Miscraw - it looks like you're still on Herceptin for a while? It was my experience that Herceptin slows the hair growth. I believe that several other people posted similar info earlier in this thread. Maybe that's the problem.

Thank you so much ladies. As you all know it's hard to adjust to the new look. Your kind words are a much appreciated confidence booster. :)

Miscraw - I had the same problem except my back and sides came in right away and the top that took forever. I kept buzzing the new growth down because I didn't see a sense in letting grow in uneven. I was pretty concerned about it and posted here a number of times asking if anyone else had experienced the same issue. I finally ended up trying Rogaine and it jump started the growth. My sides and back still grow faster and are a bit thicker, but it was like that pre-chemo as well. As others told me, just give it time. It will come back! Those stubborn areas just might take a little longer and little extra TLC.

Allydp- it's funny you mentioned Rogaine! I bought some like 2 weeks ago, but haven't started yet. I was worried that it I started it, that I would lose that hair if I stopped. Are you still using it?

MinusTwo- yep! On Herceptin for another 6 months. I wondered if that could be hindering things. It's just weird though because the top of my head & the back is growing like crazy.

Miscraw - I am embarrassed to say I'm not using it like I was. Maybe once or twice a week. It's hard because it leaves my hair greasy. So if I know I'm going to be home all day, I'll use it right after my morning shower. If I'm heading out in the morning, I end up not using it. What I need to do is make it part of my nighttime routine...but early enough that it won't leave a residue on my pillow. My good friend works for hair club for men. She says that minoxidil is part of some of their packages and works for 90 some percent of their clients, men and women, so I would definitely give it a try!

Bosum - I too thought I had a bad case of dandruff however I was allergic to the propylene glycol in the minoxidil. I switched to another brand that does not contain PG and never had another problem.

Bosum - I had to hunt to find one that did not have propylene glycol in it and finally found it at the MimoxidioMax no PG web site. It is 5% minoxidil but the carrier is not PG rather 5% azelaic acid. For me it has been very very effective and I use it twice a day. My hair is definitely thicker, and absolutely no itching anymore. Apparently there are many people that respond with itchy/dandruff like symptoms to regular minoxidil and have found relief in this product. If you look for a different manufacturer be sure to see if the carrier is PG or azelaic acid. Good luck, I hope this helps.

Hi Ladies, my last Taxol was 11/25. My eyebrows and eyelashes are almost all back, and are thicker than before. My nails are really hard growing back in, and one more file and they should all match. My hair is almost 1" long, super soft and growing in pretty even. I take Biotin every morning. Cheap and it seems to help. Good Luck!

Izzyfran - I started Latisse before I started chemo. Used once a day on lashes & brows - one drop for left & one drop for right. Continued to use through 2nd round of chemo after surgery - so probably 10 months. I stopped when I moved on to Herceptin only. Though there was a little thinning, I never lost all my brows or lashes and did not have to use any makeup to cover up thinning. As far as I can tell, I had no SEs from the Latisse. My eyes are green but they didn't get darker. My opthamologist said continue to use the dry eye drops but those were because of the Taxotere. The only draw back was the cost - and not covered by my insurance. Still - somehow I could deal w/being bald but not with no eyebrows so it was a true success story for me.

Beachbum, I take biotin as well. I don't know if it's helping or not, but I figured it was worth a try.

    Hello Ladies,

My last chemo was on Feb 18th. Still waiting for the soft fuzz to start growing.

I had a question - Is 2% Minoxidil same as Nioxin follicle booster or Rogaine - do any of you have experience of using Minoxidil and then Nioxin or others?

    Thanks.

Same question here blue flowers: or FAST shampoo? Chemo brain has me unclear. Hair coming back in chemo white, soft, look like a furby.

Last taxol was in November I think. Been on CMF every three weeks now--- have done 5.

Bosum - I read on these threads to use make-up brushes but I never wore makeup so I didn't know about any brushes. I just used the applicator that came w/Latisse. I put one drop in the lid and applied to the right lash & brow and then a second drop in the lid and applied to left lash & brow, then threw away the brush.I was too worried about transmitting germs to keep using the same applicator.

But you know, we're all so different. Maybe I would never have lost brows & lashes anyway? Just like some have nausea and some have diarrhea or neither. Some lose taste buds & some don't. Some get LE or neuropathy & some don't. It's such an individual mystery.

The American Cancer Society sponsors Look Good Feel Better. It is a two hour class to go over make up, scarves, and wigs. And you get a really nice make up kit to keep. They showed us how to cover for eyelashes and eye brows. I had a great time, the make up kit is really nice, and it is all presented by volunteers and cosmetologists. You can find it online for the info, and how to sign up.

Side note, my eyebrows and eyelashes started to come back as soon as they fell out. And I had my wig made with bangs just for that reason. But it really was quick! Good Luck!

Bosum: Ditto on the wig. I bought one wig & one halo and I'm really reluctant to donate them yet. Stash them in the top of the closet so you won't see them. In my case I put the wig behind the box w/3" heels that I'll never wear again - thanks neuropathy.

I did the Look Good Feel Better class too. It was fun. And the biggest perk was all the free makeup!

Hi. I am almost 3 years post chemo and have yet to regrow my eye lashes and eye brows. The only hair that has some growth is on my head, but it is thin and wispy and I still feel like I look like a cancer patient. I am beginning to loose hope of ever growing it back. Has anyone else had trouble regrowing hair? Any suggestions? My nails grow like crazy though so I am a little confused. I thought It would have regrown by now.

Hi FairyGirl, I take Biotin, and my hair is growing back very full. It is almost 1" long all over, but a little longer on top. The color is dark brown and gray but growing. My eyelashes are also back thick and full. My eyebrows are a little off, but I fill them in with make up. I would try the Biotin it is cheap OTC. I usually watch the Drug Mart for when they have them on sale BOGO. But it is working very well for me. My nails are back also, and back to normal color. And strangely the nails are very hard. I finished AC/T on 11/25.

I also use Johnson's Baby Shampoo and Pantene conditioner on my real hair. Not sure if that helps you at all, but I hope so. Good Luck! I hope it works for you.

fairygirl713 are you on an AI (aromatase inhibitors)? That could be the issue. Also did you get Taxotere as part of your chemo?

fairygirl713..I'm right there with you! My last chemo was 5-7-2013. I still have no eyebrows. Lashes are just starting to grow and I am still in wigs due to thin hair on my head. My nails grow like weeds. I did have taxotere which I've heard can cause permanent alopecia. I heard that on these blogs not from my doctor. I guess I drew the lucky straw again. It has sure been depressing. I take Arimedex daily. I have no clue if that exacerbates the problem or not.

    MinusTwo, thanks for the info.

My onco-dermatologist mentioned that not much is known about hair regrowth after chemo. I certainly learn more on this site.

Fairygirl, thanks for the tip. Will be trying biotin.

I used to use the women's but now I use the men's 5% once a day. I paint the women's 2% on my eyebrows once a day.

I have taken Metformin for several years for my diabetes and have never had my hair thin until chemo made it fall out.  I am 5 months out of chemo and have about an inch long hair.
