Jax and Yvonne, you jumped in while I was typing and typing away -- I am MAD too that you two are not healing -- but I'm thankful neither of you have fever or signs of infection. I'm sending some STRONG healing thoughts out to both of you!!

Sheila - Sounds very exciting!!!!  Tummy tuck and fipples! What more could a girl ask for??? Thanks for the advice on fibrocystic breasts - I'll be sure to pass it on to her.  She did say that she would have to be monitored more often, so that is good.

    Hi Ladies

This is my first post here. I'm sure I'm probably the "Gramma". I had bilateral in 1997, can you beieve it !! I was fortunate........no chemo, no radiation. I did not have reconstruction at the time, I couldn't handle it........all I wanted was the cancer gone, and the world to leave me alone.......huh, fat chance............!!  Amazingly three years later I met the most wonderful man and married.  He says he likes my flat chest because he can get closer to my heart.  truly is amazing, we have been soooooooooooo happy, he saved my life.  :)   We have 8 grandchildren between us and have a ball spoiling them all.

So you ask, what's this got to do with this forum?  Well, in two weeks I will be 60 and I've decided to give myself a new set of "Girls" for my birthday.  I have no idea why now, but that's the perogative of a woman, right?

I have not even talked to the PS yet. In fact, I'm not even sure where to turn for a good PS.

I live in rural N.H.   Is there anyone from New England here, recommandations?

I have learned a lot from your site already but still have many questions.  Do you think it is even possible to have reconstruction after all this time?  scar tissue and all............

what type of reconstruction do you think is best for an old girl, I want to have the perkiest girls in the nrsing home.  haha

Thanks for all your input, it is most helpful, I'll stay tuned.

Sheila---YES I am definitely getting excited!!! Only 5 days, 10 hrs, 43 min, 33 sec till my surgery, but who's counting??? hehehe   I can't wait!  Woo Hoo!!  Good luck on your new fipples. Shaving??  Had to do that with my hysto. Hated that growing back in stage.

Rooster--- I resemble that remark!!  Lots of grandmas here, so you'll fit right in!  And yes, its possible to do reconstruction at your advanced age.  EGADS, Rooster.  You're just a couple years older than me, and I don't feel so old!  Did you know that if you don't pass by the mirror too often, you forget how old you are???  Or maybe that's just my senility settling in?!?

Anyways, my best friend is currently having reconstruction done and she's 64. You're NEVER too old to feel GOOD about yourself. You deserve to feel BEAUTIFUL. So GO for it, I say!!!

Just read through the different reconstruction threads and see which type appeals to you the most. It may take you a month to get an appt to see a plastic surgeon (PS) so, you may want to start looking.  I chose the implants because I wanted the least amount of recovery time.  There are as many different viewpoints on what size to choose as there are women on this site--we're all unique and what is great for some is too big or too small for others. Just trust what's in your heart and you won't go wrong.

    Best of luck, Rooster

Rooster - Good luck with your PS search.  I hope you find one that really listens to you. Remember you can always get a second opinion if you don't like what the first one tells you.  My first PS appointment did not go very well at all so I went to another PS and it was like night and day!!

Yvonne - Your posts just crack me up.  I loved the line about Laura stepping on the stool to see the light!!  Wink  My BM was due to fibrocystic breasts and not cancer.  Is your cousin having lots of pain?  The pain and the constant mammograms and ultrasounds are what made me decide to just get rid of the girls.  When I went back to see my regular doctor for my exchange surgery pre-op physical, she said she couldn't believe the mastectomy operative report that the PS had sent her.  He said it was hard to find much normal tissue to cut, I was pretty much filled with cysts.  Some were even leaking.  Didn't know that was even possible, so I think I made the right decision.  At least I hope I did.  I'll tell you in a couple weeks after my exchange!!

Mark me as a member of the Towering Ta Ta's!  Can anyone top 5' 9 1/2"?

    Take care everyone!

Rooster - Welcome. And best wishes for your upcoming reconstruction. I think you will be pleased in the long run, though it does take a while from start to finish. I live in upstate NY but not NH, so I can't help you w the PS search. I'd say start asking around and you will find that a name or two keeps coming up.

Yvonne and Jax - What gives? Why in the world are you two struggling w/ non healing for so long? Do the doctors have any idea? Hugs to you both. I will be sending healing vibes out through cyber space to the both of you.

Deborah - Haven't heard from you in a while. Is all okay? How is your sister doing?

Ladies - I am considering taking our surgery list back to April and forward, what do you think? Would that be okay w/ everyone. That way I can add our friends in waiting (like Rooster :))

    Take care. - Jean

I'd like to be added to the list.  I had tissue expanders inserted on January 19, 2009 and after a long, long healing process, go my first fill of 100 cc's on March 17th.  Got the second fill of 50 cc's on March 31st and yesterday got another 50 cc's.  My PS says I should be ready for exchange around June or July.

So far, I have had no pain with the fills, haven't even had to take a tylenol.  Is this normal?  Will it start to hurt more the more it is filled?

I was a healthy D cup prior to my bilat mastectomy and believe that's where I want to go again (need something to balance out  my seemly ever-expanding hips).  I am trying to lose the chemo weight before the exchange so that I can determine whether I really want to go that big.  I don't want to lug around more than I feel comfortable with.  Has anyone else gone smaller than prior to mast?  Were you happy with your choice?

Hey, I'll join the Towering Ta Ta's -- I'm 5'10" and my name is also Sue!  I remember when I first started researching causes of breast cancer after my diagnosis, and "being tall" was considered to be a risk.  When I kept reading, it said anyone over the height of 5'4" is considered "tall" and I laughed out loud ... give me a break!!  (apparently it had something to do with the surge of hormones during the growth period when we became tall in our youth)  Not sure I believe that to be a risk at all, given how many Tiny Ta Tas are on here too!!  Off for my 4th fill tomorrow - I'm at 450 and should reach 500 tomorrow.  I've had lots of pain and discomfort with mine, and I am dreading the next few days -- the first 3 after my fills are always the worse.   I am jealous of you, Kay, for not having any discomfort!  Be grateful!!  I wasa  D cup as well prior to my BLM, and I am going towards a full C after my exchange (likely early July).  When I gain weight, it always goes to my boobs, thighs and butt ... and I'd gained 10 pounds over the last year  -  thus the D size.  I'm looking forward to being a nice C again (and now I have to work on those thighs!).  sue

    Welcome Rooster,

I truly related to your post.  I had left mastectomy in May 07 and tried to convince myself that I was fine with it.  Finally decided to have reconstruction (implant) and lift to health side.  I planned it out so that I would be done before my 60th birthday, which is in July.  I had tissue expander placed in Nov and exchange surgery (silicone implant) with the lift to healthy side in March.  I am 3 weeks post opt and like what I see.  It truly does make a difference in how you carry and see yourself.

I donated all the "post reconstruction" bras and breast forms already.  I had so much!  I can only say that I was never tryly comfortable because I had to try something new all the time.  I am glad that your new hubby loves you flat, he will go crazy with the "new you"

    Good luck and welcome

Grandmom of 2 and 1 on the way!

I had my last fill yesterday.  Now I finish taxoterribles April 30 and start the process of setting up the schedule for the exchange!!!  I can't wait.  How long does one usually wait for the exchange to happen.  I am a petite girl, barely an A, so I am excited about going to a B .  I never really thought about changing, till I had to go to a plastic surgeon.  I figured, why not???  Now I can have a bit of cleavage!  I look forward to being done with this and I am going to spoil myself a bit!

sandy! good luck tomorrow! I can't wait to see your nipples!! that sounds a little pervy huh??!! LOL!! Oh! I ordered the fake ones from Amazon like Linda, just to see what they will look like and so I can show my PS where I want them blah blah, but they are out of stock, so I came home from work the other night and said to hubby "Darling, my nipples are on back order!" it sounded so funny! :)

Welcome Rooster! good luck with your recon, you will be thrilled! it is a bit of a process but its worth it! If you don't mind me asking, you had surgery, no chemo or rads, did you do tamoxifen?

Jax! I am so sorry you are still having problems......are you on any supplements? I am just wondering, as some can hinder healing and some can help......

I know what Sandy means!  Yikes.  Let me tell you....it is no picnic going AWOL from you guys for a few days!  I am fine - just was pulled away by some other committments...Whew.  It took me a good hour to read through all of the posts!!!  That was my punishment!!  You have been busy!

Jean, I was so, so sorry to hear about your infection.  Oh my gosh!  How does it look now?  I'll PM you.

Sandy and Sheila - ....it will be a Fabulous Fipples for you two!  I am praying for you!

Auriga - How did your exchange surgery go?  Please let us know!!

Rooster - Welcome!  There are so many surgical options now....for delayed reconstruction.  There are other forums which address specifically this topic.  Mona - who is on this forum - is from NH.  Perhaps she can help you with the PS info.

Tracey, so sorry about Naomi's DX.....with your support she will be just fine....tell her that there are a bunch of sisters out here to help her.......((((hugs for Naomi))))  How are you Tracey?

I am a Ta Ta tiny sister too!!!!  5' 1.5" tall......

Annie, great news that your feeling has returned....I just have certain areas that are numb and hoping that in time I will have all feeling back...

I hope everyone is loving their new soft boobs.......

I had to order those surgical quality fake nipples from Reforma - the ones Annie ordered.  I did order some others, but they are just too huge - clown size nipples.  They would fit Fiona - Shrek's wife!  Also, they were far too pale.  I think that they are for wearing under clothing - not for playing around with and taking photos - like we do here on Exchange City!
