Lots of luck for all the gals getting their exchange surgeries this week!  There's quite a number of you!  Now THAT makes for a good Thanksgiving gratitude!

Hello sisters. Sorry I have been gone for so long. My travel schedule continues to be NUTS!

Jean- I am so sorry about your son! How is he doing now?

Deb/Judy- Question about fat graphting... My PS has already told me to plan on needing fat graphting done- twice- and I haven't even had my exchange yet... it is coming soon- FINALLY! He is sure I will have marked step off due to thin skin and the agreesive method my bilateral was done up to the colarbone and no skin being spared. (Fat graphting is a common procedure for my PS to do anyway). Deb you mentioned that Stratera could be a better bet for women with thin skin. At one time he thought he would use Stratera or Alloderm in the upper pole with me but he has since backed off saying he is really unhappy with the cosmetic results of using it with other cases and has decided against it for me. I was disappointed since I really didn't want more procedures/surgery but I didn't fight his decision to not use it.... now I read it can look lumpy in both the donor site and the upper pole in addition to lumps that need to be investigated to rule out cancer. FOR THE LOVE! Now I feel I should have fought harder to get it. Do we have any ladies out here who had that the material placed in the upper pole? Did it help rippling and prevent needing fat graphting? What are your thoughts---should I go back and press the issue to get the Stratera/Alloderm in the upper pole? At exchange with all the extensive pocket work he has to do is the time to do it if ever I would assume. Surgery is 12/9 and I am traveling all but 3 of those days before surgery.

    Hugs- Packer

packer:  Someone - who was it?  Was it Cheri?  Someone had Alloderm used in the upper pole to address the step-off defect.

My sister thinks I am really negative about my second fat grafting results.  She says that my step-off defects are most definitely corrected.  I have to agree - almost three weeks later - that it is much improved.

But if you could get Alloderm at the same time as your exchange - that might be the way to go....

Deb- Our sweet breast whisper. I will put a call out the doctor tomorrow. I am so glad three weeks later your feeling better about the results. You are so knowledgeable and willing to share with us. We are so fortunate to have you and eachother to talk things through.

    Dear Ladies!

What a great week!  We can all be thankful that our cancers were caught and we have seen ourselves to the point of "re-taking" some of what was lost to this disease....

I am praying for each of you going into surgery this week...and for all the rest who have given me so much support and knowledge this past year....could not have gotten to this point and felt "so whole" without your support and caring nature. Happy Thanksgiving week to each of you!

And a special good luck shout out to:

    Big hugs,

Laura---Can you hear the music?  Got a little wild with Aerosmith and Van Halen today--way different from my usual Steve Earle, Guy Clark, etc!

EC sisters this week... Many blessings to all of you.

Karen- You have no idea how good stomach sleeping sounds.

Laura- Would your PS have opened you back up again to put Alloderm in if the rippling came back with the larger implants? Or would he have added it at you exchange for larger implants? I am not sure my PS will go for it since he commented he doesn't like the cosmetic results so I am just curious what yours was planning.

Packer--It was funny you posted today because I thought of you earlier this morning.  I talked with my friend who lives in Milwaukee, which made me think of tailgating, which made me wonder where you had been of late--then surprise you were there!  My friend loves the Packers and Brewers--sounds like their games are a blast.

You will be on your stomach in no time and it is delicious!

I've been an avid consumer of the generous advice shared by all of you for a few months.  Happy to post a date for exchange surgery on 12/9/09.  My last fill date is 11/30.  This is a short period of time between the last fill and the surgery.  It appears on many of the posts that I have read that there is often months between the last fill and exchange surgery.  Can anyone explain the rationale for the longer time period?

    Thanks for your feedback,

    This Day Forward

Packer... I already had a second exchange... Oct 28th..:)... the bigger implant fixed my rippling so far...

I ask PS... about three months back.. when all the girls here were talking about step offs.. and rippling... what he would do. He  said... Alloderm  and fat grafting in the upper pole for step off and fat grafts OR bigger implant for rippling... in my case..

    SONG LYRICS

This song appears on the album 'Clouds'

This song appears on the album 'Miles of Aisles'

This song appears on the album 'Hits'

This song appears on the album 'Both Sides Now'

This song appears on the album 'Dreamland'

    Both Sides Now

by Joni Mitchell   Printer-friendly version of this lyric

Rows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
    And feather canyons everywhere
I've looked at clouds * that way

But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
I've looked at clouds from both sides now

From up and down, and still somehow
    It's cloud illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all

Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As ev'ry fairy tale comes real
I've looked at love that way

But now it's just another show
You leave 'em laughing when you go
And if you care, don't let them know
    Don't give yourself away

I've looked at love from both sides now
From give and take, and still somehow
    It's love's illusions I recall
I really don't know love at all

Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say "I love you" right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I've looked at life that way

But now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads, they say I've changed
Well something's lost, but something's gained
    In living every day

I've looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
    It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all
I've looked at life from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
    It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all

KAREN/KEW....Download some Joni....  after you enjoy rockin' out....

Thisdayforward - My understanding of the wait between last fill and the exchange is to give the skin time to properly stretch and get comfortable in its stretched position.  I know for me, because I have had radiation, this is especially important because the skin will be more prone to contract.

Karen and Laura - JONI IS MY GODDESS.

Karen - Is stomach sleeping a possibility after exchange?  Dare I hope?

Yes, Geena, there is stomach sleeping after exchange, but ask your PS when you may do so.  Hang in there!

Hi ladies ~ Thanks for supporting me & reassuring me that I'm not crazy to be mad that my PS screwed up my exchange!  My appt is tomorrow and I'll see what she thinks when she sees how ridiculous my foobs look!  I am also asking for a copy of my chart to take to the other PS on the 30th.  What a nightmare.  I have been so upset & disappointed with the exchange outcome.  Today is a week since the surgery and I know it takes time for the dropping, settling & fluffing, but with the mis-matched set she put in me, there will be no bra that would fit.  I was so excited to go buy new bras.  It could be worse I guess, right?

Gentle hugs to the ladies having surgeries this week.

So far so good...no sore throat after all...thank goodness!!!  My surgery got bumped to the afternoon (2:30pm)...nothing to drink/eat after midnight tonight!!!  My friend said to "go shopping" to distract myself from the ravaging hunger pains I will have!

Oh no...I am coming down with a cold and losing my voice this afternoon.  Chemo nurse told me today that if I am sick on Friday that would probably not go ahead with the exchange surgery!  I do not want to hear that!!!  I am ready to get this part done and don't want to have to cancel this.

Nedeza:  Glad your sore throat went away!  Your ready to go!  I also have a late surgery scheduled and don't like the idea of not being able to eat all day.  Will be thinking of you and that your pleased with the results!

Ladies I have a question: my exchange was last week, and my radiated side is about 1/2" less in projection than the other side (where I had a prophylactic mx). I figured it would shift/tighten over time but shouldn't it have started about about the same size? Is 1/2" significant?

I have my follow up on Wednesday.

Also after the surgery, I woke up with a burn mark on my upper chest/shoulder area just about the port scar. At first I thought they'd re-opened the port incision but then it was obviously a burn. I'm thinking someone rested a hot instrument directly on my skin.I just hope it doesn't scar too!

Texas I'm so sorry.  I just had a hysterectomy/ooph and I woke up with what looked like burns or sores on either side of my hipbones.  I could not figure out what they did since my incision wasn't anywhere nere them.  So at my post op I found out I had a reaction to the tape that they used.  Also when she was taking the tape off of my incision she said I had blisters all over from the tape and as she was pulling the tape off my skin was coming with it.  Good thing that part is numb.  I'm just wondering if this could be your situation with the "burn"...maybe, it's just a thought.

Let us kno whow your post op goes! HUGS!
