Interesting - I too woke up w/ what looked like a burn mark after my nip surgery. It looked like I slid across a gym floor. I think Jazzy has a good possibility. Perhaps it is the tape. I know I wasn't burned.

Blessedby4 - Oh no, I am SO sorry. I will send healthy vibes your way!

Don23 - Personally I think you look great! Hugs!

Anniealso - I was jus thinking of you the other day. I have you as lady in waiting. Are you still waiting??? We missed you! What is your new job?

For those that asked, my son's finger is getting less sore. But it is still taking a lot out of him. He tells me that he gets shooting pains rising from the tip that is not there. I assume that is the nerves trying to figure out what's going on.

Is the 1/2" size difference significant do you think?

NAE and Blessedby4 I pray everything goes well with you.  I work in a hospital and pray daily I don't get sick before my surgery next Monday.  My surgery is also late in the afternoon 2:15 pm. I plan to sleep as late as possible.  I have been so anxious about this surgery that I wake up every hour at night.  I hope I can sleep then.  Good luck and blessings to you both

My surgery is on for tomorrow - so far with the excess fluid nothing has proven to be an infection - I won't know til I wake up after the surgery to know for sure if he exchanged both - but I am banking on both!!  I am a little scared but I know I am in good hands at a good hospital and I've got lots of wonderful people pulling and praying for me.  I'll check back in as soon as I am able.

Jean: YIPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just got a call from the hospital and my exchange date is Dec 17th !! I have to go in this Thursday for pre-op tests and then I guess that's it! I can't believe they managed to squeeze me in before January....I'm so happy I could cry... actually, I am crying!

On another note, I had to see my ONC today because of a swelling in my neck. He's taken me off Tamoxifen for 2 weeks because he thinks  it may be "clot" related. Leave it to me to fall into that 1% risk group. Damn, I hope this doesn't mess things up for the exchange, I'm sooooo tired of these "rockets" !

Deborah: Can you go over again what size implants I should be looking at?? My TE's are Mentor 350's. I'm 5'6, 143 lbs

Hugs to everyone having their  exchanges this week and Blessed, hope you're feeling better!

Terri:  I cannot recall if you have the low height or moderate height TEs.  One is wider than the other. They are 350 cc's but they are overfilled to 450 cc's - correct?  This means you still have the same width - it is just that the projection of the TEs has increased with overfilling.  I think if he could get you into a 500 cc or 550 cc implant you would be very happy.  If he wants to try 600 cc's - that would be the highest volume I would personally choose for you.  It depends on how lax your skin is found to be during surgery.  And we are talking about the Mentor high profile style only. Make sure your PS is not thinking gummy bears and you are thinking silicone rounds.  Get the style solidified in the pre-op.

    So happy for you!!!! Hooray!

VIT. C !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have to get that exchange!!

Texas,,. is 1/2inch too much....... FOR YOU? ... this is what matters. I would want to know WHY... rads skin is different.. BUT.. if the rads side would not stretch anymore... PS should have put a smaller implant on the other side so you match...

These are things I would talk to PS about...

    Awe TERRI.... congrats!

Alitman, Geneskirt, and Nedeza:   Hope all goes smoothly for you all...yeah for having your exchanges and getting this over with.  Will be thinking of you!  You go girls!!!

My560sel:  Congratulations on setting a date!  An early xmas gift to you!!   I start Tamoxifen on next Monday, hope I have no problems with that.  Will be interested to hear what your doc says.

A friend brought over some Marshmallow leaf & root tea and claims it works great but surgery and doctor instructions say they don't want me taking any herbal medications for 7 days prior to surgery. I have a follow up appt. with my surgeon tomorrow (not PS) and will ask him what he thinks.  I am too afraid to call my PS for fear he will tell me that we need to cancel surgery for Friday.  At this point right now I couldn't call anyone being that now I have no voice at all and feeling really sluggish.  Had Herceptin treatment today and hoping the run down feeling is from that.  I just want to cry yet know that God works all things out for a purpose.  If it doesn't happen Friday it still will happen just don't know when.  Patience...not what I want to learn right now.  Am drinking lots of orange juice....who knows maybe this will go ahead as planned!

    Thanks for the encouraging words!

Thanks for all your thoughts & blessings!!!  It is so heartwarming to hear such words of encouragement.  This is what I love about this thread we have woven together!!!

Since my surgery got bumped I've decided to volunteer my time at my son's Jog-A-Thon in the morning.  Hopefully time will pass more quickly by doing this.

Well...Geneskirt & Alitman....Here we goooooo!!!!!   Get a good nights rest!!!

    Bless your hearts everyone!!!!

Can I just mention to all of you late day surgery patients...how is it that if you are first on the schedule like...7:30 AM in the OR you can't eat/drink after midnight the night before...and if you have surgery at 2:00 PM or later, you still can't eat past midnight the night before??? Poppy cock!!  Have tea, coffee, light scrambled eggs, or a piece toast etc. first thing when you get up then stop eating after breakfast. Leave 8 hours between eating and surgery.   It just doesn't add up doing it any other way.

Just my 2 cents and I did it this way myself with no repercussions!

Prayers going out to all the scratchy throats tonight....let's get to surgery and the next step on our journey!!

    God Bless!

Angel10 ~ I already asked regarding the no eating/drinking past midnight.  The nurse said that there's always a  possibilty that your surgery time may get adjusted...AGAIN...by morning.  They will not allow you to have that surgery if you have eaten/drank within that 8 hr. period.  She suggested I not take that chance.  She actually thought about this & almost suggested if I wanted to I could eat/drink up to 4am but she corrected herself with what I just explained.  Makes sense...but does not solve the hunger issue!!! Undecided

Thanks for your 2 cents though....LOL!

    Many hugs!

Blessedby4, healthy prayers to you so that you get your surgery as scheduled.  Quite a few women on another thread have the same symptoms you have.  Keep up the C, drink lots of fluid and rest.

Texas, my BS was more aggressive doing the mastectomy on the right side than he was on the left.  So my right side is smaller by almost 1/2".  Another 50cc on the right side might even things out, but after already having 2 revisions, I'm going to leave it alone as long as both sides fit into the same size bra.  Naked it's pretty noticeable.  In a bra, no one would ever know.  My girls were not the same size before BC so the difference now isn't too big a deal for me.

I went to see New PS (who does the gortex nipples) yesterday and told him I wouldn't be happy with that and would he do a flap reconstruction instead.  He said yes, but the flap nipples tend to go flat.  His nurse said, well then we'll just inject them with Radiesse and plump 'em back up. Not sure if insurance will cover that, but we'll deal with it if the time comes.  So happy day.  I love a PS who will work with me and not just tell me what I need to have!  Anyway, nipple surgery is December 10!!!  My breasts have consumed my life for the past 14 months and now, in 3 weeks, I'll pretty much be done.   I'll have to find something new to obsess about. ;)

Healing prayers and gentle hugs to everyone having surgery this week.

Edit:  I don't know why my surgery date looks like that.  It seems like formatting takes on a life of its own here at times.

Firni, that is good news! When I asked my PS to do my nipples a month after my exchange,my PS asked me what the rush was about? Rush? October was one year since my first mx surgery. That's not rushing things! But like you,I'm anxious to finish so that I can get on with my life and not be so focused on my foobs.

Good luck today to all those having surgeries!!!

hello! I'm new in this topic but I just want to ask if anybody who had the exchange-permanent implant surgery done and felt not to talk about the implant at all? I don't like it when my family ask me what size is my silicone implant and how does it feel now. I just don't want to talk about it.

    Is this a normal feeling?

I just had my surgery last week-Nov. 16

    thanks

Thanks everyone, I'm so happy I could burst! Of course I need something to obsess about now so I'm worried about getting the size and shape right.

Deborah: My TE's are 350's moderate height and he overfilled to 430 cc's. My skin seems to have loosened up since my last fill 2 months ago. I think he was going for 600's but as you say, we'll only know when we he opens me up. I'm sure he's not thinking gummy bears and will put in smooth, round but I'll speak to him before to make sure...I don't want any surprises! My surgery date will be exactly 3 months and 3 days from my last fill so I'm hoping for a good outcome.

Blessed: Good luck with starting Tamox, I'm sure everything will go well for you. My SE is not very common and only further testing will tell us if that's really what it is.

Thanks Michelle! Xmas is indeed coming early !! YIPPPEEEEEEEE !

Swest: Yes, what a great Xmas present!

My surgery for capsular contracture will be next Wednesday, December 2nd at 4pm.  The capsule will be removed and I think another, smaller implant will be placed unless I decide to go without.  It's really a difficult decision for me because I don't want to deal with contracture again and I don't want to go without an implant.  At this point I am leaning toward giving the implant one more shot and then, if contracture happens again, I'll just have it removed.  I'll be sure of my decision by the day of surgery -- LOL.

    Have a wonderful day.

Bonnie, good luck with your surgery. If the implant doesn't work, would you want to go with a flap surgery? That's what my PS says she would recommend.

Angel40: what's normal is anything that is normal for you! If you feel talking about your implants is just too private, then don't. I'd come up with a response such as "Why do you feel the need to know something so personal?" or "I'm not comfortable discussing such a personal subject."

Don't put yourself through any anxiety that's unwarranted!

Texas -- This will be the 4th time my incision has been opened up and I just want the surgeries to be over.  Hopefully, a smaller implant will do the trick, but if not, I'm done and will learn to live with one breast and a prosthesis.

Angel40 -- I don't talk about the size of my implants either.  If someone asks, I tell them it makes me uncomfortable to talk about such personal details and that is usually the end of it.

Angel40 ~ It IS a private matter.   I'm vague about details and have not had anyone ask about size.  If people say "So you have silicone implants/"  I say "Yes, but it wasn't by choice and reconstruction is completely different than augmentation."  If someone asks about size say - I have the size that my doctor and I discussed was right for me.

Angel40, I've been ok with a couple VERY close friends asking for details but pretty much anyone else I say, "Certainly there are more interesting things to discuss than my anatomy."  That usually stops them in their tracks.   Altho, I do like Deborah's reply!

Firni - My PS does nips w the scar tissue. They definitely are very small. But I don't really care. It is all about cosmetics. And I still don't need to wear a bra.

Ladies - Question for those w/ BMx. What kind of follow-up does your bs recommend? My gyn gave me a script for a bilateral mammogram today, but my surgeon says that makes no sense since they won't be able to see anything but the implants. What are your doctor's recommending?

Hugs to all our sisters scheduled for surgery. I tried to catch up on the dates. Let me know if I missed anyone.

mykidsmom,  After my BMx, I was told by my BS, Onc and Gyn that I would never need a mammogram again.  I will still have clinical breast exams to feel for anything under the skin.  Then MRI every other year.  Mostly to check the implants but the MRI will also show the muscle and nodes under the implants as well as the capsule etc. around the implants.  I don't see any reason to do mammograms unless you had nipple sparing and there is breast tissue under the nipple.  But an MRI would see all that too.
