Jan - So happy for good news about your sis! Prayer is an amazing thing...
I just heard back from my onc's office - RN was out yesterday and they didn't want anyone else trying to deal with me apparently! (I must have sounded REALLY crazed!) Anyway, the main thing is that the FISH was completely negative - yippee! HOWEVER, the path report that I have was never sent to the onc - they were working off one from my initial biopsy. Very interesting.....so.......the RN is talking to my onc today about the PR now being negative and if that has any implications. Probably not, she said. I'm heading to visit my sis in So. Carolina today for the holiday - and my b-day tomorrow (48 - closing in on the big 50!), so hopefully I won't get any bad news to wreck my vacation! I'll check back in when I get home.
Enjoy the holiday weekend, y'all!

Val HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! You will be joining both Susie and myself in the 48 bracket! I'm also glad that you got relieving news! It's so awful when we are confused and think the worst! Thank heavens for all of our TaTa sisters to give us support! It's so beyond wonderful isn't it!
Jan I am still praying for your sister and I hope she comes out ok today!!! PLEASE keep us updated when you have the chance.

biscuit: Was it possibly Silimed [Sientra] silicone implants? I am curious - could you call and find out what he was talking about. The clinical trials for Silimed/Sientra products commenced in May of this year...so perhaps he is one of the approved plastic surgeons?0

Diane - I'm jealous - I want chin lipo!
Thanks all for the welcomes.
I know that my PS uses Mentor products and will be using 550mLs for my exchange - that's about all I know. I have to ask him when I have my pre-op appointment.

I have been gone for a wjile and I came back to about 6 pages to read. Wow, you ladies are busy. I have skimmed everything over to try to catch up though.
Cookymkr- I wish i could answer your question. I have only had my implants for 3 weeks, so I am no expert. I'm sure someone will come along who can offer you some advise. Mine are still tight, but I think it's somewhat better this week.
Val61- You must have gone crazy when you saw that report. It sounds like everything is working out for you. Let us know what they say. ((hugs)) Enjoy your vacation, and Happy Birthday.
Jan- What a horrible ordeal for your sister. I will add her to my prayer list. I hope all goes well today as they wean her off of the vent. I think I read that she was having an elective procedure?? That's so scarey.
Annie- Glad everything turned out well for you.
Good luck to all of tomorrows procedures.
Cheri- did you make it to open house?

Teresa - I went and looked at your pictures and I think you look great!!! However....your foobs look like mine.....but, wait a minuite. I was unhappy with my implants. Now you have me rethinking my disappointment of my implants.
Really Teresa, you look fabulous! Let's just wait this out together. We can compare notes on how long it takes for us to like the new girls.

To those who have had nipple reconstruction -- How painful is it? I had my preop visit today, and the PS said a prescription for pain meds was not needed; that Tylenol would suffice. Is this correct? I am worried about being in pain, and unable to sleep. He also did not order antibiotics this time, either.

Tomorrow is your day!!!! yahoooooo
I had grafted areola's with my nipple recon so I may not be the one to respond to your question. My grafted areas were really sore for a while but as far as the nipple areas, they are numb....I did take a round of antibiotics and had a script for pain meds but did not take any.
the best to you tomorrow
I will post pictures of my nipps when I get back from my trip next week...

Denise! You are so sweet- no and I cried! It is the first one I have ever missed. I did call the elementary school and tell my situation too the principal who left a note for the teacher and she called and asked if she could come over!!! So, she came to our house the day before my surgery and stayed a full hour!!! My folks were down from DC to take care of the boys during my surgery so she got to meet the entire crazy clan! haha! I was real upset though about missing my 8th graders because that will be the only time I would have gone into his school. (He is mortified he has parents! so me going up for lunch or anything is totally out of the question) My husband went. My 8th grader did come upstairs and tell me all about it when he got home though. I think he felt sorry for me because as he was telling me all about his classes I got all teary eyed!
I am feeling better and showered while they were gone but had to take a valium today and pretty loopy from that. I saw the PS yesterday and he took out my drains and stitches but my pecs are still pretty sore, especially my sternum!!!! I guess he had to do a lot of work in there to pull my boobs back together so they are closer to each other. I think I had a lot more work than you guys- my first PS was not good! Anyway- the girls look good and now I am to put steriod strips on them for the scars. I still have red marks (looks like bug bites) all over my breasts where there were stitches. It looks strange, so when they go away I will get a better feel for the look. But I am happy so far with the softness but still can't sleep on my side. It hurts. He said he stitched my pecs under my arm all the way up so those implants aren't going anywhere!!!
He made me laugh when I saw him yesterday. I told him my sternum was hurting but I was trying to not take a valium so I could have a glass of wine when I got home and he said- nothing washes down a valium as good as a nice glass of wine! You have total permission to have your glass of wine and valium too. haha! Thanks for that doc!
I just must be a terrible healer because I truly was in the bed for a total 6 weeks after my BMX. Tomorrow will be a week and I am still in pain from this one! UGH!!!!

I have been happy with my implant/implants, unilateral with small implant on non mx side and lift. I didn't go much bigger than what I already was, they're just "up" here more. I think I've had pretty realistic expectations.
The picture site has also been very helpful as I've always said I didn't have anything to compare it to. Now with the selfless contributions of our sisters, I can relate better how my outcome is.
Blessings all around,
Paula

Paula,
I just saw a post from someone who had a unilateral but was not offered an implant on the non mx side with lift as you have because her PS said she would have had to pay out of pocket for that. Did you?? I know a bilat is covered, but what about implant/lift without the mx? I hope you don't mind my asking, but I thought that if that was the case, it is pretty unfair!
God Bless!

You must have posted while I was typing, I'm so sorry for all of the revisions you had to go through. My goodness it's bad enough to go through it once but twice ? It sounds like you've got a good PS now. I will be praying for a speedy and uneventful recovery this time around.
Blessings to you,
Paula

Oh Paula! Thank you!!! I only went through it once though but the PS that put in my initial TE I didn't like him and then got another PS midway through my saline injections so I think he had to do a lot of stuff to make up for bad pockets and things.
It is my understanding that it is the LAW federal law for women to have both breasts paid for by their insurance! No matter if it is unilateral or bilateral!

Angel10,
I don't mind your question at all ! That's how we all learn. My PS did the small implant on the non MX (right) side at the same time as my exchange on the MX (left) side. She thought just maybe it would pull the right side up enough that I may not need the lift. That was last Nov '08. After the swelling went away and things settled out it was obvious I would need the lift. I could have done nipple recon in May but waited until Aug as my summer was so busy with Kids and Grandkids I didn't want to be restricted with my activities. So on Aug 10th she did a lift on the right and used tissue from that to do nipple recon to the left.
I have never been told I would have to pay out of pocket for the right to match the left. Of course before each surgery the surgery scheduler contacts my insurance company for prior authorization.
Blessings,
Paula

I think your right about that law........................... I also think that it is true with revisions if the results aren't good

Angel _ I see you are in NYC _ curious who your PS was ??
Whippet Mom - I asked to NYC PS's today about a new silicone - neither knew - I will email the BS who brought it up and get back to you!

welcome Paula...
it sounds like I had the same thing done that you had done and I didn't have to pay any of it (except co -pays ect)
I even got a new implant on my cancer side and didn't have to pay for wanting to change that out
Val I was also 2+ but my fish test came back negative : - )
I sure hope the best for all of you ladies (((HUG)))

Best wishes to you tomorrow Robin! 1 more step will be done. I have a follow up appointment with my PS in a couple of weeks and I am hoping he will say I am ready for my nip! He told me 3 - 4 months post exchange and I am there now. I am scared and looking forward to it at the same time. Summer has been challenging with one real nipple and nothing on my foob! I went through a box of bandaids!
Good luck to Pam and Gibby too! My thoughts and prayers are going out to you tonight!

((((((((((Jan))))))))))))) - I finally had time to read a bunch of the older posts and I am so sorry to hear about your sister. Praying hard for her and for you to have the strength to help her during this time.

Thanks ladies for your posts regarding the "good" implant being covered....without an MX...I thought so but did not want give wrong advice! Of course, if it is not in the USA it may be different....
Biscuit...my PS is Dr. Jin Chun, Dept Chair of Microsurgery at Mt. Sinai. I love him! 4 of my sisters went to Sloan, and I totally appreciate the work done there, but I did not have good chemistry with the BS there...I am sure she does good work, (none of my sisters used her, but still you don't work in Sloan w/o having something going on!) but I could tell she did not "approve" of my decision to go with a BMX. I understood her medical reasons, but it is more than just clinical with this choice, and I needed to feel that my BS was supportive. I did not get that there.
I used Christina Weltz as my BS, and Chun as my PS. I think they are great!
God Bless!

Angel: Every state must adhere to certain laws regarding mastectomy. Coverage may vary - certain states have different verbiage - but I believe that although it might be worded differently, I believe every state assures that carriers must cover for surgery "to achieve symmetry on the healthy breast" Here is the link to the laws for the various states to send to that other poster....

As always Deb...you are terrific!
I just went to cut and paste your response to the thread, but then it did come back that she is not in the USA....so not covered.
God Bless..
