Illinois, What I was trying to say, if a partner comes along and judges the book by the cover, you don't want them anyway. No beauty queen here and never was, just little ol' me. LOL

Petite: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so whatever your spouse sees is his perception of you and very flattering. My DH tells me I am beautiful but by public standards, I would never make the cut. That he thinks so is enough.

Mary: So glad to see how your self-advocacy was a payoff. After a root canal I kept calling the dentist about how the pain med was not working and never got a response until I called his service at 5 AM. Was told he was sleeping and not available so I told the operator I had not had any sleep for the past 4 nights and if I had to be up he needed to be as well. Got a call after 9 AM that he finally heard me and changed the pain med to something that did work. Sometimes you just have to be assertive to be heard especially when being nice did not.

The sun is out today and we are to hit the 50's after several bitter cold days. I am making headway in the basement reassembly so I will keep pushing myself to see progress. Have a nice day.

Betrayal, pretty much as I see things. The men who love you quit looking on the outside long ago to fall in love with what they found on the inside. Beauty really is only skin deep and in the eye of the beholder. I recall a limerick. I don't remember it all but the keys words were -- my face, I don't mind it, because I'm behind it. It's the folks out in front that I jar.

Illimois lady - Love your limerick, it's how I feel sometimes but not always!

Petite, Betrayal, Taco, et al - I had promised to post an update to my follow-up appointment which was on Monday. I arrived with my friend in a a slightly anxious state. It turned out that all it was was a wound check. The nurse removed the bandage and pronounced my healing to be going well. So I am STILL WAITING, until the next appointment next Monday with the BS himself.

I have been meditating daily, and riding my recumbent bike for half an hour most days; I hope these things (and my therapist) are helping to keep me a little calmer & cooler than I have been. After all, the lumpectomy is The Past and I won't know what's in The Future until I have passed a few days of The Present. Mindfulness is a good thing.

Good for you, Mary! My FIL once called the Pres. of GM at home before he left the lemon blocking the entrance to the dealership.

Vandercat - waiting for a diagnosis and treatment plan is the hardest. Hang in there. It's already almost Thursday - maybe where you are it already is.

Beautiful right now in Phoenix. Perfect days for golfing. Finally our Covid rate is going down.

I think I've found enough money for the Foodbank to buy a refrigerated truck - that's a "reefer" to those in the know. Now all we have to do is find one. Have a nationwide search going but they are in VERY short supply and at least twice more expensive than we expected.

One does not need to fast for days and meditate for hours at a time to experience the sense of sublime mystery which constantly envelops us. All one need do is to notice intelligently, if even for a brief moment, a blossoming tree, a forest flooded with autumn colors, an infant smiling.

Oh do I have hope. The sun is shining, and we are due to have temps. 50 degrees or quite near. If that sun hangs around it will do a number on the leftover snow which is all but hugging the ground now. Started out to be 7 to 9 inches with drifts. Driving home from Cardio visit yesterday I really saw such improvement. It may rain today or more likely tomorrow -- and although it will help to remove whatever snow is left it is likely to make it cooler as well. Hoping that doesn't mean more snow.

Cardiologist seemed happy overall. He did prescribe Eliquis to avoid stroke should I go into A-Fib. So far, so good on that. The Surgeon who did my replacement surgery said that it was not un-common to have A-Fib right after replacement making it sound sort of par for the course in many cases. Body needed to adjust to actually having a valve that now works perfectly more or less. I don't recall if I said here (likely did) that not only was my valve not opening properly it wouldn't close properly either. That is what made having the operation as soon as possible the thing to do. At that, I had the issues about a month or a bit more before all was arranged. I agreed with the Dr. that it was likely the better course of action to take a daily dose of something to ward off possible stroke just in case then not. One way or the other I take some sort of pill. In this case trading the Eliquis for the aspirin I'm taking right now -- so I wouldn't be taking anything extra -- just doing a trade.

I hope you all have a really good day

Vandercat - I’m in the Albany area when I’m in NY, we winter in Fort Myers (when it’s not covid or a medical keeping us in NY). My divot is at 12 o’clock too. The scar from the nodes is more problematic than the breast. I have certain shirts that hit my underarm scar just right, to cause pain.

Mary - sometimes you’ve got to speak up or be ignored. I’m glad he got back to you with a solution.

Petite- my partner of over 26 years will tell me how beautiful I am. I tell him he needs his eyes checked and some new glasses. We are our own worst critics.

It’s six months after my hamstring surgery and today I can ride my bike. I hope I can sit on the seat without pain or discomfort. I know it will be a slow loop, but I’ll build up to full speed multiple loops over time. I’m still hitting the little community gym - recumbent bike, leg presses, leg lifts and I’ve started using weights for curls, presses, and rows. Looking to get rid of my “bat wings” again. For my leg lifts and presses I increase the weight weekly. This machine has just numbers, so I’m not real sure of the weight! I’ll have to take a picture of it and google how much is each number.

Hope you all have a great day

Good morning, ladies. I went out junking and had a pleasant trip, but no great treasures. LOL While out and about, I met a pleasant lady who survived lung cancer for over a year and it has returned to her scar tissue. She will be starting treatment this week. We talked about our doctors and treatments. She goes to the same cancer center as I do and is my age. We shook hands and wished each other luck. She stays in my mind and I will pray for her.

We're in for a lovely day. Jackie, you would be in heaven. Sunshine and 70 degrees. DH just left heading for the golf course. My Tuesday/Friday group is playing but I opted out, having played 9 holes on Tuesday and 18 holes on Wednesday in the Pals tournament. My golf was wretched and I was reminded of why I choose not to play "events" where I have to speak my score on each hole. I'm not sure why I'm golfing so poorly since I'm fairly fit for my age, almost 79. I'm tempted to think the problem is mental.

At any rate I plan to go to my 11:30 exercise class at the gym. My younger sister, Michelle, has started coming to the M,W,F classes and she plans to be there today. It's nice to see her. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, when not obligated elsewhere, I attend chair yoga class as I did yesterday. I went early to do cardio on the treadmill prior to the class. For many years I walked a fast 3 miles for cardio and had a little home gym with weights, all to avoid going to a gym. But now I 've changed and prefer the gym, which is no more than 10 to 15 minutes from home and not a route too busy with traffic.

In no time it will be spring and I will be doing yard duty.

    Happy Friday!

No doubt we would all agree with the sentiment: "There's more to life than things." Yet much of our lives seem to be spent in the acquisition, maintenance, and disposal of material goods. Certainly we cannot enjoy the basics of food, shelter, and clothing without a concern for things. The truly important things of life, however, are those which cannot be encountered by the physical senses, purchased with money, or placed on a shelf. When we take a look at what we value most in life, we generally find family, friends, health, peace, contentment, laughter, helping others, and communion with God foremost on our list of priorities.

Oops, today -- likely no sun and possible even some rain. If it rains long enough at the good temps it is right now it will help to dissipate more of the left-over snow that is so flat to the ground. I didn't see any indication of more snow, so I guess all I'll have to think about is places not dried up -- like our driveway that may be a bit slippery yet.

This morning I was up early again to try and make it to the hospital to get my special urine test for my Urologist. Hope this is not TMI but at my age sometimes I need to have an early BM and afterwards will lose the second urine specimen which is what this special test requires. Finally today so, I hurried to get dressed and up to the hospital. The previous two days were a wash-out.

Sure would like to see 70 degrees here. We have had it before in February -- usually towards the end of the month, but last few yrs. we seemed as likely to get a late snow. I do hope that does not happen. I've had enough snow for this yr. thanks.

Nothing much to do today but a couple of bills that just came. Otherwise, maybe some laundry. Just another normal day and I'm just fine with those.

I hope you all have a good day and stay well.

My laptop tells me it's 50 degrees outside and my eyes tell me the sun is shining. I have no plans to go anywhere today and there are lots of things on the list of Do If You Get Around To It. Tonight we're going out to dinner at a nice Italian restaurant. There we will meet with another couple. We'll call it our Valentine's dinner.

    Wishing everyone a good Saturday.

You are in charge of your feelings, beliefs, and actions. And you teach others how to behave toward you. While you cannot change other people, you can influence them through your own behaviors and actions. By being a living role model of what you want to receive from others, you create more of what you want in your life.

Ah, what a morning. Snow flurries slowly falling. At least I love to watch it. I don't think no matter how long they fall it will amount to much. Still, until this a.m. it didn't seem to show up in the forecast. Oh well -- keeps life from being boring. It is definitely fun to watch falling through the tree trunks (un-dressed here in our woods) and as well the evergreen bushes right outside the window where I'm stilling.

Nothing special planned today. I was lazy yesterday. I have turned up some new HGTV programs which have to do with the re-habbing of properties they're famous for. Use to be just the two guys, who are twins -- Drew and Johnathan Scott and has evolved into several couples with many different themes for the programs. The one we found yesterday was a group of couples that flip houses and they do so with auctioned properties. So, it would show them actually bidding -- then the one who wins would be checked on thru the process of their repairing-rehabbing and then they all get together at the end at a favorite bar to celebrate how it came out for the person who won the property that time. Well, it is nice to see some of these programs made different. While at first, they were pretty exciting, I do find now that you know pretty much what they are going to do with a property. The kitchens and baths are pretty much all the same -- so it is up to who is willing to take a chance and go all out as well as the staging that is done to sell a property.

Seems the snow flurries just stopped. That was predicted. Probably for the best. I really am done with winter and despite it sounding like we might have a cold week it seems to be changed now to a few warmer days. Spring is not here yet, but it is close enough to get me a bit excited. I'm yearning for it. Not so much the heat and humidity which will come much later, but that great period where it is just warm enough to keep your doors and windows open most of the day and to take your coffee out on the deck in the morning to enjoy. Hurry Spring.

Sun is out for the second time this morning. Hope it will stay, but not sure. Had snow flurries all day yesterday so no sun at all then. At least the flurries didn't stick. The good thing is we have only blotches here and there of left-over snow. Most in in partly shaded areas. We will have some better temps this week, but can't be sure about precipitation.

Nothing special planned today. Sunday -- a good day to rest. Never mind I did a lot of it yesterday too.

Hope you all have a good day.

The snow has made its way eastward and we are getting lots of light looking flakes now. The red fox came to the birdfeeder but there was nothing for him to catch but what a beauty when contrasted against the snow. His tail is really bushy and a mix of black, cream and red. The flakes keep changing shape and size which has been amazing to watch as we progress over the morning. It is gray and overcast so not an inviting day. It is the snow which makes it appear brighter than it really is. Temp hovering at 37.

My clingy cat Leo has been moreso the last couple of days and last night he was sleeping on my chest and when I awke this AM he was on the pillow above my head. Right now he is hanging out in the eatin area bay window watching me type. Taking the day off from working in the basement since we were able to accomplish a lot this week. My DD and DSIL have organized a Super Bowl Sunday party for us with wings, cheesy potatoes from Mission BBQ and I will make some green beans. Hope everyone has a nice Sunday and that the team of their choice wins the Super Bowl.

Sandy, I’m commenting here on another thread of yours about what to wear to Gordy’s NOLA wedding. I thought back to DS Tony’s 2008 wedding at the Fairmont. His very social soon to be MIL, mother of his bride, told me she bought a gorgeous black short Donna Karan dress on Oak Street and that I needed to wear short black too. So,went with my BFF, now sadly gone, to Lake Forest and bought a short black dress, though I didn’t actually think black or short was appropriate for DS’ formal wedding.Came the day, there I was, there she was in a Carolina Herrera, long cocktail bright yellow dress, me in short black. We’re actually friends now, but I’m wary of her competitive spirit.

Forgetting tonight was the Super Bowl, a few weeks ago we made reservations with friends to eat in a heated outdoor igloo at Guildhall in Glencoe. Will probably freeze, but it will be fun, the four of us sitting there, chattering. Tuesday Gil and I are going to Palm Springs for a week. Will eat in a warmer outdoors.

My son's wife had to talk her mother into not wearing black at their wedding. They compromised on navy blue. At some point in the ceremony people on the bride's side greeted each other a shook hands. On the groom's side everyone just looked confused.

Keywestfan, That was really dirty pool. Shame on her.

We did watch the game last night with some wings. I had an Ultra with the wings and some fries. I feel lazy this morning, but have much to do.

Right now it is 20 degrees F and we have a snow filled driveway and walkway. Of course, today is the day that Wayfair is to deliver 2 new office chairs and Amazon is to deliver a new table top TV stand (early delivery moved form Thursday to today). Fortunately the new TV is slated to be delivered tomorrow so hopefully the driveway will be clear of ice and snow by then. The basement is coming along nicely and biggest impediment is convincing DH to cull some of his "just in case" items. Sicked DD on him yesterday to make him address 2 large Tupperware bins that he has been avoiding for days and they were heavy enough that I could not move them. So he did address them and went from 3 bins (had another hidden in furnace room) down to 1. Progress with him is slow and not so steady as I would like. In the meantime, I organized all the DVD's by type and the CD's alphabetically and by type. So they have been put in place, labeled as to contents and we did dispose of all old VHS tapes even though we still have a functioning VCR. So things are starting to resemble normal once again and basement no longer resembles a storage locker. Have a nice day. The sun is out so that makes me happy.

We watched the super bowl at a neighbors. It was a great party with so much food! The old saying, if you left hungry it’s your own fault, comes to mind.

I’ve gotten back to riding my old lady bike. I’m slower and it’s not as comfortable, but boy it feels great to be outdoors. Amazon delivered a gel bike seat pad, and I tried that out today. It helps.

Going to be a busy week. Tomorrow is ladies lunch, chiropractor and an HOA meeting. Wednesday we’re renting a boat with another couple for a half day. And Thursday I’m driving up to Sarasota to visit with girl friends from NY. Nothing is super early so I’ll get my sleep in

My backs bothering me again and my hamstring surgical area is bad too. Pain in both areas. Hoping chiropractor can help.

Weather has been more on the cool side one day, then hot the next. Not a true Florida winter, but so much better than NY winter, I can’t complain.

Betrayal it’s nice to hear things are looking up on the home front. I hope you all had a nice Valentine’s Day
