Thanks Jaimieh!! Looking forward to the "shadow" even though I don't know what that is...lol Is that when you can see color???

It looks like a 5 o'clock shadow on your head and it means that color is on it's way

Thanks!!! I'll be looking forward to that!!!0

Thanks, Dawn. I know, I know, I need to be patient. Just getting a little worried about some spots more than others - length seems to not be the issue, filling in the holes seems to be. I am going to discuss this with the rad onc when i see him at the end of the month, if no improvement, and may follow up with dermatologist too. They should have a big honkin' manual with photos of what your head should, may and could look like during each stage PFC, so we can play along!!
Arnie - great peach fuzz. Isn't it the craziest thing - what we get excited about?
Dawn, to post photos, there are some instructions on the help section -you will have to create an online photo album, and then create your message, like you were writing a reply, click on the little tree icon, and you will post the URL that your photo album has for that photo, and click upload. took me a couple of tries as I had to resize the photo. And for some reason, it always posts the same photo twice. Go figure.

patti...how did the peroxide work out for you? best wishes!0
-
ROACHRP....Hydrogen Peroxide seems to be the ticket. Spots are much improved, but taking awhile. I'm trying to keep my headgear clean but that is difficult since all my hats need to be airdried. Wondering if that has been part of the problem with rewearing them. Patti0

Patti, have patience - the spots do eventually dry up and the peroxide works great at clearing up the infection. They do take a while to fade - I had folliculitis in April and only recently have the worst ones finally faded (and I have some hair covering them too). Let your scalp get as much air as possible and it will really help.

Hi Ladies, I made it through surgery yesterday. I fainted on the way home in the car, I did the same thing on the way home from my mx surgery. I'm a fainter anyhow but doing it right after surgery freaked my poor DH out even more than usual - POOR THING! I was fine by last evening. All bandaged up and constrained in a surgical bra til tomorrow.
CHELEV - Color on Friday YIPEE, hope it takes. Thanks for the info on pic posting I'll attempt to do that this weekend or beginning of next week. Sounds easy enough - we'll see!
HUGS, Dawn

I used Rogaine all during my chemo. My hair is growing back in now. I use it on my eyebrows too. Seems to help.

Jayne--thank you for asking about the fuzzy white hair and Jane thanks for letting me know it's normal and will shed. It is so nice to have support and answers. I can't imagine going through this without these boards.
I have taken a picture of my hair growth every week and it is surprising to see the growth in 12 weeks--it makes me feel better to see any progress. It just went curly in the past 2 weeks so I'm enjoying it while it lasts plus color has improved it from the mousy (rodent, even) I was sporting.
I wish we could buy Patience sprinkles. I've become a more patient patient, but sometimes it is hard!
Hang in there!

patti...i washed my headcovers like mad to see if it would help. ultimately, going without felt the best. the coolness of air on my head and the coolness of the peroxide swabbing felt fabulous. i bought an "antibacterial wig cap" and a gel ring to wear under my wig when i had to go out. the antibacterial cap didn't seem to do much for me...plus it was tight. i still use the gel ring. it keeps the wig from sitting on the stubble and irritating the scalp. if i had to wear something to go out, i would remove it immediately when i got home and swab with the peroxide. bumps have been totally gone for a long while now, all i do is wash my head with dove soap and a washcloth at night. i'm glad you are seeing some improvement! hugs to you!

I should be able to post pictures next week of my hair growth as my hubby is coming back on Saturday. I was going to go and get some more colored mousse in a redish color but my car broke down and I won't get the parts to fix it until Wednesday night.
I can't wait for my hubby to come home, I am sure one of his first comments is that my hair has grown in the past 3 weeks. Yes......I have sections where it is sticking straight out on the sides. I look like an ostrich!
Dawn - I bet you really scared your dh! How are you feeling now?

Hi girls,
I had my scans and markings on Monday. Was to go back next Monday for sim and start rads on Tuesday. I begged to get started earlier, so...I get sim and first treatment tomorrow. If nothing interferes, I should finish up on 10/1. We have rehearsal for my son's wedding on 10/2 and wedding on 10/3. This timing will be great. Come hell or high water, I will get a treatment each day without any misses!!!
My hair is about an inch and dark. It is still not thick enough to go without my head wraps, but getting there. I to without anything at night now and my kids have seen me without anything a few times. It's long enough to not be such a shock....no more shiny head!
Take care,
Chris

I have a few questions about hair after Chemo, My last chemo treatment was March 30th.
My hair has come in real nice.. but I have a new look its still short but I have alot of curls !!
I am working with it ... Its different.. but I was wondering does the curl last will my hair change again ? If this has happened to you can you tell me your story. My color came back with alot of gray.. At this point I will leave my hair short the hot flashes are real bad sometime I look like I just got out of the shower.
would like to hear from you.

Hello.
I finished chemo March 12 and my hair is just now enough to feel comfortable going without my wig...(still not to work though). I've always had blonde, fairly straight hair, but it's coming back dark brownish-black and very curly. I've heard that it takes about a year or more for the curls to relax. I don't know if that's just from the weight of your hair, or if it changes back. I'm having major hot flashes too, so I'll probably keep a short style for awhile. Also, the past few weeks (when it started curling) my scalp is so tender. It hurts like it did when my hair came out. Is that normal?

Renee...5 months PFC and still too short to go topless? That is way too long! It only took a second to fall out..seems like it could come back quicker. I have no patience at all..I keep looking at it every day..my dh tells me to look only one a week? How can I do that? I wash it every day and have to get ready for work...am I supposed to get ready in the dark?
My scalp is a little tender in spots too...maybe it is hair trying to come back..let's hope so!0 -
Wow, Renee and Titan, I was thinking the same thing this morning- why is my head tender all of a sudden?? I will be 4 months pfc next week, and I do have growth - my daughter trimmed the crazy hairs at the nape of my neck the other day so it is even, and from the back, it looks like a very thin pixie cut. The front, ahhhhh, well, it's getting longer - not as long or as thick as I would have thought by this point, but at least it's covering 75% of my scalp. But, anyone else further along have scalp tenderness during the regrowth??

chelev, my last chemo was jan 23 and i still have tender spots on top of my head seems every evening i notice it. my hair is almost back to normal length although it is hard to tell because it is so curly but i do have the tenderness i thought it was just me i guess not. thanks for the info sharon

I might win the prize on being the biggest WUS and not going without my wig. I finished chemo on Jan 22, 2009 so I am SEVEN months PFC and am still wearing this thing. I just don't know what to do with this short, curly hair. I try and try to make it look ok but I just can't get comfortable with it. I know I should by now and I am SO TIRED of friends and family asking me about it.

Just do it CristlC! I throw on gel when it's wet and go. In this Houston humidity it is the only way I can control the frizzes. I bet you might be able to use a headband or something to pull yours away from your face?????? Also, went and got a trim last weekend and my hairdresser was able to use the chi on my hair. Now it's only ~1 1/2 to 2 inches but it worked on getting all of the curl out.
~ 8 weeks PFC, my Mom talked me into going without a cap (I did not wear a wig). It was a lot easier than I thought. People really are not that into looking at you. They are too busy with their own problems.
I just don't know how you are wearing a wig in this heat and humidity! You poor thing!!!!! You can DO IT!
I am here cheering you on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go Crystl! Go Crystl, Go Crystl!!!!

I am 18 weeks PFC now....still wearing my wig or ball cap....my hair is coming back straight..just the way it was before chemo. Does it turn curly at a particular time, or would I know by now??
Hey Jamieh..how are you doing..it has been several weeks since I have been on and not enough time to catch up on the reading ...Hope all is good!
Shari

Thank you Swest!! I can hear the cheering! You KNOW I must be worried about it if I am wearing it in this heat. I did get a little trim and even some color trying to make myself feel better about it. I bought a little tiny hair straightner and can get some straightened around my face. My hair is only about 2 1/2 inches so it sounds like it is growing slower than some??? I am taking Herceptin and some ladies have said that can slow down the process. My Onc said it doens't but sometimes I feel like the ladies here know more about side effects than they do!
Thanks again for cheering me on.... it is coming!

Smile,
Mine started getting curly later but I dont think you ever know. Everyone is so different. I had very fine, straight hair... now it is still fine but curly!

Cristl, lose the wig!!!! If I can go without one with the "male pattern baldness . . .er, thinness" on top, you can rock those curls. Or, try one of the shampoos/conditioners meant to help straighten your hair, like Flat Out, and use your chi!! go, Cristl, go Cristl!
I am noticing that the hairs in the back, which had been laying down flat against the back of my head are starting to have a mind of their own. My old hair was very very thick and wavy, and if I didn't put any product in, could frizz up if it was very humid. Seeing some of the frizz in back, or is it the start of curls, I wonder?

Good morning ladies,
My hair seems to be at a standstill. It is about an inch, but still thin. Can't stand seeing my scalp. I am still using shampoo, conditioner, and drops for thinning hair/regrowth. I take 10,000 mcg Bioting daily. I started rads and am taking Arimidex....not sure if that is slowing things down or not?? I can go with just a ball cap around the house now, but not in public. I don't wear anything in the bedroom ( at least on my head!!!)
Patience is a virtue....wonder if chemo effects that ability at all...maybe another SE!!
Chris
