Linzer, you look fantastic! I have been looking at pixie cut photos for hours this week and if I had seen yours among them I would have not at all thought that it was after chemo hair.

I made a big improvement today, went out with a cap (no wig) for the first time since early September. Think I'm going to continue doing this on the weekends. Will still be wigging it to work until I can get a nice cut like yours.

linzer, looks good. do you still wear your wig at all? Mine is coming in mostly gray. I can see a few dark stands as well. Won't be able to go without wig until I can get it colored.

I was wearing a wig until last week and then I ditched it. It feels so liberating. I definitely see people looking at me thinking, "Wow, that sure is short :)" but that's their problem, not mine - LOL. Thank you so much for the compliments. It's been a journey, as we all know! It's nice to be back to normal decisions like, "What color will I dye my hair?" instead of, "Do I need to take an Immodium soon?" Haha!

    Hello ladies,

    Everyone is looking great!

I'm 6 months after chemo and hair is coming back grey. I was a dark blond before and had long hair my whole life. I'm getting used to it being short and everyone says I look great being short and grey. Once it's little longer I want to try and have it styled like Penny from Big Bang.

One thing I did find really disappointing when hair started growing back my chin and lip hair sprouted like weeds.Eyelashes were first to grow and eyebrows still a little thin but being blond they have always been light, but that darn chin hair lol.

    Let it grow,let it grow!

My question, was when it came back, did it eventually go back to the way it used to be? I hear different stories..my chemo nurse, an a couple of other ladies said it will be different. Then I heard it will go back to the way it used to be.

Either scenerio is possible. I have one friend who had stick straight hair, got curls after her chemo 21 years ago, and still has curls. Other friends lost their curls after about a year. Not sure about color. Mine has gone from white, to light grey to a mixture of darker grey and lighter grey. I had reddish highlights in my darker blonde hair before, no reddish at all now.

BosumBlues, - my hair, too, is soft and thin. (and this is with taking biotin! ) I am wondering if coloring it would make it look better, or make it weaker. Sad

I noticed my hair just started to get it's texture and shine back a year PFC. Give it another 4 months at least.

Lago - that's what I'm waiting for. New roots that have not been damaged should be starting the end of September - one year after last chemo. Then those hairs have to grow out some before I'll know what I'll end up with. My hair is very fine right now but quite full. I need to stop the Biotin just in case that's encouraging 'chin hairs'.

Minus I doubt that's what's encouraging chin hairs. Are you using men's minoxidil? That might be doing it.

Nope - I've never used anything but Biotin. Oh well, more money to the electrologist in the future.

I posted earlier and thought it "took" but it disappeared, so here we go again.

I had a trim of mostly the back and sides 6 weeks ago to curb my Carol Brady mullet (as my hairdresser referred to it:-).  My hair still has this baby fine texture, but is growing like a weed (as it did pre-chemo).  Six weeks later I now need another trim - at least on the back & sides - or I need a trim of some kind.  Here's my dilemma.  Do I have her just trim slightly to make it looks like something decent while it's growing out, OR, do I have her trim it similarly to the last time (back & sides & maybe tiny bit on the top)?

A few good friends have told me they love the shorter hair & that it makes me look younger.  I'm getting used to the front-only chemo curls & use a tiny flat iron to give them some shape.  Other than that, it is a trouble free style unlike my previous hair that was blown dry & curling ironed within an inch of its life (no pun intended).

Lago, I recall that you decided to keep your chemo induced short hair forever.  What prompted you to do that - obviously you're still happy with that decision.  I hear you ladies who just want it to grow as fast as possible & not worry about the style, but is there anyone else out that who decided to stay short?

    Thanks!  Paula

Paula Lots do keep it short. I kept is short because it looks great and is so easy to care for. I spend less than 5 minutes drying it. Long was closer to 25 minutes and in the summer about another 5 minutes to straighten to keep humid frizz away. Here's my hair transition starting on the right 1 week before surgery (6 weeks before chemo) August 2010 ending on the left September 2013. Same day as my avatar photo. Looks even better now. linky

Paula, I was thinking I bet a lot of people end up going short after. It does look good on you. I didn't see you before so I can't comment on the younger part. But I laughed at the Carol Brady reference!

Thanks for the input.  I just returned from my hair stylist for a look-see.  I agree with her in that it would be better for me to keep it short until I get my real texture hair back, so I don't end up with half and half hair.  I finished chemo at the end of July 2014, so if you add another 4 months or so to that - my "old" hair should be returning around November 2015.  I had lots of hair & it looked great, but I do think this short style suits me and makes me look younger than my 68 years.  There is more emphasis on my face and eyes w/short hair.  Plus, this baby hair just wouldn't take to the blow drying & curling iron that was the norm for my previous hair.  Maybe I'll get back to it down the road, but for now, I'm happy with slight trims to my hair to give it some shape.   Hair without shape is not a good look for me:-).  I've made an appointment to get a trim in about 10 days, when I know I'll really need it.

    Paula

Lago - I think you look great with your short hair!

Hey there...anyone's hair grow back in patches?  I have the soft fuzz coming in, but have a few spots with stubble or little to no new hair growth.  Last Taxol was 3/31/15 and AC ended in December 2014.  Thanks..

The front of my head came in faster than the back but not in patches all over. It kind of moved front to back

My hair fell out with Taxotere and carboplatin .When it was coming out my scalp was painful. Now I am finished with Taxotere since March. I'm on Perjeta and Herceptin . I have fuzzy hair and some clogged follicles and scalp pain again. I have no redness or fever. I am African- American. Any ideas on why the scalp tenderness again?

I just feel like I don't know what will happen to my body. Last month it was peeling hands from Hand-Foot syndrome.

I'm on radiation x10 days and my skin is flaky.

tiggersig - My hair (what there is of it) is patchy. Several spots have little no hair and the rest is sparse and hardly growing much at all, maybe an inch long and I'm coming up on a year from my last chemo. I had a completely different chemo regimen than you, though, so hopefully yours will fill in much better than mine has :).

I stopped by my hairdresser's today - made an appointment for my first cut post chemo (8 months) next Wednesday. She agreed it could use a trim and some shaping.

    chemo hair

    after chemo hair

after about a year my hair returned to my original hair... I really wish the chemo hair stayed.. it was so easy to fix it into a very short stylish look and was really dark... I still have it short but not as short as I did when it was chemo hair and now I color it trying to give it body....

imageHi all, thank you all for sharing, I'm 10 weeks out from my last chemo (i had 4 AC and 4 Taxotere) and currently have what i call male pattern baldness. Hair coming in at the temples so that at least it is noticeable, and on top and in back very thin. Most came in white/clear fuzz, i've colored it so that I could actually see it and not feel like it wasn't growing at ll. So many of your posts give me hope that sometime this summer my male pattern baldness with fade to real hair.. any suggestions

Stbreats, I've read other ladies say that their scalp hurt when their hair was growing back in so may be a good sign👍🏾! I'm Black too. Me and another poster was looking for experience from someone with our hair. Please keep us posted :)

I'm on CHT which started in February. Have #5 coming next week. I'm concerned about herceptin tho. Reading that it causes thinning. My hair is already fineand soft. I don't need it to be any thinner!

Herceptin just slowed down my hair growth while I continued those injections. It didn't seem to cause any permanent thinning for me.
