Welcome home Di, wow what a trip and a beautiful pic. U r something.. Knowing me I would never have gone with all of the problems u''r having and venturing all over the place. That's wonderful u didn't let these things stop u. Like Sandra said it must be terrifying about your eyes. And glad u found some good Drs. to help u.
Lost isn't it nice just to have a place to unload and talk about anything u want with no judgment at any time. And we all understand pretty much how we feel. Good therapy I think.
JACKIE it's getting colder by the minute here, as I said before going back to my flannels for a while.

Oh Anne! When I read your post, it just reminded me of my family, and how I miss my oldest Daughter and their 2 sons!
We were so much a part of their lives when they lived here in town... We were there when both GS's were born, and lived close to us for the next 12 years... I got to baby-sit them from new-born's, because I only worked part-time.
They would get dropped off, and my whole life was spent having fun, and playing with the first one, THEN the second! I took them EVERYwhere! To ride the Loop Railroad above Georgetown, exploring a mine in Idaho Springs, picnics in the park, Casa Bonita, the rail-road museum in Golden, and I took them on tours when I worked at Coors! Even explored the "germination beds" in the malt-house, which was off-limits... AND "secret" rooms!
One time, after they moved to the Springs, they thought they would get transferred to Ohio...!!!! I thought I would DIE! I cried, and cried, and couldn't STAND for "my boys" to be taken away....
Finally they thought about it, and said 'Family was more important than a job transfer".... So we all lived happily ever after when they moved closer to us in Littleton...
The boys were our life! Hockey games, then Golf! I took the little one to his first tournament...! Stopped at McDonald's on the way, because he was so nervous I thought he would throw up! I talked him down, telling him how nervous I used to get before my dance recitals.... HE WON his first tournament!
I took each one to San Francisco, at different times to meet my Dad ....! Fishermans Wharf and that clam-chowder! Alcatraz, and the Presidio down by Golden Gate Bridge!
Oh, so many memories....
But then when the oldest turned 16 they moved to Orlando.... Yes, we all cried... I tried NOT to, but couldn't help it... So much a part of our lives had moved away....
We still talk to them about every week.... They are 26 and 28... and still "my boys." I should be thankful and grateful for all the memories I have. But I still wish they were here with us.... When we go visit them, it is great, but you always have to say good-by....
LostBoob.... Sorry for all the pain and stuff going on with you... You have had a ROUGH time, and your DH is trying so hard to help you! It WILL get better... maybe not soon enough, but just remember what Jackie says.... Give yourself 10 minutes.... then when you get through that, take another 10.... Just don't expect too much...
If your Daughter came, with the kids, you would REALLY be busy! Glad you talk though.... We DO get it...
Wilsie! You sound like ME...Ha! My bad hip is better, but walking with a cane.... I hope you are too! If you limp, it will hurt your back, so only do what doesn't hurt.... and when it hurts, take a break..... then go fix yourself a chocolate coke.... that ALWAYS helps...Ha!
Morning Jackie, Blondie and Cammi! And Di! How fun reading about your trip! And your cruising around Mexico! Did you get sick? Man, I got so sea-sick, just on a little boat going to a little island, I thought I would just throw up.... and die! So hard to enjoy yourself when THAT happens! Glad you made it home safely though! Sorry about all your problems with your back... AND your eyes!
And Lostboob again! We make you feel balanced? That's funny, cause Cammi and I didn't think we were...! Ha, ha! We have to tease each other, or else what else would we DO?

If
you have never loved yourself, never really loved yourself, gently and
unconditionally, now is the time to do that.
Love yourself, forgive yourself, and at the same time, know that there is
nothing to forgive.
Love other people, and let them love you.
You’ll never be bored.
Unconditional love can do some amazing things, and it’s a real safety
net.
And we can do amazing things when we know that we are safe.
Miracles happen every day. Max Navarre0 -
How fantastic to come here this morning and read. Of course, everything anyone said is now on the page behind this one, but I'll muddle along somehow and try and remember what I read. Maybe someday I'll get smart and use the entry box that is on each page ( so I can continue to scroll back up to re-read ) as the note above says: YOUR reply WILL appear BELOW the LAST post:
I don't really have to get off the page that I need to recall.....but do I remember that nooooo. Too easy.
This place is where we get to let it all hang out and be totally ourselves without any criticism for it.
Most of the time I guess I'm thinking.....no matter how bad I think I have it, there are so many people that are dealing with something worse.....their heads held high with a determined spirit so as to come out as good as possible. I don't know them generally, or see them except now an then, but I know they are there and they are my models.
Here is hoping I can always live up to them.....doing my best for myself and others and trying to lift us all up.
Carole....hope you are having a really good time just now. Been thinking about you.
See you all later.
Blessings,
Jackie,
ETA: I had to change the word NO up above to ANY. Lordy.....what was I thinking!!!!!

Good morning to everyone
Hearing about the cruises brought back good memories. We took our first cruise in the early 80's- we won it at our church fundraiser. It was wonderful, but not something we could afford to repeat often, although we managed to take one every few years, then once a year as the kids got older. When my husband retired from the telephone company, he decided to work part-time for Celebrity cruise lines. The main reason was that he could cruise for free, and I paid $10/day. It was a bit of a problem for a while because I was still working at a school and he couldn't understand why I couldn't take off for a cruise whenever he wanted. Then I decided to retire and there was nothing to stop us. The older kids were old enough to take care of the younger ones while we were gone- the youngest was in middle school, so we weren't leaving little ones. We went to Alaska(my favorite), the Panama Canal, (Bob's favorite) and every Carribean island several times. As the full time mother of 5 and especially while I was still working full-time, the destination, especially in the Caribbean, didn't matter to me- it was the ship itself that I craved- I didn't have to make decisions, except at meals, and there was nothing that had to been done on a time clock, except again dinner. I learned quickly that there were lounge chairs on lower decks, away from the loud music, and more importantly for me, out of the sun. I was content sitting there for most of the day, reading and watching the ocean.
Our youngest child was ADHD, and he had some obsessions, which thankfully, were not life- changing. One summer, for instance, he would only eat Whopper, Jr's. When I asked the psychiatrist what to do, he said, be glad they are on sale for $1.00 and let him eat whoppers. Anyway, I digress. We were planning a cruise shortly after the movie "the Titanic" came out. There was no way we could convince Tim that we were not in danger of hitting an iceberg since we were going to the Caribbean. Absolutely no way. Again, the Drs answer was that we should call him from each port. My husband almost had a heart attack when the 3 minute call was $25. Because I could see how agitated Bob was getting, I told my older son to tell Tim we had called every other day, but because of he ship's schedule, had to call while he was in school. That worked, but I was uncomfortable being out of touch with the kids for 7days at a time. I am not a big shopper, so we decided that instead of buying souvenirs, I would buy phone cards and call home from each port. The funniest call was from our 25th anniversary cruise, which happened to be the same week as our oldest son's 21st birthday. We called home from the first port. Our daughter answered and said everything was fine, but Rob had thrown himself a birthday party over the weekend. I asked to speak to Rob and his conversation was the same as Tracy's - everything was fine, but Tracy had thrown a party over the weekend. I was reassured that there was no damage done, and everyone was fine and that it was a joint effort. Rob, in fact, had to work late that night, so he sent his bes friend over to supervise Tracy's friends because they were underage.
Thanks for a chance to visit some good memories. Hope your week is stRting well.

ill what a wonderful post, Cammie yours also...I have never said either time "why me", whynot, it had to be somebody....Not mad or sad to upset, it just is what it is...What pisses me off more than anything is people that don't pay attention to what I said and ask me over and over again, when are you don't chemo....NEVER....AM ON IT FOREVER!! guess they don't get it or listen to me....or they say I thought you were done chemo....really....pay the f*** attention....anyway there is someone somewhere worse off then me and there are babies, kids, toddlers dealing with cancer and are worse off then me, so my complaints are small in comparison....
Anyway....have to take the kids for his med check (adderall) then will be back resting, can't breath wish they would figure out why I can't!!!
luv you guys
Sandy

Thanks for thinking about me, Jackie! I'm back home. We backed into our driveway about 1 pm yesterday and spent the rest of the afternoon watching the Master's golf tournament. It was terrific.
After it was over, DH watched the Nascar race that was on Sat. night. We'd set up these recordings before we left home on Wed.
The weather in Gulf Shores, AL, was beautiful. Our rv friends from FL were in the site next to us. We spent quite a bit of time visiting with them. And we ate almost all our meals out at restaurants together. DH and I had a couple of really nice bike rides on the paved trails that we accessed out of the rear of the state park where we stayed.
I don't remember whether I mentioned that Mary has been battling cancer. She underwent a 2nd major surgery about 6 weeks ago so she wasn't able to do much except a little walking. The cancer is similar to ovarian but it attacks the linings of the organs. During the last surgery (to remove a hernia) another tiny tumor was found and snipped out, so more chemo is in her future. But she feels good enough now for her and her dh to do some travelling in their motorhome. They'll take it easy and once a month she'll have to have her port flushed.
It's such fun to have so many new ladies to carry on conversation on our thread. It was on the local New Orleans news this morning that a new huge Carnival cruiseship will be sailing out of New Orleans. Its passenger capacity is over 3000 people.

Anneb,
It would be my dream to go on cruises whenever I wanted. How exciting that your husband's job afforded you the opportunity to do just that. Work does get in the way though, doesn't it? We've only taken 9 cruises so we certainly aren't experts, but really love it. If we could only figure out how to retire and live on a cruise ship, we would.
Since I had to retire early because of my stroke last year and then the breast cancer, the plan to save my salary for the next year and a half to replenish our Travel Fund went out the window. So now that I'm not working and can go anytime, we have to penny-pinch.
Our last cruise was two months ago, to Belize (for the 2nd time), Roatan (a new port to us), and Cozumel (6th time.) We had a wonderful time, as usual, no matter where we are or which cruise line we are on. Our next one is in 138 days (but who's counting?) and we're going to Alaska. The first thing I said to my husband after the doctor told us I had cancer was, "No more putting it off. We're going to Alaska!" The bucket list plan was to spend two weeks, one cruising, one exploring, but it's so darn expensive to travel inland and if we did it that way, we wouldn't have been able to travel anywhere for several years. The compromise was a nice Princess 7 day round trip Seattle on August 30th, our 10th but hopefully not our last cruise. My daughter Stephanie lived in Skagway for two years so we have lots of insider info and tips to get the most out of our time. We would love to go on a driving trip in New England next year and also would love to go back to Albuquerque. We were there two years ago for Balloon Fest and although we stayed a week, we didn't do half as much in New Mexico as I hoped we would.
In two days we fly to Chicago for a week to see our older daughter Allison. Wouldn't you know the weather is bad AGAIN there? I thought we would be safe from snow in mid-April.
In early May we are driving to Florida, sightseeing along the way and visiting old friends (and new?) We're booked at a bed & breakfast south of Breax Bridge, La in St. Martinsville on May 7th. Anyone live near? Would love to meet you in person. Then we're back on I-10 through Mobile and dropping down to Fair Hope, AL to visit a couple we haven't seen since 1972. After that we're going through Pennsacola, Fl and down along the coast through Gulf Breeze, Ft. Walton Beach, Destin, and Panama City. Anyone live near any of those places? We have reservations in Crystal River, FL and will be excited to don wetsuits for a swim & snorkel with manatees before heading a couple of hours south to St. Petersburg. Stephanie lives in my mother's house there and is getting another degree, Chemistry this time, so we'll be there for the graduation exercises. We plan to take day trips down to Sarasota, Sanibel Island, Ft. Myers and up to Dunedin for tea at a wonderful little shop, and over to Sebring to see my wedding maid of honor, whom I haven't seen in 44 years! Fortunately our 29 year old son will be taking care of the cats and bringing in the mail while we are gone.

Chevy, what a story! When I moved to take a job in TX, my baby grandson was only 2, I cried, cried, cried and so on for a long time. Still can. Now I have 4 but those earlier memories with him and the many visits I made just for him will always be in my heart. I don't love him "more" I simply love him differently. He's 15 now, a champion wrestler, outstanding football player and excels academically. Most importantly, he's a Christian and joy to be around. Of course, he's a typical teenager that is still growing a brain but his parents stay right on top of him! I love that part. This year, I missed all of his wrestling and those winning finals. When I could see him a few weeks later he told me it was okay, that me getting well was much more important than a wrestling match. Then he kissed my cheek with a hug tighter than ever. All that love you gave will always be there. Those are blessings that even distance can't ruin. Annebee, plans change so fast don't they? It does sound that you have made the plan that is best for you and brings you the happiness that you need. We all have those hindsights when we get older. Our children will too.Di2012, I can't even imagine what you went through and how you are coping. I so hope your conditions improve. Sunset is beautiful. And I love Mexican food...maybe I need to get a FitBit that would allow more Mexican food! RitaJean, read the Orphan Train and the Book Thief. I read a lot!
Saw PS today, extra visit. Boob is so swollen it looks like it will burst. Hurts too and is purple! No infection, just needs more time. Get to go again Monday. Taking it easier and giving myself more time. Just like all of you said.

Just wanted to let you know that some people do actually retire and live on cruise ships. My husband met some and they said it was cheaper than a nursing home. I believe they had to get off for a few hours each week so customs could clear the ship, but they kept their room and did not have to take their clothes or anything off with them. I have not been on a cruise since Bob passed, but my younger brother has suggested we go on a cruise thru New England in the fall. Being a Floridian, that is a dream cruise for me- we don't get fall in Fla. You sound like you have a very busy schedule ahead of you. Enjoy it. I plan to spend a good amount of time this summer in Fl, then will be back to Ga in the fall, with trips to S. Carolina, NY, and Virgina Beach before the holidays.

Sandra, we stopped in Fair Hope, AL, on our way home from Gulf Shores. We had breakfast at a little café on the main street. What a lovely little town.
We had torrential rain this afternoon. Along with thunder and lightning. Later on we may get more stormy weather as a front makes it way through, bringing cooler temperatures for a couple of days. Wed. morning it may get down to 32 degrees! In April!

I'm always at home too, Cam. I can't usually talk anyone into my feral cat feedings and it has been that way so long that I don't really notice. That is why I get so much enjoyment when someone goes somewhere and tells us all about it. I feel like I have gone too.
Carole....we had that rain last night. A little more thru the day but it was very minimal today. Tonight....snow is likely to be on the menu. Sigh !!!!! We have had snow in April before but I was really hoping we had seen the last of it for the year. The good news is....it wouldn't stay. The temps generally go right back up at this time of year. I'm spoiled now though and just don't want it.
Wow Anne....you are going to be busy with your travels too. Sounds delightful.
Going to work over Easter week-end....but it isn't difficult. I really don't mind. Age can be a wonderful thing and help you not mind what was horrendous to consider in your younger years.
Blessings
Jackie

Lost, purple is NOT a color that falls in the "good" column. Is it all over or just in places?

Anne and Sandra...a few years ago there was lady that had a suite for a 21 day cruise right next to our balcony cabin, but she lived aboard the OLD little Royal Princess for years....heard she even had he own furniture in her suite....I read she no longer live aboard any ship since the old Royal was sold and now Princess has a gigantic Royal Princess.
In March I booked another cruise AUGUST to Alaska...so excited,
although I have been to AK 8 or 9 times this will be only the second
time to go to Glacier Bay....it is so so beautiful and even with
thousands of people on deck one could hear a pin drop. This is the
first year that I recall glacier bay is sailing out of Seattle. (usually out of Vancouber, BC, Canada.
My eye sight has to get better.....I don't want to be blind!!!SANDRA....we are on the same cruise I do believe!.... I thought you were going in mid Aug.....I am so exited to meet you! we booked the inside sideways cabin (great for me hibernating and napping) on Carib forward....I have been in every type of room from inside, outside ocean view, balcony, mini suite and once a window suite on the Golden...but not the ONE sideways cabin!
We booked a quickie 4 day cruise May that will start out in San Francisco right next to Fisherman's Wharf and end up in Vancouver BC.....so inexpensive (interior) and last minute could not turn it down for someone to feed us well, make our beds and clean our cabin and even put a chocolate on our pillows when they turn down our beds in the evening. Our flight to SFO was $54 each.
We had an aft balcony cabin for our Mexican Cruise....hubby being hypnotized by the wake
Hugs,
Di

Just in places, Sandra. Several. One area where they put in fat he said they probably stuck it 100 times. I had know idea. If I had known, I could have expected that. Then I could have understood the other locations as the simple results of skin pulling. I suppose I would have been told a lot next Monday at my Post Op visit but today was drainage freedom day! Because of its appearance and my concern he saw me again today. Said he never saw bruising like this on an implant site and thought he put a little too much fat in, however, it would dissolve and reduce. It's at the top If this fat dissolves why doesn't the rest dissolve? I could make a fortune!
Get to go back next Monday for another check. He swears there is no problem and everything is great. Just needs time. Well, we shall see. My MO is probably having a fit wanting me to get started on the Arimidex. I was hoping to get some of this recon done first. Lost site of what is mot important. Hey, thanks for asking!! (darn cold in Dallas tonight)

Hi to all the newcomers and welcome to this site. These ladies are great
welcome home Carole
Sandra and Anne...enjoy all your travels this summer
We have never been on a cruise. My MIL use to lead tours and went on many cruises to Alaska. She loved it. Said it was beautiful. It is fun to read about all the travels everyone goes on. We have traveled to New Orleans and to florida many times to see family(inlaws). We visited son and family in Washington DC, Virginia and Philadelphia and we took a trip to the Dominican Republic ( that was great) and Europe( Netherlands, one of our DS went to 6 months of schooling and 6 months of an internship with a police department there Then we traveled to places in Germany, the Black Forest and into Switzerland, where we only got to have lunch and walk around there due to having to have MIL back for her flight home) We spent two weeks in Europe and I would love to go back there. It will be a long time before we can do a big vacation like that again since the price of everything has skyrocketed.
We started with rain this morning and it turned into snow this afternoon and it is still snowing. The streets are clear but the grass is covered with snow.
Trying to get the sons and their families together for Easter. This is not an easy job since two of our sons work crazy hours and sleep at crazy times.
Have a great week
Emma

Sandra, Be sure and let me know if you have time in Seattle for lunch or coffee. I would love to meet you. We did an Alaska cruise when I worked for Holland America Lines. Beautiful scenery.

Wren, I would love to meet you in Seattle. We are flying in around noon on Aug. 28th, staying downtown at Hotel FIVE and have a 3 hour city tour booked that afternoon at 4 pm. That's the only thing "set in stone" so I can meet you anytime. We can talk as it gets closer and decide where and when, ok? If Di is on the same cruise, maybe she can meet us too.
Di, could we be so lucky that we're booked on the same cruise? Ours is Princess, Aug. 30th, Seattle roundtrip on the Golden Princess. Is that the same as yours?

Jess, Congratulations on the new baby! I'm so impressed...great, GREAT grandchild...we don't even have grandchildren so it's hard for me to comprehend. You must have been a child bride! I love the name Alice. Love that the old fashioned names are coming back in vogue.

Anne, my friend used to belong to Elder Hostel.... I think the name was changed to Road Scholar.... Anyway, after her husband passed away, she was just LOST!
She somehow became connected to Elder Hostel, because of her love of travel.... So she started taking trips by herself.... actually with groups of people, arranged and everything taken care of by the "company"! She was afraid to try it "alone" but after awhile, she began to just LOVE it!
She has been all over the world.... Train trips through the Rocky mountains up in Canada, followed that trail.... (oh what WAS it??) but all arranged savely by that organization.
She has been on group tours to China, Japan, Viet Nam, Lao,Thailand and so many countries I can't even remember. Even went on a "working" volunteer tour to Hawaii, to help paint the fencing around Pearl Harbor! She is going with her "guy friend" that she met while both were volunteering at a museum here... He is 80, but she just turned 77!
So I am so happy for them! She also has a Van conversion, that she takes trips in.... alone, but with groups! She does this around the State, and usually are just week-end trips!
Me and DH have never traveled, except up to the mountains on lots of fishing trips.... BUT we go to Orlando once in awhile to visit our Daughter's family! Congratulations Jess! How fun! A new baby! Well I guess they are ALWAYS "new" but I'm happy for you!
