Robin: Didn't your PS have you wearing a compression garment? Do you need to push the upper pole of the implant downward? This is a common issue with breast augmentation - not so much breast reconstruction - but there is a stabilizer band you could be using to push the implant down into the pocket. I understand your issues about nipples. I would wait as it can take up to 6 months or even longer for some implants to settle properly. Wait until next fall and see where you are at that time. But I would try to use compression garments to try to shape those boobies. Using a compression bra helped my problems immensely. Here is the stabilizer band: [there are others - but this is the cheapest]

And here is the stabilizer band combined with a support bra:
Or a compression strapless which will compress the implants downward but keep the entire breast compressed.

I am so sorry to hear about your father....so hard to lose a daddy...

Maybe what happened to me today will cheer some of us up. Early this morning after working out I made a quick stop at the grocery. It's kinda like a Whole Foods so has a large outside patio area where you can eat the goodies from inside. The place was a sea of pink - women with pink shirts, pink caps, pink feather boas. One lady walked past me, and I asked her what was going on. She said it was the first practice walk for the Avon breast cancer 3-day walk. I said that was wonderful, then told her I'd recently been diagnosed and had bmx, but then I just started crying! This fabulous sweet woman reached out, gave me a hug, and said "we're doing this for you, sister." All I could think to say was "thank you."

Deb -- I have been wearing a compression bra 24/7, but it does not seem to compress the implant downward. It just seems to compress it towards the armpit. Thanks for the links. I like the bra that has the compression band built in. That looks very effective. I think I'll try it.

Whippetmom: re: compression band for aug side. My PS had me put on a jogging bra and then flip it up to cover just the upper pole of my breast. It worked great, plus the added benefit of being in my closet and already fitting me and feeling more like my regular clothes. I just adjusted it so that the bottom band that goes along your chest wall was at the top of the implant. It worked great, I only had to do it for a week

Happy Mother's Day!!

Robin: Read what kmmd wrote about using a jogging bra....great idea for an inexpensive fix to use to see if it will help depress the implants downward.
Happy Mother's Day to all of the Mom's out there! Being a doggy-mom counts also!!!

Hi everyone. Just had my exchange on May 8th. I cant believe how wonderful I feel. What a relief to have softness again. A couple hours post op we went over to visit family. I had no pain that advil wouldnt cover . My only complaint is that I thought I was having 475 cc implants and actually ended up with 450s . They ordered the wrong size and these are too small. Can you have a different size put in when you have Fipples put on?
0 -
Meredith! EEEKKKK! Ordered the wrong size? What were they thinking? You need to exchange out to 475's [although 25 cc's is not going to be notably much larger] and then wait a couple of months for your nipples. You need to get any exchange or revisions which alter the shape of the breast completed before nipples, or they could end up looking like someone was playing "Pin the Tail on the Donkey." Get the picture?

Meredith01, I am glad that you are feeling good. I am too. That sucks that they put the wrong size in. I wonder if 25cc is worth going under the knife again. I am not 100% pleased either. They feel soft and all but I did lose a lot of projection that I had with my TEs. My nipples seem low too and I had talked to my PS about this prior. He said that it may not be worth having them put higher. I wonder if things will change as they settle. What do you think out there? Are you wearing a bra? My incisions are below my breast. I have bled a bit and don't know if I am supposed to be wearing anything. I am not 100% sure of what implants I got. They forgot to give me my card. Good luck Meredith!

Yes I do have a clear visual of "Pin the tail" That made me laugh. I love my ps and she is brilliant I just wonder why when we reconfirmed the size 10 minutes before surgery why did she not question the implants were smaller than discussed. I dont want to have another surgery but I will see her on Wed for post op. Never wanted to have bodacious ta tas but I was a 36 c pre and now a 36 small B. Maybe I dont have any pain because the implants are smaller.
Thanks for your insight.

Skippyrcis - You need to get a good support or surgical bra to start wearing 24/7 for at least a month if not longer. Your implants are too big to be swinging free. Do you have good upper pole fullness - roundness at the top of the breast - like you had with your implants prior to the BLM?
Meredith - We will be interested to hear what your PS says about what happened. I personally do not think that 25 cc's is worth going through another surgery. Perhaps 50 cc's...yes. But give it some time because many women have some "fluffing" or more fullness which develops a month or so after the exchange.

Just want you to know that I had an appointment with my PS last week and I am going to have some revisions next month. No specific date yet. I will be getting fat grafts to help with the rippling and the step-off on the left side. My PS said another option to fat grafts is to take a "tuck" of skin at the outer edges of the incision line, which lifts the implant up into the upper pole. However, I did not like the idea of losing ANY of my OWN tissue - obviously in case I opt to go to a higher profile and larger cc implant down the road. So fat grafts it is....

whippetmom - so sorry about another surgery, but it's better than resigning yourself to something you're not happy with. Does your ps have a thought on what caused the rippling & step-off? You may have already addressed that before, but I've forgotten. It just seems that no matter how much we try to be "educated consumers/patients" there are still plenty of things completely out of our control........
meredith - we'll all be interested in what your ps says. Hard to believe you have to endure another surgery for something not your fault.....

You know you're a mother when...
You wake up on Mother's Day and the right side of your 15 year old sons face is horribly swollen, and you assume it is lymphoma (because you are a mom who has had cancer) and drag yourself out of bed and have a friend drive the two you to urgent care, since you are barely functioning from your surgery a few days ago. The urgent care doctor assures you it not cancer, and tells you, you should have stayed in bed to continuing recuperating. He then says your son either has a blocked saliva gland, or the mumps. "Mumps?" you say. "Hmmm" says the doctor. He has had all his shots. Well it must be a blocked gland we will treat it as such, but we will also run a titer on him to rule out mumps and until we get results he should stay home from school, "everyone is so freaked out about everything right now, if the school nurse sees him she'll send him home". OK. Someone comes in the draw his blood, you sit there with your abdominal ssutures flaming in your gut, thinking about all the procedures you've been through since cancer came into you life and wonder if your kid is going to flinch at the thought of having his blood drawn. He didn't, afterwords he smiles at you and says "you've been such a champ, I couldn't whine." With prescription in hand you hobble back to the car and ask your friend to drive you to the market, because, "that wasn't so bad."
You hobble into the store get to the very back and realize you've made a terrible mistake, the pain is searing, but WTH you're here keep shopping. Once back in the car you realize there are tears in your eyes, but you keep quiet, because it was your own stubbornness that caused the pain. I really did need that salmon and brownie.
Yep, you know you're a mom, when your 6'3" baby boy is hurting and you get him help even while it feels like you are going to burst. You know you're a dog mom, too, when you arrive home from the adventure and you're 16 week old Marley look-alike greets you with all the toilet paper in the house seemingly hanging out of her mouth, and your 20 year old who had been left in charge hadn't noticed.
I may no longer have the same breasts that nursed these two young men, I may not have the ovaries they burst from, and I may no longer have the uterus that held them before my arms did, but I'm still "mom." So are all of you.
Kid mom, or dog mom I hope you had a nice day today!
Love,
Karen

Karen (KEW) ~ You should write a book. You really have a way with words and are able to capture the feelings I know I would have felt. I hope you are resting comfortably now and are being taken care of for the rest of the day.

Can anyone give me the names of the implants and where I could go to get information on how to choose the right ones for my body type? I fear leaving this decision up to my PS and want to take an active role in the decision making. I haven't had BM surgery yet but want to research implants so I am up to date on the latest and what would suit me best.

Karen Oh dont' you know it?!? Well written my dear and it brought tears to my eyes. Rest easy tonight.
Sam1991 (Kathie) - I am so sorry to take off your nips date. I am not going to have mine until the fall. I hear it is easier to heal when the weather is cool and the clothes are lose. Plus I don't want to mess up the summer season.
Hope all you mothers are well. I continue to be very happy w/ my implants. I still can't get over being able to sleep on my belly at night. Take care ladies!

It amazes me your youngest is graduating next Friday, you don't even look like you could have an oldest graduating! You did it, and I too, look forward to that day in my house!
Thanks, Peg, I hoped people would get a chuckle even if it is "off topic." I'd love to write, especially now, but wouldn't know what to do with something once I wrote it. My friends all tell me I'm an essayist at heart (never stop talking and write a ton), in my dreams, I guess.
Ladies of the week: I wish you perfect fipples, softness, and quick recoveries!
NVDiane - Fipple one side and Implant other side
5/13 - qutypy - Exchange to silicone
5/13 - Jasmin - Exchange to gummy bears 350-400 cc
5/14 - lopalermo - Exchange
Elaine, my PS did something during surgery that reduced my step-down, it isn't all the way gone, but much improved. I will ask him what he did I see him on Thursday and pass it on.
Love-Karen

Meridith: Obviously, I don't know what happened with your surgery. I do know my PS tried to go higher in size and it stretched my skin too much and she went down 50 cc. Maybe the same thing happened to you? I know for me because I wanted silicone they tried to guess which ones to order, because the OR doesn't ordinarily keep them in stock. I was afraid about what would happen if in the OR they found they needed a diffeerent size and didn't have it. It was a risk with the silicone, but I really wanted it and not saline. I'll keep hoping for you that with time and with things settling that you'll be happy and not want the bigger size.
Whippetmom: With all the help you've given all of us, you sure have a lot of good karma coming to you. This next surgery should be perfect if there is any justice in the Universe
Karen, you said it all

Whippetmom,
Can you tell me where your PS is getting the fat grafts from (which area of the body)? And is it local anesthesia? Thanks...I'm due to have the same in October (the earliest "procedure" date I could get with my PS).
