brithael you look great! Here's me at 22 weeks. My hair was wavey before, so the back is nothing new...

Please pass the word that I posted pictures of a wig in the Free cycle forum. It is a really nice one and I want to pass it on to someone in need!

Oh brithael!!! I like that you have "bangs"!!! I am just over 29 weeks PFC and still feel like I have NO BANGS! I can't take it!!
Logang - we look pretty similar...especially the back with the wave!
I have pictures posted on here pages back when I was just starting to get some growth. I have to take some more and update you all.

Finished chemo Aug 28th. Herceptin till April. My hair started growing back before last chemo. About an inch long now. But now my scalp has broken out in bumps and itches. Even on my forehead below my hairline. Scalp gets really oily, too. Anybody run into this?

Maryann! I put what you said about bangs as my Facebook status one day lol. My hair has always been thick and that sure didn't change. It feels like it had a little growth spurt tho. All of a sudden I had roots! Or maybe it's that shampoo that the Marc Anthony company gave me, supposed to help with growth
I may have kept my colour had it come in similiar but it came in black and salt, not the brown I had which I always dyed blonde as I was always a blonde when younger. My family was shocked too. I knew I had the grey though. Had it been all grey I would have kept that for sure. I love touching my hair, it's so soft!
It's funny everyone tells me I should keep it short...they like it and say it suits me. I still fell naked without longer hair! I don't think I could get used to it. Time will tell, just let me have bangs!
Jerri, sorry I can't help you with any advice really. I had the odd bump which felt like an ingrown hair but it would go away. I use a sulfrate free shampoo...don't know if that helps?

Has anybody used any of the Nioxin products to regrow hair after chemo? I have 6 more Taxol treatments but I do have some tiny new hair starting to grow now. Quite a bit actually, but it is only about 1/16" long. Someone told me that the Nioxin products will make it grow faster. I wasn't sure because I haven't finished chemo yet. Thoughts anyone?

I think I've heard that too Seq24, I bought something, but now I don't remember the name. I haven't used anything yet- just had my (fingers crossed) last chemo today. So now I will focus on hair once I'm up for it! I know some of you have said you use oils? I'm sure I can scroll back for all the suggestions lol, but it's pages long!

Seq, I've tried it in the past to try and thicken my hair. It didn't really do much but also, it was so much work putting on all the stuff like the root stimulator, that I gave up. I was also looking at Ovation Cell Therapy, but I'm not sure it would be much different. I think what will help the most is patience (which is not my strong suite).

AJBclan--I went ahead and ordered Nioxin system 2 on the recommendation of someone in a salon I talked to and a friend who used it with success. It was $44 at the salon and $20.74 on Amazon. I guess it can't hurt to try it.
I was also told by a friend and Dara (from this board) to use Jamaican Black Castor Oil to speed up hair growth. Also got that on Amazon and it was not very expensive. I put it on every other night or so. It is kind of messy and I need to cover my head at night to keep it off of my pillow. I don't know if it's coincidence or not but it's after I started using the oil that I started seeing the new hair growth. It's very short but it's there and there is quite a bit, although it is fine
Now for my next question, since I still have 6 rounds of Taxol to go, is the new hair I have going to fall out by the end? I've heard of so many that experience new hair growth while still on Taxol, but have not heard if it actually stays or not.

jerrijohnson- I also had my scalp break out in itchy bumps. It was folliculitis. My MO called in a prescription for metronidazole, which cleared it right up.

LimnoGal, thank you! Getting worried I was going through puberty again! Once was enough.

I have hair all over my head. A good 2 inches but no bangs. Will they ever return? I'm grateful for what I have, but really miss my bangs.

I miss my bangs too....I had a hat on today since it's so cold and it looked like I had a little bit of bangs because my hair was flat

i have an event saturday and will see many I've not seen since my dx. I was thinking I would wear a wig to protect myself from the 'i love your new haircut' or i've had some ask if i'd ever get all my hair back. Don't know if I have my big girl pants on enough to put up with it all. thoughts?

Valstim, honestly, I find that the comments come no matter what you do. (though granted, I always used hats and scarves, not a wig.). Even now, more than a year PFC, people comment on my curls: "oh your hair is so cute, did you have a new perm?" that type of thing. Objectively, it is cute. Personally, I hate it anyway, because of what it reminds me of...
so, my take these days is to just smile and say 'thanks' or 'yes, thanks', or even "oh, glad you like it'. If they ask multiple questions I try and change the subject. Only once have a felt a need to explain, but even then I only gave the minimum facts/story. I've come to the conclusion that I owe no one explanations.

Valstim, I was the crazy woman who wore a wig forever because I hated the way my hair was coming in. Still do; I've had long hair all my adult life, and I really hate this short layered stuff. Hats are your friend: I wear them whenever I appear in public these days, and I find they draw attention away from my hair. Hats are stylish, especially if you tilt the brim a bit.
Hats were a big thing on Downton Abbey, the show that saved my sanity during chemo. And from Downton Abbey I learned that if you wear a hat in public, you don't have to worry about how your hair looks.
There may be a time when I'm ready to appear hatless in public, but for now, hats save me an awful lot of unwanted attention.

Thanks so much ladies. I have some really nice hats, and a dressy one. Think i'll be doing that or my wig.

6 months of reading through every single page in this thread has kept me great company during my chemo! I want to thank all ladies (and the few gentlemen) for posting pictures, kind words and encouragement. With my chemo, surgery and most of rads behind me, I am joining you ladies because I wanted to give newcomers to this thread a timeline of my hair growth. I'm not going to lie, seeing my bald head every day was nerve wrecking… What helped me was reading about all of you going through this, seeing your progress over the years and helping each other stay positive. Thank you all!
My hair started growing 7 weeks into Taxol! Top came in later for me. 9/29 was the first week PFC. I am now 12 weeks PFC and have started going topless. It's cold but oh so great....only had 2 sliiiiight trims to even it out.
Throughout my treatment I wore wigs or bandanas. Most days I hated it, especially on hot summer days but I did enjoy having different lenths and cuts to choose from. I'll donate my wigs and hats this week (right before Christmas), planning on going to work with my new "chemo cut" after New Year's I actually love the short hair and looking forward to chemo curls. Hair, ladies. ...I finally have hair.0 -
BlueCharlotte-

Bluecharlotte- great pics! Thanks! I just finished chemo (fingers crossed) last week, starting to think about the hair and I have surgery looming. Did you do anything "special" to help the hair along? I know some folks are using oils, my MO said I could take Biotin.....still not feeling sure I'm totally out of the woods from any more chemo, but will try and be hopeful!

Hi ladies! When did hair loss start for those of you that had TCHP chemo? Is it comparable to AC+T (~ 14 days after first treatment). Did you loose all your hair at once?
0 -
ajbclan I am taking biotin once a day, the generic costco pills. I started after my final chemo, not sure how much it helped with the hair but my nails are doing great! I also use the curly girl method, i.e. sulfate free shampoo and conditioner in case I do get chemo curls.
Logang thanks! Merry Christmas to you too!

Look at you, Myraknits! Just a couple of days ago I saw your post about the purple hair it's very long already considering you're on Hereptecin. And you're wearing your handmade earrings, looks great!

Looking Great Myra! I think I have 6 more Herceptin to go! Just had my hair bleached for the 2nd time, no cut at all, not even a tiny bit! It's so soft! Will be so nice to get these Herceptin done and move on. I have the blahs now that I hope go away soon! I will get earrings once I catch up after getting only partial pay for so long!!!

BlueCharlotte--You are beautiful!!! Thanks so much for sharing your photos. I'm getting close to the end of Taxol (Jan 20). I have quite a bit of new hair growing already. My head feels like a porcupine at the moment. Were any of the photos you posted taken while you were still on Taxol? Mine is about 1/8" long now. Just wondering how long it might be by the time I am done. I started noticing new hair somewhere around #4 or 5. I'm having #8 on Friday so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Did any of the new hair you got fall out again before you finished chemo?
