8 weeks PFC - with eyebrows!!
0 -
Thanks for posting all these experiences with color. Mine was about 90% brown before and six weeks PFC seems to be coming in about 90% gray. I had always planned to go gray as it came and not color it.
But as I told DH, if I have a new lease on life (fingers crossed), I am not signing it with gray hair. Though, seeing as it's only 1/4-1/2" long, I can wait for a while before starting to dye it. It's going to be the wig for a long while to come.
Now as for the wig, the double-stick tape isn't working too well now that there's hair. I might have to take it back to the wig shop and get them to put clips on again--but I need to figure out how long the hair has to be for those to work.
New brows, though I'm still filling in with the pencil. Lashes are still pretty pathetic. Leg hair is trying to win the race for most hair growing back. It's not a race, guys! Stop it!
Pennsygal, love the photo. I'd planned on going back to contact lenses at some point, but then realized that my glasses help draw attention from the eyelashes that aren't there. Vanity, thy name is cancer patients (at least in my case)!

Rain: My eyebrows and lashes kind of hung on til the end albeit very sparse. But once they last few fell out, they started coming in fast. I think the new growth pushes out those final few. So when you see them fall out, that's good. It means new growth soon.

Someone found a good hair dye that didn't have ammonia? What was it?
0 -
I just had my first haircut. And first color by the salon since my last chemo in February 2015. She used an ammonia free hair dye but I can't think of the name of it I can call her and find out but it definitely was ammonia free she actually called the company to make sure it was safe for using on my scalp

I don't know the names of any either, but I know you can google it and find several. Most good less toxic hair colors come from Europe. I looked them up, but don't need them now.......hair only 1/2 inch. But, when I do, I will look up again. You can also go to an Organic salon.

Pennysgal- looking good !! That's right where I was at 8 weeks. Your eyebrows are coming and looking good too!. I swear the Biotin I got at Costco helped. At 7 months PFC I have a purposeful haircut. I retired my beautiful wig a couple weeks ago. My hair is brown and I used Sally Beauty
Color Brilliance Demi Color. No ammonia. Super easy to mix up and use. Just mix one tube ( comes in an array of colors ) with 2oz of developer and paint on. Rinse off in 20 min. All grays gone!!! I mixed it in a paper cup and just threw away when done. Buy an application brush when you buy hair color.Let me know if anybody has any questions about it. Good luck!!

Thanks Patty and Rainny!! I have not been able to wear contacts for many years due to dry eyes from lupus, plus I have BIFOCALS, so my vanity went out the window long ago!
Thanks for the info on hair color - I will cross that bridge when I see how much gray comes in!
Patty - congrats on the purposeful haircut!!

Hey All!
Hang in there. I finished chemo in March! In 4 months I had 1.5 inches all over. I took Biotin from Costco everyday. Now I am 7 months PFC and I hung up my wig. Here is the top of my head.

Thank you Rain and Lorie.
I let it grow and then got it highlighted. It's curly and it never was that much. As far as hair pattern it grows like crazy on top but not the bangs or the back. Weird but who cares I will take hair. I ditched the wig 2 weeks ago. I will miss her she got me through the roughest days. Haha.

what are you ladies doing with your wigs? Mine was over $500 and trying to decide if I should donate it or hang on to it as a j.I.c.
0 -
Live-Deliciously: I really want to donate my wig. And my hats. And my Buffs. But I've already had one recurrence so I'm skittish about the "other shoe". I do take books to the infusion center regularly and hope they might be useful until I get the nerve to get rid of the rest of the stuff.

Live Deliciously- I donated my Hat with Hair and my Synthetic Wig to the Cancer Center I went to. I am keeping my Real Human Hair for now ..

i kept the wig that looked the best that had been trimmed to suit me. Also a couple of caps that fit me the best j.i.c. Maybe I'm hoping that keeping them will somehow keep the cancer away. Gave the rest to a place that supports cancer patients.

OK ladies, - I love all of your hair pics but they make me wonder, even more, why I have such straight, thin, fine hair after a year pfc?! I was the girl with the curly hair! and now it's straight and baby fine?
Those of you with curly hair post chemo, - did your hair return to what it was pre-chemo?
I am taking biotin, but doesnt seem to be helping.
Has anyone here had hair loss after long surgical procedures? It seemed like it was coming in thicker prior to my surgeries (or maybe I was imagining that??)

I don't post a lot, but here is a one year photo, uncut and untouched. I had stick straight thick hair before BC and now it came back in thicker, but with a different texture. It is like wearing a wig and a wool cap, it is soooooooo hot!!!!! it is definitely time for a haircut.

NoMatterWhat.....Holy Cow! You have amazing hair! I would love that, but right now at 3 months PFT, mine is only about 1/2 inch.

NoMatterWhat-
Congrats on your beautiful hair!! It seems like it once it starts to grow it really takes off. Mine came back so curly too!!

beautiful hair Nomatterwhat!
My hair was stick straight, but has come in curly, more like wavy. Color is the same, I'm a natural blonde.
I'm keeping my wig and all of my hats. I know of so many women that have had a recurrence, I am pretty much convinced that I will also have to face this beast again. They say that most recurrences take place within five years of primary diagnosis, so I may revisit that decision then.

PMR53...Patty, thank you so much for posting the info about the Color Brilliance no ammonia color! I bought this at Sally Beauty Supply today and used with great results! My last chemo was July 7 and had permission from MO to color my hair. They warned the color may not take or damage the hair. So happy to have hair and no grays for now. I've been following this board since April

My hair is coming in straight......would like a little curl! White, too, so I can hardly see it cause it is the same color of my head! I will be happy when it is long enough to color.

At firstmine was straight and then suddenly got yo a length where it went crazy curling almost overnight.

BBpie- glad you had good results! I really did too. It does a good job of coloring the gray and it's so easy! I finally had long enough hair to get some foils. I think the Biotin helps too!

Thanks for the wonderful comments, but I just don't know what to do with it now. I love my curls and would like to keep them.

I had the same problem but my hair was even curlier. I decided to go get it cut, made it easier to style in the morning. I'm used to having short hair so it really didn't matter, but I can see as it's starting to grow The curls are starting to

Sunshine, I'm laughing because I have the same problem. From a distance I can see a little brown-ish but close up I think it's white. I can feel it but can't see it.
How long does hair have to be to color? I'm 10 weeks out from CT and don't even have 1/4 of an inch! I'm obsessed! Every morning and every night I look to see if there's a change. Like watching a pot of water coming to a boil?
I did get 2 chemo beanies today and I wish I had found these months ago. LOVE them!
I'm going to try and add a photo...

I guess that photo didnt work! Trying again

Rebecca54, I put dye on my hair as soon as I could, like when it was super, super short and still thin. Buzzed the long wispy ugly grays and colored my hair. If there is hair, it can be colored in my opinion. Made me feel way better.
