I'm 5+ years NED. My profile photo is from this October. You bet I'm keeping it short. So easy. I save 20 minutes a day not having to dry my hair more than 5 minutes.

Lila-Claire-I did buzz off all of those fuzzies. Once my dark hair started to come in good I buzzed it all off. It broke my heart to cut off my new hair.....but I was glad I did. It came in more even afterwards. I almost should have done it a second time as I still have longer white chemo fuzz hairs that stick out if I don't slick them down.

Exercise-guru-your hair is coming in nice and even. Looks good

    You all look so great!

SouthernCharm - I bet your hair starts coming in really soon. Mine started off looking like a shadow on my head and before I knew it, it filled in.

I'm *almost* to the point of tossing my wig. I keep telling myself, just one more inch.

Lila...I had mine trimmed, I had odd tufts and longer hairs sticking up. She trimmed it and it actually looks like a hair cut

Hair is still about 2 inches long and grows every which way. So I tried combing it this morning (duh), and to my surprise, the wild curls revealed themselves to be growing out in waves. They look like the waves I've always had, but tighter. So I'm going to assume that they'll be more easily controlled as the hair gets longer (please, please, please) and has a little more weight.

I'm also getting the mullet thing in back. I remember when my son's hair was growing in, towards his first birthday, he had that look for a while. I suppose I'll have to trim it to match what's growing down from the crown in back if I want it all the same length, i.e. a blunt cut. Which I do.

I realize the last time I had hair anywhere near this short was in 3rd grade. And it was board straight--the waves didn't come 'til puberty.

rainnyc, once again we share the same hair story! When I turned four I told my mother I wanted long hair, and it was for the next 46 years. Never had layers, and with the exception of bangs for ten years starting in the late 80s, it was the same. My son also had a mini-mullet as a toddler. Because I had a wretched wave going on at the back of my head starting in my 30s, I fully expect that mine will be just like yours when I achieve your length. Living for the day that I can have a ponytail again.

    Such great posts from everyone.

Lago great to see your pictures along the way.

Exercise guru your hair looks great and seems to be getting thick. Mine does not seem to want to grow in the very front at my hairline.

Southern Charm it will start. I was at the exact same point. Mine will be 12 weeks this week PFC.

SoCalGrl - I am with you on how long before I will go without scarves or hats. I find myself wearing hats more instead of scarves or my wig because I have some hair sticking out but not ready to ditch it yet. Maybe another month. One can only hope

    Have a great week everyone

Looks great KateB79. I realized my hair was growing when I got out of the shower the other day and there was water balls in my hair. It's the little things that can get me excited with my hair.

lol, water balls! I got excited when I dried my hair and the towel was really wet!

    Guess it's the little things....

Duzy, the spot right in the front center of my head was the last place to grow, had a bald spot there forever! Then finally it filled in! I've seen other women post that hapoened to them too

Kate nice growth. You have some good hairyness going on there.

Here's a happy smile on hair topics.... my sister like to joke with me often she calls me a hairy beast. I love hearing that. Makes me smile every time. I'll happily hear being called a hairy beast anytime.

and duzy water balls make me happy. Sometimes I reach up to wring out my hair and realize I just have a growing back buzz now. But at least it's hair.

Every silver lining has its cloud....hair has really made progress the past week (will try and post an updated pic this weekend) and now that it has, I can see that, alas, I am coming back more grey than before, especially on the sides. I used to pride myself on being over 60 with virtually no grey hair (and never a need to die it)...which just goes to show, that what they say about pride and falling (or losing the hair in this case) is true....

Not that I am really complaining. It is a fair trade for getting the hair back finally. Indeed, I was even happy this am to discover that the hair on my chin that annoyed me so much has come back. and my legs need to be shaved!

yay for hair and hugs to all,

    Octogirl

So, 14 months post last chemo, 7 months post last Herceptin, currently on Tamoxifen

I have always had long thick brown hair. I started dying it about 20 years ago, but when it would start to grow out, you saw the blond wispy hairs at the nape and outlining my face, brown, white and some black hair. Now I have shoulder length black and white thin hair. You can see the scalp looking pink around the part line, but I am fortunate that is about the only place the scalp shows, so not VERY thin hair. I need to get a job to pay all these medical bills and have been told, at 50, I probably should dye it. What is safe on post chemo hair? Is there something you can use that will color the white but leave the black, so it looks like there are highlights and lowlights? I hated having just brown hair, so would get highlights put in when I got it colored, but I'm worried that would be WAY too harsh now. Oh, and I have some sort of rash around the nape of my hair. I think it might be from the night sweats tamoxifen is giving me. BTW have always had very sensative skin and scalp.

octogirl - mine looked pretty grey in the beginning but now that it's filling in quite a bit it's a lovely light brown!

Been a while since I've been on this site. It was truly a life saver when I was really in the thick of therapy. I'm 6 months PFC and hair is still slow slow slow at growing back but I have enough so that I don't feel like I have to wear anything. I HATED my wig, favorite thing were chemo beanies which I didn't find until the end. They're pre tied so you just pop them on and some have ruffles so you get a little lift. http://chemobeanies.com/product-category/all-chemo...

I had my 2nd "hair cut" last week and my hair lady said that it is really hard to color hair post chemo. Apparently it doesn't take color well at all. Did anyone else find that this is true? I love her and she's been through this with a lot of clients but I have found that everyone is so different. Hair's too short to color anyway.

1st photo with my fav chemo beanie, then October, Nov, Dec, Jan. Clearly I am obsessed with hair as I have felt the need to document! lol!!!!! May we all get the hair we want in the end!!!!! A_MEN!

I'm just over 4 months post chemo...

It started growing out the color of sewer rat. I used to be blonde. So now that I'm done with chemo and surgery and rads, I decided to hit the salon. The stylist had done other post chemo heads, and felt my hair was pretty healthy. So I let her fix the color. Take that you stupid cancer! ;)

KCinMN-I laughed at the sewer rat comment. Mine has grown back a mousy brown grey color. I hate it. I have been using a color conditioner on it every other day to darken it. I was going to get it dyed this week but have decided to wait. I am having surgery on Thursday so I won't be heading out much for a few weeks anyway. I will let it grow and I can have a new Boob and hair party when I am recovered

I'm so envious of you ladies going through the growing process instead of the losing process! I had my hair cut off this weekend as it was really shedding starting last Thursday (13 days post first TC infusion). It still looked thick but yesterday was the first time I saw a bare patch at the front. I debuted my wig yesterday and I think it's hastening the loss. My husband will shave my head this weekend ... words I never thought I'd utter.

So even though yesterday was wig day # 1, I was in court out of town so today was my first day at the office with it. I got many very nice and as far as I can tell sincere compliments on the look. Every little self-esteem boost helps on this icky journey

Paxton: (((((hugs))))) It is one of the hardest parts of the whole process, even if softened by compliments on your new wig. I certainly got those, and especially when they came from people who had no idea about the BC, it was a strange feeling. Tell your husband not to shave but to buzz your hair, though. Since chemo comes with greater susceptibility to infection, you want to avoid tiny nicks in the skin. But how great that he's doing it for you: an act of love, I'd say. Do you have a little cap to sleep in, by the way? I did, and for whatever reason, it felt very comforting.

Rebecca and KCinMN: Your hair looks great! I had a fair amount of sewer-rat hair in the beginning, and some of it went away. (Whew.)
