I have more hair today!
If it were darker, I'd ditch this hat right now.
Today I resolve not to check my scalp every 45 minutes.

Kate, I've already decided that today is the last day that I'm wearing my headwraps/bandanas to work. Monday, I'm walking in with whatever hair is on my head. I'm going to take Sloan's advice and slick it down a bit along with wearing long earrings and just deal with it.

Kate I am down to checking the back of my head just once a day now. I remember when I could see the change every day, having the dark hairs fill in. Now my hair just gets curlier everyday.
My daughter told me today that she kind of has hair envy. I pointed to my head and asked her if she was crazy. She told me it looks really nice and one day I will look back at pictures and think it didn't look so bad. If this had been a hairdo I had chosen it would be so different. When it is one that was chosen for me it makes it harder. I am enjoying having hair though.
Justmaximom-rock it!
To the rest of the Warriors posting pics, it makes my heart happy to see all of us moving on past chemo!0 -
The pictures are GREAT! Hair! YAY!
Kate- It's okay to check it every 10 minutes. I think it does make it grow faster. haha
Dee - I couldn't agree more!!!!
All-- So, I bought some styling cream and some wraps for keeping my hair smooth and laying down for a pixie cut. I have always had naturally curly hair, but never this short! So, I bought some stuff on Amazon --my local sally's beauty supply didn't carry this stuff, but some do-- and I'll post pictures of how to do it to get a frizzy cut to lay into a smooth pixie cut. Give my products a few days to get here, and I'll post pictures for those of you wondering how to tame your curly hair. (You ladies just getting hair, I know your response, "Hey, I'm just happy to have hair!" haha)

Sloan, would love to know what you're using and how you're handling it. Your hair looks great and much tamer than my wild stuff. When my son was little, his best friend had this wild cowlick that we all thought looked unbelievably cute. Much less cute on a 50-something mom, I must say.

El Tigre, that's a pretty terrific amount of hair for only 29 days PFC!

I just love seeing progress on you ladies!

Here is 8 weeks, 10 weeks, and 12 weeks, all without makeup. These would make such great blackmail shots! I will be wearing a wig for a long time, though am happy that my eyebrows and lashes are back so I don't need to apply a drag queen level of makeup before going out of the house anymore. RevitaLash is the best!

ok, I know I am obsessed....but I am sure you all can understand so I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts on my latest obsession: when I touch my lovely new, soft hair (which of course I want to do every minute or two, although I usually only do so in the evening, not at work.. :-)) I can now feel a lot of bumps, which I didn't notice before...like a bunch of tiny raised dots or pimples...are those the follicles? Hoping someone will reassure me that isn't a bad thing!
Love all the pics!

octo I had them too. It's the hair pushing thru. I just put cortisone cream on them to get them to shrink up. It took about a day or two to resolve.I use a deep conditioner when I shampoo to make my fuzzy hair smooth. Plus I was going bareheaded at home to "air out " my head as much as possible. I think too much time in a hat and sweating made my head bumpier.

oy... I'm so impatient.... 14 weeks PFC today - have a pre chemo bald spot from 20 years of tucking the end of my braid under my hair with a bobby pin that rubbed on my head.

Sloan... Please update with your tips when you can! I had some wave to my hair before, but it was also long and I knew what to do with it.
Now it seems straighter on top, but curly in the sides/back. And I need a good color job. I'm used to being blond. Blonde no longer! I don't recognize myself at all, even with growing hair. I'm happy to have hair for sure! But this is still weird....

Thanks for the reply Shopgal! The bumps are less noticeable already this am...maybe just because of your reassuring post! I also go bareheaded at home...I usually can barely wait to get that hat off!
Molliefish, looks good to me!

coconut oil helped my scalp bumps a ton. I had a hard time not scratching and picking. Sometimes an oral antibiotic helps too, ask your doctor

Please be careful buying hair products off of Amazon. Those are often third party sellers and products can be counterfeited. If the products' cost is significantly cheaper than normal, that's a red flag. I once bought something off Amazon that I was having trouble finding in the stores. It made my scalp itch. I will never buy any product that goes on my body off Amazon again.

Just popping in to say.....check out Juice Beauty products. All Organic! I love their shampoo, even though my hair is only an inch and a half so far. I use all their products and LOVE them.

Dee your hair looks darker in your profile pic. Did you color? It looks good.

Shopgal-I have been using a colored conditioner on it. I put it on and leave for An hour and then rinse it off. It works quite well. I use it every few days.

Sorry this is a long pist, but it has pics!
Okay, let me help some of you ladies who are struggling with your new curls and want a more sleek style. I have always had curly hair, so I can give you tips! If your hair starts to get unruly, there are ways to tame it!
You'll need 1) foaming wrap lotion (I used Motions, but any kind is good), 2) something to wrap it tight and flat in like a bandana, foam tape, or wrap strips (I like Wrap It strips), 3) scarf or velcro wrap cap to hold it in place.
I'm ready in 30 min. My hair is really soft if I use this method. It's wirey if I let it dry naturally or blow it dry. I choose this!
This is what my hair is like if I don't tame it:
...and the untamed back...
So, I'm washing with baby shampoo, conditioning with kerastase, and then wraping it to straighten it. You put 3-4 pumps of a foaming wrap lotion on clean conditioned hair. I used a foaming wrap lotion by Motions, but you can get some at any store in the multicultural hair products section. If you do have really dry hair, you might consider a leave in conditioner before the foam.
Here's the picture when I slicked down my hair with the foam. Actually, I put more on and got it really straight. Flatten it so it's really straight.
Next, I used wrap strips. You can get a box of them for $5 or you can use a bandana or velcro wrap. You have to wrap it REALLY flat and snug to get it to dry flat.
Then, I put a scarf on to hold it (or a velcro wrap cap or satin cap).
It takes my hair about 20 min to dry, so I go get dressed and put on eye make, whatever. Then, you remove the wraps and it's really slicked down.
I brush it with my finger tips to give it a little volume, add a little Crew pomade or Biosilk to make it shinny, add big earings. Done in 30 minutes. Tah dah!

Sloan - you look so cute with your hair like that.. I did think the back untamed looked cute too though.. but liked the straighter flat hair front..

Sloan, you are just so cute! These are fantastic instructions. Love your Hotel Del jacket too.

iamnancy- my stylist used to say, "Let's work with the natural curl!" I got so tired of hearing it I let her one day...and she said, "I'll never ask again. Your hair is so unruly!" Haha. So, yes, I let the back curl a little, but you saw what it looks like if I let it dry naturally. I describe my hair as no one hair wants to touch any other hair on my head. That's how frizzy it is if I don't tame it. Yikes!
Peachy - Don't you love the Hotel Del?!

Sloan you are adorable. Great tips on taming the mane

Wow, Sloan. Thanks for these great tips (and photos!). Will look for these products.
Caught a glimpse of myself in the bathroom mirror this morning. There was a bit in common with Albert Einstein, except that his hair was 1. longer 2. grayer. But the unruly aspect was there in spades!

Sloan, the difference is amazing. I am too lazy to do all of that. I think mine will be more manageable. Pre cancer, I dried my hair straight with a large round brush. But I can barely use that brush. I tried my husband's small round brush and it worked great. I didn't try it until the end though so I want to try it today for the whole thing.
