I am wondering if anyone whose had their hair change texture after chemo can say if it stayed that way or if it went back to the old texture.

Yesterday when I got home from work, I pulled off my beanie and was astounded at how much more hair has grown.

My hair was baby fine before chemo, and seems even finer now! It's a little lighter than it was before (this includes my eyebrows, which are coming in more quickly than I thought they would), but still strawberry blonde on top. It feels like it might be tending to wavy in the back.

I'm totally overestimating the amount of hair I have--I mean, it's only like 1/2 an inch long--but I'm EXCITED!

Peachy2 thanks for the welcome. I also have my birthday in June along with my daughters wedding the next day so really want some length to style by then. I will think happy hair growth along with you. Last year found my cancer just after my birthday so looking forward to a better June this year. I also finished chemo around the same time as you.

Great idea tjh on the cream - once I get more hair I will have to try it. I always had frizzy hair and straighten it every day. Hope maybe it comes back in straight.

Paxton- I am not sure about Aetna insurance, but I got a real human hair wig from LollysLocks. I applied and was an accepted recipient. It was a real human hair wig and was exactly the cut and color of my own hair. They said it was a $ 2000.00 wig. You can apply online. If you decide to buy one the price seems right. They are much more comfortable and can be worn for hours. I wore mine for almost 8 months. The real hair wigs are beautiful and I really loved mine. You can wash, color and style them just like your own hair. Google Shevys wigs or LollysLocks to get more information. Good luck and Godbless all of you losing your hair. It's hard but it grows back. I have a full head of thick hair and last year at this time nearly bald. 🙏

Sloan, Octogirl, El Tigre, Trvler and others who posted pics of hair, LOVE IT! Sloan your pics and tips were the best. You look adorable! I am week #11 of Taxol with one more to go so not post chemo yet. I have about 3/8 to 1/2 " of pure white fuzzy growth. Once it is a little longer I will post a pic. I am taking the powdered version of Biotin so sure hope it helps.

For those doing a wig, mine is really cute, looks real and I do get lots of compliments when I wear it. I tend to prefer headbands with hats or scarves when not in a work situation. My wigs are synthetic. Here are some pics. First one looks just like my hair before chemo. 2nd one is more blonde.

Valerie, love your photos! If you hadn't told us those were wigs I could not even tell. My 2 wigs are both quite different from my own hair as I was unable to find anything that looked close. Also I have a stack of Buffs which I have figured out several nice ways to wear. Almost 5 months after chemo so am eager to go wigless soon!

Lila-claire - Good. I hope the tips work for you. Great pictures. Your smile captures your positive attitude! I LOVE the wig. I would compliment you on your hair, too, as it looks so real. It's one of those wigs you will keep afterward!ine was synthetic, too. I didn't feel the need to spend extra money in one, and I'm going wig free now so I'm glad I didn't put a lot into it. Regarding the little white hairs.... In hindsight, I would have shaved off those little guys so my hair grew in the same length. I've just had to even things up as I go. Mine looked better on top (the thinnest part) when they were equal length. Good luck!

Duzy, we're in the same boat.

    Mysunshine, NICE!

My eyebrows are coming back, but guess what color they are? A combination of blonde and GRAY. At this point, it's more funny than anything else. . .

    Mysunshine- Looks great (and soft!).

I'm deciding whether to keep it salt and pepper, or color it. I'll let it grow for a few more months before I decide.

trvler - when my hair came back it was thick, wavy and black - I LOVED IT.. best hair I ever had..so easy to fix and keep short .. after about a year it got lighter brown, straight and thinner .. in other words, it was like my pre-treatment hair.. I continue to take biotine and think its getting thicker after 3 yrs.. I still keep it short but not as short as I did when it first came in..imageimage

My Sunshine and Iamnancy looks great. Thanks for sharing. It helps to see pictures and encouragement on this thread

Kateb79 we can pray to the hair gods together. It's amazing how much I want to just be done with my wig or scarves. Not sure how long before I have enough guts to go without. Being in Michigan in the winter though helps with the warmth from the hats and so on

Hope everyone has a great day

Well every day is a new day for my hair. It has a mind of its own. This growing it out is going to test my patience. I'm glad to have hair covering my head so I try not to complain. I can tell it gets longer every day.

Kate-my eyebrows are a mixture of white and dark too. The white ones are kinda crazy and grow in different directions.

Just because I haven't posted this in a while. This is for the Newbies. My hair growth diary. Note my hair always grew pretty fast although a little slower on Herceptin. Started from a week before treatment (surgery first), then day it fell out I cut it short, etc. Dates in lower corner.

    Your wigs look great Valerie!

Sloan, I've been meaning to thank you also for the tips on getting your smooth hair look and I cannot wait to try it just as soon as I get my hands on foaming wrap lotion! Your "before" picture looks very similar to what I've got!

Justmaximom…I applaud you and your new freedom!!

Trvler…wow you have a lot of hair! I'm 8 mo PFC and you're way ahead of me. But my last Herceptin was today, so maybe I'll get a growth spurt! :)

I am 12 weeks post chemo and things are barely laying down.I went to my daughters science fair. My wig is just to hot now with all the hot flashing. I think I am done with the wig. It is my avatar and I like it but So tired of it.

Thank you all for you kind comments about my wigs! I actually feel rather normal when I wear one but can't wait for the freedom of NOTHING. On my head!

Queen Celeste, I love my Buffs too> sometimes I put mine in a scrunchie so it looks like a ponytail!

Sloan, I have wondered about trimming my hair to start even instead of all these strange random long hairs! But I hate to cut a single hair that is finally growing. Has anyone else done this?

Peachy and Duzy thanks for comments about my jewelry, sometimes I might overdo but I do love my necklaces. I made the one in the first pic, love to work with wire.

My Sunshine I love your thick white hair! I think that's how I will look too. I have colored my hair for years so likely will continue as I don't know if I'm brave enough to come out white! I may post and get other opinions.

I am Nancy - how interesting your hair came out black then turned brown! You look beautiful. I would love mine to grow out dark, no chance.

Southern, look at how beautiful you are! Love the emerging fuzzier too.

Exercise guru your growth looks so even and pretty!

I read a study in the UK about using essence oils as a scalp rub/massage to stimulate hair growth> I will try to find the link. I had my massage therapist mix the oils for me to see if it will help. It feels great and smells good! It contains Lavendar , cedar wood, thyme linalool, and rosemary in grape seed and hempseed oils. It sure can't hurt!

    Have a great weekend everyone

Lila-claire -Yes, trim those hairs! I didn't cut them off and regretted it. I thought it would make my hair look longer or filled in, but I was wrong. I trimmed them when I noticed how scraggly they were, but playing catch up was definitely harder. Cut them off. Besides, they are probably white and brittle anyway, right?

Exercise-guru - Wow, it's coming in so thick and even! Mine is thicker on the sides than the crown, but once it filled in, I went wigless, too. Hurray for you!
