I went into Ulta today (pissed off about Katie Holmes big hair picture next to the breast cancer October pink thing) and told them how offensive that campaign is in October. I said why can't you do a campaign helping women deal with eyebrows and lashes and how to look normal through chemo? And also for older women who have to deal with thinning brows etc. as they age?
I'm siccing Katy on them. No more big hair October, it should be all about lashes and brows!
Oh Katy......

I haven't had a good look at myself until now.. I'm growing some sparse fuzz on my head, and some pubes are back.. But realise that I only half my eyebrows left, and most of my lashes are gone!! I'm halfway into taxol now. I lost my hair during AC, but kept most of my brows and lashes then. Boo!

I lost half my eyebrows and most of my lashes two months post chemo. But now at four months, they are back.
Hang in there, they will come back

Lisa. How do you get it to look so good. When I use flat iron my curls become a frizzy mess.

Thinkpos-My hairdresser taught me with a curling iron. I watched carefully while he was doing it. Use lots of conditioner on it and put a dab in at the end and leave it in. I use products made for curly hair, no sulfates, doesn't dry it out. Handle hair gently, don't brush, just finger it. And have your hairdresser teach and show you. I don't use a flat iron, just a 1" curling iron but I'm not really good at it. My pictures are all after my hairdresser has cut and styled it.... It's hair though, better than when there was none

I actually think when you finally lose all of them is when they are getting ready to come back. I think the new grow follicles push out the final hairs. I had about 4 brow hairs left on each side and they hung on til after FC and when they fell out, that's when the new growth began.

Lisaj514...I love your hair...thats how I try to get mine now that its longer...but it comes out a frizzy mess. It was much easier when it was shorter, then I could spike it and it looked great...now its at thay in between point..

I lost my lashes about 2 months after chemo ended. Didn't take too long for the lower lashes to come in, upper ones are slow coming in and still very SHORT. Just this past week I have lost almost all lower lashes! I do remember hearing that this happens...for those of you that have gone thru this "cycling"...once they come back again, is that it, or does this coming and going persist? Feeling very defeated right now.

Hi Ladies! I found out how to tame those chemo curls today! Went to my hairdresser and she shaped and texturized the top. It has grown in thick and curly. Then she used a flat brush and blew dry it all to one side and then all the way to the other. Kinda like Donald Trumps hair. Then she put pomade and it came out pretty straight. It looks like Anne Hathaways pixie. I have never had short hair since the 2nd grade so it's new. It's a purposeful haircut so I am happy. No more wig. I also colored it and got highlights. I am happy that this hair nightmare is better.

For some people they lose their lashes once and that's it. I lost my lashes and my eyebrows three times. My eyebrows I think will never be what they once were. My lashes however are even better than they were before. My lashes always came back very quickly. I do think they are done and won't fall out again. I hope you are one and done.

Lisa you look great! I am enjoying the current cut, just happy to have hair. Have to laugh. The eyelashes came in but only 1/2 the original length. The brows are different. The pubes came in fuller than ever and less grey. Wouldn't you know there is more hair where I don't need it! It's a crazy road trip we are on here

Lorie- I lost my lower lashes and they really have not grown back either. My upper lashes grew back, but half the length. I just use eyeliner on bottom. I guess I am just happy for hair. Google Brian Joseph lash builder. I ordered that and used it through chemo. It seemed to help.
Lisa- your hair looks so beautiful and healthy!! I love the color too!
Have a great Columbus Day!

Oh Bosum - no... So it's true that if you stop the rogaine the benefits reverse. So sorry to hear that.

Bosum - I'll hope with you. I know my hair growth was VERY slow during the year I continued with Herceptin.

Ladies! My hair is coming in mostly silver/grey to start - it's supposed to be dark brown - but the dark brown is coming in - i bought Brown Glaze from Ulta - which is like a tiny tint? It took the edge off the silver and looks so much better. The silver grey hair is now maybe lightly tan? But doesn't stand out like plain silver now. I'm hoping to dye it in 2 weeks, when I'll be 8 weeks PFC.

How long is your hair, Princess? Mine is coming in silvery too, although I think in the back it is more brown. I was thinking it was too early to color for real.

my hair came back in mostly silver too. Then I died it with the natural hair color stuff. Its fading out and now my hair roots are much darker. I think it takes a while for the full pigment to come back. It's been since June 2 PFC and I have almost 2" of hair. But shorter in the forehead area maybe an inch there. It started growing really slow but now I'd say it's normal growth rate. So there is hope.

Finally, getting my first haircut today since I was diagnosed one year ago. Getting color too... hopefully the salon will do better than the Non Permanent color I have been using to cover the all gray that grew back. Nine months since last chemo. Longest part of hair is about 3 inches...hopefully she can do something nice with it.

Hair came in straight in July but the longer it gets the curler it gets! If I put oil on it the curls clump into cute bunches. Otherwise I look like a dandelion ready to go poof

For me the white chemo hairs gradually went away, leaving my color as it was before. It's a wild new texture, though.

mine was the same. Wild! Very curly and bushy! Haircut came out really nice. Hoping that I can make it look as good as salon did

3 inches is long for 9 months! I hope mine grows that fast. At 1/4 inch now, seems like wigs for me for a good long while! Glad your haircut turned out well and you are happy!

Thanks mysunshine48... I was very surprised mine grew so quickly. And how thick it was. You should have seen all the hair she took off!!

I looked it up and it said hair grows on average about 1/2" per month.

my daughter has very curly hair. Since mine looked like a white poof ball I called her for advice. She suggested washing it with conditioner, not brushing it, but using my fingers to roll the curls into bunches. Iput Moroccan oil on it first
Looks kind of like when my mom would take out her curlers. Better than the poof ball

I was so thrilled to get hair again -- even though not blonde/light brown with a few greys, but now more of a silver tabby -- and poodle curly. I said to myself 'at least it came back thick'..... and waited to go blonde again. As new to the curly thing, it took a while to style it without looking like an 87 year old perm, but eventually figured out how to soften and stretch out the curl with gel or mousse.
Finally, I had it cut and coloured recently and was checking the back --- aaaaaaaakkkk (((( a bald spot has developed on the crown - first a dime, and now an oval quarter. I am about 6 months into Letrozole {Femara} and just found out about the possibility of 'male pattern baldness' -- I had only heard of the chance of thinning........ Initially wondered if I have stress alopecia.
Bosum Blues -- just saw you said you have that male pattern baldness... is it extreme thinning or bald patches? Geez ... Is Rogaine the only answer? My onc wants me to stay on Letrozole 'forever' as lobular cancer often sneaks back much later......... Any others on endocrine therapy with bald patch or extreme thinning, and what helps. I was expecting it with chemo, but not this.

so far I have not experienced any thinning yet. 6 months taking letrazole. Hoping it doesn't happen.

Well, you just answered whether or not those pesky chin hairs would come back....was hoping they would not and would consider that a "silver lining".
Herceptin, too....not sure what's up with my "signature".
