I can't believe how much hair I have!  It still is only about 1/2" long but there is so much of it!

I can't stand the silver gray color!

Someone suggested trying a colored mouse on it.  I looked at every bottle at Target and Walgrens and couldn't find anything at all except for this spray on hair color that gives you pink, purple and blonde hair but it only lasts until you wash it again and I don't think that is the product that was suggested so if anybody can tell me the manufacturer or where to get it I would so much appreciate it.  I still have some white hairs so I thought if I put a little bit of color on it then I would really get to see how much I actually have.

I started off with the male baldness pattern but now the front receeding area is showing white hairs and my bang area is starting to grow.

Still using Mane and Tail shampoo and 10,000 mcg of biotin every night.  It is working!

    Lisa810,

Your hair looks really good.  How many weeks out are you?  I am getting a lot of white hairs.  Is that because of the chemo?

Dawn, yay!!!  You ARE PFC now!!!

Jancie, glad to hear the male pattern baldness area starts to fill in - the rest of my hair, and yes, I am getting bangs again, is slowly starting to fill in and where it's really getting thick is the back of the crown.  Entering week #14 PFC.

Florbo, yes - it is from the chemo that you get the white hairs first - apparently from what we're finding out as our hair is coming back is that the follicles seemed to be programmed to restart, but the pigment doesn't seem to get that message until a while later, so what you see is a lot of grayish or clear hair.  I am still getting some of that, but most is coming in with my natural dark brown color, especially the thick hair at the top and the fringe that will be my bangs and side hairs.

That's why I couldn't stand it anymore and had to use color at 12 weeks pfc - I could feel the hairs, but couldn't see them, so I used Clairol Natural Instincts in a dark brown that is the same as my natural color and it was as if they grew overnight, I could see them all!  If for nothing else, it definitely boosts the self esteem and resassures us that yes, it will grow back, just on it's own timetable.  I've been having my DH give me scalp massages, similar to when you go to the salon for a wash and cut and they massage your scalp.  Haven't needed a salon in 6 months, so missing that - and boy, did it feel good!  Plus, I swear I could feel the blood rushing into those follicles.  Tongue out

Jancie...You can find colored mousse and rinse called Roux Fanci-full at a beauty supply store like Sally's. It washes out with each shampoo, so you will have to reapply it. You may have to experiment with a couple of different colorsto find the right one for you.

    ccbaby,

Thanks for posting the name of that mousse, I'm running out the door right now.  Just called my Sally's and they said they have it.  If I could see some color on this 1/4" CLEAR hair I would be ecstatic.  I'm going to go crazy waiting for 3wks PFC to do it.  Thanks a lot!!!

    Chelev,

yep I'm doing the PFC dance right now on my way out the door to Sally's!

ccbaby - thanks also for the name of the product.  There is a Sally's within a mile from my house so I will go by there today.

I just want to really see how much hair I have since a lot of it is clear and/or white.

I noticed today I have some hairs that are sticking straight out on the sides.  Not complaining because after all it is hair and that is the most important thing right now.

jancie, that's the way I look at it.  I might not have a ton of hair, and you can still see my shiny clean scalp, but the hair that is there is staying on my head, and that's a very very good thing!!!

Tomorrow I'll be 11 weeks pFc. I was lucky, my hair came in dark. Only now do I see the greys sprouting here and there.

Mom_of_boys, this is my natural color. Which I haven't seen since, oh, about 1988, lol!

"Before cancer, I had to have every hair in place and would panic if it was messed up." Ditto, Leeayn! I was mega hair-obsessed. Humidity was my number one nemesis. Now? HA! I laugh in the face of fog & drizzle! That's actually the part i loved about wearing the wig. my hair ALWAYS looked good.

(((jewlls))) losing my hair was the worst part of this entire BC thing. Somehow, tho, after all my crying and by the time I'd lost most of it in the shower (I didn't buzz), I was ok with it. I even opened the window and sent some of my hair flying out on the breeze, almost ceremoniously. It's amazing what you'll learn to accept. You're stronger than you think. Honest. I promise.

Susan13, I am so lovin' your ‘do! your wigs were fab, but you truly rock the short ‘do! Your munchkin is heart-melting adorable!

Francine, so sorry to hear about your infection. Hoping you heal soon sooner soonest.

Dawn, one week pFc will turn into 4, then 9, then 11 ... it's amazing how time flies once chemo's over. During chemo, time seemed to STOP. For me, anyway.

Titan, chelev, Maggie, kjbell, florbo, Judy ... thanks for your kind words and encouragement. This thread helped keep my spirit afloat during my bleakest moments. I only hope I'm paying it forward a bit.

Hi everyone. I've never posted on this thread, but do read it. I thought I'd post my hair progress. I had my last chemo on June 2, so I am now 8 weeks out.

This was my head in 6/15, 2 weeks PFC:
    hair61509.jpg picture by gcpommom40

Then on 7/8/09, 5 weeks PFC, had now lost eyebrows/lashes:
    hair7809b.jpg picture by gcpommom40

Then today, 7/28/09, 8 weeks PFC, after coloring it yesterday (couldn't stand the white hair) I just used my regular permanent color, *note eyebrows/lashes are back, yay!:

    hairdyed.jpg picture by gcpommom40

The gray hair didn't all cover with the color.....will try something darker next time, this color is a mix of light and medium blonde I always used.  It now looks kind of tan in color. Oh well, at least it's basically one color now instead of 2!  sorry the pics are so big

    Hugs

I wanted to post something positive in this thread.

The good thing about not having much hair is that as soon as  you get a hot flash all you have to do is take a wash rag, run it under some cold water, wipe down your head and instantly you cool down!  I do this everytime I get hot now and it works wonders!

Judy, that's some great growth!!  Your brows and lashes did what mine did - and they came back pretty quickly.  Lashes still have a ways to go to get as long as they used to be, but at least they came back!

jancie - I agree - sans wig and headcoverings, I am not having as many hot flashes (gee, think that's related? - good thing it's summer and not winter, or I'd be freezing), but a damp cloth does do the trick.

Good for all the topless ladies!  I can't get there with myself!  I am 27 weeks PFC.  I got a tiny highlight this week to try to help.  My hair is so curly and I am just not use to short and curly.  I am trying to get there.  I think a little more length to help wiith my forehead might help.  I take Herceptin till Nov09 and from what I head that can stall the growth somewhat.  My eyelashes fell out again a couple of weeks ago and are grwoing back.  They sure aren't what they use to be but I guess, with time, they will get there.  I am also trying to patiently wait for my big toenails to grow back.  I had my nips done two weeks ago and stitches come out next week.  Then, tatoos on nipples.... we will all get there eventually!  Good luck!

jancie...LOL, I agree, that is the ONLY good thing about not having any hair! Oh, and it doesn't take long to get ready in the morning either! Wash, air dry in 2 seconds, pop on the wig and I am good to go!

Jamieh: Your hair looks alot like mine!!!! I have just a little more as it has started just started to lie down on top. I go with out a wig. I wear one only on special occasions. I still miss having my long hair and OH how I miss my bangs. But I have some hair now and you can not see my scalp through it as much. Sooooo that makes me happy ( I guess). I am on herceptin and will be also till November. So I can imagine I will have long flowing blond hair the minute I am off of it!!!! I colored my hair with natural instincts. It is blond again!!! Nothing can stop me!!!! I could sure pull this look off better if I lost 28 pounds grrrrr. I will work on that as my hair works on growing. For all you getting wiggy with it, make sure you let your scalp breath too. No hat or scarfs at home would help.

Bold I am so glad to hear that the hair fairy finally visited you.  I had blonde hair prior to this so I am a bit shocked how dark it is.  It is actually much darker in person than in the pictures.

I am now just using hats and I use them because my head is COLD all the time.  I did embarass a poor kid at the local crab house.  I went to pick up crabs to bring home and they normally look at your drivers license so I said before he even asked you can look at my license but it doesn't look like me.  Poor kid's face turned 50 shades of read and never did look at my license.  I just laughed at him.

I am getting my hair back, my eyebrows are in and need to be shaped but my eyelashes are almost gone :(.  I do have some new ones coming in but I think they are going to take a while.

I went and got the colored mousse - #16 Hidden Honey.  Not sure I like the color so much but it is hiding the gray!!  Now let's see what happens when my head starts sweating when I ride my horse today.  I can just see colored sweat dripping down the back of my neck Surprised

I think I will try a reddish color and see how that looks.  I was a natural blonde but always liked red hair which is why I bought 2 red wigs.

JANCIE - I bought the colored mousse too, Chocolate Kiss.  I think you had better luck and probably more hair than I do.  I have about 1/4" and for the most part I just ended up with a PURPLE HEAD LOL!  UGH, I was so in hopes that it would work.  In about 2 weeks my hair dresser said she'll color my hair, I have to wait 3 wks after chemo and that's the day of my exchange surgery so hopefully later that week.  Maybe I'll try the mousse again next week with a little more growth.  No brows and very little lashes for me. This sucks and I'm getting very impatient.

JUDY & JAIMIEH - You guys look great.  I can't wait to get to that point!

Oh, Dawn, a purple head??  Well, it's color, right??  Hang in there on the brows and lashes, I swear they will come back.  Are you rubbing the follicle booster on the brows?  It really helps.

Jaimeih - getting there, sista, getting there!!

Bold, glad you are having some progress - and that you were able to color it.  I couldn't wait until the color showed how much is really there - it does make a difference.  Good for you for going commando too!  It shows how brave we are.  (and I agree - letting it all air out helps with the growth).

I've been making my husband give me scalp massages every night - he wants my hair to come back as quickly as I do - he misses my long locks.  I told him it would take about a year for the "long" part to come but anything he would be willing to do to boost the efforts are appreciated.

Dawn - too funny!  How in the heck did you end up with purple?

I tried to take some pictures of myself but can't get it to work.  I will take my camera out to the barn and get my trainer to take some pictures.  BUT.....if they come out ugly - forget it - I won't post it.

Does anybody else feel like their face is fat?  I gained 13 lbs which is up 2 dress sizes and my face looks so round that I hate pictures of myself.  I know camera's add on another 10 lbs so that means I look 23 lbs heavier - grrrrrrr

JANCIE & CHELEV - I don't know what happened, maybe my skin just didn't like it.  The color was a dark brown but maybe just not enough hair to grab on too.  It was kinda funny tho'.  My 12yr old daughter was laughing and so I had to.  It was about the color of eggplant LOL.  Thank goodness for laughs through all this or I'd constantly be in tears.  I'll have to have my husband do the head massage.  I haven't tried the follicle booster, is that the Nioxin stuff.  Do I have to wait a certain amount of time PFC?  Thanks for all your help!  I gained some weight too, UGH.  I started at 5'0 and 98lbs and now I'm about 108lbs.  Walking like crazy on the treadmill and eating lots of salad.  Being so small every little bit shows on me.  This is all so frustrating.  Bald and chubby isn't good!

Yeah, and it doesn't help that without hair, our heads and faces are just round blobs!!  I put one of my wigs on when I was packing them up and it made such a difference in how my face looked.  Much thinner.

Yes, that is Nioxin.  You can start using it now, it's okay to - I've been putting it on twice a day from right after chemo thru rads and still using it - and will continue until the scalp no longer shows.

The thing that's got me the most depressed is that it is VERY thin on top - I've got the start of bangs, but past that, until it gets to the crown, it is not filled in much at all.  I'm starting to get a little nervous about it - everything else seems to be filling in except that spot and when I look with a magnifying mirror, I don't see little hairs coming in there.  Coming up on 14 weeks PFC and looking at some of the postings by some of you at just a few weeks PFC, everyone seems to be filling in all over and I'm not getting anywhere on that spot.  Any suggestions???
