Look at you Myra!! Looking fantastic. I remember when we were stressing together about our slow growing hair. YOu go girl. Blue Charlotte how lovely you are. To all others what a great group of ladies we are. I'm moved to post a pic, as soon as I figure it out

Myraknits, that's good hair growth for 6 months pfc with herceptin, looking good!
I am 7 months pfc, also on herceptin and my eyelashes seem to be falling out ;(( I hope it stops shedding soon, wasn't expecting this so long pfc

Thanks everybody for the kind words! I donated the wigs and wig stands at my local cancer support center, they were so happy I feel much better now, giving away the "security blanket" will help me find a new normal hair-wise I think.
seq24 yes, my hair started growing around taxol #7 (should be right around the first photo above), all the photos without dates on them were taken weekly after noticing a stubble. The first one with a date is 1 week PFC and so on. My hair didn't thin or fall out once it started growing but my brows and lashes did. They've grown back now though, seemingly overnight.Do you still have your lashes and brows?

Hi Ladies. I haven't been on this board for about 4 years now. Long story short, was DX Stage IV to liver and lung in July. Had a full response to radiation and chemo. Then it was highly recommended that I do 10 PCI's (Prophy Cranial Irridation) to cut the risk of brain mets by 60%. So finished that last week and my nice 1 inch or so of regrowth is going with the wind (litterally). My scalp is quite red and itchy and it feels the same when I was on Taxol 5 years ago. That all being said, does anyone know if I can start using Nigoxin once everything settles down with my scalp in like a month?

BlueCharlotte--Thanks for sharing. As of now I still have my lashes. My brows have thinned some but are not gone but I do have to fill in the bare spots. I started noticing stubble on my head around the 4th or 5th taxol, so about 3 weeks ago. I noticed new hair growing on the top first. It's strange. What's coming in there has no color so far. The sides are just now coming back and although there is no length to the hair yet, it looks like I have dark shadows on the sides that is the color of my normal hair. It's kind of hard to tell anything though because I didn't lose all my hair and I didn't shave my head. I still have some my old hair between the new hair. One of the nurse practitioners that I see told me that if it doesn't fall out by the end of Taxol, it would likely start growing again. When I wear my wig I use the old, longer hair to bobby pin the wig to. Thanks again for sharing your photos!

I am now 8 months pfc. Very satisfied with my hair, but my eyebrows have been falling out in cycles since the end of chemo. Same with my lashes. Is this normal?
I look like I've waxed them to a thin line, and I've not waxed or plucked in a year.

Myleftboob, so sorry you're going through this again! We always hope that once we're done, we're done, but I guess the disease has a mind of it's own. I"m glad you're back for support although you're probably more knowledgeable than any of us. I wish I knew about the nigoxin, but would just ask your MO. Mine didn't want me even taking Biotin during treatment, but also each doctor is different. Let us know if we can help in any long distance way!

Here's my hair for all of looking at this monster thread. Two years ago I was nearly bald at Christmas, about 3 months pfc. It grew back wavy curly and NOT gray, after 20 years of coloring I now no longer have to - which is very weird at 51. Hope you all have a blessed holiday season, keep on keeping on, I know how much reading the hair, hair, hair thread got from me! Pictures were the best

Bow1965--thanks for sharing! That is encouraging to me. I'm not quite done with chemo yet and am seeing some new growth already. I hope I am as lucky as you to have it grow back as thick and beautiful as yours. And to not color would be wonderful!! I've been doing it for years too. Funny thing is that the hair coming in on top doesn't seem to have any color. The sides are dark like my normal hair which is about the color as yours.
Myleftboob--Are you referring to Nioxin products? If so, I am already using them now, before chemo is done. As soon as I started seeing new hair I got some and I just reordered more of the scalp conditioner today. I have Nioxin shampoo and conditioner as well. Just FYI it is half the price on Amazon as it is at salons. NP told me today I could start taking biotin too if I want but she didn't think it would do any good till chemo is done. She also mentioned that the hair I had coming in now was just superficial and only fuzz. I bet to differ. It has grown double the length since I noticed it about 3 weeks ago and definitely is not fuzzy. Feels prickly like a porcupine kind of like my husbands hair when he gets a buzz cut.

Valstim52 yes it seems like periodical thinning of brows and lashes after chemo is normal. They all come in at the same time after chemo. Others on this board have reported thinning every 3 months for a while if I remember correctly. Apparently lashes and brows renew every 3 months, so when they all come in at once after chemo they will also renew at the same time. This should normalise at some point later on.

Seg24. Oh my goodness, yes Nioxin. I guess I should have looked at the label LOL. I got a great deal from a friend who works for a distributor up here $35 for a huge shampoo and conditioner. I used it as well right after chemo in 2012 and right through Herceptin. I think it helped but H kept the growth at a snails pace. Once that was done though it was off to the races. My a year and a half my hair was what you see in my pic. I did a different chemo cocktail though this time around and the hair got really thin but it didn't all fall out. My MO was kind of amazed. Finally though about a month after I was done I cut all the longer strands off it looked so haggish. This time though with radiation II just don't want to irritate my scalp if I use it too early. I'm practically bald again after 10 TX and I didn't even finish a week ago. Sore and itchy like a sunburn. I have a great wig but they really are uncomfortable. The 2nd I;m in the door off it comes. Much like I did before.
I've left the same question for the ladies on the brain mets thread which I feel weird asking such a vain question in light of their DX but I know the majority have had full brain radiation. I know this is really a chemo thread I just that perhaps someone might have gone through the same TX. They've been so helpful though with all my rad related questions for sure.
I almost forgot about the BIotin though. I did take that the last go around. thanks for the reminder!
Bow1965. Wowsa that's a good head of hair!
DaraB Yeah it was quite a shock to me for sure. I thought I was having an allergic reaction to something my face and neck were totally swollen. Went to the local ER and the doc suspected liver mets and wanted me to come back for a CT scan (they had done an ultrasound). I decided the following day to call my MO at a different hospital and he told me to come in through the ER there. The ER doc took one look at me and said a liver issue of any kind woudn't cause this and that it had to be my chest, CT'd me and I had a 7cm tumor on my heart blocking the blood from flowing back down like it's supposed to. The consider it lung mets though. They're were some minor liver mets which I guess was a blessing were noticed but truly I could hav suffered a fatal heart attack had I not called my MO. He said it was a miracle I didn't arrest. So at least I was treated for both and had a full response. Now scans every 3 months
The only thing I can add to anyone dealing with hair loss and regrowth is lots of protien, tons of water, nioxin, and time. If meat isn't going down so well (it didn't for me during chemo either). Chia puddings are quite nice and easy to make and no cook. (tons of recipes on Pinterest. Eggs, Protien shakes (stay away from Soy Based ones though if your ER+). beans, chicken and fish

Just a question for all of you who have finished chemo or are getting close to the end. When your hair first started coming back in, was it your normal hair color? I have not finished chemo yet. 4 more weeks of Taxol. But I have lots of new, very soft and fine hair growing and it seems to be growing fairly fast, which I am so happy about. Some of it is probably getting close to 1/4". However, my normal hair is medium to dark brown and what's coming in is colorless. It's not grey (I had very little grey to start with anyway) but looks more blonde, as in very blonde. I read somewhere that new hair doesn't develop any color until later on but then I also read somewhere else that it's highly likely the hair will stay the same color it is coming in as now. What have your experiences been?

seq24, my early hair was very blond and fine, but it wasn't long before it really took off and darkened. My hair is a little darker than usual, but I didn't have any hair to lighten up in the sun this year! Happy growing!

seg 24. I found that once I was done Herceptin, my hair started to grow at it's normal pace prior to chemo so about 1/2 inch per month or perhaps a little more. It came in the same salt and pepper and texture too. I do have a wave to my hair so it was a bit curly until it got longer. When it was a few inches long I used a very small straightner I found at Wallmart to try to tame it until I could get a round brush small enough to smooth it when drying.

Nah, I have coloured my hair for a long time so I'm not sure what the natural colour would have been...a reddish brown of some sort if I could have tolerated it. That said, the first growth after chemo was that fine white whispy hair that I think most of us get. Those little baby hairs trying to grow back from the folicles getting over the shock of the chemo. I actually shaved most of them off for a job interview and then let it grow in after... it came in brown salt and peppery in about February/March. I've since coloured it.

After the initial lighter hair mine came in salt and pepper. I have alway had lighter hair. I knew the grey was there but the black I have never had. I would have expected a brown colour. I bleached it all 5 month PFC and have done it again since. I had a slight wave to my hair also but now it's coming in very wavy...once it gets longer I will also straighten it. I have 5 more Herceptin to go and I hope it growsfaster after that.

Has anyone tried the Rodan and Fields Lash boost to help with regrowing of eyelashes

Hi all,
Hair With A Cause can match your original color and provide Hair Extensions after chemo. Please see our before and afters.

Hair with a cause--could you please provide more information on your program. I am seriously considering extensions as soon as my hair is long enough. Thank you.

seq24, Hair-With-A-Cause is really not permitted to advertise on our site. However, we will leave it for now, as maybe some will learn about this option. It looks as though this business is in Los Angeles, CA. You may want to ask your treatment team if they know of people doing this who are local to you, unless you are indeed in the LA area.

Hello ladies, when did you color your hair - how many weeks PFC or how long was new hair - and what product did you use ?
My hair is coming in grey - salt and pepper- but it is perhaps more grey than it used to be (Ive colored my hair the last 20 years so I don't remember how grey I was, maybe half grey?). Half of my brows are gone but each one differently - one brow has gotten half thin while still maintaining the length, the other one is slightly thin throughout the length, however the part closer to the nose is completely gone . It's a pain to fill them or color them ..

Smilethrupain,
I started recoloring 3 mos PFC and I use Herbatint which I really like! I used to use Garnier and it just seems too strong now. Too many chemicals. So the Herbatint does a nice job and there are a lot of colors. It lasts about 2 months without fading and it still looks good. Havent recolored since November. My brows are shot. I used to have spectacular brows but they thinned so much I have to pencil them in to make it look like I have any. I'm 6 mos PFC and not much has grown back yet but I'm still on Herceptin through March so that may have something to do with it.

Myraknits, thanks for the recommendation. Does it have good grey coverage?

Smile, - Clairol Natural Instincts is also good!

My Hairdresser advised me to wait 6 months after chemo before colouring and then to use ammonia free dyes. In the meantime I used a tinted shampoo which worked well.
