Puffin,  Here was Lisa's advice:  "Mommom, put some gel in it and let air dry and see what happens. Also condition the heck out of it and leave some in, gently towel dry (don't rub harshly) put in sulfate free gel (non drying and good for curly hair) gently finger into some kind of shape."

As Lisa suggested, I did not dry my hair, but just rubbed the water out and let it air dry.  I had been conditioning every day.  I also use some Nioxin scalp therapy after each shampoo, and a product recommended by my hair stylist who gave me a trim about a month ago - it's Goldwell brand "Unlimitor 4 wax spray".  You spray it on your fingers and quickly slick down the hair on the sides especially and at the nape of the neck.  Although previous to trying Lisa's technique, it did not make the rooster hair stay down.  It does better for the sides.

Sly58 - Beautifully said.  This thread is so encouraging and positive.  We all know how hard it's been to go through chemo, surgery, rads, losing our hair and trying to figure out our new hair world.  This thread is a Godsend to all of us.  Thank  you to everyone who participates.  Sly - that hairdresser was an angel to you.  What a sweet guy.  I'd love to give him a hug too.

Hugs to all.  You are the best.

Don't know what it is about hairdressers but they are such angels to many of us - I had one in SC who came to the hospital when I was in for testing that first awful week and she cut my hair right there in my hospital room and refused to take any payment - then a few weeks later came to my house to buzz my hair - my hairdresser here in Canada has just been so glad to "see me" she has cut my hair for free more than once and has volunteered to buzz me for free when I start chemo again at the end of January - I had taxotere six years ago and my hair has never grown completely back so being my hairdresser doesn't give you the usual every six weeks trim and blow dry appointment but that doesn't matter to these "angels"- they are there for the good and bad times and I love them for it!

Anyone on here have ANY luck with ANY over the counter products getting their lashes to grow back?? I have been done with Chemo for a year and mine hardly came back at all. Rest of my hair is back to normal, maybe a tiny bit thinner but hardly any lashes. My friend, (who didn't do chemo) had great luck with a generic Latisse but it did NOTHING for me! Any advice?

Tangles my eyelashes didn't fill out till about 2 years later. Not quite as full as before but now that I am in permanent chemo-pause and on hormone therapy I really can't complain. You might just need a bit more time.

My brows and lashes have thinned, but at 18 days PFC I am happy to see some new growth on my head! It's going to be a long time before I can't see my scalp anymore, but at least things have kicked into gear. :) I can't wait to have hair again. I've been using Rapid Lash which I think is helping my remaining lashes look pretty good, but no new ones are sprouting yet. I'm also using ReTress on my scalp but have no idea if it;s helped or not, since I don't have anything to compare it to. It smells good, at least. :)

4 months PFC, it's still way short but think I'll be topless at work on Monday. 7500 mcg biotin daily and Nioxin products.

bow, looks great, looks thick and healthy with nice color. You look beautiful, go out there and be bold and confident. I bet you'll get lots of compliments. It's close to jamie lee Curtis or annie Lennox look as I mentioned above, except for being dark.

My eyelashes are falling out...again, (8mo pfc)but this time there are new short ones already there. They just need to stagger their growth and shedding phases. Funny how the top lashes have fallen out but not the bottom. IDon't put mascara on the lower ones. So I think the eyelash curler may stress and weaken the lashes on top as well as taking the eye makeup off even though I try to be gentle. I still remember so well not having any lashes, brows or hair so I'm appreciative for what I've got

Bow your hair is so thick! I'm jealous ;-). I guess you missed getting the silver/grey.

I used nioxin shampoo all through tx, even though I only had a very few hairs I still felt I wanted to keep my bald noggin clean with shampoo rather than soap. I still use it because I like the way my hair looks with it.

Lisa, Idaho and nothing to do with work, just hanging around Ketchum. Several "stars" live there but the show stopper was Liza Minnelli and Barbara Streisand in the crosswalk one Christmas - I did not jump out of my car but I thought about it! We moved down to Boise a few years back, which I'm now very grateful for due to the most excellent medical facilities in the bigger city.

Blueflowers, I use the 3 step #2 Nioxin shampoo, conditioner and leave in foam. And I started using while on Taxol when the stubble showed up. I also massage coconut oil on my scalp before bed (use a nightcap) which I think helped, but who knows.

Bow, you and I are basically on the same track with almost the same dx. My hair is not that long and I've been using Nioxin shampoo, scalp therapy conditioner, and the spray that pretty much turns your skin pinkish to red wherever it hits. I started taking 10,000 mcg of biotin beginning of November when my MO suggested it. I also have a lot of gray hairs. The back of my head is thicker, curlier and has almost zero gray. I hope it looks like yours soon! I have an appt with the MO on Friday and I'm going to ask about 30 day hair color.

I ran out of the Nioxin, but it was the color treated formula I used before I was dx. Gotta run out and get more tomorrow. In the mean time I'm using Hair Rush shampoo. Not bad stuff.

What leave in conditioner should I use? I don't usually use that.

Gals I am a hair stylist and going through Chemo I was using Bosley then when my hair started to come back I switched to "FAST" by Nisim and holy cow dId my hair grow. I have been selling it to clients who just want to grow their hair out and they are having AMAZING results. Highly recommend it!

Tangles, is that a recent pic ? We went through chemo the same time and my hair is nowhere that long! I'll look into 'fast' but am curious, because it seems like my hair growth has really slowed.

Yup it REALLY works. My layers are a little bit shorter then the photo, but that is pretty much how my hair looks.  I will try and copy a picture of my hair 3 months ago in our local breast cancer walk. It has grown even more since then. It is sold in a 2 pack. Shampoo and conditioner and you HAVE to use both. Our local cost cutters sells it. I order mine from a supplier. I know they sell it on Amazon, but if you buy online and not in a salon you can not be guaranteed it is authentic. No side effects that I know of.

Nancy I am OK cancer wise, but the reconstruction has been an ongoing struggle. VERY long story...... Now If I could find something that would grow my eyelashes back!!!!!!!!!

Sorry the photo is so big. I could probably take time and size it down but Im not going to mess with it.....

Tangles - At 8 months PFC, in November, started using this because my lashes kept falling out and would never grow as long as they were before chemo. Within the last week or so my lashes are finally long again. Not sure if it was the mascara or not.image

Darn...............now I have to find somewhere that sells it. I'm not sure about Amazon now since you say it may not be authentic.

I know they won't guarantee it, but do they guarantee it anyway? I talked to two hair stylist about buying these brands in somewhere other then a salon and they were split. One said she wouldn't do it and the other said buy it where you can. Are they saying the bottles are filled with fake stuff or that it could be old and less affective? If that is the case they should have expiration dates on the bottles. If you really think about it, how can they get all those bottles and fill them with lesser product? My hair dresser thought they just want you to buy from salon. Something to thing about anyway. I might try that FAST stuff, I like Nioxin, but my hair looks like there is a lot of it, it's just short...really short LOL

Darn I will try and re size that photo tomorrow.

As for the shampoo thing. I would buy something like oh lets say like big sexy hair spray cheap from target or online what do you have to lose. Or a styling paste, but something like the FAST If it didn't work you would never know if it was a fake or watered down or what. I guess for something like that I would want to be 100% sure, plus the supplier I get mine from Guarantees it works.

Try a cost cutters if you have any around They sell it here..............

    Hi Tangles,

I am 6 weeks pfc and over the past week i finally got the fuzz growth that initially comes in, about 1mm of it only so far. I am interested in this FAST shampoo and conditioner you mentioned, do you think it makes sense to buy it at this stage of growth that i'm at or would you recommend it when i have more coverage. I do still have spots that don't have the fuzz. I can't wait to grow this hair!! As soon as it is long enough for extensions I will get those too. I have (had) thick frizzy hair and live in Miami so short hair is definitely not my thing.

Also - it looks like there is a version "original" with sulfates, and one without. Which one are you using?

I wouldn't use anything with suflates. I found a shampoo in my son's bathroom i had bought and then put in there called "It's not your mother's shampoo" or something like that. Supposed to make your hair grow thicker and stronger fast. Says "no sulfates". I may try this for a couple weeks and see. IF not I'll look for that Fast shampoo

The Sulfate free is for people who have extensions and have to protect them. I just use the regular. I guess if your going all super organic you could get the no sulfate. I try to watch all that stuff a little more then I used to but with all that poison that was in the Chemo I don't think this shampoo is going to hurt me. Most shampoo has it.  As for using it early on I started using it when my hair was about one inch. That is just when I discovered it. It wouldn't hurt to use a tiny amount now and get started. You wouldn't need much if you just have a little fuzz! I am going to try and attach my photo again! I re sized it. I have cut a few inches of the back length a few times so that the layers catch up. Other then that I think it has been growing really FAST!

pic was taken in Oct. Im on the left

Still looking for that rogain for the eyelashes!!
