Took my two granddaughters to Taco Bell the other day just for a quick taco asit was mid afternoon and I didn't want to give them a big meal because it was so close to supper time. I told them before we went in that we weren't going to get drinks as we'd be home ten minutes after and they would just waste them anyways. The cashier kept looking at me in line. I know he was looking at my bald head. After we paid for our tacos he handed us each a cup for a drink. My husband and I laughed and said we should use the bald card more often.

Good story, Dianarose. I'm thinking that playing the bald card is definitely respectable and fair game. I was even thinking a Handicap placard during chemo would be justified for a lot of people. I tend to walk but something like that could really help a lot of people out and make day-to-day life just a bit easier. You have me wondering now--hmmm, when/where might I be able to use this.

Oh, so true. I got out of a wedding shower, probably another one, and maybe both weddings. Bald will be an even better excuse (plus chemo's a pretty good excuse).

Great news on those lashes! Mine started stubby on the bottom and stayed thick.

    I am happy for you.

Hi, I'm new to this site.  I finished my last weekly Taxol March 22/17.  I'm 5 weeks past the last one today actually.  I'm using Nioxin shampoo and conditioner with scalp treatment.  I used this throughout my Taxol and am still using it.  I think my hair is growing...lol but of course not as fast as I'd like.  Just wondering, does anyone go to the gym for a workout while waiting to for their hair to grow in slowly?  If so, I bought a hat wig, I'm going to wear under a baseball cap to the gym.  Would this hinder hair growth by having to cover up the scalp, and sweating etc to an already delicate situation?  Meaning to the hair follicles?  Sounds like a dumb question, but is any question dumb under these circumstances? lol  Thank you.

Hubby and I were in line for a slot tournament and the attendant called me sir. I didn't know if I wanted to cry or smack her. I think smacking her would have made me feel better

Diana--I would have smacked her! I told my husband that if someone ever does something rude to me like that I wanted HIM to say something because I would be in tears. We were going to go get a sandwich for dinner one night. I was too tired to put on the wig so I had on a cap. We drove in the parking lot and these two younger guys came walking by. They took one look at me, pointed and were laughing their heads off. I just cried. Another reason why I can't go in public without the wig. I am getting more and more depressed about my hair. I'm to the point where I wish I wouldn't have agreed to chemo had I known how awful the emotional stress of losing my hair was going to be. Sad but true.

I understand wanting to smack people. Somewhere mid-chemo, my husband and I went to an event where the ticket girl just gave me a senior discount (which I am not quite eligible for yet). My husband, who is well into the appropriate age range, had to ask for one. Ugh.

On the other hand, around the same time period, I stopped by Chipotle one day to grab something for dinner. I had a scarf on (I am no good at wig-wearing). The kid at the cash register said "my mom has the same hairdo as you" and comped my order. Bless his heart. You have to take the silver linings where you find them.

Ok... so my oncologist told me I wouldn't lost my lashes or eyebrows with this Taxol chemo.  My hair took a beating and I kept my eyebrows throughout the Taxol chemo, but it's been 5 weeks post Taxol and I have hardly any eyebrows left now.  I'm expecting those may probably go too.  Good lord, wearing a wig is hard enough.  I have lashes still, they are shorter than before and I sure hope they don't go too.  I am going to be mad at the Oncologist when I go back in August.  I started an I.V. Vitamin drip hoping this will heal my body and hair follicles.  I don't know... this is really discouraging.  You try to be positive but it's hard at times.  Crying isn't going to change this.  I do get panic stricken at times.  I don't leave the house much, cause I feel like ppl can tell I'm wearing a wig.  I've become a recluse.

Drained6513, I know how you feel. When my eyebrows went, I bought stencils and eyebrow make up and have been doing the every morning. The loss of my eyebrows were as bad as the hair. If you start looking though, you will see all the young girls drawing on eyebrows (my daughter told me some even shave them off to draw them on) and this is just for style, not because BC. Hang in there. We are here for you!!!

I have been looking back on these posts as I remember reading something about Rogaine. I'm not finding what I'm looking for. A friend who finished chemo at the same time as me started on Rogaine about a month ago. I saw photos of her hair today and she has at least 5 times more than me, both in length and thickness. Has anyone had success using Rogaine? My hair dresser told me that once you start using it you have to use it forever or the new hair that grew because of it will fall out and that you can't color your hair if using it. I thought I read that someone on here did not experience either of these things. I'll do anything to grow my hair back but I want it to stay. Thoughts anyone.

Yesterday marked 14 weeks pfc for me.

Seq, I just sent you a message on FB. I did use the rogaine, as it was what my dermatologist recommended. I used it for a couple of weeks but then just went back to Nioxin.

    Seq24,

Here is what I use on my hair.

    1 cup coconut oil

    1 cup jojoba oil

    1/2 cup castor oil.

I apply this all over my head and thru my hair at night. I also use it at the crown on my husband's head where there has been no hair and I can see new growth on him! He has used Rogaine for years with small results.

This is the oil I got from Amazon: Jojoba Oil Golden Organic 100% Pure 16 Oz by Dr Adorable

For shampoo, I use: Redken Cerafill Retaliate Shampoo For Advanced Thinning Hair 33.8 oz.

I am sorry about your hair loss. It is awful and I know you feel bad and are trying to stay positive.

Crying can be a cleansing process.

I will share that I always had my Daddy's eyebrows. OK for a guy but I was waxed and plucked on a regular basis. My brows look pretty nice now. The are arched shaped and thankfully not as bushy. Some thing good can come from this.

It will get better. Really! Hang in there.

Coachvicky--thank you! I actually ordered the Rogaine, then cancelled the order after doing some more reading about it. I use Nioxin shampoo and conditioner. I'll start using your mixture too. I have some Jamaican black castor oil. Would that be ok to use?

    Seq24.

I just used plain castor oil but I hear the black is better. I use 1/2 the castor oil because someone wrote that it could clog your pores. Please share if this works for you! My barber gave me the recipe.

Nioxin shampoo really dried my hair. My barber recommended the Redken shampoo and I am having success with it.

You know if some wrote up here that they put soiled cat litter on their hair and it worked I really think that I would try it. LOL.

I told my husband amputating my breasts was not as bad as that first glump of hair that came out.

This hair loss is so severe that for the life of me I can not understand why oncologists just accept it as normal. I am glad there is progress with scalp cooling.

Still struggling w/ hair. I know it was the Taxotere, but then my hair came back ok for about 6 months. After than, the effects of the Zoladex and the AIs kicked in and my hair started thinning. Not bald but it's thinner, esp at the top where you can see scalp.

Trying Rogaine, think it's starting to work a little but have another month or so before I'll really know. Switched to better products - no sulfates, parabens, good oils, etc. taking the supplements, etc. Oncology ran thyroid 6 months ago, normal - though they are running it again.

Bangs, not a look. product only does so much. Reading some of the DIY remedies, not sure what else to try. Thanks.

I posted a couple of times about using Rogaine, the last one was on April 1 on this thread. I used Minoxidil (Rogaine) during my last month of chemo and for 3 months afterwards. My hair grew back rather quickly, and even though I stopped using it about 3 weeks ago I haven't had any hair loss since. As I said in the post, I work with a dermatologist and she (and other providers in our practice) all said the same thing - Chemotherapy Induced Alopecia is quite different from androgenic or male-pattern baldness. The new hair growth for patients with CIA does not fall out after discontinuing minoxidil. I found some clinical trials on the subject and mentioned them in the 4/1 post. I'm 18 weeks PFC and even though my hair isn't incredibly long, it's thick and doesn't really look that bad.

Docmama--thank you! Yours was the post I was looking for on the subject of Rogaine. I knew someone had posted a good experience with it. So you used it to get your hair growing again then stopped? Your hair looks great!

Hi seq24! Yes, I stopped using it because 1. the bottle was almost empty, lol and 2. because it seemed to be making my hair dry and frizzy. Stopping it helped the frizz a bit, but the longer my hair gets the more wavy/curly it seems to be getting!

Docmama--thanks! I ordered some Rogaine. Should be here in a couple days. Hope it works for me. I may only need to use it on the top as the rest seems to be my normal thickness. I'm still holding out for some curls! Right now at just over an inch long my hair is straight as a stick! Thanks for all the helpful information!

Any suggestions about light hair growing on and above my jaw? Should I get it waxed? Shave it off and hope it doesn't re-grow???

Sorella--I have the same thing. When my hair first started growing back it was even at the outside corner of my eye over to my hairline. I felt like I was turning into a caveman or something. I've been using facial hair remover. I'd be interested to know if this hair is here to stay or if it will eventually go away.

I haven't had any unusual hair growth areas. But almost 5 mos after chemo, my eyelashes have been falling out the past couple of weeks after no problems with them at all before. Go figure.

I don't think I posted hair photos last week. Very disappointed yet in the top. It just is not filling in. The back and sides I could live with and ditch the wig but with a glowing scalp still showing through the top I wouldn't dare. Today I am 15 weeks PFC. I wonder if wearing the wig is preventing the hair from coming in on top. Anyone else experience this?

Seq, I'm only 8 weeks out, but still completely bald on most of the top of my head. :-( Hair growth on my surgical side continues to lag behind the right side, but I'm thrilled that my brows and lashes are filling in nicely.
