Michelle,  It was either that or I was going to buy a new car so I would not have the old smoke smell in it.  Instead, I am planning on having it cleaned really good.  Undecided

Thanks Sea,  I'm still hanging in.. my quit date was May 1... Never thought about the idea that quitting at the most stressful time on your life isn't so easy, but again, there's a certain "motivation" that is keeping me in.... Add my to the list... I will keep you all updated.  I was distracted by my surgery and post op care, but I'm "back"/

One week and one day on my gradual cut down program - I am happy to report that a pack lasted me 3 whole days.  Another small victory.  Struggled a bit today with cravings unlike I have had in the past several days.  Don't know what that was all about but trying not to beat myself up over it.  Heck, I made it through the day with 6 cigs.

DH and I will be celebrating on Monday - our 38th wedding anniversary.  Both of us are 20 veterans of the US Air Force.

Congratulations on your Air Force anniversary and your 38 yr. wedding anniversary, my dad was in the Air Force during W W II, thank you for your service to our country.  Also - great job on resisting those cravings, sometimes they come out of the blue, 1 pack in 3 days is a superb cutback.  Karen

Been very quiet here lately, I'm sure, in part, due to the holiday weekend!

Just want to say that I hope you all had a good week-end and exercised a bit more restraint than I did in the eating and celebratory libations than I did!  We have a running tradition of a weekend long celebration with my whole family at my parent's house!  LOTS of food... Can see the town fireworks from their house... Overall, a really good time!

    I am exhausted!  LOL

Hope you all are doing well!

I did not indulge too much in the food department and have found that at least for awhile I am going to have to cut out the alcohol.  Seems cigs and alcohol go together.

Been a crazy last 2 days and I have slipped big time.  A pack is lasting 2 days instead of 3 days. It has been 10 days since I started my program and have to keep from beating myself up - especially these last couple of days.

I know I can get back on track tomorrow and that is just what I am going to do.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

    Jo,

Congrats on your anniversary!  38 years is wonderful!!

Just noticed you are in Texas!  When we were building the house that we live in now, there was a  couple behind us that was building at the same time.  The husband was a retired Air Force Colonel.  They were I think originally from Austin but, not sure where he served...

My DH has said to me twice in the past week when walking by me: "I smell cigarettes." First time I ignored him, but tonight it pissed me off and I told him, a little loudly I'm afraid, "I haven't had a cigarette in almost a year! Are you accusing me of smoking??" After he assured me he wasn't, I told him he must have a smoking ghost following him or something.

    Jo,

Holiday weekends are really hard the first time that you have to manuver them without doing what you are used to (in this case smoking)!  You are right... Just learn what you were meant to learn from this weekend and get back in the saddle tomorrow!!

That's the beauty of the whole thing... Tomorrow is a blank slate!!

    (((( BAMA ))))

Nothing sucks worse than being accused of something you didn't do!!

I think that's why my son was my biggest supporter when I quit!  Yes, he wanted me to quit for my health BUT, I think a bigger reason was that all of his friends' parents thought he smoked because his clothes smelled like smoke!

Not sure if this could maybe be the problem but, we have gotten into the hot weather here and I have started to wear clothes that I haven't worn in awhile.... My husband said the same thing to me but we figured out it was the shirt from my closet that I was wearing had not been worn since I quit and still had a lingering smoke smell!

SeaSide - My DH and I are both retired from the Air Force - he was 6 years ahead of me.  We were both enlisted.  We were in San Antonio and then migrated way south closr to the Mexican Border.

Thanks for the support and encouragement.  I have to really stop beating myself up when things don't go like I think they should.  This is supposed to be an 8 week program.

BAMA  - ((HUGS))  - that really sucks being accused of something you did not do.   Hope you and DH worked everything out.

Jo, please don't beat yourself up. It happens. It is OK and you WILL do it!

Bama, I would have clobbered him. As hard as it is to not smoke! Yipes.

Hi.. I was diagnosed in Sept 08. Quit smoking in Oct 08 for about 6 months. Unfortunately went back not smoking as much though.  Its been almost 3 years and just started Chantix on Sunday.  My quit date is Monday. Last time I quit I used Chantix for about a month. I now know that I could not be an occasional smoker this is it for me. Good luck to everyone.

akeefe7 - I am also trying to quit smoking.  Am using the Filtrim system that is an 8 week gradual cut down program - just started week 2 and doing good.  Had a few setbacks over the long weekend but then again I think I am expecting too much too soon.  I can't used products like Chantix - I break out in hives terribly.  Had the same reaction with Zyban.  Good Luck to you.

    Welcome akeefe7!!

Glad you have decided to join us!  I think that you will find this group to be a very supportive group of ladies!!

Sounds like you had good luck with the Chantix last time and something happened later in your quit  where you went back to smoking!  Take some time to look at what worked for you and what didn't!  Look at last time as practice for NOW...the time that is right for you!!

I will be away for the next week and a half but, will be thinking of you  (You, too, Jo)!!!

I'm with Barbara in that I know I can NEVER be a casual smoker (although part of me wishes it could be so)!! I know myself well enough to know that 1 is too many and 1000 will never be enough!  So I keep on keepin' on!  No Regrets so far!!!

Welcome aboard!  Hope to hear more from you soon!

Seaside - I definitely know I could not be a casual smoker.  It has to be all or nothing and at this point I am choosing nothing.  I continue taking those baby steps and try not to beat myself up too much when things don't go my way.  Thanks for the encouragement and support.

    Jo,

Slow and steady wins the race....

That way you can see what is working and what isn't and make those gradual adjustments (small is not overwhelming and is manageable) that will make this try the "ONE".  When things don't go your way, remember to take a moment to think about what was going on that set you back... Those are the moments where you learn the most and can put together a plan where that same situation won't trip you up the next time!

Step by step and day by day....  You will get there!!

And, yes, for ME as I think it most likely is for most.... we just can't dabble in smoking!

Seaside - I tend to be my worst critic.  I can be so hard on myself.  My biggest battle right now is to take those baby steps and not to get in such a hurry.  I know I will get there and yes, after many failed attempts - this is going to be the one.

Sheesh!  This thread is not really active.  Where is everyone?  I hate to be the only one posting here.  Makes me sound pitiful and needy.

I started Stage 3 of my 4 Stage quit smoking program yesterday.  DH is still on Stage 1 and can't get him to move to the next phase.  Anyway, I also ordered a natural herb package that is also supposed to help with quitting smoking.  I am going to "double team" that with Stage 4.  Should progress in about a week to 10 days.  I have decided that I want to be smoke free by the end of this month.  I am sooo ready for this but not ready to take that final plunge yet.

Car is still smoke free - that has been kinda easy.  In fact, this whole thing has been much easier that I thought.  Guess I finally found something that is going to work for me.

    Have a Great Weekend Everyone.

Jo, I stop by several times a week but have been busy this week. Out of town Minday and Tuesday. Good for you moving to stage 3. How is DH doing? Stuck in stage 1?

    Everyone have a great weekend.

Jo:  I had chemo #4 for my ov ca this week and have been feeling bad. Don't mean to leave the newcomers hanging without support! I'm coming up on my one year anniversary; it's hard to believe. I've never been quit that long before. Just shows it can be done when you are motivated and have others to help you through it.

Lady in Bama, sorry you are feeling badly, hope it doesn't last too long. [[[Bama}}}.  Hi Jo, I check in each day but haven't posted, you are doing so well, amazing that we are all our worst critics.  We definitely need to give ourselves credit on embarking on this difficult habit to quit.

i apologize, i'm guilty of not posting lately...i have been reading but have really neglected posting.

jo keep that major positive attitude going lady!!!

bama (((hugs))) i'll have to go back in the string to find your quitaversary date...

i really wish i could convince DH to start the quit process too, i can tell he's hurting in the morning, as he lingers on the edge of the bed after putting his shoes on.  i've been telling him about the sucess of so many here but i don't want to sound like the a nagging ex-smoker pain in the a$$.  i even printed out vj's workbook and left it on the kitchen counter, he hasn't "broken the binding" yet.
