I know that the shorter your hair is, the more curl it has, too.

MomMom - It's my opinion that most everything is OK in moderation. But I do think I've read that soy should be limited for ladies who are hormone plus. I firmly believe it comes down to quantity & frequency. I still eat Asian food a couple of times a month. I might feel differently about soy if I were hormone positive, but after this ordeal, I'm not big on denying myself every single thing that makes life worthwhile.

I am curious about the whole soy thing. Don't Asian women, overall, have lower rates of BC than Americans?
0 -
Trvler. Lower rates in Asian women may have to do with the iodine consumed.

I don't worry about soy but I try to stay away from the processed stuff. I mean I love my hot & sour soup. 5 years NED this past August 31st. Must be doing something right.

Chloesmom, I am seeing more and more scalp. My hair just feels thin to the touch now. I use to have straight, layered hair and it's been curly since growing back. I know that when I touched my hair (as I did often, I guess I was just making sure it was really growing back) it felt pretty fluffy and thick. I've been reading a lot about Rogaine and a bit of the info is scary. Quite a few women said there was a lot of shedding in the beginning which I don't think appeals to me! Most of all I didn't like the comments when certain women decided to stop using it not only did the new growth fall out which I know happens but ALOT of the hair they had fell out too. Yikes, If that happened to me at this rate I'd be bald again. I have been looking into a small clip on wig piece for the top of my head. I never wore a wig after chemo, it just wasn't me. I think I could deal with this though if I had to and I love the wigs at this place online that I've actually been checking out for 2 yrs. It's called Godivas Secret Wigs....

Soy Isolate Protein is probably the thing which needs to be avoided the most because it's concentrated. Be sure to check ingredient labels, because it's in a lot of things ranging from veggie burgers to protein shakes.
Otherwise I've always read that 'unprocessed' soy like tofu, tempeh and miso are fine and even recommended as long as you limit intake to no more than one serving per day.0 -
my girlfriend was bothered by thinning on top due to normal aging. She got a clip on piece for the top and I couldn't tell where it was her hair and the piece

Did anyone have a lot of fuzz at the nape of your neck as your hair came in? Did you shave it and did it come back? It seems too low for normal hair but who knows? It is itchy when I wear my wig.

I have it. I think it is normal for hair to be there, it is just because we have none, it might seem weird. I know when I had a shorter hair style, the stylist would shave that bottom part. I would assume it would come back in, but then your hair would not be even. ???? My hair is about a quarter inch right now. I think Biotin is helping.

I subscribe to a publication called Nutrition Action Newsletter. I was just reading through the latest issue and it said Biotin is worthless. lol. I am taking it too.

I took Biotin for 9 mos. and it didn't do a darned thing. Nioxin shampoo also wasn't worth anything - save your money.

Hmmmm, I can pretend. LOL at least Insee some growth, but I can tell it is gonna take a good long while! Someine said men's Rogain worked well, but I am a little scared about some of this stuff. Thoughts?

I figured I would wait to see what happened before adding another chemical to the mix. My hair is growing nicely now. Still not long enough to do anything with but growing nevertheless.

Hair started growing again under Taxol, but it's not consistent. I've also noticed that both hair and nails are growing more slowly than before chemo, though they seem to be speeding up a bit. Chin hairs, sadly, are coming back, so the tweezer is once again part of the morning routine. Eyebrows coming back faster than lashes--what's up with that?

mysunshine, - I, too, am curious about Rogain, but reluctant to try it. My new hair is much too thin and whispy on top. Let me know if you find anything out about it!
its like 'adding insult to injury' to not have hair return to look normal after all the surgeries, chemo, etc

My eyebrows used to be more defined and slim. Now are grey, soft, sparse and fluffier. Read in amagazine that this is the current look LOL. It took chemo for me to look trendy
Said to fill in the spaces with a blond pencil and then draw on hairs with a finer dark one.

Trvler, I did have fuzz.
10 weeks from last chemo
12 weeks from last chemo
18 weeks from last chemo - If you enlarge you can really see the fuzz well

I am 8 months from last chemo and hair came in very thick and super curly, as in ringlets. I have colored it using a non permanent color...and wondering when can we go back to the permanent hair color?
0 -
Wow! Good for you! How long is your hair? I have done a little research on hair coloring and am going to go to a salon that does Organic hair coloring. I hsve always used Preference, but am afraid to use OTC products now

mysunshine48 - my hair is not very long. Maybe five inches. It feels like it is growing thicker than longer. Just stopped wearing my wig in mid August. I am totally gray so I need to color. The non permanent stuff just isn't doing the trick at the roots.

6 months PFC. Top is curly I just got a haircut to even out uneven length to keeping over all length. They cut the sides and back close so it wouldn't stick out over my ears and make me look like a muppet Kind of like it was its a big change foe the chin length hairdo I've had for years!

Chloesmom...mine is alot curlier... can you imagine?? I am just thankful I have hair at this point. Your's look great!!

it's a little thinner in the front. Blame the anti estrogen meds. Hope it stays curly on top to hide that Was a little curly before so we will see.

question for you ladies with your eyebrows back..... Did you see a greyish outline of where your eyebrows were before they started to come back? I swear I can see where they were but this might be my imagination wanting them back so bad..
0 -
Leigh, mine are coming back and also have a gray-brown outline. I think it's just the hair under the surface. Nice guideline for the eyebrow pencil.
0 -
YES, Leigh. I thought at first that my eyebrow makeup had stained my skin. But it was eyebrows coming back.
0 -
I hated loosing my eyebrows and was obsessed with them growing back. You can start to see the hair growing in before it actually breaks the surface. It's a good sign.

Leigh, yes, yes, yes, that's the eyebrows coming back. Won't be long now and you'll see their realreturn!
Cholesmom, we are hair twins! Mine was just like yours, see? I'll be 1 1/2 yrs PFC and 2 yrs since dx on October 18! I'm keeping the gray color and short style. Still get compliments...
i
Top 2 pictures are about 6 or 7 mo PFC (I think...how could I forget! I was sooo hair obsessed!) The bottom picture is with it straightened with a curling iron and how it looks now although I usually wear it curly as I'm still not so good with a curling iron. Bottom pic is how it look after the hairdresser trimmed and styled it. I like it!
