5 years ago I started using an amonia free non permanent dye about 6 weeks PFC. I had no adverse affects at all and because my hair came in more gray than I remembered because I coloured it for years, it actually made it look like I had a little more hair and made me feel a little better. Cheaper than going to the hairdresser too. I didn't get it done professionally until about a year later to get a trim up (herceptin slowed down the progress). He did still use the non amonia formula on me for at least another 6 months after that. Then I started highlighting

smile I asked my mo at my 4 month pfc checkup when I could dye and with what type of color. He gave the ok for permanent dye immed. I would check with your docs to be sure. I also was a beautiful dark silver grey and dyed brown after years of heavy hilighting my dark brown hair blonde. Now I professionally color every 8 weeks. Also as far as brow and lashes go mine grew in 3weeks after treatment ended. I have not used mascara in 1 year and also have let my brows come in naturally with resisting the urge to overpluck.

    Myra your pics are lovely.

Serenity and Shopgal, thanks so much. I appreciate it. Chemo took so much out of me and when I look at myself now with those heavy bags under my eyes I can't help but feel like I've aged 10 years in the last one.

I'm hoping the bags go away at some point but I think they may be here to stay

hello, not sure what PFC means? But my last chemo was November 10 my eyebrows and eyelashes hung on Up until the end. But three weeks later they were gone :0

My eyelashes and brows are coming back but my hair is still in what I call the "chicken fluff stage"... when does the real hair start coming in!!?

Casun19--PFC means post final chemo. I can't wait till I can say I am PFC. 2 more weeks!

I am not sure I am the best qualified to answer your hair question as I have asked the same things. I can share my experience so far with you though. I also did AC and have had 10 of 12 Taxol treatments. I kept some of my original hair after AC. More of it came out at the beginning of Taxol then it stopped. About the 5th or 6th Taxol treatment I noticed the "chicken fluff" coming in. It looked very blonde (not grey) and was all over my head. It is now about 1/4" long and the sides are now turning dark, which is my natural hair color. Top is still blonde. I might be the next Cruella DeVille with the two tone look. LOL. I did talk to the nurse at infusion today. She told me that real hair could start coming in at anytime, but it's usually just the fuzzy stuff for a month or two after your last chemo. Also, it could come back a totally different color and texture than it was. She told me about her aunt who had a full head of grey hair and after chemo it came back red. I read somewhere that chemo takes the pigment out of your hair for awhile. I'm hoping that is my case and it eventually all is the same color.

I still have my lashes but my brows have thinned by half. I heard once they start coming back they come back fast. I'm waiting for that day.

Good luck and post again about the return of your hair!

    Myra - I completely understand.

Casun - It varies. My real hair started growing about 5 wks PFC. You can look on previous pages at what people have posted. My progress pics are on page 804.

Myra you look beautiful! I am 14 weeks PFC, I've had my hair trimmed twice, and had it colored 3 weeks ago....my hair dresser specializes in cancer patients. All of her products are free of parabens, sulfites, phylates, ammonia, & PPDS very gentle on hair and scalp. I have had a ton of compliments and it's funny how people love the short hair thing but lets face it no one wants to chop all of their hair for one of those chic styles. Initial hair colowoth a great deal of gray which I didn't have before chemo but is completely normal in the chemo world.

Short hair is time to play with color, make up, accessories...have fun with it. Holding you all close to my heart.

SerenitySTAT- thank you that helps! I am 8 weeks out and just getting impatient...

seq24 - I will keep you posted about my hair. I lost most my hair during AC and Taxol took the rest away.. (except the lashes and brows like I mentioned, which fell out later). I did dose dense treatment which was every other week 4 AC 4 taxol. Not sure if that has something to do with it? But So far it's the fluff and some dark patches on the back of my head but not the top... hoping it will fill in. Good luck on the rest of your treatments.

I am 3 months PFC and my hair is very short but unruly. Any suggestions on products to taming it.....

I refuse to cut it. Hang in there ladies everyone says it's just hair, but I find it to be a constant reminder

When my hair was first coming back in I used to put some gel or wax in it right out of the shower and then put on a tight cap, usually one of my chemo caps that I used to stay warm while sleeping. About 30 mins to an hour later I'd take it off an my hair would be nice and straight and flat. Then I got chemo curl. Now I do a similar thing. I use a towel to compress my hair out of the shower. I wrap the head in a towel while I dry off and do my other necessities including eyebrows. :-). I did a bunch of research blind and found a curly hair product made for curly hair. If you want the name message me. So intake the gel or the lotion that I choose for the day. I pull the towel off, not rubbing the hair or 'towel drying' it. I shake the curls loose by shaking my head a few times and then add the lotion. I put about. Quarter size dollop in my hands rub it around and then scrunch my curls. The less you manipulate them the less frizz. Enjoy your new hair. There will be lots of new styles to try.

Debbie, I was glad to see your post on hair growth after Tamoxifin. On BreastCancer.org, there were 3 categories RE: hair regrowth: Chemo, Whole Brain Radiation, and Tamoxifin. Then, as soon as I started chemo, I had all these legal suit ads on permanent hair loss from Tamoxifin pop up! I ended chemo of Tamoxifin / Cytoxin on December 22, 2016 and the crown is the baldest. It's hopeful to see that even your crown filled in eventually. Any other stories on Tamoxifin and hair growth?

As soon as I started chemo, I had all these law suit ads pop up on permanent hair loss from Taxotere (or maybe they were always there but I never noticed them!) I ended chemo of Taxotere/Cytoxin on December 22, 2016 and the crown is the baldest. It would be hopeful to see if even your crown filled in eventually. Can anyone say more about hair growth after Taxotere?

What happened since then, Artsee? Do you remember when your hair was at a point that you could go hatless/wigless? I just finished with Taxotere and Cytoxin less than 3 weeks ago and am so eager to get rid of all that gear!

My last chemo was 12th January 2016 and it was the end of April before I went without head coverings in public. My hair was still very, very short; like a buzz cut and it was still quite obvious that I was a cancer patient.

Smurfette26...I'm almost 8 months pfc and still wearing my wig. No bald spots, just doesn't look like i chose to style my hair short. I've always worn bangs and at the moment I have none. When did your hair begin to look "non cancer patient"

Smurfette, I'm 13 weeks PFC with Taxotere. My hair is coming in but very slowly. I lost my lashes and brows several weeks post chemo but at least my lashes are coming back quickly. Here's my pic just a couple of minutes ago. It's actually a tad longer in the back.

I am eight months PFC. I started going hatless in public around the end of October. I have had my hair trimmed around the sides and back twice to keep it looking like an intentional pixie instead of post-chemo outgrowth. I get lots of compliments on it, but I CANNOT WAIT to have long hair again. I miss it.

Wendi...so cute. I would never think you were post chemo patient. I'm right with you as far as time pfc, but my hair just doesn't have the body you have. Still waiting until I feel comfortable. I might go for a haircut this week.

I am about 7 1/2 months PFC. Also still on Herceptin until April. Have not had a cut at all but coloured twice.

Always had thick hair and it still is! The top took the longest to come in

Logang & Karen...can't believe your hair. Looks great. I'be always had baby fine hair (but a lot of it). At eight months pfc my hair is so fine it has no body at all. There are no bald spots but i can't style it at all. I know now that it will be a full year before i will comfortable without a wig.

I just couldn't wear my wigs, they were too hot and uncomfortable. When I went back to work I had my hair coloured and added a purple splash in it so it looked like a choice rather than chemo. Colouring it also gave it more body. I use a cream to keep it somewhat in place. Pics above were not my going out hair lol.

imageI am 10 months PFC. Was on Herceptin so it came back slow. Have been going without the wig since August and it was obvious the cut was not intended, but I was too hot to care! It is still pretty thin on the top in back, but is also more see through because it is so white.

Thanks to everyone who posted pictures! It gives me hope. I am 14 weeks PFC and have about an inch of hair sticking out everywhere! I have always colored my hair, so it grew back gray and very white in front. I was wondering what coloring options everyone chose. Have been looking at organic hair color, but not sure how effective it is. I just want to look in the mirror and see me, not the cancer girl of the past 7 months!

I can't remember if I have asked this before but has anyone ever had, or heard of anyone who has had hair extensions after chemo? I have 2 more treatments. My hair is growing back and is about 1/4" long now. I have heard that extensions can be put in with an inch of hair. I know it's expensive, but I just want to look like myself again. My hair grows very very slow and it will be a few years until it gets back to shoulder length again. I don't want to be reminded for that long that I was a cancer patient. I called the American Cancer Society to see if they had any local resources for extensions. They basically told me they had never heard of such a thing and said they couldn't help. There is a salon in Minneapolis that specializes in chemo hair extensions but that is a very long way from here and traveling there is not feasible. I'd love to hear if anyone has any thoughts.
