Carole, Prime days start tomorrow, 6/23-6/26. Might save more $ tomorrow, or early sales may already be out there on Amazon. I’ve ordered so much off of Woot! I haven’t hit Amazon yet.
Woot is having a toy sale - purchase 7 items get 70% off. So you know I purchased 7 items to be shipped Texas for the grands. The savings were phenomenal.It’s raining as predicted. But before it got heavy I ran out to the pool and put in another bag of shock. Pool looks clear, and when I lifted the solar cover I could feel the heat come off the water.
I planted 3 lemon zest cannas, I think I already mentioned, and this rain will do them good. Our lawn seems to me to be more dirt and weeds than true grass. We’ve had seed down but I think we need a weed & feed product. But the rain might help it too.
I’ll need to pick a project to do today. Nothing on the calendar and sitting in due to rain can bore me beyond words.

Yesterday we celebrated Father's day and DD's birthday. We ordered Mexican food and DD had gotten a turtle cheesecake from her local Italian place. It was gooey good. DGS has been staying with them since Thursday and they are finding out how expensive a teenager can be.
He keep saying he wants a job, but I can't entice him to help me with weeding and so I may look for someone local to help. He wants money to take to the shore when they leave on 7/5, so we'll see if he changes his mind. I am not just going to give him money. Seems DGD will not be able to go to the shore because of her foot and the need to wear her boot 24/7. She will be staying home with DS. I imagine they will show up here one day of that week. I love her dearly, but she cannot self-entertain and I can't find enough activities to keep her busy.
With the assistance of DGS, DSIL and DD we were able to get the juniper righted and secured with a tether. I did have to dig out the one side and discovered the root ball needed to have some slits made in it which I was able to do with a hand shovel. The soil was quite dry from being exposed, so after we filled the gap with new rich soil, I watered it well. There were some ferns I had to remove at the base, so today I relocated them to an area where I am trying to fill in with ferns. Part of that area has filled in, but this bed has been somewhat neglected for the past few years.
Today, I tackled weeding this neglected area, spraying the poison ivy to kill it, and then replanting the ferns I had. It took me nearly 2 hours to finish weeding this one section and the spot closest to the shed still needs additional weeding. I just ran out of steam. I did apply 2 bags of mulch to the area where I replanted the ferns and watered them. I watered the patio plants and then watered the juniper again.
I had one more task on my list for today and it was to cut the invasive vines that are choking the life out of some of the bushes and one tulip poplar sapling. I thought I had taken care of it when I worked on the fern bed, but I missed some other root bases. I had to literally make my way through a tangle of bushes to access the vine bottom shoots, but I got them all today. Now we'll just wait for the vines to die and then we'll pull them off the bushes and tree. I trimmed the wild rose as I walked past to cut off the shoots that hang over the slate walkway.
It is hot today with temps in the low 80's with a humidity to match. There is a light breeze, but I was sweat soaked when I finally quit for today. Now it is clouding up so not sure if the weather man is wrong again, and the storms that we were supposed to get overnight into tomorrow, decided to arrive early?
cindyny, I feel like you do when I am confined to the house. I do have some things to do, but no interest in the moment. I hope you can get the pool under control and I wish you were closer so I could just jump in to cool off. I love the rug by your pool.
carole, I was gifted Kindles over the years, and have one that is very old. I was never able to enjoy reading from a screen though. I prefer the feel of a book, but a Kindle makes so much sense when you are traveling and don't want to haul a bunch of books. I hope you enjoy your new one.

Good morning. I will be sworn in as the local LIFT group president, today. LIFT is a social group for widows, widowers, and those that have lost a child. It is national, but runs differently in each area. The one near my NC cabin only meets monthly.
My PCP visit went well. I am so glad my thyroid is working in the normal range, again.

Had ophthalmologist appointment today and everything is good. Return in 6 months to see the retinal specialist. Reminded them they must submit report to PCP so I don't get a delinquent notice on my portal. Hate when they dilate my eyes because I am out of commission afterwards. Today I checked my eyes before I left and not only were my pupils enlarged the sclera was yellow from the dye they use. I did manage to get some of it out because it looked wo weird, but still had residual. I went to get parking ticket changed to senior rate and asked it I could pay there since the new automatic booths they put in are so high that I usually have to stop my car, climb out to activate the ticket scanner and then pay via credit card. She offered to assist me when I got to the gate and fortunately it wasn't busy when I got there. She came over, scanned my ticket, and tapped my credit card. How nice of her to do this. I was really thankful. Other drivers get annoyed when I have to stop my car and climb out. I'm short, do not drive a SUV for that reason and I really feel theses automated booths are set-up for SUV's and tall people.
Rained for most of day after torrential downpour last night with flood wash warning after earlier tornado warning. Tornado warning was just that, but areas were flooded and trees were down in some areas.
It is clear now, but humid so I stayed in today and just caught up with some reading. Dinner was a broccoli cheddar quiche and a salad. Quick and easy.
Cardiologist wanted 2 weeks worth of blood pressure readings since she cut the dosage of my potassium and hydrochlorothiazide in half. It was low in her office and she was concerned. I don't take these for my blood pressure, but because I have compromised circulation in my left leg which is why I wear compression stockings. My legs have been fine so far.
Hope to get outside to weed tomorrow. It will be easier to pull weeds after a storm while the ground is still soft, and I may go to the flower bed directly at the road since this seems to be the worse one. Every year I pull these same weeds and they keep coming back. Not sure I always get the root which is another reason to try tomorrow to eradicate them and then mulch. It's a fairly large area so it will take several hours to do. I'll do what I can and then go back over it if I have to. I can also assess the other areas to see which need to have more mulch applied or to be mulched because they weren't done last year. I have 6 areas near the road which I have planted over the years.
DS and DGS are going to come replace the chicken wire fence with more substantial fencing as a Father's Day gift. We have the poles in place and have the fencing, so it should go fast. It's split in 2 with a slate walkway between the beds and is near the gazebo we have. I introduced ferns and Solomon's Seal around the gazebo so I get away with minimal mulch in the gazebo bed now. DB put a new cedar shake roof on the gazebo last year and it looks lovely.

Petite, I know better when filling the pool, but it happens to me once every few years! Today, from an all day rain yesterday, I had to drain out 2”. The water was near to coming out the hole in the skimmer.
I took a walk this morning at our local park, a little over 2 miles. And when I checked my Fitbit it showed my pace was 98% vigorous walking. That’s because a black sky above me kept my pace fast, I didn’t want to get stuck in a downpour far from my car. It never rained until after 7 PM, and only briefly.
We voted in our primary; ran to to Aldi’s; pulled some weeds; I picked my grandniece up from her job, treated her to Chipotle; dusted the thick dust off all wooden furniture on the first floor; did a quick dinner of ham steak with Bob Evans mac & cheese, and called it a day.
Tomorrow weather should be warmer than today. I’m meeting a gf to walk at the park at 10. In the evening SO & I have tickets to the baseball game, which includes a picnic dinner. It should be a good evening to be out.
It’s 65 now, going down to 59. So I can’t complain - good sleeping weather.

Cindy - must admit that the first thought I had when I saw your pool was the one in D.C. Glad you got it cleaned up. Sounds like a chore.
Betrayal, if I ever come to PA, I'd sure love to see what sounds like a gorgeous home and garden! The Storyworth is mainly two generations. I'm getting a little bored with the trivia of the questions but have lots of pictures to add. I think it will be good to have them in one place. I scanned some that Debbie had when we were there. I also have found doing some of the questions very therapeutic. My goal is to have the books ready by mid-August for our 60th anniversary and Debbie's birthday. Since Debbie is adopted, she has less interest in the genealogy which I keep on line and hope my niece will continue when I'm gone.
Haley and Betrayal - travel as long as you can. I too loved our time in Africa but Australia is the farthest East we've been. Can't tell you have often we have hoped to get to Egypt but unrest has forced us to call it off.
Carole - did you have hail? A friend sent Facebook pictures of the damage on their coach. I don't know where in MN they or you are but I worried.
Saw primary today. Had lots of "now I'm 80 questions" and was pleased with the discussion. The primary that I've had for 20 years is now part of a teaching program and she is a resident. Had her once before and liked her then too. Going to do dexa scan and a vitamin analysis (at my request) during my next blood draw. I take some supplements but am not sure they are the right ones. Said I didn't need a tetanus shot which I have always gotten at my zero birthdays. I'll get flu and covid in the fall.
Meeting my golf buddies for the first time Sat. Really looking forward to it. Have decided that I'll play from 200 yards or less for the first outing. Carole may be the only person who understands that. I think she and I are the only golfers.
Petite, I never heard of LIFT. Thanks for mentioning it. I'm sure your group appreciates your willingness to take on the leadership position. Seems like it will mean a lot of going back and forth between homes. How far between them?
Over 110 for the next few days. Even the pool water gets hot.

Taco, fingers crossed, so far we have not had hail with thunderstorms. We had two bouts of rain yesterday, the first during the day and the second at night after we had gone to bed. I won't be surprised if the total is between 2 and 3 inches. Neighbor Mary has flowerbeds and welcomes having them watered. I have flowers planted in pots on the deck and prefer to water them instead of having them battered by rain.
Our location is a little north of Park Rapids and south of Bemidji. We're about an hour and a half from Fargo, ND.
One new pleasure this summer is my oriole feeder. The orioles are so pretty. Another greedy bird has been helping himself/herself to the grape jelly. It looks like a small woodpecker, but I learned that it's called a sap sucker. It's not as skittish as the orioles. I also put up a hummingbird feeder this year and enjoy the visits from a couple of varieties, one the red-throated. Hummingbirds are not bothered by the presence of humans on the deck.
Our stretch of cool temperatures will come to an end next week, and hot temperatures will return, much to neighbor Mary's delight. Nature can't please everybody.

Just came in from weeding the one bed I wanted to finish and part of another where I had transplanted some ferns. I wanted to mulch both areas today and 8 bags of mulch later, I am calling it quits. I have been out there for about 3 hours and the temperature was 68 when I started and now is 76. The humidity is higher, but bearable. I watered the areas I mulched, the patio flowers and the juniper.
I found 4 pumpkin plants growing in the lawn so moved them up to the bed I weeded and replanted them. They are from when I put pumpkins out for the deer. Let's see if I can grow pumpkins.
Carole, hope it stays cool for you. Glad the storm didn't include hail. Are you golfing at all?

Taco, I always post pictures of my spring gardens when the daffodils are in bloom. Since you can't come to PA right now, I'm going to post photos of my summer garden. It changes annually and I have posted some in the past. Glad you are able to resume golfing. Surgery was worth it.
I plan on doing 2 loads of laundry this afternoon, too.
Cardiologist wants me to continue at lower doses of Potassium and hydrochlorothiazide. Blood pressure remains less than 125/80 which is new for me now. Hasn't been this low in probably 20 years.

Forgot to say that the return to Amazon worked out well even if it took some time. Yesterday we received new Paperwhite Kindles and got them up and running. Our anniversary (July 12) gifts to ourselves. I'm reading a book on the old Kindle because I can use it to read anything already in its library. Amazon won't allow any new reading material to be added. Otherwise, I wouldn't have bought a new Kindle.

Exercise stress test was this morning. I think I was in and out in 15-20 minutes. They had no issues and sent me on my way. Then I received a call from my cardiologist. He said I had an equivocal ECG, not bad/not good, but inconclusive. He believes there is nothing wrong, all calcium scores have been zero. But he’s put in an order for a CT with contrast, he said they’ll contact me within 2-3 weeks to set it up. I was kind of disappointed it wasn’t an “all is clear” but grateful he’s following up - that’s why I go. Once started on the AI drug I wanted a cardiologist so I could have a baseline going forward. Add in my dad had a heart attack at 62, and I don’t want one if I can prevent one.
Taco the pool seems to be more and more work with each passing year. I’ve golfed, my clubs are still in the attic, so I caught your reference. I threw my back out about 14-15 years ago and was afraid to swing a club ever since. I should grab my grandniece and go hit a bucket, if I can’t finish she still can.
Betrayal, your garden and patio stones look amazing! I thought of you today as I cleaned out my back garden. We had discovered a cement circular pad years ago and planted a garden 3/4 the way around it, and put a cement/stone bench to close the outer circle. I had lined the inner circle with big rocks, and put a close to the ground bird bath in its center. But years of neglect and the rocks were buried under dirt and weed type grasses. I weeded, pretty much dug out everything I could; put down mulch and then sat to get to the rocks. I ended up with 2 planters full of extra dirt. It was a LOT of work, disguised as gardening!Carole, I like the assisted watering of a good rain, but no hail. I had to hurry with my garden work today because they said rain by 5 pm; it’s now saying 7 pm. Enjoy your birdwatching!
My birthday is tomorrow. We’ve been doing pizza and cake in my back yard for years but I’m tired of it. So we’re going out to dinner. But this one isn’t talking to that one, and this one hates that one, and on & on. I invited few, I feel bad but don’t want to walk on eggshells. Who knows if they’d come anyway with the other parties coming. I expect questions on what I’m doing for my day and I think I’m just saying I’m going out and not elaborating. Family. Got to love them, can’t kill them, but can choose if I spend time cutting the tension. There is that saying - not my monkeys, not my circus. But they are kind of my monkeys. I could cave in and just invite them. Ugh.6 -

Yesterday was nice weather for golf. We draw numbers for forming groups. I drew Ginnie, the best golfer in the group, and Mary, who's about on my level. We played a scramble, which helps the players who aren't good golfers. It's a team effort with everyone hitting the next shot from the best shot of the group. I didn't help a lot but I did chip in to give our team a birdie on one par three. If no one else made a chip in, I will get the quarters in the chip in pot. This all probably seems like Greek to a non-golfer. LOL.

Thanks for the comments on my garden. I love to visit gardens on our travels and admire the design concepts for either their formality or their deliberate randomness. They fact that they have many hands to maintain them is not lost on me and my plans for my garden beds has evolved over the years since I only have my hands.
I've learned from trial and error (and the loss of many plants/bushes) what works best in our yard. The beds in the back yard abut the woods so it has evolved into what best reflects that look. The golden cypresses once graced the edge of our former patio as do the Japanese holly which formed a hedge at the other end. It was a very small patio bound by the cypresses as bushes (and not the trees they are now) on the one end for about 20 feet to the Japanese holly on the other. It was a concrete slab and we decided to replace it after we dismantled the above ground pool we had put in for our DD and DS. We had to decide what we were going to do with the now bare under-landscaped area bordered by large trees.
We decided to expand the patio and to have it made of flagstone rather than another concrete slab or a deck. It meant the installation of a base where the pool used to be and because the land sloped towards the bottom of our hill. Because it was so high off the slope, we installed 3 steps and bordered it with flower beds (made from stacked flagstones) to prevent falls. This also gave us access to the side yard. As the trees died off (3 fell on the house in 2 separate events), we replaced that area with the fern bed and then added the junipers after the second event (they provide a privacy break from our neighbors) involving 2 large cherry trees in 2019.
I took advantage of sales for plants and bushes and my 50 cent azaleas from Frank's nursery were and end of the season purchase many moons ago. They were a surprise because they were no longer labeled with their color at that point and over 30 years later they thrive now that they don't get annual trims by the deer. Of the original 5, 4 have survived. I would buy daffodil bulbs from Breck's and plant them to naturalize around the yard and now have 4 major beds of them. Surprising how quickly they will naturalize and then allow me to establish a new bed from a crowded one. I've allowed bleeding hearts to run rampant and transplanted them to distant beds where I needed them to fill in. I also have another yellow flowering plant that self seeds, I've lost track of the name, but it too has taken over. It is small, delicate looking and likes to establish itself in the niches in the flagstone walls. I've shared it with others giving them fair warning of how invasive it is.
I have a small plaque at the entrance to my secret garden that reads "Into the garden I go to lose my mind, and find my soul". I think this aptly describes how I feel when I am gardening, I have no worries and focus only on the outcome of my efforts. It's been my salvation at times especially when I was unable to garden due to medical issues or recovery. Some run or go to the gym to get their dopamine fix, I weed or dig holes and fill them with plants for mine.
It's rainy today and 72 degrees already. I'll avoid the humidity today because it will be oppressive. We need a good heavy rain to make the weed removal easier, but I did a good bit of weeding in the bed by the road yesterday. As we were working on it, a woman stopped her car and made a nice comment about our work which was very welcome. I still have about half more to do, but it is nice to see that the periwinkle ground cover is growing well as is the ajuga ground cover. I sprayed the poison ivy vines which love to hide in the ferns I have there. DH is very sensitive to it so I try to kill it off. This bed is daffodils in the spring, and ferns, hydrangeas and peonies in the summer.
I decided, much to DH's surprise, that we needed to reconfigure the edge of the stacked flagstone wall surrounding the bed. The edge near the driveway always gets hit by delivery vans and there were the largest of the flagstones near it. I decided this was part of the problem and the solution was to place them in the front abutting the road and to use smaller ones abutting the driveway. This wall has been reconfigured multiple times over the years, and this wasn't working. So we had to move very heavy pieces by flip-flopping them onto the road and then pushing them into place. We had to dig out a few large pieces that had been buried by the delivery vans as well. The wall looks better now and hopefully its lower profile won't be an issue for delivery vans.

My work yesterday. My shoulder feels it today! We had a lot of rain from 7 PM on. I went to bed at 1 AM and it was still raining. I was glad I picked up the dirt pile from the middle, it would have been a mud pile.
This morning I was able to get into the portal to see my results from the swallow test. Nothing jumped at me as being horrific. Follow up is Monday.
I also had a call from the cardiologist office to schedule the CT with contrast, and bloodwork. The next available date is 8/12 at 2:30. They offered 8/10 but I see the oncologist PA for my yearly check on that date.
I think I have more doctor appointments than I’ve had in years combined. A gf was trying to set up a lunch date for 3 of us, between her & I being unavailable it leaves 7 week days for the 3rd gf to pick from.
The weather today goes from dark overcast to sun. I’m lounging in my jammies and robe. Robot vacuum just stopped so I suppose I’ll get dressed for the day.4 -
I'm sewing. I have to sit down and get some breath and relax my back every once in a while. You guys have been busy!
Me, too, Cindy. I am doctoring like crazy. Hopefully it will ease off by late August. We have instructions to report medical stuff to management. I sent a letter yesterday evening to the manger. She responded quickly, even though she was at home.
I have been working with my mint patch. We aren't allowed to plant anything new. Last year the mint smelled like sweat. Really! It was gross. I pulled it. Some survivors not covered with wood chips smelled like mint. I realized that I had made a mistake. Planted some new to take the place of the old. Someone snitched. This year my housekeeper and I cleaned all the chips out and planted clover (it grows everywhere) to take over the empty places. It will be groundcover that the maintenance guy would not have to whip. I told the maintenance guy, and he said to tell the manager (how picky). That is about the limit to it. Except for my green beans, summer squash, turnips and beets, and brussels sprouts. And nasturtiums, all in pots.
Doing more cooking, also resting at times. I now have a mature culture of sourbread starter. Made some yesterday. Excellent 100% WW in the breadmaker with a long rising and into the oven.
Betrayal, those mystery pumpkins seeds may really surprise us by fall. Intolight, I have been frustrated with my lack of energy and motivation lately, too. But accepting that I need to sit and rest occasionally if I want to do much at all. Prayers.
I had a fast-developing heartburn attack yesterday. Tippy tapped my leg with his nose and I got a glass of water and sat down on the sofa. Night before last I was having trouble sleeping, and he came up closer to me so I could pet him while drifting off to sleep.

We went out to dinner and had a delicious meal. No tension whatsoever. I did receive a gift - from a gf in Fl, who sent it to my niece, to give to me. It blew me away.
That’s my picture when I was a brunette, and I think it’s filtered very nicely if I do say so myself. HA! I thought it was a blank journal but it’s actually a book written by ai. It’s a story enhanced by a bunch of questions they ask and my gf, niece and grand niece answered. So thoughtful and totally unexpected. I’ve started reading it but want to finish up a book I’m reading before jumping in further. The title - I’m always responding to people in our group that say, I don’t know what that is, or that means; I say Google it. They’ll send me a name of a drug and say I don’t know what it is. Google it! They want me to Google it and reply to them what it is. LOL I digress. Great gift!
Today was spent reorganizing items, and waiting for the cable company to show up. A gf called and had me on the phone for almost 1.5 hours! Had to hang up so I could move stuff to allow access by cable guy. Well just as it was coming upon the time scheduled, 1-2 pm, I received a text telling me it’s been rescheduled for 6/30, between 8-9 AM arrival time. I had to call them and say that was a hard NO. Customer service moved it to 2-3. Then I saw I have a lunch on the calendar for the same day. I checked the text message for the link to move it, and put it back to today 3-4 pm. I hate waiting, and them moving it totally wasted my day. They better show up! It something about wires having interference on the lines.
It’s 82 and beautiful out, I should be in a bathing suit at the pool! I looked at the upcoming week and we’re going to be under a heat dome, 95-96. So I think I’ll have plenty of time for the pool looking forward. The cable company just rubs me the wrong way.Hope you all get your enjoy the day!

justforher, Illinoislady stopped posting last year and her obituary was found online a few days later. Other than the date of her death, no one knows more than that. She was a kind and lovely person who welcomed all with open arms. So we try to carry on her tradition of welcoming newcomers to the club no one wants to join. She is sorely missed by all who knew her on this forum.
cindyny, what a wonderful gift! It took a lot of thought for your gf, niece and grandniece to answer those questions and it should be interesting reading. I hope you'll share some favorite parts with us. Such an original idea, too.
It was on and off showers today, so I worked inside on things things that get neglected when I am in garden mood. I did vacuum the first floor and rugs, mop the kitchen using a microfiber cloth because I discovered I am out of the pads for the Swiffer Wetjet and ingenuity is the mother of invention, right? So a thick microfiber cloth and two rubber bands solved that issue. I actually think it worked better than the disposable pads, too. I had ironing to do as well and that is now done.
DH is a at a ham radio field day so it has been very quiet around here and I sometimes enjoy when I have the house to myself. I did enjoy today and tomorrow he will be back there for about half the day.
Tomorrow I have an appointment to finally get my ears pierced again after my plastic repair of my torn earlobes. It will be so nice to be able to wear earrings again. It's pricier than I expected, but it does include the earrings and a return visit for when I want to change out those earrings. It's been a long time since the original piercing, too.
I found a bird nest on the back door outside light a while ago and it had 2 blue eggs in it. I never saw a bird sitting on it nor heard chirps from baby birds. I did check it today with a mirror and it was empty. I took it down and it such a work of art as regards the construction and how smooth the interior is. I did take a photo. I'd love to know what happened to the eggs and hope that a blue jay didn't get them nor the fledglings if they did hatch. They are a beautiful, but cruel bird and I think it was a robin that probably picked this odd place for a nest. The door gets quite a bit of traffic so it's not conducive to a quiet place to have a nest. Not like the front porch which is protected from the elements and a spot favored by our house wren. DH gets annoyed when he can't sit out there because she chitters away at him and I chase him to the patio. She usually has 2 new families per summer.
Dinner tonight was some leftover homemade lasagna I had stored in the freezer. Whatever leftovers I have from the first meal get cut into individual servings and I use my meal sealer to save them. Easy peasy, just thaw and reheat.
I've been binge watching on Britbox since there is really nothing on TV right now that I am willing to endure, including the news. I like the British shows and have found quite a few that I've really enjoyed. There's on with Emilia Fox called Silent Witness that I really enjoy.
