It continues to be HOT in Colorado. High 90s all week. Had a great week-end in the mountains hiking. Weather was 15+ degrees cooler than the city.
Hope everyone is well. Have a great day.

One of the things that silently falls by the wayside when our busy lives get stretched too thin is hope. Hope is never limited to the unreal. Hope is that process within ourselves that stretches us beyond the ordinary, beyond the possible to the impossible, while at the same time rendering what seemed impossible possible. Hope feeds our soul and our being. It is that immeasurable source of power that comes from beyond ourselves and is not controlled by us. Depriving ourselves of hope confines us to a world grown void of color and surprises. We no longer see the flowers and the rainbows that are there. Hope is not expensive to have. It is very costly to be without. -Anne Wilson Schaef

Happy Tuesday. Overcast and the chance of rain. It is rain week here and off and on we will have some. The sun manages to break through now and then, but it is not lasting. Not sure of today, but I have a couple of items on my list. Tomorrow is my day to have my phone appt. with my cardiologist, Dr. Ruben. I will be glad. I'd like to talk to her about the upcoming colonoscopy and my 'incidents' of low blood pressure -- even though I feel like I did figure out it was a stomach too empty. Need to clean the inside of my car. The outside hasn't been a big problem since we have had enough rain to keep it reasonable. The door jams and back door hatch needs good cleaning along with a good sweep and washing off my floor mats. My car is staying better since the kids have their car now and mine is not running the roads all the time anymore.
Gas prices are going down here and that is a big relief as well. We will be able to use a special card for the month of Sept. which will put us at just under $3.00 a gallon -- more if the price continues to fall.

My back has been bothering me the last 2 days. I didn't get any accomplished, yesterday. Today I have a little more movement, but it is still bothersome. I drive a truck. I climb in and slide out. DH drives a Jeep Wrangler and I have to do the same with it. I am heading out to get a few errands finished. The cable person is supposed to be here this evening to replace the box. That takes care of today. I am holding off on exercise until my back returns to normal.

My orthopedist told me to call his nurse and give a report on how I am doing. Report day is Thursday. This morning I was happily composing a message that so long as I ride my bike instead of walking, and hold my leg stiff when I am walking, I am doing fine. Then I was in the garden. Did not have my poles to get about. I stepped out of the garden, leading with my right leg. Yes, my right leg with the bum knee. It slipped, and I fell. Fear of falling on the frame of the garden I think prevented me from doing that. So, anyway.
Made soup today, forgot to put dehydrated summer squash in it. So now that is plumping up.
Talked with my daughter in California yesterday. The air conditioner is not keeping up with the temp, about four degrees warmer in the house than it is set at. She is exhausted and stressed out at being on call when she is not working. Her BF doesn't like it either. She is concerned about her Xanax consumption and is going to get her doctor to write a note for no more on call without sufficient personal time. I am sure the weather doesn't help. No fires in the area this year. Probably because all the most fire-prone areas have already been burned.

We had rain over night and then it turned into a nice sunny, humid day. I had a dentist appointment late morning. It was my first time at this dentist, although they made my retainer. Took panoramic and regular X-rays. Teeth are good.
Sorry you’re having back issue petite. Sorry to hear you fell Mary. Hope everyone feels better.
Enjoy your day.

Petite - hope your back feels better
Mary - sorry to hear that you fell. hope you are okay.
Illinoislady - remind me when your colonoscopy is. Mine is on the 19th!!
Record high today 99F. My school district is either closing or early dismissal 20 schools W,TH, due to the high heat. High 90s till Friday. Cooler weather on Saturday, then heating up again next week.
Saw the endocrinologist today due to hyperparathyroid. She doesn't agree with my medical oncologist about only 3 years on Prolia (which I finished in April). She wants me on it for life!! She has ordered 24 hour urine which I will do Sunday as I can't do it on a work day. As long as those numbers are good, she doesn't think anything else at this time. She doesn't think Rx will work and only other option is surgery which thankfully she doesn't recommend. The office is on the other side of town from me, so DH participated by phone. She is going to see if PCP can order the Prolia and give it to me to save me going out to her twice a year. I'm going to message her through patient portal to see if that doesn't work, if she can contact my medical oncologist and share her thoughts and maybe I can continue to get it with him. My next appointment with medical oncologist is in October. Didn't know if I should laugh or cry when she commented that I have so much going on with me!!! So many things that I'm being followed for can cause high blood calcium and bone loss.
Sweet dreams and have a good Wednesday

petite- hoping your back feels better. Mary, you didn’t mention if you injured yourself. Hoping you had a soft landing in the garden.
I looked at appliances in 3 local small businesses yesterday. Today I was heading out to the 4th place for prices when I saw something at the end of my driveway. I drove by and thought it was a skunk. A neighbor was coming out of his house to get his waste bins from the curb so I rolled down my window to ask him what it was. He took a look, it was a cat. The two of us bagged it up and got it into the dumpster at the firehouse. But that totally ended my day. I ended up just so disgusted that someone could do that and keep going. Granted it was pouring most of the morning, but still. We posted on Ring and Nextdoor app about the demise of a cat. I thought it’s better to know than to not know - if you’re the owner.
We cleaned out more from the front bedroom. I’ve got sports cards on a large metal shelving unit, full. Covered in thick dirty gray dust. I’m hoping a sports card store will throw me some money and take them all. I’m calling tomorrow. Such a mess up there. We don’t really use the room and not being here 6 months a year doesn’t help in the scheme of CLEAN.
Hoping all your days were better than mine.

My back is still bothering me, but I have a little more movement. The warm shower feels good on my aching back. I have to do some shopping today. My phone indicates rain late afternoon, so I need to shop before the rain comes.

Yes, my knee is bothering me more than usual.
Cran-fest is coming up. Parish women are serving a breakfast for $$$. I pledged to donate three jugs of cranberry juice but I think I will give six, since I cannot donate labor. Book club is this afternoon.
Tippy is doing a great job walking along with my trike. Even when he is on the retractable leash.

A rainy day. Flood warnings in the area and we heard that some of the paths around the lake were flooded. We’re higher up and our sump pump is working.
I’m going to a support group that offer through the local cancer resource center. Thought I’d check it out.
Going to declutter one of the closets today. Something to do on a rainy day. Hope everyone has a pain free day.

Infinite riches are all around you if you will open your mental eyes and behold the treasure house of infinity within you. There is a gold mine within you from which you can extract everything you need to live life gloriously, joyously, and abundantly. -Joseph Murphy

Cindy, how fantastic that you cared to announce the passing of the cat. You are sooooo right -- it is hard to NOT know for sure. You are an angel.
I think the weather has not been too kind to those with aches and pains -- sure seems to give extra ( un-wanted ) feeling to situations. I hope the crazy weather will settle down for a while, but with global warming -- round and round it goes.
Catch up things to do today. Sometimes I'm lazy and sometimes the best laid plans get overtaken. Always seems like a good reason. Yesterday we were out looking for a replacement lamp for one of ours that was broken. Dh insisted that we had to have two matching lamps so we hit a few stores. He realized what I told him ( lighting has gotten pretty pricey ) and will repair the lamp, get new lampshades and harps and all should be fine. But, that means I do have to knuckle down today and get some progress going.
Hope you all have a really nice day. How's your weater in MN, Carole?

Congratulation to you and the parents. I'm sure you want to meet her asap.

Ah -- big congradulations in order for everyone. Welcome Piper. So glad you are there now.

Congratulations Cardplayer!
We emptied more of the front bedroom. I even pulled off wallpaper that I put up with my cousins husband, now an EX, 36 years ago. It was a vinyl paper that I think I bought at Caldor, long out of business. But that paper was beautiful and thankfully came off easily. I think we’ll need to cover that wall with Bin to seal it. Plaster wall look a mess. More work.
I had PT this morning, then ran some errands. I set up an eye exam for new contact lenses, Friday noon. Once home I had to drain water from the pool. We had days of rain that filled it up past the skimmer. A busy dirty day. I’m tired and want a hot shower

Congratulations, cardplayer!!!
Got home from bookclub. A friend of mine and I went over to the local grocery store and got a cold Asian supper. On the way back, we saw a couple with two dogs. Tippy totally lost it, I could not settle him down. I finally let him (17 pounds of dog) pull me on the bike for half a block. He settled down after that and I left him in my apartment while we ate supper.
I have been idly playing games on my phone while watching TV.

Welcome baby Piper! Congratulations cardplayer!
Mary, did you say your knee slipped out which made you fall? I have been dealing with right knee issues for awhile. I have osteoarthritis in it and it kept slipping out of place, subluxation, and I was afraid I might fall. My orthopedic doctor gave me two choices, PT or knee brace. I opted for PT. I had it twice a week for about 9 weeks and it really helped a lot. No more slipping! For a while I tried to keep up with the exercises at home, but gradually Istopped. Recently I have had it slip again to the point that I almost fell. It happens without warning. With my breast surgery coming up in October and work, I just can’t deal with that now. I’m interested if this is what you have too?

I fell off of an over-powered electric bike back around Thanksgiving. Dislocated knee, which the EMT's moved back into place. Some of the knobs and bumps on the tibial plateau which serve to guide movement broke off, and tendons and ligaments were stretched, and there was an actual barely seen break on the back part of it.
Yep, it slipped out and I fell as a result. I use hiking poles. My ortho doctor said stationary bike is the best form of exercise at this point. I sold my overpowered bike and bought a Schwinn trike and a "Hilltopper" brand front wheel motor with battery. I use that for getting around and it gives me plenty of exercise generally without bothering the knee. Just as the name of the motor says, I am supposed to only use power to get to the top of hills.

Mary - what is your book club reading? I'm about 2/3's through "The Heroine with 1001 Faces" for mine. We read very eclectically - this year half fiction and half non-fiction. But unlike my last group, this group has a serous discussion!
The weather is scary. Jackson, MI (among other places) is flooding and we are in a multi-year drought with thousands of new builds already on the books!

Cardplayer - welcome to Piper Jane and congrats to proud grandma. Love the name. My first weighed 5#110z - perfect size.
Mary - hope your knee feels better. Petite, same with your back.
Record high again today 99F - yesterday was either 98 or 99 and same for tomorrow then a cool down for a couple days.
I didn't think I was that tired when I got home from work. DH and I went for a walk when I got home. After our walk we were watching the news and I fell asleep. I haven't done that in some time. He keeps telling me how much more tired I am this year, which is true. Last night I got into bed at 11pm and 45 minutes later I was still awake so got up and went to the living room - of course eating junk. Eventually fell asleep and woke up at 3:30am, crawled into bed until it was time to get up at 4:45am.
Wishing everyone a good Thursday.

Cardplayer, congratulations. We are under flood alert this morning. I can hear thunder and the radar shows a storm rolling in from the Gulf. I have a hair appointment at 11:00. I hope the rain will be over then.

Wow, go away for 2 weeks and it takes several hours to catch up on all the happenings in the interim. Yes, I do go back and read so I would not feel confused by some of the postings. Cardplayer, congratulations on your new GD. May you enjoy time with her and your DD. petite1, hope your back feels better soon. Mary, hope your fall doesn't have any lingering effects.
We went to Seattle to spend a few days sightseeing on our own and then joined a small group tour of WA, OR and NOCAL. We lucked out and had good weather, good traveling companions and a tour director extraordinaire. The trip ended in SF and we had 3 days there on our own that we used to take other day tours including a sailboat cruise of SF bay, etc. I spoke to a man while on the trolley about his hat with the Jeremiah O'Brien insignia on it to learn he was a volunteer on this Liberty ship berthed there. He invited us to be his guests if we would like to tour the ship and we took him up on it. We spent over 2 1/2 hours getting the insiders tour and it was wonderful. The engine room of this ship was used as the scene of the engine room in the movie Titanic. Had a Ghiardelli Square hot fudge sundae afterwards for a wonderful day. All in all it was so nice to have a break after nearly 3 years of house restoration (no, they are still not done but it is small repairs and had big to do with project manager today). We had postponed so much work on the house due to limited parking for contractors and are busy playing catch-up now. The kitchen cabinets which are natural cherry and over 20 years old needed some refinishing. I was able to schedule it to start on Wednesday and it is progressing nicely. It is projected to be finished by tomorrow but won't be fully dry until Saturday. Kitchen off limits so we do not harm finish while it is drying so I don't have to cook again tonight. Still feel like I am on vacation.
Having lost our almost 14 year old Dalmatian the day before we left made us keenly aware of every dog we saw on our trip and so many of them approached us. Fortunately, their owners were eager to talk about their pets and willing to let us pet them. Got many dog kisses as well. DH had an Australian shepherd sit next to him on a Rogue River boat trip and the dog was persistent in letting only DH touch him. We realized that going home to our house sans dog was going to be difficult. I reached out to the Dal rescue that we got our Lita from since she had several black and white Dals available. We have only ever had liver and white Dals in our 46 years of owning Dals but were willing to change since they are so hard to come by unless you purchase them from a breeder. We had also applied online for a liver and white male (we prefer females) in NYC but have not heard back from the rescue about whether our application was accepted. They wanted us to drive to an adoption site in NYC on Saturday without knowing our status which left us bummed since it is a haul from here. Concern was that he would not be available and they would want us to take another rescue pup. We are conditioned to the quirkiness of Dals and while loving other dogs, would prefer to have a Dal again.
Then our Dal rescue alerted us they had a 2 year old female that was being turned over to them because the owners were moving and didn't want to take her. Seems they took her to a dog park as a pup where she was promptly attacked and has been dog shy ever since. They attempted to take her back to the dog park and she reacted negatively. They also have pugs and a chihuahua that she reacts to and needs to be kept separate. So she is crated quite a bit especially while they work. We can deal with being dog shy and will seek professional help for her. She is liver and white, small like our former dog and we can pick her up on Saturday. We have to drive over 90 minutes to a "meet place" and have them sign release forms. They have never had her spayed nor is she UTD on shots. So the rescue is waiving the adoption fee as well as the fee that they will pay the owners to release her. The rescue was concerned that if they did not purchase her, she would be sold to Amish breeders for breeding. Unfortunately, the Amish run puppy mills in PA and do not have good reputations for reputable pups nor good care of their breeding stock. We will pay for the spaying and shots but they are included in our vets pet care plan. She lives with cats and kids so we should be okay there. Our cats have been raised with the dog so there will be a period of adjustment for all. She is house trained and likes to hike so we know she does well on a leash. Not sure of obedience training but we can handle that as well if needed.
Getting caught up on laundry and ironing (yes, I like to iron), finished unpacking and still putting some items away. Hope by weekend to be able to have set everything to rights and to tackle welcoming the new dog.
After 2 days of much needed rain, the sun is out and it is warm but not hot. Nice to be home and to sleep in our own beds. Have a good day. Good luck to anyone who has a procedure scheduled.

betrayal, so nice to read about your vacation! Also, that is one very lucky fur baby coming into you home! I hope to adopt a small dog, but now it is on hold again, due to my upcoming surgery.

Until recently, many of us were taught to see God as unapproachable and far away. Now we are realizing that the Infinite Intelligence that governs all of creation is also in us. The presence we have been searching for outside ourselves is actually a part of our own consciousness. It is time for each of us to retrieve that lost divinity, to look within and touch that source that has been there all along. The love you experience will tell you that you have come home. -Douglas Bloch

Mazel tov, cardplayer! Piper (as are all new babies) will be a blessing to your family. Hope you get to cuddle her soon and spoil her as much as grandmas are supposed to.
Mary, sorry about your fall & your knee. Has PT taught you how to tape it to prevent patellar drift? (You use paper tape as a foundation and kinesio-tape to do the actual "traction").
Betrayal, sorry for the loss of your elderly Dal, but congrats on the imminent arrival of your next one. Envying your PNW trip--we lived in Seattle for the first 7 years of our marriage, and miss it so, along with the side trips we were able to take: numerous day hikes on Mt. Rainier, cross-country skiing at Crystal Mt. on some weekday mornings and then heading to afternoon-session law school classes, Sunday drives to Vancouver for dim sum brunch, ferries to the San Juans & Victoria, camping trips down the coast to the Napa Valley, SF, Monterey, etc. (I miss how cheap it all used to be relative to Chicago--now people are moving here because it's cheaper than Seattle).
It's been too dry here but cooler than average (though it's heating up briefly till the heavens open up Sat. night through Mon. or perhaps Tues.). Picking the remaining ripening tomatoes and sprinkling the green ones with cayenne seems to finally be working against the squirrels.
Basically been a self-care-and-run-errands kind of week. Tues. I had my every-6-wk facial. Yesterday I finally got my car washed (been >1 month) and wiper blades changed, and topped up my tank (9 gal. worth) at Costco: $4.07/gal. ! (Found a receipt from May when I paid $4.98). Today, I rescheduled the kitties' vet appts., called the Sec'y of State's DMV section in Springfield to get help with the paperwork for correcting the title on the Tucson (the plates we transferred from the Fusion were in my name, the Fusion's title was in both our names, but the idiot--likely sexist--car salesman filled out the title in onl Bob's name). The clerk on the phone walked me through everything and told me that it would be no faster to go to a local DMV office than to mail it all to Springfield--in fact, were I to try it in person (assuming I could get an appt.). I'd need to have Bob sign a power of atty. for me to do the procedure on his behalf, because no way can he kill an entire afternoon there. Finally, I made copies of everything and then went to the post office to mail it certified return receipt requested, with tracking. There have been so many thefts from blue mailboxes (and check-washing) that I never use them any more. (I hardly ever write checks or pay bills by mail these days).

Everybody really knows what to do to have his or her life filled with joy. What is it?
Quit hating people; start loving them. Quit being mad at people; start liking them.
Quit doing wrong; quit being filled with fear. Quit thinking about yourself
and go out and do something for other people. Everybody knows what
you have to do to be happy. But the wisdom of the test lies in the final words:
"If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them."0
