Hey CanadianGirl, sounds like you are making some progress albeit slow? I have progressed from Gollum to Eleven in Season 1 of Stranger Things :). Eyebrows and lashes are back. Hallelujah! Although I am giving in to vanity and ordered magnetic lashes to give my lashes a boost.

    Hang in there :).

my eyebrows fell out a few weeks after I was done chemo

I put castor oil with aq tip each nite where they should be not sure if it helped but oddly just like I woke one morning and they were gone..

I woke one morning and they were coming back!! Weird

    So hang in there

I finished chemo on 28/06/17. No hair left at that point (other than a few leftover sprouts)... Eyebrows and eyelashes finally fell out once chemo was done but grew back fairly quickly. I also used Latisse on my lashes and brows. I was getting pretty impatient waiting for my hair to grow back. I mixed a brew of pure Jojoba, Rosemary, Castor and Argan oils and applied them to my scalp every evening before bed for about 3 months. Finally started seeing some slow growth around 6 weeks post chemo. I have no way of knowing if it helped or not but my hair has grown back evenly, thick (like before) and wavy (hair was previously straight). I took pictures to track my progress and will try to figure a way to post them if anyone is interested.

Jennifer how long after stopping chemo did you start the latisse?

I have another Latisse question: has anyone had any change in their eye color from using it? I've heard that it can cause the irises to get pigmented brown (if you have green or blue eyes.)

I've used it since June with no change in eye color and I have light green eyes, the skin on my eyelid has darkened slightly though. Just where I would wear eyeliner anyway.

To AgathaNYC - I have used Latisse and my experience is exactly as TWills... no change in eye colour but some darkening along the edge of lid where I would put eyeliner anyway. I think that the greatest risk for eye change colour is when it is prescribed for glaucoma and drops are put in the eye.... different application to how Latisse is applied for eyelashes where it is to be applied to the lid... some risk there, but very minimal I think.

I started the Latisse as soon as I finished chemo. I've used it previously and have never had any iris pigmentation problems at all. I too had a very slight darkening around the eyeliner area as others have mentioned. This product works very well!

I've been using Latisse since the end of chemo in June, my lashes are definetly longer than they ever were before and maybe a bit thicker. Anyone else have issues with a few eyelashes growing in a weird direction? I have a few very straight ones too, like so straight a eyelash curler doesn't even work. Still worth it but those few hairs are a bit annoying.

I'm so glad to hear that you guys didn't experience any eye color change with Latisse. I will definitely look into it when I'm done with Chemo. Happy Thanksgiving, all!

TWills, I have a few lower eyelashes that are turned around and poking me in the eye. Ouch! Their blunt ends are sharp. I have to work at them a couple of times a day to get them turned in the right direction. None are straight; they all curl, some more tightly than others. Do eyelashes form "chemo curls?!?"

Good morning! Sounds like most of us are coming along. I think I’ve lost even more brow hair- it’s been 3 weeks since my last treatment. I do have peach fuzz on my head, especially in the back.

I have surgery next Wed so I’m spending a ton of time with my sons. I’m feeling better every day.

    Happy thanksgiving!

LisaRx--I've gotten really behind on the boards lately. In response to your question about hair growth during Taxol....Mine started growing back about halfway through. It came back at first as white/grey and had a feather like texture. It did not fall out after chemo. When chemo was done it kept growing but it new growth was my normal color. Eventually the ends were the white fuzzy hair and my normal hair at the root. I went and got all of the white stuff all trimmed off when everything was about an inch long. I finished chemo at the end of January of this year. My hair is slow growing but I have about 3.5 inches of dark curly hair all over my head now The only grey I have is what was there before, which thankfully wasn't much. Good luck to you.

I’m lurking want to find how long my hair and eyebrows would come back. I lost 95% of my hair and all my eyebrows during chemo. I guess I should be patience to wait another 5-6 weeks to see some progress.

I read that some women lose their eyebrows and/or eyelashes a few times before they grow back permanently. This is happening to me. I'm 9 months PFC. Several months PFC, my eyelashes grew back, but they are very short and my eyebrows grew back about 80%. About a month ago I noticed that my eyebrows are sparser -- I think they are 50% (of what they they were pre-chemo. Pre-chemo I had fairly thick brows). I hope they grow back again. My eyelashes seem the same --- still short.

The hair on my head seems to be growing faster. I finished Herceptin last month so I'm hoping the growth will speed up. I have soft chemo curls and I've been getting lots of compliments on my hair. I never wore my hair this short, but as long as I have the curls I may keep it this short. It came back as my normal shade of dark brown/black with random white hairs.

Paulette--Patience is definitely a virtue when it comes to hair growth. I had the same chemo as you which I finished in January. My hair started growing back about half way through Taxol but it was white and fuzzy. I lost my eyebrows and lashes about 2 weeks after I finished chemo. They grew back fairly quickly but my hair was/is growing in very slow motion. I finally was brave enough to go without the wig at the end of May. Now, 10 months after finishing chemo my hair is about 3.5 inches long, has returned to it's normal color and is much thicker and curly, which I love. I've had it trimmed and colored a couple times. Yours is coming too!!

    Happy Thanksgiving!

I planned to wear my beanies this winter, if I get some hair back by summer then I wear pixies style. I would be happy if I get my eyebrows back.

    Happy thanksgiving to everyone!

my last taxol infusion was exactly 6 months ago and i barely have one inch of hair on my head, quite dense, thankfully, but not growing!! or growing ever so slowly. it's certainly better than no hair.

my eyebrows are 100% back, eyelashes look weird and short.

underarm hair never came back. (anyone else?)

    Stephanie,

Hi, yes my underarm hair never came back either, apart from one or two hairs. Strange isn't it, when all other hair came back??

Bellasmom, I'm similar to you, few months after last chemo, and while my eyelashest and eyebrows grew back fairly quickly after losing them few weeks post Taxol, they have all fallen out again twice now. The eyebrows actually didn't all go again, just thinned out, but the eyelashes all went. They are long now, but is about the time they might go so waiting to see. They are also extremely straight?! Afraid to curl them with anything, just glad to have them.

    Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

I have a question about lashes and brows. I'm confused when I hear that they can fall out, come back, and fall out again - even a few times.

Is that after all treatment is done? Is that during continuing targeted therapies?

    Thanks!

    Hi Deen

I started September Taxol September 20th after 4 A/C treatments. Yes, I was bald as a cue ball after A/C treatments. I started to see “growth" a little less than a month after my first dose. I'm on dose number 10 and I have continued growth. I use castor oil and biotin supplements. No idea if they are contributing to growth, but I’ll try anything my oncologist allows which isn’t much!

I’m 18 weeks PFC, and my hair is coming in pretty thickly, but it’s so curly, I think it will be another few weeks before I can stop wearing the wig. I’m taking biotin, which my MO said was okay, and my nails and hair are growing fast.

I lost most of my eyebrows and all of my eyelashes about 4-5 weeks post chemo. My eyelashes have come back in, but they aren’t growing as fast as my hair. My eyebrows have come back, but they are much finer than before, and I have to use some powder to fill in. I hope if I was going to lose the brows and lashes again, I would have already done so

    Agathanyc,

Some people experience they eyelash/eyebrow loss a few times I believe because the growth cycle of them is around 3 months, and because they have all come back in initially at the one time, around the 3 months they may then fall out at the end of the growth cycle. You normally would not notice this because you would usually lose each one at different times. I'm nor explaining it very well, hope it makes bit of sense.

I think sometimes anyway it takes a couple if cycles for the growth to be more staggered and more normal. And of course not everyone loses them a second time.

Well I haven't been on here in a long time. I see posts here of what I've already been through and want to give some encouragement. I am 8 months post chemo. Did 12 weeks of Taxol and 3 week intervals of Herceptin, which I am still on, but my last one is in 2 weeks. It can be done. I have thick short hair. I've had it coloured at least 4 times and trimmed. It looks like a normal short pixie cut. The thing is it isn't growing very fast. I use to get my hair trimmed or cut every 6 weeks before chemo and it would grown out quickly if I wanted to change my hair style. Can anyone on here tell me is this how fast it is going to grow forever? I only get it trimmed on my hair colouring days.... so it has some style... when or will it start to grow at a normal rate. And why does it do that? I'd like to at least get to the length of a Bob.

i had a horrible horrible experience this morning when my neighbour just appeared in our back yard while I was getting my breaky ready, at 07:50. The only time I wander around bald, only me and hubby home. When I had my tmt plan we had our neighbours over and I explained that the hair loss would be the worst thing ever for me. I said very clearly that no one was to just wander into our backyard while I'm having tmt. he's the only one that does anyway. They could txt hubby or knock on the door. I feel incredibly betrayed and like I no longer have a sanctuary. I feel I can't forgive him and wouldn't care if I ever saw him again in my life. Sorry I had to vent

Dear Binniebin - I can understand the feeling of safety, privacy and sanctuary being violated. I'm sorry you are left holding that feeling. Other people aren't going to understand what our hair loss does to us. Even in the say "you look great" or "I don't mind", the important thing is that YOU mind and YOU don't feel great about your baldness yourself.

Hopefully your husband can take him aside, explain how much it upset you and it will never happen again.

BinnieBin: Who just wanders into someone else's backyard without permission?! Good grief. I have 4 big dogs and a fence so happily it's not a risk for me :). I would flip TF out

I’m 18 weeks PFC, and I’d say my hair is about an 1-1/2” long, except in the front, where it’s more like 3/4” Pre-chemo I had a haircut every 4 weeks, so mine is growing slowly, but I think it’s picked up since I started taking Biotin.
