceptin? If so, hair will usually grow very slowly. If you go to 'my profile' and fill in your stats, we'll be better able to see what's going on.

Chrissy: Sep 18 was my last chemo, I took these photos a couple days ago so that would be about 3 months after chemo.

candi, I'm also TN. Join us on "Calling all TN's" thread. Lots of info and support there. And some of us here on this hair board are also on the TN thread. Go into your profile and add your stats so it wil come up on the bottom of all of your posts. The hair thing is so frustrating especially when it's not coming back as you had thought or were told it would. What does your MO say about lack of hair regrowth? How was your hair before? If it grew slow before it may be even slower now. My hair growth was slow before and now and thankfull for the curls because it covers up the thinness. And over the past 2-3 months it seems to be thickening up a more for which I am grateful. also take biotin but don't know if it's doing anything.

I'm so happy.......today was the first day I went to work without my wig! January 3rd will be a year since my first chemo treatment. Hopefully, I'm on my way to the finish line

tobyholic - That's awesome! I go without a wig when I am NOT at work. My doc told me not to color until it is about 1-2 inches and I'm guessing it's 1/2 inch and lots of gray! I'm in sales so I am going to wait until I can color it before I brave topless at work. It's a little irritating to wear now that I go topless everywhere else.

I used a wash out color in November and my last chemo was June 27th. My hair was all different colors before I colored it. I feel better with it being one color now. No one even paid any attention to me at work. I was very nervous because I've worn a wig to work since the middle of January. I never wore the wig at home.

Lisa,  Thanks again for the tip not to dry my hair to make it lay down flat instead of sticking up in the top back like a rooster.  Lol.  Away from home in NC for New Year's and feeling more adventuresome about going out without the wig.  Yay!

Happy New Year everyone - may it be a healthy one for all of us!

Mommom: love your hair, it's looking like an "intended style" instead of a "bald head growing out". Wear it with confidence, it looks like a style that you would request from your hairdresser. I wish mine had some of the waves you have in front. What was Lisa's tip? I'm getting a rooster tail and not sure what to do with it.

MomMom, you look so gorgeous! Go out with pride girlfriend-love the colour also! When my hair was at your stage hair gel was my best friend! I had gone I to a salon at my local mall and the owner came right over to help me with all the products. I was a bit embarrassed with the lack of hair and explained that my current state was the start of my recovery from chemo. He asked if I had a few minutes he could "shape" my hair for me. Well after not sitting in a hairdressers chair for what seemed like years, I jumped at the chance to feel fussed over and figured he couldn't make it any worse! Well he trimmed the ends and showed me how to use the gel to slick the sides and bring out my cheekbones and then tossled dry the top. Best part was when I went to pay-he said that it was his pleasure and didn't charge me! I gave him a hug and proudly walked out of his salon feeling like a stylish woman. Needless to say, he's my hairdresser now (even though I've only had 2 trims since then ).

Hope everyone had a wonderful New Years! I would like to thank Deen for starting this thread, I'm always comming back here to catch up and I think that's because it's such a positive thread and seems to be the first big step all of us take AWAY from the treatment and start living our lives a little bit more normally ;-)

Happy & Healthy New Year to All!

I enjoy looking at all these photos. You all look great!

It's been 1 week since I put my wig away. I feel free!! Today, I have to pick up some moose. The sides are sticking out like the "flying nun". I am enjoying the salt & pepper look, but most of all, I am enjoying the fact that I don't have to worry about "roots" anymore.

May we all have a year that is healthy, happy and peaceful and yes, prosperous!

    (((Hugs)))

    Marie

these posts make me smile on this morning of a new year. Mommom, youARE beautiful as you are.

Puffin, try the conditioner, gel trick. That's so common for it to come in as a Mohawk. Are you talking about In the back though. I think it's cool when it comes to a point in the back. I have a very high hairline in the back so no tail or point for me

Slv, that was a beautiful post about your hair. I could feel your joy on that day at the hair salon and how beautiful of that hairdresser. I love to hear about the good spirit and kindness of people we have never met. People are naturally good I believe, we just need a situation to bring it out. I want to hug him now too!

Marie, glad you are free! I know what you mean about the sides and flying nun look. One side of my head curls out and the other side curls inward. You either have to get past that stage until it grows longer or trim it (but then you have to keep trimming when it gets like this-that's what I do because I'm keeping it short) or try toshape it with gel. I think gray hair looks good in short style. I'm more gray/white than salt and pepper and short is the way to go for me. Think jamie lee Curtis or annie lenno

I got my first haircut this week! Ok, really I just got the back of my neck cleaned up, and around my ears. My hair looks "intentional" now and not like a shaved head growing out. I will try to get a picture today.
