Dianarose, I have only one wig but only wore it twice. My insurance wouldn't cover a good wig so I tried the free one from American Cancer Society and then just gave up. Now it is headscarves, coverings etc., all the way. I have dressed them up with a pin or broach when going out and I have also have sewn one with a pattern for a tichel (israeli head cover) I see some people do a double take, possibly trying to figure out if I am covering for religious reasons. Not sure of you'd want to go that root but there is a site modli.com that sells lovely ones. Good luck!

I watch The Americans and am amazed at some of their wigs. I hated wearing a wig myself.
Dianarose - For the wedding, how about a nice spring hat?

Sorella- I you sure it's modli.com?
Sorenity- been looking st some hats. I really would just rather not go.

Dianarose - I would not go. I didn't got to my nephew's wedding last summer during my Taxol treatment. I had no energy and didn't want to fly to Texas. You could still get a hat to protect your head over the summer.

I loved my wig. It is a Christie Brinkley wig called Uptown Girl. I had more than a couple of ladies ask me where I get my hair cut while I was wearing it!

serenity, I've had the same question about their wigs! And how does she get all that natural hair under a short wig?

I know! I would have liked her last wig for myself. Their wig people should make a tutorial.

LMV-just to add my 2 cents worth about hair color turning your hair orange. When mine was long enough to color I was going to do it myself. I tested a tiny area of hair right by my temple. Good thing I tried it first. That little bit turned bright orange. I called my hair dresser and asked her to color it professionally. I told her what happened and she said that the developer I used was not a high enough volume. I used 20. She said I needed 10. That's what she used and it came out fine. No orange, but it was much lighter than the color she used. She put on some kind of a glaze and it was perfect. One thing I've noticed is that the color has not lasted as long as it should. I had this done 3 weeks ago today and I can already see lots of fading and some grey showing through again.

This is one. The color I have is called cocoa latte and it a bit lighter than this. I have another that is about the same length but with bangs.

Thanks seq24, I'll show that to my stylist. When I first had it colored in November, it came out dark red, then bright orange when I asked her to make it a blonde color. I was 4 months PFC when I first had it colored, and am now 9 MO's PFC. But, I had to take a drug for a lupus reaction to radiation, and it may be considered a chemo too.

docmama- sent you a private message but not sure it went through. I will take the wig and pay the postage. It's so much cuter then the ones I have

I had also bought a Christie Brinkley wig that was only about $115 and was just as good as the $500 ones I bought. Just know that sometimes you need to have an out of the box trimmed for you. And they need to have a razor cut as opposed to a scissors. Diana, you also asked about the tichel site. I used one a lot and also bought the small padded underlap to give my head some volume. The site I used was Wrapunzel.com. They have so many beautiful scarves and great tutorials on simple to really elaborate scarf wraps. Their prices are super reasonable. (I didn't know what a tichel was before bc )

Thanks Dara, going to look at that sit

Oh, and Diana, or anyone else. I also found that I absolutely hated all my wigs at first. The one in my picture as well as a couple others, took quite a few tries to find the best way to put it on. Make sure you use an undercap (I actually have a light cotton terry one) and then I also got a package of those wide stretchy headbands. The headband was the very best discovery for me. Before I used them, I'd get terrible headaches, the wig was itchy and hot and didn't feel secure. You might want to try this. Good luck. If not try a really pretty scarf. Cali had a wedding last summer and posted a picture of the scarf she wore and she looked really beautiful. Maybe you could find her picture or PM her to see what she did.
I just hate that BC takes so much from us and then could take special family memories like weddings from us as well.

I used a gel band wig gripper. It kept the wig securely on my head and I didn't have any problems with itching. The one I had was also heat resistant, so you could style it with gentle heat if necessary.

Dianarose, I got that wrong, it is https://modli.co
I think you should only go to the wedding if you really want to be there for you. Otherwise, you have a pass and should use it. I had to decide what to push myself to do based on cheering myself up during chemo. I skipped my favorite xmas party and felt it was what I needed to do. Sure I felt sad but hey. . .par for this course! I believe in being positive but honesty about the weight of what we are going through is as important.

My hair started growing very slowly, about a month after last chemo, and it was WHITE!!! I was devastated...i am 40, only had a few grays before this. It was very thin too and i ended up sgaving it off again hoping for a better result...to my amazment it worked...its coming in dark brown like it should be. Now my last chemo was end of August and I dont have much hair, you csn see my profile pic, thats a month ago. It seems to have slowed way down again...i havnt had to shave legs in weeks, so im not sure why or whats going on. I am going to ask at my appt next week.

Froglover- the time I did chemo before this time my leg hair didn't grow for two years. Enjoy that part of it. My hair started growing before I was done Taxol and now it's very slow also. Hair normally only grows a half inch a month so I guess we just have to wait. I still have some shiny spots on top 😆

My husband found this British site so thought I would share http://cancerhaircare.com

Should I do something fun while I still have my hair for a few weeks? I start chemo in four days so it's looking like I'll lose my hair in 3-4 weeks. I'm kind of think that I should go shorter--as a next step--and do some major, fun highlights until it all falls out. I don't color my hair nor have ever paid much attention to it as it's just easy and natural. Good idea or no?

I don't think I posted any hair photos last week so here it is at 11 weeks pfc. Still pretty awful looking in my opinion. And a little messy because I had just taken off the wig right before these were taken

I wanted to post about my hair color as a follow up. My last chemo was 7/14/16, I had it colored the weekend before Thanksgiving and it came out a dark red, as it was growing in a mousy brown color with some grey. Had it dyed two more times, both times it came out red when she was shooting for light brown and then a blonde color.
This time, she used Goldwell's 8SB and it worked to get rid (mostly) of the red. She had to redo a couple of spots but it is better than it was. Hope this helps someone else.

Thanks Sorella, I checked out the site and liked the whole feel of the site. It was great that they said so long as our hair is healthy and probably about an inch long, it's fine to color it with a gentle color.
Seq, I am amazed how much more hair you have now. It's filling in well over all the head.
When people ask me now how the hair is coming along, I just say I'm doing the Judy Dentch look. But not ready to go bare headed yet. Maybe by June or July... I know as it gets hotter her I'll want to try to go witless.
JL, go for it! What have you got to lose? (Sorry, couldn't resist.) Whether you go shorter or not, I think the fun highlights sound fun and may perk your spirits up a bit. I did go with a friend and try on a wig or two before you lose all the hair. I bought one, but then never wore it until after I'd finished both chemo and radiation.
Is the top of anyone's scalp tender? Mine is still quite sensitive, similar to before the hair came out. I"m kind of constantly feeling it or pulling on the top, running my fingers through it, so maybe it's my own fault. Just wondered.

Looking good seq, much better than I am a couple of weeks ahead of you since last full chemo treatment. I have a bit of filling in on the sides starting to feel like something, but the rest is so fuzzy, light, and thin/short there's no coverage of my bare skin. Not at all close to feeling like I could go out in public sans wig or cap/scarf.
In time, I guess. It is visibly better than it was a few weeks ago so trying with mixed success to be patient and thankful for continuing if slooooooooow progress.

Is it OK to talk about pubic hair?
I always thought as I got older my "bush" was curly, light black and just the perfect amount of hair. I thought it was cute.
After chemo I was a bald as a baby's butt. I learned that hair helps with the direction of urination. I peed all over my thighs with out hair and ended up carrying wipes and extra underwear in my purse forever.
Now, the hair is coming back. It is black and very straight. It is also higher on my tummy. Really, God? Higher on my tummy? Is this a joke?
Any comments / thoughts?
Coach Vicky

Coachvicky, so maybe the higher public hair will meet the new hair on our chins in the middle and we'll have hair on our chests

Mine never grew back from chemo four years ago. Leg hairs are starting though. Wish the hair on my head was that agg

Coach Vicky, isn't it ironic that our pubic hair comes back straight while the hair on our head is super curly! BC gods have a whacked sense of humor! My leg hair grew back right away but no underarm hair and my eyebrows are still mostly missing. Pretty strange.
