Ok first weird thing since my exchange on Thursday - I was combing my hair and when I brought my arm down, my right implant gurgled. Anyone else have that? I'm guessing it was an air bubble, but weird to hear that. Hoping to lose this Velcro bra at my postop on Tuesday. It is a major pain!!!!

Cheryl...I had the same thing happen this morning. I had one drain and got it out yesterday and that is the side that gurgled. I thought maybe it was some fluid. I had my exchange last Monday and my PS said I could wear what ever bra I wanted but a sports bra would probably be best. I went and got two that fasten in the back as I cannot pull them over my head. I have no projection at all on my right side as they had to remove my nipple to get clear margins. I am wondering if I can find a bra that would give me some projection. Anyone have any suggestions?
Sandra.... have a great cruise.

Mommie.....I only had 1 drain on each side for my BMX......
Exchange surgery was so so easy for me.....one pain pill, NO more....not even tylenol, and felt normal all day afterwards, did not even rest(NO DRAINS)....but all PS are different
All my other "chest" surgeries...NO DRAINS

I hear a squishy gurgle once in awhile.

My PS told me to expect some gurgles/sloshing. It did go away fairly quickly.
I had no drains with exchange. I believe that the more pocket work you have done the more likely you are to need drains.

Too cool that two of you will be visiting Cozumel! DH and I spent a day there on our honeymoon cruise 31 years ago. Rented a jeep with another honeymoon couple and cruised around for the day. Enjoy the fun in the sun!
Mommy - I have silicone rounds but my PS does one drain tube per side as a standard practice with exchange surgery. Only had them 3 days this time instead of six for two weeks with the BMX though. And, like Di2020, I had virtually no pain after exchange and was still wide awake at midnight that night!

Algranna, you don't need to pull the sports bra's over your head, just step in to them and pull them up. I did it that way even before my surgery. So much easier. Otherwise, they are always twisting the wrong way, etc. When you step in hold the bra in the right position by the shoulder straps and they always stretch enough to go over your hips.

Sandra, your trip sounds fantastic! Have a wonderful time for all of us!

OK....I seriously have to try the 'sports bra up over my hips' thing....I am quite sure mine would never stretch like that....but, I'm going to try it!!!! LOL!

So I'm scheduled for surgery on Wednesday, and woke up with a sore throat and runny nose. I can't be getting sick! I don't want to postpone my surgery!

does anyone know if my PS can take my nipple and areola which was spared on my non cancer side during MX? I am not sure why my BS pushed me to save it but for many reasons including symmetry and cancer reoccurrence risk I would like it gone. I am done filling my TE's and meet with him tomorrow to plan exchange surgery. Thank you!!

SO READY for my first postop tomorrow!!! PS has me in a Velcro bra and it is killing me!!!! I've never worn anything so tight in my life and it is making huge indents under my arms and other spots. Makes everything so much more tender. I am praying she will not put it back on and I will finally get some relief!!! And I will finally get to see my new foobs!

cjc1961 - Good luck tomorrow! Here's hoping no more Velcro bra and perky new foobs for you!

Andrea, before my surgery my grandson was sick, son was sick, and hubby was sick, sniffles, colds sore throats, and hacking coughs....hubby
moved out of the bedroom, and I drank lots of Black tea and two 2 zinc a day and lots of water......I "dodged the bullet"....the sniffles disappeared over night.....PS did give me his cell number, in case I was sick....I could cancel
Good thought and hugs for you impending surgery....I love your avatar picture!!!!

no drains on my exchange.

Thanks Di! I think I have some zinc, so I'll start taking it. Keep your fingers crossed!
That photo is 2 or 3 years old. It was taken BC; Before Cancer! I think I've aged a bit since then.

I had the exchange surgery on Jan 9, developed a hematoma in the fat grating area in upper pole, which was drained under local anesthetic on Jan 13. Hematoma came back and PS took the implant out, irrigated the area, and drained it while I was under light sedation on Jan 16. Took massive antibiotics for a week to prevent an infection. I thought my implant would feel better than it does by now. Chest is still tight. Pec muscle is really messed up (in spite of constant physical therapy). I understand that this is a long process, and each person's journey is different, but how long does it take typically for the implant to feel and look better? I'm really just about to give up hope for a good outcome.

mnmbeck, if they stretch enough to go over your shoulders they will pull over you hips, I promise.
Mimi, I don't see why not. It shouldn't be a big procedure. I just hope he will not make it a separate procedure from your exchange.
cocok, hope you feel better soon. I had a hematoma once after a lumpectomy years ago. It was no fun.

Good mornin'
It's been awhile since I checked in, and wondered if this incredibly helpful group had some advice. Had a bmx in June and exchange in November. Since I wanted to stay close to my original size, do have these lovely scars across the girls. Was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for something that will help the scars fade.
Thanks!

Good morning!
Jumping into this forum here - I have my exchange surgery scheduled for next Tuesday (Jan 28/14).
Remove this rock hard TE, exchange to an implant, and lift my native breast, and (hopefully) a small implant on that side too.
Any idea how long this surgery should last?? And PS has told me there will be drains...ugh!
Nervous and excited all at the same time, happy that this surgery shouldn't be as bad as the MS, or my lat flap/TE procedure.
And, like others, I can't stop looking at boobs - everywhere!! hahah

dayzoo - my exchange was a swap out of two TEs for implants with just a tiny bit of pocket work (released more muscle so lefty would settle a bit lower to match righty). I think it was right around 3 hours. The drain tubes are a major pain in the ass but they do serve a good purpose so please be patient with it. Better to have that fluid exiting your body than your body having to work to reabsorb it. With my PS it's SOP with exchange but with others it's not. I was thrilled that it was only two tubes for 3 days instead of the six tubes I had for 1-2 weeks with the BMX. Those m-effers had me bawling my eyes out more than once by the time they came out, and had me cussing like a sailor with each of the six removals! Best of luck to you on the exchange - you'll soon cross over to the squishy side!

BoatinGirl-------->
I use scar away strips.....they are washable and last about two weeks.....a box of 8 strips is around $20....it is ok to cut them.....so right now little patches over all 5 of my fat transfer holes, on the an incision between my foobs, and below & above my new fake nips on the tiny incisions.
Dayzoo------->
My exchange took just under an hour.

hey Boatin- glad to see you popping back, have been wondering , down the street, how you are.
My exchange also took about an hour. Went for my 2d check up today, all healing well. REally no swelling, but can see areas of fat especially on the left, that will need removing. Next appt is 2/13, hope to get him to schedule some work for shortly after that. And will discuss projection then...but the healing is good. Might start the scar away also.

Does anyone remember the medical term for removal of the excess skin/tissue under the arms to the outside of the implants (aka: mud flaps)? Someone posted it a while back.

cocok, i hope your exchange feels better soon. Day zoo, my exchange took about 3 hours. Andrea, I used zinc tablets to help my sniffles before sx. It worked. Mnm, I too could put on my cami's by pulling them up at first until I could move and bend better. I liked the cami's better then sports bras because there was something to grab onto when I did start putting them on overhead. Mimi, I would say he'd do it at exchange cause hell be on both breasts then anyway. I hope Sandra is enjoying her cruise! Cj, here's hoping you can be freed from the tight vest! And that your foobs are awesome!
Much love to all. (And, yes, this thread dropped off my favorites AGAIN! Ug!)

Greetings, ladies! Most of you don't know me since it's been a good while since I was actively posting here on EC, and BCO in general. Today is a special day, however, which I just could not allow to pass without reaching out to all my sisters here. Five years ago today was my bilateral mastectomy……which means that as of TODAY I AM OFFICIALLY FIVE YEARS CANCER-FREE!!! I cannot begin to express my gratitude to those of you who supported me throughout my reconstruction journey and these past few years, especially our beloved Whippetmom, without whom many of us would have felt lost and alone. Hugs to all of you!!
