whippetmom - I'm less than an hour away from Denton - that's really close by Texas standards! Would love to meet you if you have time. Feel free to PM me.

Val61- I understand your fear of nausea. I have it, too. When I had my bx, I told them that the anesthesia mades me sick. So, they gave me a patch similar to the patch you wear on a cruise. They also gave me meds throughout surgery. Sure enough, I woke up nauseous. They got it under control fairly quickly though. Then on day 3 post op I became so nauseus and it didn't go away for 5 days. I was a complete wreck. I was so irrational that I called my PS and told him to take my TE's out. I was convinced that the te's were making me sick. I don't know if it was post anesthesia nausea or all the meds I was on, but I was so sick. So, of course, I am obcessing about the possible nausea that could accompany my exchange in two weeks. I think, or hope that the exchange will be so much quicker that we won't have time to get overly nauseous. I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed for both of us.
Dani- Glad that things are looking better for your girls. Are you tired from your first day back at work? I always feel like people are looking at my chest. Some people know that I had the BM, so I think they are trying to figure out what exactly I have going on. I don't think they understand the whole te process and I certinaly don't feel like telling just a casual aquaintance.
Looking forward to hearing from mooma and firni.

Hello Ladies!!!! It has been so long since I have posted but I have been checking in here and there. After the kids got out of school which happened to be 6 weeks after my exchange, things got so busy and I was planning a cross country trip that we just got back from. We covered 4000 miles and traveled through 17 states and stopped in 9 cities. What an experience - from seeing buffalo graze in South Dakota to eating biscuits and grits in Georgia! I thought of many of you when I was in different states. It was a great bonding experience for our family. The most amazing thing is that I did most of the driving and I thought back to right after my MX when I had such trouble even moving the steering wheel or closing the door. It felt like such a huge step forward.
My implants have changed so much as well and have dropped a bit (which I wanted). I don't wear a bra when I sleep at night anymore. They are even softer now than they were 2 months ago. Right after my exchange I was happy to have the TE's out and they looked better, but I was a little disappointed. People (non-bc) kept saying, "SO, are you so excited?" I really wasn't and I thought, shouldn't I be happier. But then I was trying to think of an analogy and what I thought was - If your house burned down and you got a new one would you be SO excited? No. You would be grateful to have a new home but something was lost along the way and that's what I finally realized about my implants.
I wish all of you the best and continued recovery.
Love,
Peg

Hi ladies. I'm home and doing great. The surgery took less than an hour, which was good. Surgery started at 11:00 and I was home by 1:30. I'm having more pain than I thought I would. but Percocet is my new best friend again. Just love those little guys. I can already tell the difference in the placement in the right implant, even with the bandages on. I go for my first post-op appt. tomorrow morning. PS will take the dressing off then and I'll get a good look at what he did. I think I'll be pleased. I'll post some pics on the forum when the dressing is off and DH is back to work.
Peg, I love your analogy about replacement foobs and a replacement house. That is something anyone can relate to.
Off for a little snooze. Thanks again for your positive thoughts and prayers.

This is as good a place as I can think of to ask a question about what your doctors have told you about follow up after mastectomy. My oncologist told me I would have twice yearly mammograms and when I relayed this information to my PS she said, "no, you are NOT going to be having mammograms." This was after my last appt. with her and I was too focused on the fat grafts revision to pursue it further. What have you been told, now that your exchange is complete, about follow up care? Has the word "mammogram" been mentioned?

Thank you beautiful ones for all the support and caring words. You ladies rock!
Dani and Firni - such positive news! I hope things continue to go along well.
Deborah - I'll bet you were such a darling little child full of the light and kindness you extend now.
Deen, Karen, Estepp, JK, Jan, Deborah, Peggio - (((((( hugs of gratitude)))))))
It is sooo good to hear about the successes and the stops and starts and..... alllllllllll!!!!!!!
Mooma - hope it went alright today....
Anniealso - Your use of the words "hamburger bunny" - made me laugh. I love the analogies that come up here!
Thank you for the continued hope!

Deborah - I just had a follow-up with my breast surgeon and she stated that I would not have mammograms, just manual breast exams from here on out. Since the muscles and tissue are so close to the surface any changes will be easily felt. And should something be found, I would have a breast MRI.

Hi Deborah - I will have a breast exam (but no mammogram) with my breast surgeon every 6 months.

Deborah - My doctors have said the same as Denise and Peggio.

((Dani)) what a smart woman to not ignore the elephant in the room. (Not that your foobs are elephants) but you removed the awkwardness by bringing the topic of your changes out in the open. You are a very wise woman. Glad you survived the first day back at work.
Val161, I cannot take any pain med with any opiates in them, this includes codeine, darvocet, Morphine, vicodin, tylenol #3, and it doesn't matter if it the opiates are synthetic, I still get sick. The first pill OK, after the second pill. . .it is all over with. I was so scared to have the mx since I don't do opiates, the PS (he really is good) gave me percocet! My new best friend, this was the first time ever after the mx that I got pain relief without nausea. Toredol is the other med I used for pain relief. Toredol is for very short term use, under 5 days has high bleeding risks, it is a super duper concentrated Motrin like medication. No one should have to have nausea now. I would pull a "Laura " and tell the anesthesiologist and Surgeon, if I wake up sick, you might want to put me back under and try again!
((Peg)) loved the analogy and I am gald that you are back and that your foobs are doing well.
((Firni)) I am so happy for you, I think you have the record for the fastest exchange time and return home. I didn't know that they drive thru windows for exchanges, did you get fries with that?
((Deborah)) No mammogram on the mx side, mammogram on the natural side every year. Due in October. MRI every 3 years to check for leaking.

Excellent! Thank you everyone.....I now have an appt. with my breast surgeon in three weeks and I will ask to see her every 6 months! I think I will have to throw a big 'ole temper tantrum to get an MRI every three years with Kaiser, but I think I remember how to have one ....a temper tantrum that is....
It is so great to see Peggio back with us!!!!

Deborah, I have a 6 month check up in Sept with my BS, and after that I believe I need an MRI every two years ... I'm anticipating a struggle with my insurance company already. I am still fighting them to pay for my AlloDerm and for all of my fills which were denied. I filed an appeal and copied my senators, etc. What a hassle. My "girls" seem to be changing - they are definitely lower than two weeks ago, and they move more. Maybe it was the dancing I did over the weekend at a beer festival??? Happy healings to everyone!

Jan, actually, I got Animal Crackers, no fries. I didn't have an exchange. I had a revision to one side so it really was pretty fast. The pre-op stuff took longer than the surgery which was only 50 min. I woke up really fast and was ready to go an hour after surgery was over. The nurses were quite surprised at how quickly I recovered from the anesthesia. I believe it's because I drank lots of water the two days before surgery and took my Alpha Lipoic Acid. I'm more sore than in pain this morning. I want PS to Rx Ibuprofen 800 for me so I don't have to take the Percocet. It's a little too, ehem, constipating for me.
Deborah, my onc, gyn and pcp all said no mammograms. Just exams. Altho, my gyn said I'd notice anything before they would coz if anything showed up it would be at the surface of the skin. MRIs every 2-3 years to check the implants.
Mooma, hope your exchange went well yesterday and you're feeling better today.

Had to pop in, haven't been to the site inawhile, work has kept me very busy.
Dani, one of my coworkers that I know well finally told me to heck with it I just have to look, wow you look good. Cracked me up. Actually took her a few weeks to not stare but she's over it.
Misty, happy to "see" you again and so good to hear you're doing well. Hope Malcolm is too.

Thank you sisters for all the encouragement....I made it through. I've never heard anyone say this before but I can still see and feel the implant is this normal? ...is that what you mean by fluffing? Duh...lol My ps lowered the nipple that was higher so they would match a little better. I actually would have liked him to make the lower one higher but at this stage of the game I'm not complaining about that! My incision is under my breast so he said no bra until that is healed. I have a before pic on the picture forum and I will add some 'after' soon.
Misty....TXBadboob told me about this resizing site and it's real easy. www.picresize.com. Good luck! How is Malcolm doing???

Deborah, my PS said no mammos, just MRIs. My onc will be doing bloodwork every two mos also.
Misty, saw your pics and you look great! Hope you heal fast.
I know this is off topic, but I just have to tell you: My DS and DDIL came over this morning to announce that they will be having a baby!!!!! I'm gonna finally be a gramma!!!!!Woohoo!!!!!

eb, my Onco said no mammogram for me, Mooma and Firni, hope you are healing and feeling better. OncRN and kbram, prayers to both of you on your coming exchange. Been busy on my work and today is my day-off... Wowwwwww lot's of catching-up on reading emails.
I am at 410cc so far and will have another fill tomorrow. I've asked my ps the last time to add 60 cc each visit. That went well my skin and muscle. I think that I can handle 180 cc more which will give me a total of 590 cc. My TEs capacity is 550 cc. I wonder if my TEs can handle 40 cc over the capacity. I think my skin can. What do you guys think.

Deborah - I was also told after bi-lateral that no more mammo's. MRI's - but not sure how often.
Laura - Went to your pics and you look absolutely wonderful!! I'm noticing some subtle changes and hope my buns start popping. Keep up the posts - you have had me laughing!
Firni - glad to hear your revision was a success!
This board is really wonderful - just hard to keep up!

Hi ladies,
Just wanted to say Hi, introduce myself and join your thread. I do not have an exchange date yet but I'm told it will be in this lifetime. Just finished rads 3 weeks ago and starting the fill process again. I'm here to listen and learn. I want to thank everyone who takes the time to post and share, this board has been my secret weapon during this fun and fab time in my life0 -
deen, heartfelt congrats on your extra special good news!
"If your house burned down and you got a new one would you be SO excited? No. You would be grateful to have a new home but something was lost along the way and that's what I finally realized about my implants."
Peg, thanks so much for posting that. I couldn't put my finger on my lack of exhuberance. You summed it up perfectly.
Deborah, my BS told me twice yearly MRI's, but that was back in February, and maybe I misheard. I see her in October, so I'll clarify then. Gah, now I'm freaking that my insurance won't cover two MRI's per year. *fret*
did you get fries with that? ... lol!
hello & welcome, lynn. i agree with the secret weapon thing. i shudder to think how i would've managed without this special corner of cyberspace, and the wonderful, kind & strong women here.
apologies to anyone who's responded to my pics in the secret place. i don't want to peak in there from work, and i keep forgetting to check when i get home. i'm a bit self-conscious as to how HUGE my implants look in those photos. when you see all of me, they look quite normal.
Soothing healing vibes to all my recent fellow surgery gals!
