    Anewme

if I were you I would mention to him that you heard about the new ultra high profile implants from mentor

maybe even print out the PDF from above

so I would think on your cancer side you could use a smooth ultra high profile 535cc which would be 12 by 6.1 (he would have to over fill your TE to acheive this)

your healthy breast use the smooth high profile 375cc which would be 12 by 4.8

or even the 400cc which would be 12.2 by 5.2

If I remember right you said you were a size A so I don't think you'd have a lot of breast tissue on your healthy breast.

Sandy - You are right...I've got a piece of rib cartilage that was harvested during my MX and it is now "living" just below the skin in my groin area.  You can't see it at all but it feels like a small pea under my skin.  About 4 months after my exchange the PS will put it under my skin and somehow suture it up to look like a nipple I guess.  4 months after that he'll tattoo the areola (sp). I think this will be okay for me because I'm a "high beam" kind of girl the majority of the time, usually much to my distress!!! lol

Hi sweeties, sorry so MIA, my dad passed away last night after a long illness and altzheimers' so it's been very busy here.

Boy, things are hopping....first laugh I've had in days when I read "tatts for Titts".....laughed right out loud, at that one!  Thank you!!!

Yvonne, I'm with you, Saggy Aggy is my low flyer.  Does yours pull the newbie down also?

Also, anyone with lat flaps, are you having issues wearing a regular bra?  My incision is right under the bra strap and it makes it swell up.  Any tips?

    love to you all

p.s.: Yvonne, those "dimmers" have really helped me with my remaining high beam.  Sandy, I think,, suggested that I put the fake nip on, but the new girl is so high up and Saggy Aggy so low, my nips would be unaligned.

So with a little stuffing in the new girl, a big old joist to Saggy Aggy and a dimmer switch on her, I can now match in thin summer tops....

Annie - I am so sorry for your loss. My father passed away Feb. 15th and right to the end he was more concerned about not being here to help me beat this cancer than his own health. I will keep you and your family in prayers.

whippetMom - Managed to see my ONC today as well as a first meeting with the PS. It was encouraging and I think I'll be happy with him. He did say he could get me some photos of the work he's done so after our next meeting I'll decide if he's the one.

My measurements are - 5'6, 140 lbs, rib cage 31. I'm currently wearing a 36 C bra but somehow that doesn't sound right now that I've measured my rib cage! Oh well, they say the majority of women are not wearing the right bra size, I guess I just proved it!...lol If you could help me figure out what type/size implants would be good I'd appreciate your input.

that bra size does sound right

I think they say to come up with your band size measure your rib cage than add 4 or 5 inches to get band size

do you have TE put in yet?

my560sel - Well, I personally think that if you want to be where you are now - around a "C" cup - look at high profile and extra high profile implants.  You probably want to stay with a width of no more than 13.6 cm.  You are the second person who has come to Exchange City BEFORE mastectomy or before expanders.  So you have the ability to play a role in this from the very beginning and determine what is important to you regarding your reconstruction.  Here are some options:

Allergan Natrelle Silicone - Style 20 - High Profile

475 cc's..........12.6 cm diameter by 5.5 cm projection

    500 cc's ........13.0 cm diameter by 5.2 cm projection

Allergan Natrelle Silicone - Style 45 - Extra Full Profile

550 cc's..........12.4 cm diameter by 6.0 cm projection

    Or

Mentor High Profile Silicone Smooth Round

500 cc's...........13.2 cm diameter by 5.3 cm projection

550 cc's............13.6 cm diameter by 5.5 cm projection

    Or

Mentor Extra High Profile Silicone Smooth Round

550 cc's............12.1 cm diameter by 6.3 cm projection

Keep in mind that with EXTRA FULL profile implants, you will have more height.  They will be taller than the standard HIGH profile.  Go to Page 99 of this thread where I posted the way to measure the distance from your sternal notice to your nipples - and somewhere below that post is a conversion calculator to change from inches to centimeters.   See if you have a sufficient SN to N distance for tall height implants.

So just make sure your PS uses moderate or full/tall height expanders - Allergan and Mentor both have them.  Allergan has moderate and full height expanders with VARIABLE projection and those would work also to get you where you want to be.

Laura - My ribcage measurement is 32 and I wear a 34 D bra.  That bra is way too big for you!  You must have that hook fastened on the very last three notches!!  Try a 34 band size bra but you need to go up a cup size.  So if you are a 36 C, you try on a 34 D bra.

Estepp, Looks like you forgot one size.  Does the 36C = a 34D??  I think I heard that here before.  Good luck!

    Laura is WEIRD

I measure 29 and i wear a 34 band....When buying a new bra you are to use the first set of hooks and then as the bra stretches with age you can take it up using the other hooks.  I usually find myself using the second set of hooks on a new bra....32 band is us too tight...guess I am in-between.....you are weird...quack quack

even though Laura is weird I still love her : - )

scippy one time at VS I heard them call that it's sister size

as in 34D is the sister to 36C

There are two different schools of thought regarding band/bra sizing.  One has you adding 4 if the number is even and 5 if the number is odd.  However, Victoria's Secret and www.barenecessities.com measure the rib cage and go up 2 or 3.  At VS, the girl with the tape measure whipped it around me and immediately said, "34 band size!"  So this can be confusing and I think you just wear what feels comfortable.

I was on a breast augmentation website and want to share some of the aspects plastic surgeons evaluate when considering breast implants for "augmentation."  It states as follows:

"Don't get too set on an cc size. The exact same size implants will look different on different women. Factors a PS considers in size: "

    Chest shape
    Rib size
    Breast shape
    Breast base dimension
    Breast volume
    Breast Width
    Tissue stretch characteristics
    Sternal depth
    Pregnancy history
    Height
    Weight
    Other

since we are talking about bras...my ps told me when i go out to buy new bras that i should take the underwire out if they have one.  anyone else get this advice?  i didn't question him, because i was still in the hospital, nicely medicated. i'm going to ask him about this on thursday, but wondered if anyone else had heard this.

Sandy/whippetmom, thanks again for such helpful information.  I am soooo grateful for your patience and for taking time out of your busy schedules to answer my very questions.

I did the math based on what whippetmom posted on p99 to calculate implant size, and it looks like my PS is pretty much on target with the moderate profile plus.

That said, since whippetmom mentioned that the double fold happens if the implant diameter protrudes beyond the inframammary fold's ability to stretch, is there a way to calculate how much the IMF can stretch? Perhaps my PS is right in using the 12 cm vs. wider to avoid future complications -- esp. since Mentor research study has shown that use of implants over 350 cc is likely to have long-term complications.

I have heard this too.  Reason is that the wire could poke the implant.  I think most wire bras have been redesigned to prevent the wire from poking.  Also, if you have one that fits well then it sould not poke into you.   My PS put me into a wire bra for 2 weeks after my exchange to help form the crease (breast fold) and he has not said anything about not wearing wire......Just like everything else to do with this recon journey, all doctors are different.  I say just use your common sense.  That is what I am doing this time...I just had a revision on one side and I am wearing a sports bra 24/7 until it is good and healed....that girl is staying put.....LOL

anewme - I do not know what your current situation is with your breasts.  Do you have ptosis?  Is your nipple pointing downward and at the level of the inframammary fold/crease?  You would need to have this sort of complication...and require a lift to get the NAC out of the fold.  Based on your breast size, it does not sound like you have this complication at all.  Do not worry.  That IMF can stretch.  There are women who are cosmetically augmented from size "A" to size "D" and larger and they do not encounter a double bubble or double fold defect.  Here is another pictorial of the double fold defect and it explains what needs to occur for this defect to present itself.

Karen:  My PS told me to cut the wires out of a push up bra.  So I cut the wires out of a brand new Victoria's Secret bra before I realized they SELL wireless push up bras.  Wacoal makes them and Victoria's Secret makes them....and I think a number of other mfr's make them also.  I really like my new VS Angels wireless push up.
