My husband's side of the family is prematurely gray. DS is almost all gray at 57 and DD is about the same as mine at 60. DH is snow white and almost glows under fluorescent lights. Mine is about half and half with a couple of white streaks. Now I hear that young women are dyeing their hair gray.

I started going gray in my early 40s when pregnant with my youngest. The top layers are all gray but the underneath is still brown though it doesn't show through. Before chemo, I had hair like Gilda Radner - my DH used to say he could see my hair before he saw me. Since chemo, its not coarse, its softer and finer but pretty much a full head of hair. Sandy - I used to put my hair in a pony tail on top of my head and use 4 great big pink rollers to help straighten it. Don't miss those days - stopped in the late 70s

Good morning, ladies. I had a wonderful walk by the river and saw 2 Manatees, which is such a pleasure. I was not wearing a mask and neither were the Manatees. LOL. My hair has been short and gray since retirement. DH has a phone visit to get the MRI results and I have a PCP in person visit, today.

I feel perfectly safe in Florida and happy to be here. I have my vacpass and wear a mask in businesses, healthcare facilities that require it. as do most people. There are some folks, as everywhere, that wear them all the time, even when they are alone in the car and there are those that don't want to wear them anywhere. People are people, no matter what state you are in. BTW, some of us live in Florida and Texas and don't really feel like "COVIDIOTS". if it is so bad, why are people flocking to Florida and Texas?

Back to work. I will re-do one skirt of this order. I was using my standard thread color for onw skirt, with the idea of decorative topstitching. Had a lot of trouble though. I will tear it apart and make another new waistband and same-color thread. Ugh! Right now my learning curve is steep. Will be happy when I quit making these mistakes and start working fast enough to make it worth my time.

Any, had an audiology appointment and discussed the fact that it has been two years since a 'gram, so asked my PCP for a referral. Audi did adjust my HA's so that I could get max hearing out of results of last 'gram. Including a more accessible switch for turning them up and down. Had my last appointment with my counselor. It is all about time to move. Don't know when, but it is going to happen.

Thinking like a winner means not always having to defeat someone else. It means being able to grow from a situation in which you fail to reach your goal. It involves not demanding perfection from yourself in every single thing you do, but, instead, thinking of yourself as perfect and thus capable of growing. It means reminding yourself that perfection doesn't mean staying the same; it means being able to allow yourself to grow. Thinking as a winner means not coming down on yourself; it means refusing to allow self-repudiating thoughts into your head. It involves pushing out the inclination to evaluate yourself in comparison with others, and giving yourself permission to be the unique person you are. -Wayne Dyer

Keywest, I love the short hair you have in your avatar. I know though that you have to be comfy with whatever you choose. I still haven't decided what I'm going to do about mine. I'm not in a super hurry.

As to masks -- so far the restaurants we have gone to ( Culver's and Chinese/Mexican ) have been able to keep seating at a distance. The wait staff wear masks although I admit the first couple of times it was a bit nerve-wracking. It has helped me feel a mite more comfortable but I am really OKAY with anywhere I go requiring masks. I still keep disposable masks ( as well as washable ones of cloth ) in my glove compartment and an extra in my purse. Then again, we are so small here and have not had any huge outbreak anywhere but one residential facility. All the 'outbreaks' were handled by the local County Health Dept. who made sure that quarantines were followed to the letter. All through this last yr. though people in many places seemed un-concerned about having masks on. I got the impression/just a gut feeling, that their idea was -- you wear the mask so I don't have too. I found it really irritating because it failed to take into account that there could still ( were they actually carriers ) be accidental transmissions some way.

I realize back then people were not sure if it was only transmission thru the air or if touched articles ( groceries, or Walmart type aisles ) could maintain 'germs' for a certain amt. of time -- so it was a time that nothing much felt safe. Still, I never relied on anyone shopping for me. I just guess I'm way too fussy. I think most places will not let up too much until at least 70 % or so of the population is vaccinated with at least the first shot. I hope that doesn't take much longer but no matter what -- if a business requires a mask I will wear it. I'm not into flaunting regulations too much.

We are awaiting possible storms today but sounds like they will come late if they do. There is sun right now. Sigh !! With both of us mostly totally retired ( I keep up a bit of work ) I don't worry too much about storms, but now daughter lives with us and she has to drive to a town close to us ( about 20 miles to the South of us ) and so I worry -- even if it is just raining. She has learned to use the old highway ( I do too ) because our interstate is a huge truck route and smaller cars usually get swamped by the big trucks passing them. My SUV is better but it still happens so I just quit using the interstate. Start 5 to 10 mins. earlier and I have more scenery to boot.

Hope you all have a good day.

Yesterday was a scorcher and high winds and thunderstorms were predicted for late afternoon to early evening. Both turned out to be relatively mild events but we have not had rain since 5/9 so it was welcome. I spent yesterday potting plants my DD and DSIl had gotten for me and purchased more at the local Giant. They sell hanging baskets that I breakdown and repot. So the patio was half done and went back today for some more plants and had the same checker who recognized me. Guess they don't get plant sales that large normally and I was able to get some New Guinea impatiens for a very reasonable clearance price. Each pot had 2 plants so I was able to put them in patio planters with other plants (same thing at a nursery is ~$30). I finished the patio today, have a few plants leftover but I am sure I will find another pot or two to fill. Today has been less humid but still warm. I even got some weeding done.

Yesterday the smallest baby somehow managed to get out of the bowl and the parents were frantically trying to get it back in the bowl. I watched and decided I would have to intervene because they did not know what to do. So I gently picked it up and returned it to the bowl. Mom inspected it, fed it and hunkered down again so I breathed a sigh of relief that they would not abandon it. All seems well today but I still cannot get a good shot with a camera. I'll keep trying though because they are growing so fast.

I'm so frustrated tonight. The Salvation Army went to Dad's apartment in Burnsville today to pick up his remaining furniture items, all of which had been OK'd for pickup by the man I talked to when I set up the appointment. We're not there of course, I'm back home in Fargo and Dad's in his new apartment. The manager of the building sent me an email tonight that they didn't take about 10 items, including 2 recliners, a corner desk, a ladder, 2 bar stools, a standing scale, a TV stand and a couple other things. I'll call them tomorrow, but expect I'll end up paying about $400 to have 1-800-Got-Junk to come get the rest.

    Puffin, that is frustrating.

Key west, can' t help but think there are income issues involved in that dental visit.

Re hair. I too am part of the baby fine club. Still mostly brown which is a familial trait. Interestingly enough, my hair had been consistently just below my ears for 20 years without trimming before starting tamoxifen. Now it is 6 to 8 inches longer but thinner on top, go figure. Tamoxifen has not been kind to my eyebrows and eyelashes or to most of my body hair.

Letrozole has not been kind to my hair either, though I notice that after my Drybar blowout and Liquid Glass sealer/protectant, there are no loose hairs in my brush or comb the way there were when it was frizzy. Hmm...think I may make Drybar a go-to every now & then. Not cheap, but an affordable occasional indulgence, cheaper than the cut & color from my salon stylist, and also open on Sundays. (Drybar does only styling--either dry on clean hair or wash & blowout. No cuts or chemical services ar all). Gonna wash my hair in the morning (been using a shower cap since Sunday) and see how closely I can replicate the professional results--now that I have a concentrator nozzle for my dryer and mirror tiles on the wall opposite the medicine-cabinet mirror. The things I do lack, however, are dexterity & patience. Not going out in the raw cold wind & rain (we're at the low end of Chicago's annual May weather seesaw) so if I do it right it might last nearly as long as the professional one has.

Dunno if I mentioned it earlier, but we went to a ball game a couple of weekends ago--the White Sox had a special section reserved for the fully-vaccinated (they checked our cards), at a reduced ticket price. It was a joy being able to watch the game, eat & drink without a mask (though we had to wear it when away from our seats). Didn't hurt, either, that the Sox won at the last possible moment. What a treat to go to the restroom and be able to wash my hands (with soap & hot water!) for 20 seconds without a matron nagging us to stop dawdling at the sinks! (Not a treat getting out of the parking lot and crawling through traffic to the expressway, however).

I think the reason so many people gravitate to TX & FL is for both the weather and--for a certain type of individual--"freedom" from rules that other states still have, even rules that make eminent sense. I've noticed at supermarkets now that we're supposed to wipe down our shopping carts ourselves, but that the one-way aisles have been reinstated. (Follows the science that "fomite transmission"--on surfaces--is no longer a "thing," but that airborne transmission definitely is). And I've yet to see a store or restaurant around here that doesn't require mask-wearing for entry (even if their corporate parents say it's optional). What I don't get is why anyone would wear a mask while driving alone in their own car--maybe they have a bunch of errands to run and it's easier to just leave it on? Anyway, I feel quite secure dining indoors here in Chicago now that I'm fully-vaccinated, the staff all wear masks (most of them are vaccinated, too--at least at the eateries I frequent) and everyone masks up whenever interacting with servers or getting up from their table.

And, of course, masks are still required at hair & nail salons. (My nail salon is now selling handmade ones).

    Hi ChiSandy

I notice some people around town driving cars alone and wearing masks. Maybe they are using a rental car or dropping off friends places and want to be extra careful. can’t imagine anyone enjoying wearing a mask. I took my car in for service this week and when I picked it up I wore a mask driving home until I could open all the windows since the mechanics were inside my car working. No way to know if they were vaccinated or not.

DH got the results from the MRI. He has a benign tumor, but will need to be monitored. The neurologist has referred him to a neurosurgeon and prescribed some additional medications.

We arrived at our summer home in northern MN on Wed. about noon. The past two days have been devoted to moving things in from the cargo trailer and truck. I went to Walmart's yesterday and bought basic groceries for stocking the refrigerator and pantry.

It has been cold with frost the past two nights. I'm wearing jeans and sweatshirt. Today I will go to the nearby golf course to pay for membership and then to town to the Anytime Fitness gym to pay for a summer membership.

It takes me a while to change locations mentally. I'm not "here" yet.

Petite, thank goodness the tumor is benign.

Welcome to the new ladies. Petite & ...(I need to take notes!) glad the husbands are doing better. Petite - just read benign tumor, thankful they found the reason for the headaches and hopeful a plan to take care of it. HUGS

I've got fine hair. Way back 40 years ago, getting perms, I was told I had fine hair but a lot of it. I think it took the stylist much longer than she thought to get it all rolled up. I lose a lot of hair and always have, and it would be full white if I let it go. But I've said I'll fight to the bitter end to stop that from happening! I'm 80% Irish, pale skin, freckles, where my "tan" looks like other folks normal skin color. I think I'd look washed out if I let it go. I'll be 62 at the end of June, so maybe in another 10 years I'll throw in the towel.

Southwest Florida is where the 2nd home is. I go because it's much warmer there than upstate NY in the winter, and it never snows. We arrived mid April and all the restaurants we saw were full on no masks. Some owners made their employees wear masks, others bragged on the nightly news that they didn't get the vaccine and they wouldn't make their employees either. I wouldn't spend my money at such a place, you can't fix stupid, I certainly wasn't going to reward it.

NY is now part of the CDC no mask necessary. I ran around yesterday getting plants, doctors (breast surgeon check, all good, see me in a year) and a few stores. The only place I could go in w/o a mask was the garden center, it's fenced but outdoors. Stores had signs on the doors requesting you to please wear the mask. People in their cars wearing masks, only reason I can think of is they are just so used to it they forgot to take it off. I know in FL I've walked to my car, gotten into it and realized I still had it on.

I've gotten 10 pots planted with annuals, 2 large pots got perennials. The screen house still needs to be put up and the pool isn't open yet either. We had thought between now and Monday we'd get to it. But weather has another idea. Today's high is 55 and rain; Saturday 52 maybe rain; Sunday 57 rain; Monday so far says 70. From 85 two days ago, to: will we have to put the heat on? Our Memorial weekend is a washout.

I'm heading to the cemeteries to make sure my dad and all the uncles have flags on their graves. Hoping your Memorial weekend isn't a wash out.

PS - 16 full days of school left! WOO HOO!!

Big storms yesterday late afternoon. Thankfully daughter had gone to work before they came. By early evening it was down to a drizzle but we had as much as 2 ins. of rain during the hard part of the storm. Today there could be a spot rain, but mainly just a gray day in store and much cooler. In the mid 60's all day. It will be that tomorrow as well so maybe I will work on my car a little. I have that new ( very easy application ) cleaner/polish to apply.

Petite, how great to hear you finally have some answers. Also wonderful to find out it is a BENIGN tumor. Hopefully you will now be able to address the problem better for eliminating the severe headache pain. Hope all goes smoothly now.

Carole it is good to hear you are in MN now safe and sound. What a surprise that you are having 'frost' at night. No wonder you don't feel 'there' yet. I think I relate a little. It is difficult sometimes with age to give up our rut and get into the next one -- as desirable as it may be. I know you enjoy the peace and relative quiet and almost all the time, good weather to be found there. Hoping thee transition settles in soon.

Not a lot planned for today. Just my little job mainly and more work here. Yesterday was busy. I worked and then came home and worked here with odd items but necessary as no one likes to feed themselves here. It is always nicer if you have a cook who will get something going for you. I also cleaned the screen room good although it was rather warm work. Then finished up daughter's bed ( she had to go to work with her sheets still washing ) and some cleaning in her room she had not gotten too.

Petite, good news for benign! Hope the new meds help with his headaches.

Carol, happy to learn of safe arrival and settling in.

Re reasons for moving to Texas, it is not for the weather. Southern part has high humidity and high temperatures as well as hurricanes; northern part has lots of wind and winter storms. We moved to be closer to grandchildren. Ironically, two of them are graduating high school tonight and we are not able to be there. At least DS who has Stage 4 cancer will be able to see them graduate. Hoping he will be around to see his oldest graduate college next year.

I'm one of those people driving alone with a mask. My homemade ones are pretty comfortable and I just forget to take them off.

Cindy, I worked with a woman with your coloring. She showed me her Costco photo which was taken with a white background. All it showed was eyes, nose, lips. Her white hair didn't show at all against the background. It was hilarious. They've switched to blue now.

My future daughter-in law is a lifelong Texan--she's from Katy and wears a little silver pendant in the shape of Texas.

Petite, great news re DH's tumor being benign.

    Beav, prayers for your DS.

Lousy weather here--low 40s (yes, even North Pole, AK is warmer than Chicago today), rainy, windy--so windy it blew half an oak tree on to the northbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive this afternoon, totalling two cars and sending one guy to the hospital. Bob is out SW tonight because the "check engine" light came on his dashboard and he won't know till tomorrow--when the dealership can inspect it--whether it's safe for him to drive home. So he's staying at the hotel near the hospital, where tomorrow he'll read echoes before heading to the dealership to find out. (No rentals available--holiday weekend, most agencies sold off their fleets during the pandemic). If it's safe, he'll drive home. If they can fix it while he waits, he'll come home after. But if it requires more than an instant repair, I'll have to head down there to get him--and then take him back once the car is ready (probably Tuesday).

Looks like a pretty day. Sunny and the temperature in the low 50's when we got up. No plans except to take a walk for exercise.

We had a successful opening day at the farmers market yesterday. More compliments than sales but enough buyers to make the effort of setting up our booth worthwhile. Most of our buyers are summer people. One buyer was from CA. Two buyers mentioned that their purchases were for wedding presents.

Though I might travel afar, I will meet only what I carry with me, for every man and woman is a mirror. We see only ourselves reflected in those around us. Pretty today with sun and temps. that will get to 72 or so. I can live with that. Still intend to work on my car and few other projects for the day. Dh wants to go look at some recliners on sale ( Memorial Day ) at our Big Lots store. I will go along and see if the new Burks is open although I thin it has been for a while. Just don't know the Sunday hrs.

Farmer's Markets are great and glad to hear of your success there Carole. Those people ( ones who purchased wedding gifts ) almost sounded like they were aware you might be there, but just as likely spur of the moment seeing something a little more unusual and rather distinctive as a wedding gift. Those are great people who unlike myself have gotten past a set of towels or glasses. Sigh !!! Well, my only small claim to anything different is that my mom -- not having paper at the time wrapped a gift for me in a dishtowel she knew I would love. It started a new thing with us -- giving a second gift of a cloth wrapping. So, you might get a shirt, great scarf, set of sheets -- who knew what sort of cloth to comprise an extra gift. It was always a little fun. I've continued what started out as a desperate measure.

Nothing much planned for the upcoming week. The weather sounds like some could be un-pleasant which for me means possible gray for cloudy or wet days. Hoping some of it will be wrong. We got one rainstorm ( not the wind my daughter got where she works 20 miles from here, to the South ) but not the second one. Neither did she though so all was well, if a bit grayer that we like.

Hoping you all have a really good Sunday.

Rainy day today - went to Costco this morning and been puttering in the house the rest of the day - dusted the living/dining room - not such a big room or so much furniture but way too many things to dust - pottery that DD#2 and I made over the years, bone china tea cups that were my later mother's. family photos - then stopped to look at snapfish albums I made - haven't made any in several years but the ones sitting out on the coffee table are 2009 - 2013 or 2014. Looking at photos of my late parents with my children when they were young - they were younger than I am now - and a very special photo of my late grandmother and DD#1, DH with his late mother, my late FIL and then school photos from the kids - of the 2 big kids they are from early 2000s. Many memories.

Evening news is coming on so going to go watch it.

Beaverntx - prayers for your son.

Wren44 - that photo would be me too!

We went to a gathering for Memorial day. Cold & rainy, high I think was 48, but pool & hot tub open. The kids ran from pool to hot tub multiple times, for about 40 minutes. Adults supervised but none got in. Today it's cloudy, 55 with expected rain. I

Tomorrow I have a chiropractor muscle therapist appointment at 11, then at 1 I see my GYN for my yearly pap. I will be covered in coconut oil from the deep tissue massage when I get to GYN. Vitals will be clean, LOL, so I'm just going to roll with it. The two offices are in other areas, no where close to my home.

No pool opening planned for today. Watching my soap opera, then finish up a project in the garage, left overs from the party for dinner. Enjoy your memorial day!
