The nail is rounded like an upside down spoon. It presses on my shoe and hurts as it is double the height it used to be. All gnarly like a cows hoodimage

This blog post nicely summarizes how hair grows back after chemo and what changes you might see:
    http://www.harklinikken.com/blog/chemo-curls-your-...

And for anyone who's hair is still thin more than 3 months after stopping chemo, the Harklinikken treatment (a topical Extract) might be an option. You can read one breast cancer survivor's hair regrowth story here: http://www.harklinikken.com/tinas-hair-restoration...

    Best of luck,
    Katie

My bestest buddy in the world is donating 10 inches of her hair to Pantene to be made into a wig for a breast cancer patient.  She is dedicating this wig to me.  There are just not enough words to thank her for what she is doing.  Whoever gets this wig will be very lucky and probably very cute with blond/red hair.

Wore my human hair wig that I got yesterday. Had to flat iron it to shape it. After 8 hrs it is wavier. After 6 months of the synthetic I have become spoiled of the command go. But this one is soo soft, great movement.

It's been about 14 months PFC for me. The first time I trimmed and colored was this past May. I've had it trimmed about 3 times I guess.

I waited to get the ok from my MO. I too kept looking at my head every day for new sprouts. It was kind of fun, but this is better :) I just came in from outside and it's windy here today. I had a better one but for some reason my iPhone isn't sending it to my Mac. It's also kind of flat today. Oh well, it's hair!Nerdy

Weekly hair check 10 weeks PFC: Well, good news! The hair on top of my head, which is nearly an inch long, is coming in more brown than grey. The sideburns, which I desperately need because my ears stick out, are iron gray, however. The back and sides are shorter. I refuse to look until I'm sure I won't see any bare skull. So far, it all seems more straight than curly, but we'll see what happens as it grows out. Right now, except for the grey, it's a great cut for a 10-year-old boy!

Sticking with the wig for a while longer....

I'm trying to grow it out to my shoulders and then use my fat curing iron to create those big ringlets. May do that whole two tone color they are doing now with the bottom being a lighter color then the top.

    Thanks for all the compliments!

I do not post much anymore but should add my experience to your nail discussion. I also had trouble with toenails. I lost a little one and both of the big ones started to detach. All of this happened PFC. I finally went to dermatologist. She cut them down as far as possible and gave me expensive RX. Fortunately it was summertime so I could wear sandals. My big toe nails had always been thick and I did not realize that something was wrong. It took about a year to completely correct. I get pedicures about once a month from person I trust.

I started taking Biotin during chemo. My fingernails are better than they were before chemo and my hair is very thick. I am 2 years PFC and I have most of the original length back. I do not know if it has the same texture because I used to keep it straight with either heat or chemicals. Now I wear it natural. I no longer use dryers, curling irons, flat irons, hot combs or relaxers. I cannot be sure if the Biotin has contributed to the successful growth of my hair and nails, but I do not plan to stop taking it until I can pull my hair back into my normal summer poneytail.

I had color resistant grey hair before chemo and now it is worse. I continue to use permanent hair color because the others do not work.

I don't know what color resistant grey hair is but I am fairly certain that's what mine is. :)

thanks for post Gwenny! I'm not sure if I should go to doctor with nail issue.

I saw PCP last month and she said it is growing out. The newest 1/2 of my nail is the normal flat pink shape. The chemo part is 4 times as thick and presses on my shoe it isn't ingown as I trim the end all the time. When it presses on my shoe it presses the edges into my skin and hurts.

Any thoughts compared to how yours was?

I'm 7 mos PFC and can't imagine only being 1/2 way there

My toes also hurt when I had to wear closed shoes. Whey they first started growing I had the same problem as you. The top part did not feel attached and fungus grew in. I considered having them removed but doc said to let RX work. I kept them cut short and continued to use the RX. This past summer they looked a little better so I let the manicurist start using the sanding tool. I can finally wear most of my shoes without any discomfort. Sorry I do not have better news.

Gwenny - It's such a long process. I finished chemo Dec 2013 but continued Herceptin through Sept 2014. Sounds like our big toenails are twins. My derm doc said it takes about a year of continual treatment to get rid of the fungus. She asked if I wanted to try Juvila, but a 3mg RX was over $400. Eeek. I started Ciclopirox 8% & Gentamicin .3% Dec 2014, but i haven't been consistent. The first RX you paint on every night for a week & then remove and start over again. The second RX you apply one drop per nail twice a day. I'll do it for a couple of weeks & then forget or fall asleep or not want my feet bare & freezing. Nails are growing, but oh so slowly. Maybe they're half out & still thick, but also maybe mostly attached again & fungus doesn't seem to be spreading. I've taken Biotin for almost two years and i do believe it has helped both the nails & the hair.

ChloesMom - Shoes push on my nails too. I pretty much wear nothing but Easy Spirit Travel Time shoes anymore. Oh, and a pair of running shoes that are a full size bigger than normal. I also have neuropathy, so don't wear my sandals much since I can't feel my toes or the balls of my feet. I was a shoe nut & it's been really depressing to get rid of all my pretty shoes. But two years out, it looks like the neuropathy will be permanent even if the toe nails finally recover. Sigh.

I soaked them tonight in warm salt water. Was able to lift up the creepy part of the nail and trim it way back. Shoved a piece of cotton ball soaked in tea tree oil under the loose part and it feels wonderful. Going to try melaleuca under it tomorrow. Thanks for info. I found tips on toenail care from Dr YouTube. LOL

Minus two. My DH calls me Amelda as in Marcos the lady who had several hundred pair of shoes. I love shoes and have been wearing the same 3 pair all year!

I am 5 weeks PFC. I am that crazy person with the mirror everyday checking out my hair. I can finally see a 5 o'clock shadow type of growth. I buzzed off the white fluff as I couldn't stand it. It was so sparse and so fine. I am glad I did as it is now coming in more even and darker. I am so looking forward to having hair again.

I am wondering if any of you that had TC chemo managed to hang on to their eyelashes or did all of you lose them? My eyebrows have thinned, I have lost a few bottom lashes but my top ones are hanging in there. I have been using Latisse for a few weeks on my top lashes to promote growth. Don't know if this is useless and giving me false hope. I have read some people have lost them at 6 weeks PFC.

Hi DeeRatz, I lost my eyelashes as my hair started growing. I think they had stopped growing during chemo but just held in place, and when they started growing again what was there got pushed out. Maybe the Latisse will help though... fingers crossed for you. I'm 18 weeks PFC and still check my hair daily.... it's not growing fast enough for me (less than an inch so far) and is now starting to curl ! (I had straight hair before). Good luck to you.

11 weeks PFC, and about an inch on top and maybe 3/4 inch on the sides and back. It's a great cut for a 10-year-old boy, except for the gray. Before chemo I was about 10% gray, and now it's about 90%. Hoping for some more brown as time goes on. I love the pictures posted by those of you who are further along! Keep 'em coming!

But don't get me wrong; I'm so so so happy to have hair! Just looking forward to the day when I will have much more of it.

When your eyebrows and lashes completely go, that's when the new growth will start so don't despair about it. I think the new growth pushes out those final stragglers.

Rain: My hair came in much grayer than I expected. I am not sure if the tips are just chemo fuzz. They do seem awfully dry. I am having it colored on Tuesday for the first time.

I did buy some fake lashes in case mine fall out. Could be interesting putting them on. I have never worn them before.

I did notice my one chin hair has started growing again....I didn't miss plucking it during chemo. That's when you know your hair has "really" started growing

I couldn't get those dam$ fake lashes on if my life depended on it. I think when you have no lashes to anchor them, it is 10,000 x harder.

I wore my glasses (as opposed to contacts) through chemo and the aftermath, figuring that would give the world some distance from my lack of lashes and my penciled-in brows.
