McCartney was one of the best shows I have ever seen and I have been to a lot of concerts. What a showman! He had a laser light show (and it was raining and looked so cool in the clouds) and lots of special effects in just the right spot. I saw him a long time ago though (in Foxboro stadium where the Patriots play) and we had great seats so maybe now that he is older, he is not as good. Linda was still alive when I saw him. I have great memories of that night. Enjoy every minute!

Hey ladies! Long time no post for me. You've left me with many a page to catch up on!

I'm checking back in because I have one cig left to smoke before I don't smoke again. I feel like announcing it here will help underscore its importance. I fell off the wagon after my surgery, and I have a final implant exchange still to do. I've had to move it 2x now because I couldn't manage to stay off smokes for the 30d prior to the surgery date. It's absolutely shameful, but I have no regrets being transparent w/ the surgeon & his staff. I also know you guys all understand how this can happen.

I hope you're all doing well. I see some concert talk above....there's nothing like a dose of amazing live music to remind you how alive you are!

    Hug

SVG - welcome back. One to go?? So do you have that one after dinner or at bedtime? Sorry, I'm being facetious - whatever time... it won't be long enough. I'm sure you heard LisaMarie's story about how she cut back to only one every morning, and they one morning just decided - ENOUGH. We're rooting for you. Are you going cold turkey? You can post or rant here any time. We've all been there so we understand for sure. Fingers & toes crossed that this is your time.

Thanks Leslie, I look forward to the company!

Minus, I had the last puff about an hour after I posted above. I'm using patches + Wellbutrin. That's the combo that worked for me a year ago. My previous, recent attempts were cold turkey with no "tools" but for willpower - and that didn't cut it. I'm even going to start attending a Smoking Cessation class that starts in November. This HAS to be the last time I do this. I'm so sick of quitting!

SVG - you go girl. You're almost 2 full days (especially if you're on the East coast). I really think the first week was the hardest. Then it's a matter of tricking your mind with new habits. For that arm motion, I used tons of sunflower seeds in the shell. Arm up to put seed in mouth. Arm down. Crack shell w/teeth. Arm up to remove shell. Arm down. Repeat. I love to read & used to sit on the couch and smoke while reading So I had to find a different chair. Sometimes I think it would have helped if I'd tied my right arm behind my back. We're here for you. Rant if needed.

SVG - hope you made it through the weekend. Let us know.

OK Judi - it's time to check in. Don't make me have to call the flying monkeys!!! We still haven't heard about your BC trip.

So Thursday I'm finally going to make my continually postponed trip to the Grand Canyon. I had to cancel in the spring when I broke my arm, and then my brother cancelled several times. This has been on my bucket list forever. OK - so maybe I can no longer ride the mules to the bottom or do the river rafting, but at least I can walk along the rim & see the sunrise. I I wait another 9 years it will probably require a wheel chair!! The fly in the ointment is that I'm staying with my brother. I last saw him 9 years ago when our Dad died. Prior to that it was 20 years. It's most likely that we still don't have anything in common, but I guess I need to try one more time. So no electronic connections for me after Wednesday for a full week. But I'll be thinking of you all.

Hi MT. Sorry I've been MIA but super busy getting ready for Florida, working out 5x a week, shopping, birthdays, you name it I've attended to it. But have a great trip to the Grand Canyon. We flew in the helicopter and it was breathtaking so I can imagine walking it would be like. Hi to all the other ladies.

Hi LisaMarie .... I am so happy for you. I know it's busy working so much but it's better then not working. I know you wonder when it's all going to end but one day you will look at yourself, and think by jove, I've made it. Glad to hear about your apartment ... I wish you were closer so I could give you some stuff for it. I have lots that I'm cleaning out but I'm going to the Salvation Army. Someone will need it .... got sheet sets that have never been used, towels never used, dishes, etc. All the best for you .... things are improving. Way to go girl!

Oh good Judi, you haven't disappeared. When do you leave for Florida? LisaMarie - fantastic about the apartment. I too wish you were closer since I could share so many thing I no longer need. Maybe you'll be able to find stuff at GoodWill or Salvation Army.

The Grand Canyon was magnificent. Too late tonight to post more since I have to get the suitcase off my bed. I'll add some adventures tomorrow or Saturday.

    http://truthinitiative.org/news/breast-cancer-awar...

FYI--Got this link today about breast cancer and smoking. Just some more reasons to be smoke-free.

It's been quiet here, nice to see that everyone is busy with travel, work, new apartments etc.

I have been spending my free time pone banking to raise the tobacco tax in California. If you're still smoking and live in Ca. you probably don't want to hear that but maybe it will give you just one more reason to try again to become smoke-free.

Two weeks ago was Desert Trip and it was even better than I imagined. The bands were incredible, hard to choose a favorite. And the venue was great, not a bad seat in the house, lots of huge screens to see everything, great light/firework shows. Lots of bathrooms (not porta potties but real bathrooms), lots of food vendors. Rarely had to wait in line for anything (except t-shirts--line was 1.5 hours long).

VJ - glad all is well. Thanks for the Desert Trip report. I spent some time reading about it when you first talked about Coachella. I was a counselor one summer for a couple of weeks at a girl's camp above 29 Palms. I like the countryside in spite of the heat.

So I spent 8 days away from home. We were up in the mountains in AZ and at the Grand Canyon. Much of the color was already over, but there was still a lot of yellow aspens. I had not seen my brother for 9 years since our Dad died, and before that it was 20 years, so I worried that we might not have too much to talk about. That wasn't a problem since everything I said or did was wrong. I didn't realize how stupid I was. Gee whiz - I even committed the cardinal sin of eating butter... Hmmm. I was able to bite my tongue most of the time. The next trip will be to somewhere that I'm able to be my normal intelligent self. But I'm glad I went. The canyon was magnificent. I did get to have lunch with the cousin I connected with last year when her daughter was here at MD Anderson several times. Sadly her daughter died but we will now stay close. Also lunch with another cousin I hadn't seen since 1966. And a coke and long visit with another BCO member. It's always so much fun to meet BCO members around the country.

Flying with no leg room & long lines reminded me of the days we used to smoke in planes. And after that we could still smoke at the airports. And then only in a "smoking room". And then not at all unless you went back outside through security. It would be an impossible trek with such long TSA lines. So it's one more time I'm really glad I quit.

Morning ladies. MT, sorry about you and your brother. Always hard after such a long time and then that shit. You got it .... next time a different venue. So, a friend sent me an email with "politically incorrect ads of yesteryear". Sent me looking for some more and found some that I honestly can't believe we bought into it. I know I did.

Bosum, you speak true words. I honestly don't know why there isn't a market for this as it did happen and we can't change that. Sometimes, I think this "political niceness" is bullshit!

Bosum, historical black art and folk art is HIGHLY collectible, particularly if it is from the slave era. Much of this ends up in museums and in private collections I read. The new museum in DC has a lot of memorabilia donated from folks who have collected it for years.

    Love the ads Judi.

Welcome back Minus...family relationships can be so tricky...glad you enjoyed your trip though!

Hi Lisamarie...don't work TOO hard..LOL xo

Judi - The ads seem unbelievable now. Thanks for sharing.

Actually I've been reading lots about our personal 'collections'. It seems millennials don't want "stuff" anymore. Not my Waterford glasses that my Grandfather bought for me one at a time over multiple years. Or Royal Copenhagen Christmas plate collection that I got by saving all year to get just one. A neighbor of mine just died and her children are literally tossing out what were expensive Lladro porcelain figurines. And they're selling her jewelry to melt down for the price of the gold. Funny - I tried to tell her 5 years ago that it was OK to sell it and use the money (which she badly needed) for herself but she couldn't bring herself to follow through. Much of my furniture came from my grandparents & parents. OK - I get that it's not minimalist or from Ikea or new, but I like the oak & walnut REAL wood. If you've been following antique stores, the word is that 'things' just aren't selling like they used to. It sounds like the younger generation doesn't want to be tied down with stuff.

That makes me very sad Bosum but I know you are right. The history of a beautiful piece is what excites me. I have an old dining room set that my Grandmother bought in 1935 and I love it. It has burled wood insets and it is mahogany and although it is more ornate than my taste, the memories of that set make me happy when I sit down in the chair, particularly during the holiday season. I can still see my grandparents, smiling as my Grandfather cuts the turkey and says "white or dark" as he brings the platter around the table, always serving himself last. My Mom had it in her home for 30+ years until she passed (she got it in the 1980's) and now I have it. The china was the same that we ate on when I was a little girl. Bone china (with a pattern no longer in production) and it is beautiful.

Anyone who can throw out Lladro statues has a screw loose by the way.

    Hi everyone!

Ladies, what you say is sooooo true. We remember all the memories of a certain items(s) but the younger ones are not interested. I actually donated one of the first machine-made quilts to the museum where my grandparents lived. They decided it was it such good shape to use it in the museum and not in the demonstration area. I too have lots of family treasures that I honestly don't know what will happen to them - the dining table my grandfather gave me grandmother on her wedding day. I'm thinking my young niece will take it but I actually live with "a lot of dead people's furniture" so she may not think like me. Was a lot cheaper to collect when I first started out but it still was a pretty penny. Now, I couldn't afford the furniture today and it's not even "real wood". A lady friend told me that she is experiencing the same thing as us and read that we shouldn't give the items to our children, etc. Give it to a local charity where they can make money. I tried selling items in a garage sale and it was painful. I gave it to the local Salvation Army and when I went to the store a few days later to check - all gone. I know they didn't make much on it but at least it gave them some money!

So I only had 4 groups that came trick-or-treating. Oh oh, lots of left over candy. And double oh oh, because several years ago I started buying candy that I actually liked. I must take it with me tomorrow when I play dominoes and maybe it won't come back.

Old memory from the 80's... I had a neighbor with a son in the same grade as mine. We left our respective husbands at home to answer the doors. (neither of them smoked). We walked behind the kids happily puffing away. And when we stopped at houses with people we knew, we pulled out our "shot glass" and said 'trick or treat'. Most everybody understood it was more than half joking, but we did get some fill ups. (mostly from smokers who stepped out to join us). Different times. She didn't quit smoking until she had a stroke. As you all know, I forced myself to quit.
