Hair Hair Hair - Another question

I keep waiting for it to get long enough and heavy enough that it will be forced to lie flat again! I always had thick hair but it wasn't particularly coarse. It was quite long for years though, so I don't know what it would have done before. Currently it's about 1 cm long. I tried to measure it, but it's still so short that it was a bit of a challenge.

Tobycc, I am on the north east part of Florida. Where are you?
Being patient is not easy in those early days, once it starts sprouting it will go a lot faster. You should be entering that phase soon.
rebecca, you look beautiful!
Cassie, the top hair has a mind of its own, it takes forever to grow and it does not cooperate. Even now my top hair still has a different texture than the rest, it is more coarse and more frizzy than the back.

rebeccakay, you look great. I'm hoping mine does as well. I miss my eyebrows and eyelashes almost as much as my hair. I'm 3 weeks plus PFC and my brows are doing nothing but lashes are starting to come back. Unfortunately, my hair is almost all white and standing straight up. I wish it was still dark like yours but will color as soon as it is long enough.

@Islandmom - thanks so much!
@ MJS It is slow going, that's for sure. Once it starts though, and you can relax a bit, you will find you aren't checking the mirror as often or peeking under your hat to see if anything is happening. I remember around week 7 saying "F IT! I can't be bothered to pay attention to this any more! And then it seemed all of a sudden to grow faster than before! Obviously just a matter of perspective, but maybe you get my point. Good luck love.

Rebecca very cute.
I am 10 months past chemo and I have to straighten my hair. It's very very curly. Islandmom you never got a haircut? Did you ever trim it? Th

Hi,
Did anyone have any experience of taking horsetail extract for hair growth? I have learnt so much from this forum that I wanted to find out from you all first.
Thanks.

islandmom thanks for the advice as well. I think I have decided to wait a couple more months and get to halle berry hair and take it from there. If I can feel comfortable to lose the wig then that's what I'll do and it will be the easiest. I feel like my hair grew a bit this week :

blueflowers, I take Biotin for my hair, and it seems to work well and it's cheap. I always pick it up BOGO.

Becca, looks like you and I started re-growing at about the same time, my last chemo was Dec 29. You are looking marvelous!

My last chemo was Feb 5th. Nothing starting to regrow yet, I still have the remaining fuzz that was left after they buzzed my hair off. My eyebrows continue to get thinner. Almost nothing left on my left eyebrow. Has anyone experienced this happening after completing chemo?
0 -
ThinkingPos - Yes. I had Taxol and lost my eyebrows and lashes and then they came back strong. They then thinned out again but are back to pre chemo now.
I'm getting my first trim tomorrow and I am 6 mos PFC. I can't wait to get rid of the white wispies on the ends! I'm going with my sis who is getting her hair colored, my doc STILL says to wait one more month for that! ugh. I know some on here colored just weeks after finishing chemo so I've been tempted, but I had hair thinning issues before dx so I'm going with what my doctor says.

Lorbgoo, other than my bangs I never had a haircut in 4 years. I will post a picture soon, which shows that the hair grew in a V shape in the back, the middle still longer. The curls will relax as the hair gets longer and has more weight. At 10 months I had a very curly top, which I had to blow dry, the back was not bad. Every year I say I will get a real trim and then I just keep putting it off. I guess I am a procrastinator.
HomeMom, one month is not too long to wait. It might be better anyway, the first color I had came out very uneven. I had spots on my head. I had to get it colored again the next day, because it looked bad. If you wait the hair might be more stable.

BosumBlues, Aww! You are so sweet. Actually, you ladies inspire me greatly, so I should thank you all. The "hair obsession" is only understood by us, only we know what is like to check the mirror many times a day. I know it is not an easy road, but here we are making the best of it.
I cannot believe you are 16 months post chemo. I am glad to hear you got some hair now. We would love to see a picture... Sometimes we are our worst critics and cannot see the beauty that other see. I think that finding the right hairstyle is really key, it does not matter if it is short or long. How is your texture compared to before?Lorbgoo, You got some serious hair and bangs, to boot! My hair was definitely not that long at that point. I do not see why you could not cut the back just a little, it will make it look fuller. Just make sure the stylist understands though, some like to cut. If you plan to let it grow just start babying it, because you will have some strands for many years. It is probably best to do little trims along the way, that way you get rid of the dry ends. (I am taking a break from doing yard work, but will take a picture after I get cleaned up).

Lorbgoo--- GREAT picture, thanks for the inspiration! I still look like a 2- year old poodle. Grey, white, dark grey, curly, yet soft, all over tufts.
Where are you in NC? Can't wait to get to our little place in TN in 2 weeks to start planning to fix it up, and go without a wig for the weekend!
Am doing biotin AND womens rogaine. It does seem to be growing quickly. going to start taking pics first of each month. It is hard to gauge PFC since I did taxoter/ taxol for 2 months and CMF for 6. CMF thins your hair, but doesn't usually fall out. Final CMF last Monday. Probably a half inch all over

It has been 4 years since my last chemo treatment. I have not had a hair cut, other than my bangs. Keep in mind that I am short so the hair looks longer on me. My prior hair was very very straight. Sorry the pictures are not the best quality. Here is a link to the earlier days.
The top hair is straighter and frizzy.I am lifting the top hair so you can see that underneath the back is more wavy than the top and it is not frizzy. I basically have two textures.

So far nothing more than what I have which looks like fuzz. Finished chemo Feb. 5th. I can now count the number of hairs left on my eyebrows... they didn't start falling out until last week.. and now it looks like the hair on my arms is thinning. Is this normal almost 8 weeks after finishing chemo?? Has this happened to anyone else?

Islandmom your hair looks great! Before my dx my hair was like that - straighter and frizzy on top and curly wavy underneath. I got a trim on Saturday to get off the wispy ends and make it look more like an intentional hair cut. It looks good and I got tons of compliments at work. I stopped wearing the wig as of Sunday! Yay me!
I really hope to post pictures.

Islandmom, your hair looks great! Right now I'm not crazy about these curls. I'm hoping it looks better as they grow out. I started taking Biotin and using a Biotin shampoo/conditioner. Not sure if it's helping yet.
Thinkingpositive, my eyebrows didn't thin considerably until two weeks after chemo ended. They grew back and thinned again. I'm hoping this is the last time!

ThinkingPositive, my brows thinned after chemo as well, but they have since filled back in nicely. I could also count them on one side at one point. Not anymore.

My eyebrows and eyelashes didn't fall out until towards the end of Taxol. I really hated it when the eyebrows and eyelashes went it was like the final insult from chemo. Four weeks out now and I have two hairs on my left brow and about 6 on my right. I hope they start coming back soon. My eyelashes are coming back in but only have two or three full grown on each eyelid. Surgery on the 7th, so hopefully everything starts growing back in.

.love your hair islandmom. I like your curls and hoping my curls looks like yours when mine gets longer.

Thank you ladies! You too will soon be looking back to a hairless time and it will be just a memory.
Homemom, I wish the frizzy hair was underneath, maybe it is time for some layers. Please post some pictures to see your haircut. Getting rid of the wig YAY!!!
Mommato3, my hair seemed to grow faster after I started taking Biotin. I still take it but not as often.
Lorbgoo, the curls will relax as it grows, I know that seems hard to believe right now. Your hair is very long for this stage so you will get there faster.
ThinkingPositive, loosing hair on my arms and legs is one of the few good things. I used to be very hairy all over and now I hardly shave my legs. The hair on my arms is barely there. The only hair that did not get affected was the underarm, it grows fast and is still thick.

IslandMom - funny how we're all different. I don't have to shave my legs much & underarm hair never came back, but all my arm hair is back - and LONG. Also all those nasty chin hairs that I had carefully eradicated with electrolysis are back.

For those of you taking Biotin...how much do you take? I haven't been taking it long but I hope it's working.
I had very little under arm hair and didn't have to shave as often when I was in chemopause but going back to premenopausal made it start growing fast again. I got my first OS shot today. Maybe it will slow down again.
